In May 2025, we purchased a refrigerator at Lowe's Ames location, which turned out to be broken. I was concerned because it was a floor model on discount. Back to Lowe's, presented our predicament; Ass. Store Manager, Daniel King was extremely accommodating. He immediately and graciously allowed us to return it. What a professional Mr. King is! We then purchased our beautiful Cafe' refrigerator which we are crazy about. It was meant to be!
I also would like to highlight Head Cashier Riley. She was fantastic! Through all of this rather difficult process, she was sympathetic, kind, knowledgeable and attentive. Sadly, for Lowe's and it's customers, she was planning to move out of state. I hope she's thriving.
Again, our experience was stupendous! Thank you!!!

Great experience buying a new freezer. They knew the difference between a "garage ready" freezer and one that was not. Good service, delivery and support.

Order delivery that was same day was never told that it would be delivered through a third party which happened to be doordash and the driver decided to throw mulch inside of my flower bed damaging multiple flowers and plants. Call to hopefully get a refund on the delivery so I can pay for new plants was told nothing could really be done from their side I have to contact a third party company that isn't even doordash.. wow the horror stories about delivery are true do not have them deliver.

Lois finally has a lot of their all their client tools all lined up inside instead of going online to get them, they have a lot of good headlights, screwdrivers, testers, testers, for almost anything you'd need going to lowe's buy it now good idea

I like Bonnie Plants & always get them at Lowe's but when I stopped by, they lacked any heirloom tomato plants. When I told the front end person about this, he told me Bonnie Plants sends them whatever & they have no say. I told him if they informed Bonnie Plants where to get off, they'd get what the customer wants, to which I heard, "well maybe." Sooo in a nut shell, I made it very clear that all you're doing is FORCING ME INTO THE ARMS OF YOUR COMPETITOR!!! No real response but I asked the front end person to please relay the message to the manager! And yes, the competitor had everything I wanted & more! I spent $90 that day at Lowe's and twice that at the competition......to which you know where I'm headed next time.

I still like Lowe's but when it comes to one-stop-shopping for like items, I would now rule out Lowe's for simply not wasting my time!

A Lowes employee delivered a LARGE order of mulch today that I purchased through Lowes Pro.
Charley not only communicated with me as he traveled to my home, he was right on time and made a complicated off load look simple. Way to go, Charley ! THANKS

Always welcoming and helpful staff. I like the vibe of this Lowe’s as it doesn’t feel bright and loud. It offers a pleasant shopping experience. I also am pleased that they are pet friendly!

Stopped in this afternoon to purchase a range. Keith Riddle helped us navigate the options. Very friendly, very knowledgeable, very professional! He got us set up for delivery the next day. Will definitely look for Keith next time we need help. He represents the company very well!

I went to Lowe's yesterday with a long list. First stop plumbing for a new toilet. Miss Karen put it on the float, suggested a larger wax ring and took it to the front while I went to lumber. Awesome!
In lumber I had Austin helping me pull the sizes I needed and he checked that they were straight and unscathed. Then- A wonderful young man, name started with M. Sorry I didn't commit it to memory. He cut my lumber so it would fit in my van. So cheerful and kind. Once checked out Andy helped load the lumber and again such a kind attitude.
All in all a great visit to a great store.

I just left the Ames Lowe's and am very frustrated! A couple days ago, my husband purchased a DISCONTINUED AO Smith water filter system at a DesMoines area Lowe's for less than $60. He asked me to pick up another when I went to Ames. SO, at this store the very same item was on sale, but at &126.+! When I asked I was told "Lowe's does not price match with other Lowe's."

Don't purchase major appliances from Lowe's. They are completely unhelpful with returns. You will spend hours on the phone trying to get someone to repair. Purchased a new range, and it failed after 1 month. No returns after 48 hours. Would give zero stars if possible.

Update - currently waiting 2 weeks for a local repair person to even look at our whirlpool range. And thanks for the personal touch and concern with the 800 number. called any got a bot.

I always stayed true to Lowe’s I enjoy getting all my outside trees, flowers from here. I always enjoy the Christmas time in your store. My husband likes so much of the store.
I cannot keep going into your store! You guys don’t have one register opened!!! There was 8 people waiting to check themselves out. There was an older gentleman trying to figure out how to check himself out. Another couple was confused. We needed help. But my husband was upset from standing for 10 minutes to check ourselves out. That we just left. Please help fix this. I love you guys. Always nice employees. I haven’t seen a cashier there for a year to check us out. As expensive of what your prices are. You could afford to hire one.

Very friendly and kind staff. Helped me on phone with online order. Asked me to come in to store.
My problem was with computer program/data. The computer showed an inventory of over 100 in store for this item. When processing the order, it would not complete because of an inventory problem and gave me a phone number to call. Someone checked inventory and said that there was plenty in stock and asked me to come to store. We were able to then process the order. The order was for a delivery of 45 bags weighing 40 pounds each ( I'm getting too old to lift /unload when I got home). The problem was that the computer stated that if it was ordered before 2 PM that it could be delivered the same day. There was no installation, just to drop off. Then they said that it would be three days before it would be delivered.
Computers are supposed to make life/jobs better. There were two wrong data inputs that were wrong, and I wasted a couple of hours on this. Please fix.

I'm giving 3 stars because of the great staff I interacted with. Two on the phone and 3 in the store, and they were all great.

Terribly ran store. Ordered an item a week ago. Got an email Friday saying delivery was to be today. Delivery time comes and goes. Try to call customer support
.an hour wait time. I Go into store, customer service lady said oh it isn't put together yet, maybe it will be by Friday. I asked why did I get a text saying that would be today and oli planned my work week around delivery. She had. Nothing. Then the store manager answered the phone and with a very sour attitude said "what do you want?". This is the third time Lowe's has had major issues. Third strike
I'm done with Lowe's. Just going kg down hill fast and managers don't care about customers or issues with their stores. Avoid.

DO NOT EVER BUY APPLIANCES FROM LOWES IN ANY CURCUMSTANCE. horrible experience. They will sub out installation to other companies and you will spend hours on the phone arguing with them. We had a leak caused by the subcontractor on the dishwasher. They took 8 days to come "inspect" the leak, then claimed it was our own fault and would not cover damages to floors and walls.
Update: I tried calling the store to complain and you can't even get through their phone system. They try everything to get you to transfer to the installer company or the manufacturer to talk to somebody else. I finally got through to the local store and they put me on hold for 20 minutes before I hung up. I'll never be in there again.

I was traveling south of Boone on Highway 17. A Lowe’s delivery truck passed me in a no passing zone going at least 70-75 mph. Too fast to get plate or id on it. This disregard for the health and safety of the public speaks volumes and reflects the kind of culture Lowes fosters with its employees. Should a lack of customer care and service — as reflected in all of the negative comments — come as a surprise when they cannot even show any decency on the road. What sort of management lets their staff drive down a major state highway in such a reckless manner in what is basically a large billboard — says all you need to know about the operation and management.

Next stop is the shareholder rep.

Stopped in two weeks ago to place a material order for a deck built in their online deck designer program. Gave the order list to the employee in the PRO department and he has yet to place the order. Keeps telling us that he is really busy. Horrible customer service.

I wanted to leave 0 stars but I cant. Well another bad experience here, I know why do we keep going back! Purchased $8000 worth of Boos butcher block counter tops and when they installed them one section had a severe warp in it and none of the edges matched up either. I'm talking more than 1/16th of an inch above the adjoining counter top. Call Lowes who says the warranty dept. says to place a heavy object on it for a couple days. Not happy with that answer...because its ridiculous to think that we're going to flatten out a 2 inch butcher block thats already installed with some weight. Call the manufacturer and we're told to place a heavy object on it for a week to see if it corrects the issue because thats the procedure for fixing a warp. My thoughts are why am I expected to correct this? I've already paid for them, someone more qualified than myself should be dealing with this.
Lowes Ames never fails to disappoint!! Stopped going here years ago because everything was a big confusing mess everything we would order something.
Flash forward 20 years my daughter want to buy carpet and they offered free measurements service. They come and measure and she orders the carpet and asked me to pick it up. I drive the 35 miles to the store to get it and I am there for an hour and a half while they are trying to locate her carpet at that point I asked them to just cut another piece which they did and I was on my way.
Get it home and realize it is not the right size and turns out when they measured they dis not do it right and she did not have enough carpet, or padding. So she then spends 2 hours on the phone trying to get it straightened out. I end up measuring and giving Lowes the dimensions and sheirsers the right size and I'm to pick up the next day. Upon arrival carpet isn't ready and I spend another hour waiting. Daughter decided to do upstairs this weekend with the same carpet and same story. I have been standing here for an hour waiting for my non prepared order!!!! Get it together Ames!!

Ordered a fridge on Saturday. Was told it was to be delivered on Sunday between 4-8pm. Get a call Sunday night at 8:45pm that they are delayed and won’t be able to get it delivered. Waited until Tuesday for delivery, was told 2-6pm. Again waited, got a call at 7:45pm saying the drivers were past their allotted time frame and it couldn’t not be delivered. Each time was told I would get a call to set up a delivery time and no call…

Tried to check out, no cashiers, but 5 people standing talking. Waited for another employee to walk down up front to join them and asked for a cashier. Was told I could get help in self checkout. I was Agian directed to self checkout after informing them I was writing a check. In self checkout was informed I couldn't write a check and needed to go through regular checkout. I dropped my item in frustration and left. Lowes didn't have a problem taking $30000 in checks while I remodeled my house, but won't wait on a customer now.

Very disappointed with the Lowe's store in Ames Iowa. Check out line in garden area 6 deep so went inside to pay for single item. No checkers on duty, told I have to use self checkers. Scanned item but couldn't pay cash on that one. Had to wait for help to cancel purchase and get in line in another self check aisle. Very very frustrating!!
One star is too many!
Also check your prices people. Same size container of Preen at Menards is $5.00 cheaper!

Customer is not number one at this store.
We were looking at wall tiles and were asked to exit the aisle so they could bring in a pallet. While i am aware that stocking is important, they could have waited until i was no longer in the aisle to close it off. My spouse works for a competitor but they didn't have what i wanted. I had just found what i wanted hanging on the wall and as i was reaching to grab the actual item to look at it closer was when i was asked to exit the aisle. i am not from Ames so it was a drive to get there. I will now either settle for something at the competitor or drive much farther to another Lowes for my item. I will not return to this store in the future. If this is how all Lowes operate, i will no longer shop at any of them.

Generally, we have had good experiences at this Lowes. However, our last experience was terrible. We purchased 2 shades to install. They were the last ones in that size available. When we got home, we discovered one of the shades had been opened and the mounting hardware was missing. We called the store right away in the evening and were told they likely had hardware that would work. When my wife took the shades to find the hardware the customer service was bad. They first directed her back to the aisle where the hardware was located but didn't go to help her find it. She asked about getting replacement hardware and they said they could not help and that we would have to pay for it in addition to what we had already paid for the shade with missing hardware. She ended up returning both shades. Totally unhelpful customer service. Not sure if we will shop here again.
