This was a replacement asphalt roof on an older home in Brunswick and I am very pleased with the whole project. Cory Little made a thorough examination of the structure, including drone photos that provided great detail on what was needed. He explained options clearly and provided a quote on the spot. A few days later, Hudson showed up with a crew that got right to work raising ladders and preparing materials. The job was completed in one day — something I never would have expected — and this included several minor repairs to the underlying structure. I am left confident that the new roof is properly installed and will last for many years. Thank you, J&W.

The project manager Heath and the whole crew did an amazing job with putting the siding on. They took the time to make sure it was done right and that it looks spectacular. I called James & Whitney to get an estimate on removing metal roofing and installing asphalt shingles on my home and my garage. Tyler, (muscle man) met me at my home and went over everything that I wanted done and that evening had an estimate ready for me to view. Once I approved the estimate and made a deposit, my installation date was scheduled for the following week! Extremely fast scheduling. The dumpster and material was delivered the day before the installation. The crew showed up on time with all of their tools and ready to work! They removed the metal roof and gently stacked it on a waiting flatbed trailer so that I could repurpose the metal. Jesse, my project manager, showed up and explained everything to me in great detail and answered all of my questions. Once the metal roof was removed, they found that they needed to install a 8" strip of plywood all across the bottom of my roof and they did so with minimal cost for that unexpected problem. The crew did both my home and my garage in the one day that was promised. They not only did a fantastic job installing the two roofs but did just as great of a job cleaning up the area after they were finished. I cannot speak highly enough of James & Whitney! Devon the rep was very knowledgeable and stayed in contact throughout the whole process start to finish. Jay, the head foreman, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the work and made sure clean up was top notch. The roofers, were amazing as well. Showed up at 7am and started stripping the roof within 15mins after set up. I would recommend this group to anyone looking for a professional group to get the job done right and on time. We could not be happier with the siding work J&W did on our home. From the initial quote to working with the project manager assigned to the job they were nothing but professional. The entire process was seamless. The crew was amazing with how quickly they completed the job and the care they took in their work. At the end of the day I couldn't find as much as a nail to clean up off the lawn - they took care of everything. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Their price was more than fair and the quality work they performed is unmatched. I would reccomend this company without hesitation to anyone looking for a professional outfit to do your work. Everything got accomplished like clockwork. They arrived on time, shoveled the snow from a storm, cleared off the entire roof and put the new shingles on. They cleaned up the area making sure no nails or sharp oblects were left behind. They worked non-stop untill it got done, all in one day. The roof looks great. My wife and I couldn't be happier.

I had my roof replaced on April 14 by James & Whitney Company. To me, my roof replacement job was complex because my roof was a hip roof, joined by another hip roof of a different height, joined by a sunroom roof of a different height to that, with a very low pitch. Both hip roofs were joined seamlessly. Old decking was made up of smaller boards, so new 4x8 sheets of plywood decking were needed throughout to ensure consistent base for new shingles to go onto. The flashing at the base of the brick chimney, as well as the stone chimney, was redone and looks very nice! Cricket was added behind the stone chimney to help disperse water to either side of the chimney. The finished look is breath-taking! The drip edge they used gives crisp, straight lines throughout. Their "attention to detail" is top notch, with special care taken where the sunroom Flintlastic low slope roofing meets the shingled roof. A fascia section highly exposed to moisture was replaced with a PVC fascia, so I never have to worry about sanding and painting that section in the future. From the beginning of the project with Tyler taking the time to go over all my options and recommendations and responding to all my questions, to Brandon ensuring all is running according to plan and including the dumpster pickup that happened the very next day, to the crew working very hard to ensure this project started and finished on the same day, and the cleanup that resulted afterwards. I am extremely happy with the results! This crew is very hard working and they work extremely well together. The few times I looked out my window, there was a flurry of activity every time! When the project was done, special care was taken to rake the area clean of any and all debris, and they used used a wheeled magnet to ensure every last nail got picked up. I highly recommend them!

Our church recently had J&W replace two roofs at our facility. One metal with a concern of too much weigh for balloon construction and an asphalt roof on the parsonage. Troy presented an estimate on each building that was so professional, detailed, and affordable. He was patient each time we spoke and provided the answers to questions congregation members threw at him, all with a smile. They started one week after we accepted and were done in two days for such a large project. During the project Brandon, the project manager was on site several times a day to instruct, inspect, and provide material. He kept me informed at the site and by phone; always pleasant and helpful. The workers were polite and cleaned up each day to minimize disruption in the parking lot.
This is my second encounter with J&W as they roofed our home 3 years ago. I highly recommend you hire them, they are the best!

If you are looking for a company to do your roofing I highly recommend James & Whitney. I had them shingle my roof last year on my home & they did a wonderful job.We had big storm after & a tree limb came down & cut a slit in my new shingles. I didn’t know that until recently. I call them & they came over within a couple of hours. They went up & Checked it out. Even though it wasn’t worker error they went & got some matching shingles & repaired the hole all within a few hours of my calling. They told me no charge I was very greatful to say the least. We contracted with James & Whitney to redo our roof and replace an existing door and window in our 20yr old home. Having grown up in the construction business, this has to be one of the most organized firms I've experienced working with.

I had some minor frustration with picking out a door within their allowance, without actually knowing the allowance or cost of doors in the showroom I was sent to, but aside from that it was as near-perfect an experience you could expect.

Purchased a house that needed a new roof sooner rather than later. James & Whitney Co were quick to respond, and quick to get on-site with an estimate. The estimate was quite accurate, and well formatted. The originally scheduled day was forecasted to be a soaker, so they were quick to reschedule and got the roof done before the originally scheduled day. We recently had eleven vinyl replacement windows installed on a summer home we own in Lincolnville Maine. We chose James & Whitney Co. to perform the work because we had them complete two other large jobs on the house this past year (two roof shingle jobs). The work was top-notch both times. Jay Violette was the project manager for the window job. All eleven windows were installed in one day and, once again, the work was excellent. The crew was very neat, and left the interior of the house as clean as it was prior to them arriving. It also should be pointed out that another supervisor at James & Whitney, Troy Trimble, was responsible for the overseeing of the shingle jobs we had done. I would highly recommend James & Whitney for any construction work you may need on your own property. They are honest, trustworthy, and very fair on their pricing.

We have an old barn whose roof was seriously leaking & deteriorating. Jesse and his crew did an amazing job. They stripped the old shingles, tore off all the rotting sheathing, dismantled some rotting structural beams and posts, installed new timbers and framing as needed to shore things up, being thoughtful to match the new wood with the old as much as possible, resheathed the roof, installed new shingles, did a thorough job cleaning up. All in 2 days. I'd hire them again for sure.

The estimate was prompt and super detailed, and the communication with our project manager was friendly and clear. Our PM took great care to make sure specific parts of our yard (like vegetable garden beds close to the house) were protected from falling shingles during the old roof removal, and once the new one was installed, him and his crew did a thorough job cleaning debris.

I could not be more pleased. Every step of replacing my roof was clear and professional. The estimator climbed up on every surface, took pictures to document issues and problems, came in the house up into the attics to look for any issues not viewable on top – no other outfit did ANYthing like that. The price matched almost exactly the other bids. Communication was great all through the project and the crew was astonishing – in one day 8 of them stripped and replaced the roof, re-leaded the chimney, added flashing where there had never been any, and when they left there was no visible trace they had been here at all – except for a beautiful new roof. The construction crew was amazing, did the work so quickly and expertly once they arrived.
The salesman oversold their availability. He said he thought it would be 4 to 6 weeks before construction began and it took 6 months. I called and emailed many times, but nothing seemed to help and I didn't get any explanation.
I have gave a sizeable deposit within a day of choosing them, and choose them because they said they could get right to it... they didn't. And the project came in significantly above the quote.
The work was completed and well done, but It was expensive and very slow to begin.
I wouldn't say keep away, the work was great, but I wasn't impressed with the company at all. Be sure to make them put start dates in the contract.

Our Condo. Association used James & Whitney Co. services twice this year. They repaired some winter storm damage [small area of roof and damaged siding] on a semi-urgent basis and then did a planned roof replacement project [removing old metal roofing and installing new shingle roofs and gutters]. Their staff have been great to work with from Rick Zampini, who assessed and estimated both projects, to Nick Alger, the Project Manager for both our projects, to the remarkable work crews who worked in cold temps to do the storm repairs and in awful heat and humidity to do the roofing project. We have been very pleased with the results. The staff has been responsive, attentive and flexible about scheduling the work. They understood our financial issues and made great suggestions that helped us choose a path we could afford. They have been prompt and professional and cleaned up wonderfully after their work. I highly recommend this company and we will not hesitate to use their services again.

As the owner of a service business, I'm a bit fanatical about the service and quality provided by the trades. We engaged J & W for a large whole house siding project, removing all existing siding, wrap ,trim, soffits, and repairing some underlying damage that became apparent once old siding was removed. The project took a few weeks and their crew of six did a terrific job. They left the property clean every night and we could not be happier with the finished product. Changing from old horizontal siding to vertical board and batten by Everlast was not an easy task. Big shout out to the Project Manager, Jessie Tinker, who's attention to detail and keeping us informed was outstanding. He was on-site several times a day, is a skilled professional, responsive, and is a hell of a nice guy to boot. I would HIGHLY recommend J & W for any exterior project. PS - Of the three quotes we obtained, J & W was square in the middle. Worth every penny.

We needed a new roof and got a few quotes. One of them was James and Whitney. We decided to go with them. Best decision we made. The crew we had was great. They worked the first day from 7 AM to 8:30 PM. We were supposed to get rain and they wanted to get as much done as possible. The next day they were here at 8AM. They finished the job by 4PM. The roof looked amazing and they left no mess. Everything was picked up and cleaned. I would definitely use this company again especially if we had the same crew. We love our garage roof! We suffered a lot of damage over the years due to various storms and had a leak with damaged decking. It's fixed and we couldn't be happier with it. Excellent roofing job. The crew arrived at 7:00 am and stayed on the job until 7:00 pm when the job was completed and inspected and we were satisfied. Very professional, very hard working crew who know their business. No more leaks and the roof looks great. They cleaned up as they worked and left nothing behind. We highly recommend them.

I was familiar with the James & Whitney company via word of mouth and seeing their signs on jobs in the areas that I live and work.
When it came time for our 2024 exterior renovation on our 125 year old,d house, I contacted them. Corey Foye was my salesman. He came to the house, listened to what my thoughts were for a renovation. Corey took many notes and measurements and educated me on my options that suited my needs and offer products in different price ranges. He came up with estimates for different scenarios. I choose roofing materials, windows and siding based on his recommendations. The roof went on immediately in May. Due to the old age of our house each window had to be manufactured because of unusual sizes, etc. Corey explained the process and explained that this would take longer than just being able to place in inserts. During the early phase of the Reno, lead paint was discovered on the clap boards underneath the vinyl siding. Corey connected me with a lead abatement company. In July the lead was removed along with all other exterior products exposing the original rough sawn boards. A true treasure to find/see. Once that was completed the new vapor barrier, insulation, new windows and siding went on. During this phase Jay Violet was the lead. He walked me through what to expect and when. I couldn’t have asked for a more professional person to guide me through. There was always a team of between 4-6 gentlemen working daily on this large project. Always on time, kind and courteous. When the project wrapped up in Oct. the property was cleaned up, no debris left behind.
Funny story…about a week after the project was completed I was home one morning and there was a knock on the door. It was another James & Whitney salesman. He explained that one of his customers explained they had driven past our house and saw our choice of products and the James & Whitney signs in the yard. His customer says “ we want whatever the people at (our address) is putting on their house!” What a compliment!
My experience with James & Whitney could not have been any better.

Had James and Whitney come out to look at my roof as I saw a small leak spot on ceiling. He came out went on the roof and I’m curious I went with him. He inspected my roof and told me flat out you don’t need a new roof. It’s probably from snow that was on the roof this winter that came back with the wind. I respect his honesty as he told me the roof looks good but you probably have 3-5 years left on this roof. Because of the honesty of this company I will use them when it does come time to replace the roof. Thank you James and Whitney for your honesty it was much appreciated.

I had James & Whitney perform two separate jobs in one day, and I couldn't be happier with the results. They reflashed and repointed my chimney on my home, and repaired some shingles on my apartment building from previous shoddy work by another contractor. Troy Trimble inspected both properties and supplied a quote for various repair options. After making my selections, the work was scheduled and JD Veilleux, project manager, oversaw the entire process. Communication was on point. I was consulted on every decision and notified of any scheduling changes. They all treated me with professionalism and were courteous. They will be my first call for any future projects.

I had a small leak in my roof and contacted James & Whitney. They were very punctual in returning my email and prompt with the estimate. Excellent service, excellent work, excellent price. James and Whitney is a one stop shop for all your home needs. Had my roof and siding done and I have given my home a major face lift. The house looks great, can't recommend these guys enough.

My mother had a leak alongside her chimney on the inside of the house. J&W did a thorough analysis and scoped out work to do much needed roof repair. The leads and team did a great job. A week later during rain, the leak was still there. Turns out the problem was also with the chimney itself. We were confused why this wasn't mentioned in the original quote but liked the team and service and let it go.
When we asked J&W to scope out the job to repair the chimney everything changed. The lead scheduled time to come by and didn't show, then scheduled another time and showed up 3 hours late. He seems like a great person and perhaps is over scheduled? He finally arrived and did some analysis and said he would follow up with a recommendation and quote after consulting with the chimney expert, but the follow up never came.
So we saw two sides of the company. One side was really professional and great communicators, and the other side was communication lacking and frankly confusing. Why ghost someone you were so dedicated to helping? Why not be honest and direct if for some reason you were unable to take the job? It's too bad because the team seemed really great.

We had significant storm damage after a huge tree fell on our house in a January winter storm. It was an emergency project given the amount of damage to the roof, windows, doors, siding, stairs, interior drywall, etc. James and Whitney's Builders and Restorers Group took great care of us. Travis and his team knew how stressful the situation was for us and they helped us navigate the insurance process while also just doing a stellar job with the repairs. We have an 1890s farmhouse, so getting the details right and matching the original character of the trim and other features was important...along with getting us patched up and weather-tight again! Huge kudos to Eric for his attention to detail and craftsmanship. This was our second project with J&W and we would definitely hire them again! Thank you Travis!

If you’re looking for a new roof, I 100% recommend James & Whitney! Steve answered all the questions I had in a timely manner, stuck to appointment times and handled everything very professionally. When it came time to the day of the job, Brandon and his group showed up on time, and got to work immediately and finished the same day! Clean up was good and they put everything they had to move, back where it was before! I can’t think everyone enough for doing such great work on our new roof.

Devon, the company representative who came to assess the roof repairs to provide a quote was courteous pleasant and professional. His approach gave me a trust level with J&H.

The roofers actually doing the work on the roof were very efficient and the roof looks good.

BUT -- they finished in the pitch black at night and wound up leaving tools and some debris behind, presumably because they could no longer see what they were doing.

ALSO -- their trailer with debris was left in my yard for four days afterward and no one ever came back to pick up the excess materials. Their planning and communication between the office and the working crew felt very lacking.

I'm happy with the finished product but very disappointed in the planning and communication. Leaves a bad taste.

I would not hesitate to call James and Whitney again for exterior projects around our home. I was really impressed with the attention to detail from not only the information included in the free quote but right down to the actual work they did to my house! We had a roof re-shingled and fascia/soffits/gutters added/replaced.

The quote had a render of my house and a detailed diagram of the proposed work, a bunch of photos of problem areas on our roof that we had never even noticed before, and etc.

I don't even think it was a month ago that I called asking for the quote and they've already been to the house and done the work. (With a snow storm in-between)

Honestly, over all just a really good experience. Everyone I spoke to was very professional. We are already looking at our deck and thinking hmm, maybe it's time to replace it LOL
