THE 406

We had eaten here with the prior Owners and thought we would try it again under new management. We were not dissappointed. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the specials. I order the crab bisque soup, excellent. Then I had the Seared Scallops with grilled asparagus and a delicious cheese cauliflower dish. My husband had the Pork tenderloin in a Marsala mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. We left full and very satisfied. A beautiful dinner prepared to perfection. We will go again! Thankyou to 406 Duval for a lovely dining experience!

My family and I have been visiting the 406 almost every weekend over the last couple of months. We love to sit outside on the patio in the evenings because the atmosphere is 10/10. We have always been well taken care of by the staff, especially Curt and any of the girls working the bar or patio. We’ve celebrated birthdays and they’ve even kept our cake in the fridge for us and offered to cut and plate the dessert. The appetizers and drinks are always top notch. We’ve had many delicious entrees, our favorites being the handmade gnocchi, the burger, the 406 chicken sandwich, and any steak on the menu. The Alfredo and the salads are also delicious. Even if service has ever been slower due to them being extremely busy, we are always well taken care of and are never in a rush because there’s usually a pleasant atmosphere of either live music or trivia night (Thursdays) to enjoy. We usually make reservations or arrive at a time when there is no wait to be seated. This is our favorite place to eat in Live Oak as there is truly no better place in town.

I've been to the 406 three times most recently this Saturday under the new owner.
Unfortunately, it didn't meet expectations. We arrived, waited about 15 minutes, and were sat next to the window. The first thing we noticed were all the flies, which was concerning making you think what was happening in the back as your food sat waiting to be picked up.

We ordered our drinks and appetizer. We noticed that other customers arrived after us got their appetizers served. I informed the waitress about our concern, asking her that if the main meal wasn't that far behind to null the appetizer. As far as the main course, food was medium in flavor, and mashed potatoes appeared to be out of a box in looks and flavor.

That is what ended up happening, canceling the whole " fine dining " experience. I can't emphasize enough that if you don't train or have employees who have the skills required to manage a dynamic environment, they will make or break the whole dining experience. It's more than just the quality of the food, but the experience in a supposed higher tier restaurant.

I made a reservation, so I was seated right away. It then took 10-15 min to even be greeted to take drink orders. We then ordered an appetizer, which they ended up being out of, so we ordered a different one. The Caesar salads that we ended up getting before the appetizers were good. The appetizer finally came out after 20 minutes we got the conch fritters, they did not have any flavor, and the texture of the conch was rubbery. We then got our entrees after another 25 minute wait. I got the Cajun pork special with mashed potatoes. The pork was cooked well, but both the pork and the sauce had no flavor at all. The mashed potatoes were instant mashed potatoes they tasted like water they were awful. My wife got the salmon, which was ok but still did not have much flavor. Also in addition to all that I could not hear my wife at all it was super loud in there, they also look to be doing a renovation as the paint looks unfinished and there are wire hanging out of the ceiling. Also, it was super hot in there about 80 plus degrees my wife was getting unbearably uncomfortable with the heat and so was I. I'm not sure what the issue was. This was not a good experience, a waste of time and money. My wife and I finally got our first date night in months, and this was a horrible experience I will not return. Avoid this place and save your money.

I have nothing bad to say about the food. In fact it was delicious. Our waitress was kind and she was going as quickly as she could considering how busy they were at the time. But they place was infested with flys so much so that at one point my husband actually said “I feel like a dog swatting these flys off my face” which is so crazy when it’s supposed to be considered high dining and you’re spending as much money. Anyways food was great but if you’re not cool with swatting flies the whole time, I’d pass.

What an amazing place. The food is always delicious every time we go. The restaurant itself is something you have to see to fully appreciate the history around it.

Love the changes they've made. New menu items are delicious! The decorative changes are also so nice! Drinks are on point and service is phenomenal!
The only thing I would love to see implemented is more ambiance in the indoor dining areas. We usually sit by the bar or outside because there's music and a more lively atmosphere. The indoor dining is a more relaxed and elegant atmosphere which I love and appreciate but some tastefull music, perhaps jazz? Wouldnt hurt. The few times we've eaten inside there's no music and it feels weird dining around other people with not background sounds makes it feel like a dining hall. Other than that, the new owners are doing a fantastic job! Highly recommend.

Had a 6pm Saturday reservation, was seated promptly, albeit directly adjacent to the hostess stand. We were so close, I could have stayed in my seat and shook the hostess’s hand through the half wall. After 15 minutes and an inquiry through the half wall, our waitress finally arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine which took another 15 minutes to be served. Once we ordered dinner, our Caesar and mixed green salads (both excellent) and main course came out in a timely fashion. I had a ribeye and my partner had the Wagu steak, which also turned out to be a ribeye. Both were perfectly grilled, the steaks and the sides were hot and delicious. In my opinion, the Wagu was not worth the extra money.
Regarding the atmosphere: I would ditch the tacky plastic plant on each table and replace with a simple cut flower. Add a candle (even the little battery operated ones are better than nothing) on top of the white tablecloths for more elegant look.
Overall, we had a great dinner in a stately old home and were pleasantly surprised on what Live Oak had to offer.

Enjoyed dinner in the backyard with live music. Very nice atmosphere, we had burgers and they were delicious. A little pricy, but great for special occasions.

This was our first visit to the 406 under the new management, and it did not disappoint!! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing, and our server, Tyson, did a great job! The Tuscan Alfredo is possibly my new favorite dish! Highly recommend!

We’ve been a few times, sit at the bar, always great friendly service and delicious specials & drinks!!
A bartender female had an attitude literally tried yelling at us for not asking for a drink rather than just setting empty on the bartenders side of bar, lmao don’t know her name but hope she’s ok!
Kurt was the BEST bartender, he was everywhere!! Really went above & beyond his job description with the whole bar area! Give that kid a raise!
All in all we love 406 and go at least once a wk. go for the conch fritters they are amazing!! Pretzel is good, Chilean bass special was excellent! Drinks are amazing too! Thank yall for your hard work it shows!

The staff is absolutely wonderful! They are very attentive and accommodating. The food is fantastic, beautifully displayed on the plate, and everything is reasonably priced.

Mr. Kyser took care of me and my husband tonight took our drinks.Did a very good job loved him to be our bartender forever. !! If you ever get the chance to come down here, ask for mr.Kayser, to be your bartender

The food was delicious, service was terrible until they changed our server, the first just forgot. From the excuse from management 6 months ago on here and the one given to us by the manager at the restaurant, it would appear that taking accountability is not a thing. Talking to some other folks we’ll try it again, as I said, food was amazing. My advice would be to consult someone about training and stronger leadership to help everyone figure out what they should do. After 5 people walked by and said nothing we got our own drinks at the bar, tells me a lot about the culture and environment of the establishment.

I have eaten here many times through many different owners.Three weird hours horrible food experiences always delicious drinks. I'm reading it on my last experience.It had a very good menu with lots of variety for once and prices were not bad. Our waitress was 18.She did not know the menu.It was very difficult ordering drinks.They should have the servers more educated.Or something to show people if they can't remember it. She did seem like she was trying to rush us.I told her I was having a nice relaxing holiday dinner with my friend and try to educate her in a fancy restaurant.You sit down.You get a drink, you leave him alone.They get an appetizer, you leave them alone.They get a salad, you leave them alone.They place the order you leave them alone.Then they get a dessert. The atmosphere could be better.They have a fancy restaurant, but it's very open like a cafeteria.They can make different rooms a lot more private feeling . Their drinks are always delicious and the desserts are always too... With a better server and then fixing it up.A little nicer on the inside.Could it get a 5 star review finally?I hated going to this place before so at least I don't dread it any now.

Discovering "The 406" in our new hometown of Live Oak Florida was a truly special experience.
From the moment we walked in, Dave and the staff welcomed us with open arms, making us feel like part of the community right away.
The food was absolutely phenomenal, crafted with care and full of flavor.
The ambiance was equally captivating, creating a space where we could relax and enjoy every moment.
This visit not only brought back fond memories from our travels but also reminded us why we chose this place to call home.

We have eaten here 3 times now and every time the drinks, food and service were great. On the latest occasion, July 20, we had several different cocktails and all were tasty but the stand outs were the warrant and the some beach. Salads with homemade blue cheese dressing were served crisp and cold and in a timely fashion. Our dinners were the chicken marsala and the coffee seasoned ribeye. The chicken was good but the steak was the standout. All the sides were delicious but the mac and cheese served in its own little crock was the best I've had in a long time. Chocolate mousse desert was wonderful

but the creme brulee was even better. Service was exceptional. Our cocktail and water glasses never got empty. A great evening with my beautiful wife, wonderful food and a great atmosphere. Please support this local gem to help keep them thriving!

We absolutely love the 406, it’s a true gem. We always sit back at the bar as we like the cocktails and the social setting. One thing I want to point out is that it’s HOT. We had dinner there tonight and packed our meals early and didn’t enjoy our drinks because it was so hot. There are two ceiling fans. One part of the bar has no fan over it at all. We completely understand it’s a historic home and that it won’t be freezing. But it was at least 80 degrees without any air circulating. This restaurant has been established long enough to improve on this. A window unit or even a few additional fans in the corners across the room would make a tremendous difference. We hope they take this suggestion seriously as it is our favorite local place to support! From lake city, Fl.

This place has a lot of potential, food is good and I appreciate how it seems most everything is made from scratch. Love the house too.
The service is very lacking. our server seemed very inexperienced. they cleared no dishes until dessert arrived and I had to ask them to clear the table. This was one thing among many that some training could fix.

Food was fine but nothing special. I had the pork chop special. It was cooked well done but tasted good. My wife had salmon so average she doesn’t remember anything about that it. Service was excellent.

Placed a to go order, got home which is 15 minutes from here and opened up our food with mine and my husbands side missing. For a place like this to call themselves high dining it sure doesn’t feel like it. Only thing was really good was the one crab cake we got for an appetizer. My daughters meal got more asparagus than my husbands dinner. I called once I got home to tell them about our missing sides. Lady I spoke to only huffed and said very rude sorry!!! didn’t try to replace my order or anything. I would expect more for paying the price they charge. Oh and not to mention for $3 drink was the size of a kids cup. Literally a very small cup at that.

Haven't been in years, and I thought we would like to give it a try. Service was slow, and I had to ask for water refills 3 times and no croutons on salad as well as missing one side dish. Grouper meals, ribbeye, and chicken were really good and hot. 5 on food, service 3-4 $$$

I would leave 4 1/2 stars. Not as good as the best filet or shrimp i've ever had (both in New Orleans) but it was close. If the R\"red blend"" looks like a good wine choice

Service could have been better , but the prime rib was VERY good . Wasn't overly crowded but service was a lil lacking for that level of a crowd .

I can’t say enough good things about our first experience at The 406! The server, Alicia, was on point. She was 100% knowledge about the dinner and cocktail menus- which change as needed- and she was also knowledgeable about the history of the original builder and family of the house. The Chef was amazing and every dish we had was PERFECT. From appetizers to entrees to dessert and cocktails-100% delicious and unique.

We will be back and hope to be regular patrons.

The place is amazing. The staff were very kind, and the place was clean and in shape. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Price would fine if the portions were bigger. Taste was great. Environment was A1. Customer service was good as well.

Had reservation since January 16 for Valentine's Day just to be told sorry your table is not available for your 630 reservation and you will need to sit in bar but no one saved us and now it's 715. First experience and it's not a good one. I guess they don't need our money

Incredible place! Fantastic food, amazing service and such a fun back patio. They had live music the night we were there and it was terrific.

There were six of us, everyone enjoyed their meal. It was brunch, therefore a mix of breakfast and lunch meals.
Service was excellent.

Heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try. The house is BEAUTIFUL, we went on a Sunday Brunch time. The servers were excellent, our food was excellent and the atmosphere was amazing. We are planning a trip back for the regular menu, but if their brunch menu is any indication, it will be a regular stop for us for sure.

Enjoyed special Holiday cocktails and starters before Suwannee Lights. Charming house. Great service, thank you, Lisa! Definitely plan to return...

As I write this review I have been waiting an hour and a half and still don't have my entree or my drink refilled. Appetizer that did come out was barely warm. If the service was better and more attentive I would think about putting in another star but as of right now, the long wait is not worth it.

Update: it took 2hrs to receive our cold to barely warm entrees. Although my entree was well seasoned and good it was not worth the wait overall. Sad part is me and my family went to Chilli's the next day and the food was better and we had a complete meal, appetozer, desert, drinks and all under an hour. This place is not worth the wait and not worth the 150 bill for one crab cake for the appetizer, a soup, and 3 entrees.

So disappointed!
The service was super slow 90 minutes for an appetizer, they forgot several drinks and those we did get had very cheap terrible alcohol (martini, Cosmo, appletini) food was hit and miss. lukewarm crab bisque soup but then crab cake redeemed the place a little it was delicious even Luke warm. If I ever come back I could eat just the crab cake and be happy.
Entrees again luke warm but the Grouper and the redfish were tasty, with unfortunately cold veggies, then the mixed seafood dish was like a treasure hunt. One or two delicious pieces in amongst off or old fish and muscles that were old or off not sure. Super salty parts as well I feel a bit ill afterwards tbh but at least we got a peice of cheesecake to make it up? I guess. Will maybe have some fast food on the way home!
Will be a while till we come back, if ever, and will not be recommending to anyone I know.

We were passing through creating videos and music for our latest album (sunlock.studio) when we decided to try one of the more upscale places in Live Oak. My bandmate wanted the chocolate mousse. They didn't have it. Score one star! Why? Because they further explained the specific supplier had run out of chocolate. Any restaurant willing to sacrifice no chocolate but the perfect chocolate is good in my book.
We ordered the Chicken Piccata, Louisiana Fish, Crab cake app, Bread Pudding, and Creme Brûlée. Our only mistake was taking it to go.
Obviously there will no plating and proper sauce separation in to-go boxes, but that was on us. Otherwise, everything was gone within a short period of time. Perfection. That is all.

This was by far one of the best meals my boyfriend and I have every had. Everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection. From the appetizers to the desserts, it was a 10/10 for us. Everything was made from scratch, even the caramel sauce on the cheesecake. We will definitely be returning!
