Hammond Lumber Company

My contractor built 2 houses using Hammond Lumber Brunswick and was always pleased and rarely got bad wood. I decided to used them for a large project with 3 flights of pressure treated stairs and 3 landings. The inside sales people were great but I continued to get bad boards delivered. I got a 2x12 that split on the first cut for stringers and they initially refused to take it back. (After talking to the manager, they took it back). I then got bottom of the barrel decking boards which were aged, moldy with uneven edges. I returned more wood and complained to the sales person. He reassured me that I wasn’t getting bad wood because I wasn’t a contractor. Today I got another delivery and returned 1/2 of it. ($143 of $293 purchased). Many boards were split and uneven, especially the decking boards. My recommendation is NOT to use Hammond lumber unless you are a contractor.

Tried to keep it local and give this place my business. Made an appointment for drafting the plans I needed with the intention of buying all my materials from them. Get a brief email from Dominic and make an appointment. Show up for my appointment and I’m informed that he isn’t there and is working from home. On top of that no one there had anything else to say. I’m done. Won’t spend a dime with this company.

I love Hammond Lumber. Working for a general contractor, needing the right materials when I need them makes having Hammond Lumber the best place to go. My job is much easier when I can call Pat Connors at the Brunswick office and I know what I need will get taken care of. He has been extremely helpful to make my job easier, and in turn, my customers happy. Come by if you need your projects to go smooth and efficiently.

The sales department went above and beyond to source the material that we needed. Communication and all A+ efforts. We highly recommend Hammond Lumber.

Deliveries went smooth, unlike Issues we’ve had at other large chains, a truck with building supplies showed up as promised. Friendly employees, everyone I have ever talked to here over the years, was friendly, and professional.
3 out of 5 is appropriate considering we Ordered Brown vinyl siding and got Red delivered, was told there would be a two month delay if we wanted the color we ordered.
Our decking color example doesn’t match the decking. We thought it would be all one color. The color we actually wanted is more like stains on the color we got.
After having so many issues, and so many delays. I only mentioned the deck color to the contractor, and figured whatever get it done, you’re finally out of here in a couple of days. Also the decking order was misplaced and believed to be already delivered at one point. It was found without any actual deck delays.
Again, No discounts given.
We were happy just to be getting it done, and now that we’ve spent over $50,000 on decking and siding, it’s all done, it would’ve been better to get what we actually wanted.
Construction projects are really too expensive, for anything else.

All I know, we spent $70,000 on a roof, siding, decking, gutters and trim. Who and where the errors are, I don’t know.
My Wife met with Patrick in person to pick the decking. I was told everything went well.

The house isn’t the color we chose, and the deck color isn’t exactly what we expected either, there was No discounts applied.
It’s done, we’re not completely dissatisfied, everything is better than it was. The entire exterior of our house is new, we can’t say it doesn’t look good.
We can say it cost too much.

I just need to share my experience with the Brunswick Hammond and specifically with Brandon Williams. We have just completed a rather complex addition project in Freeport and I exclusively worked with Brandon on materials flow. He has been fantastic to work with throughout the project. Timely, patient, willing to research for me, really going the extra mile. In addition the delivery folks have been fantastic as well. Couldn’t ask for better business partners in the construction biz.

Brandon could not have been less helpful. I asked for formaldehyde free ROXUL and he said there was no formaldehyde in ROXUL and he could not be more wrong. Gave me a flipped answer and I hung up waste of my time. Not very impressed! No misunderstanding Brandon was uninformed and could not care less to help me. Let not sugar coated.

The store in Brunswick is a little busy in the summer but thsys because everybody comes back from Florida or visits from somewhere and everything is busy in the summer, however still a good place to get lumber or whatever in the winter months it's only contractors in there mostly. Which is how it is normally when it isn't summer every other hammand store I'm sure is similar there being about 10-12 statewide. Haven't been to the other stores lately so hard to say. I think of it as a lumberyard because that's what I get there they have all the do dads and gidgets that every other hardware store does and as far as I know do kitchen design and sell house plans.

Bill Krause and his team have been so helpful in getting my latest project done. I could call ahead, have him pull up my needs and have lumber cut and ready by the time I got there. Always friendly at the registers and helpful people. My go to store!!

This is an amazing store. The staff is what gets the 5 stars. They were helpful, energetic, and just plan fun to be around. I am not a contractor, just a regular home owner with some silly questions. They helped me out with kindness and respect. The knowledge base of the staff gave me confidence that the material I bought was right for the job.

My wife and I are building a she shed. The workers here are friendly and knowledgeable. I know the price of wood is high right now but they still seemed reasonable here.

Hammond Lumber allows their salesmen to impersonate designers and destroy dreams. Due to their employee and his judgements, numerous shot cuts were taken on my first home, my dream come true. Only to be destroyed by an employee. After numerous experts, inspections, etc. my home needed nearly $300,000 in repairs to bring it to code. Then railroaded into the unimaginable! My stability and well being are gone, yet he’s still employed? To learn this was an intentional act of the employee, only made the situation more devastating ! The emotional, phycological and financial damage caused by this individual is irreparable.!

Bill Krause of Hammond Lumber in the Brunswick location worked with me over a few months while I built my first significant structure. Bill assisted me with picking out the right shed and associated plans to start my project. He went through the materials list with me line by line and offered a tremendous amount of information on options and alternative materials where he could tell I wanted to deviate from the plans a bit. They supplied all the information the town required for permits and offered his experience and insight at several steps along the way. He called and checked in to make sure I was doing well and assisted with several different orders along the way. This shed, now 'Mini Barn' wouldn't have turned out the same without Bill and the great team at Hammond. I can't believe how much time Bill offered me during my project.

Hammond has an excellent selection of building materials and supplies, tools and accessories and the folks are all eager to help with what ever you may be after. Prices are great and I'm left wondering why you'd go anywhere else for building materials as the quality and selection is excellent. The location is convenient and the folks are great. I had several deliveries of materials made to the house and the folks were all wonderful and professional. Thank you so much for everything!

The service here is always exceptional. They always help me find what I need, and give suggestions on what brands would be best for my projects. They are personable and treat me like a friend even though I only stop by once in a while.

Stopped in to get hooks. Had to hunt for them. There was signage but the hooks were placed in a category that I didn't guess.

What a stress relief working with consultant Bill Krause. No matter what problems I had, he was always ready and willing to suggest a different way of solving the problem. He is a gem to your company. Old school kindness all the way. For my project, from start to finish, everything went really well thanks to all the people involved. You have many resources at Hammond Lumber but your most valuable resources are the people who work there providing incredible customer service. Almost 3 years ago, my husband and I decided to sell our home in Brunswick and return to Cleveland when he became ill. This was the year of multiple winter storms that resulted in significant snow and ice damage to our home. At that time, I worked with Matt Stelzer at your Brunswick location to arrange for the purchase and installation of some new windows and a new roof. Throughout this process, Matt was patient, informative, efficient, helpful and sensitive to our difficult situation.
Just over a year ago I returned to Maine and moved into a newly constructed condo in Bath. Unfortunately, I have experienced problems with several of my Andersen windows. Based on my previously positive experience, I recently returned to Hammond Lumber hoping for information and guidance about my options. I first spoke with Ken Bouchard who validated my concerns showing me how Andersen windows should look and function, and informing me that Andersen would want to be made aware of my problems. Ken quickly identified Matt Stelzer as the person with whom I had previously worked and sought Matt out on my behalf. In spite of how long it had been since I had worked with Matt, he remembered our personal story and the work that was done on our home. He generously volunteered to come to my new home that same week where he examined the problem windows, and made a video on his phone documenting the structural and functional problems. He quickly provided me with the contact information for the Andersen Customer Care Line and forwarded the video to them.
People like Ken and Matt go beyond providing exceptional customer service. They serve as ambassadors for Hammond Lumber in the community. They are wonderful human beings and great examples of why people want to live in Maine. I plan to be a customer for years to come.
