Sutherlands - Emporia, KS

We had the opportunity to be served by Eric and Mike in the flooring department! They provided excellent customer service and were attentive to our needs and budget. We will definitely be repeat customers and will refer others! It was such a joy to work with these two men!

I currently have my total home remodel priced at $25,000 - Sutherlands was going to get that over the next five years, but now they won't get another penny from me absent a desperate situation. I have spent thousands of dollars at Sutherlands over the years; however, I am absolutely done. The first offense was advertising that their own manager made the mistake of admitting was misleading. I thought I would be getting 99.9 sq ft of shingles by the way the ad was worded. I considered a lawsuit for false advertisement but decided to back off as I do not want to hurt a local business. But THEN to add insult to injury, after buying MORE shingles and giving them MORE of my money I fell a little short. With exposed roof I called and asked when the particular shingle would be restocked and they said that they could not get them. It makes no sense (whatsoever) to avoid keeping enough singles on stock to re-roof 5,000 sq ft at any given period if you're in this business. Avoid Sutherlands like the plague, as they are a plague. I was going to go through them for a full home-remodel, but now the only thing I have left for them is my middle finger. Home Depot and Lowes it is. ABSOLUTELY worth the travel. Already have the closest shingles I could find ordered from Home Depot - will nail over the expensive Sutherlands mistake way down the line after re-roofing the main house at a later date. Good job Sutherlands, that was a $25,000 mistake.

We went to Sutherland just to look around everything has change and plus no popcorn the employee said might have some during the summer .

Very nice group of people working there. Always asking to help and willing too. Always enjoy going there. Decent prices. Miss the Friday popcorn though.

I have been purchasing my lumber here for my Carpentry business for 19 years . At first it was not good at all , But then management changed and it has been especially great with Jason as the manager and Todd as assistant. Its a great place to do business. If you don't think so Go to a Manards just once and you will be very happy with Sutherlands

Bought some paint from Sutherlands in Emporia, Kansas. My husband and I wanted the paint a flat color (Forest Black). The older lady who mixed it messed it up the first color and so mixed a new color. Took it home and painted my kitchen cabinets. So our cabinets are blueish grey .. more blue then grey. Took paint back in with receipt and pictures to front customer service desk and talked to s older tall guy about the color being way off and just paid $43.99 for this gallon. The Sutherlands older man said, (verbatim) “ what do you want me to do about it”. My husband and I were taken back by the initial comment. Sutherlands guy made no attempts to make it right. Could have offered to add a color to remaining paint to get as close as our color but he didn’t offer that or anything. We WILL NEVER get paint here and whatever happened to the customer is always right. We would have not been so unsatisfied if the Sutherlands guy would have tried to make it right.

I will change my review when they require their employees and customers to wear masks.

Edit/Update: Just go anywhere else. Seriously, lumber guys will treat you like your stealing and spend the rest of their time talking to each other. I was going to buy other things I needed and now I'm just going to buy it off amazon.

Great customer service. I needed some advice for a plumbing issue that I've been trying to fix for days. They recommended me a fitting that would be a simple fix. Was able to fix it in 30 minutes of buying what they suggested. Thank you very much

Out of stock.. Every time I go there they are out of stock of something on my list. The workers act like they don't want to be there and wouldn't if not for the pay check . Why the attitude. Plus. When you want a sheet of plywood ripped down the middle. BOTH ends should be 24" wide. not 25" or 23" at one end and 24" at the other. ( El Dorado )
