Hammond Lumber Company - Belgrade, ME

Last week we made a purchase at the Belgrade store. Got our receipt & left. Several days later my husband received a call saying we did not pay for the product. We had the receipt & returned it. We got no explanation of being accused of stealing just a simple sorry, as if it wasn't a big deal. Not a way to run a business!!

Went to Hammond Lumber in Belgrade today to get a couple of items for a home renovation and had the pleasure of working with Paul Dodge! He was very nice to work with and very helpful. Will definitely be coming back for future house renovation needs! :-)

Though we're at the very beginning stages of whether we should build or not, I couldn't help but leave a review after speaking with Susan (x1215). She is a jewel and gave me more information about plans and, in general, what to expect when looking into building a home. Thank you, Susan!

Bobbie, who always helps me at the paint counter, is a wonderful person to deal with and a gem. She always remembers me and details about my projects. It’s impressive.
I have also had the pleasure of dealing with several other sales staff and found them to be extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I don’t know what I would do without the convenience of Hammond’s products, services and vast knowledge.

I called the Fairfield Hammond Store and spoke with the Kitchen designer who said she could assist with our master bath reno. We arrived, and she never looked away from her computer screen nor did she offer to assist, said, "go take a look and let me know what you like". We had and no clue where to begin and knew nothing about the newest materials, style etc. to pull it all together. However, another couple arrived and she jumped out of her chair and assisted them with their kitchen questions! We called Belgrade and made an appt and after we arrived, what do you know? The 'designer' wasn't even there and I pulled up the email. We asked about someone else? Everyone was 'busy' chatting up with colleages. There was one other customer and he was told the same thing.
On our way home, we stopped at Hancock lumber and got the assistance we needed!

My experiences with Hammond have been hit or miss. Get the right sales associate and you have a 5 star experience. Get the wrong one and it is 1-star or less. My most recent experience was a 1-star. Maybe it's because I am a DIYer and that I don't spend thousands and thousands of $$$ as a professional contractor might. I went in to seek some specialty plywood material and hardwood lumber for a project. Probably about $1000 worth of material. It was fairly clear from the start the associate was more interested in whatever he was doing previously. At every turn some roadblock was put in the way of the sale. He would have to send a truck to pickup the materials or would have to make some calls etc. Just didn't seem interested in making a sale. Other times with the right sales associate have been perfect...went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. So I give my experience a 3 based on both great and poor experiences. I don't want to go to the box stores but experiences like today make it a necessity.

Just saw the TV ad that was touting how they treat their employees and it made me laugh. My partner was not treated well, coworkers and bosses would talk behind their back, and the company was extremely careless when communicating about potential covid exposures despite knowing about them. My partners immediate supervisor was a giant man baby who had no tact when dealing with customers or his workers, flat out embarrassing. I can only hope that other locations aren't like this one.

Sales people were very helpful and knowledgeable. I was able to get literature on the product I was inquiring about.

I have been using Hammond lumber for most of the materials needed to build my own house in central Maine. My wife and I are also healthcare providers and I am very disappointed that Hammond lumber delivery crews never wear masks, not once throughout the entire pandemic. I hate the awkwardness of confronting people over this. Other than the mask issue, they have been great to work with for four years. Great service, nice people, very timely delivery. All of our pine was milled by Hammond and harvested locally, a plus for Maine jobs and environmental sustainability.

Update: Turns out I was being overly cautious and masks were not warranted outdoors anyway. Upgrading to 5 stars. Everyone at Hammond has been great.

We had work done by Wade and Chris from Spire CM and were thrilled. They are very professional and organized, have excellent work ethics, answer phone calls promptly, listen to customers needs, do an amazing job and clean up afterwards. I give them my highest recommendation.

Long time customer and 1 Day as a employee. They have the best team of workers that I have ever seen . They really care about customers and employees
