I took my 2014 Chevrolet IMPALA to MAACO’s in Pearl City for an estimate paint job and was offered a reasonable price on a urethane application. The vehicle had paint peeling from its hood and some minor rusting on the roof along the water runoff rails. There were no issues with bodywork that required any repairs. After returning home to consider the offer I decided to empty out all of my personal possessions from the trunk and drove back to MAACO’s with my 10- year old vehicle and paid them in full with cash for the guaranteed price I was quoted that day.
I submitted my car into the paint shop and the full payment on January 15, 2025 and the work was completed and I received it back on February 4, 2025. On hindsight I should’ve done a complete overall inspection of my car with the owner of MAACO “before and after” just to make certain there were no issues whatsoever afterwards when the work was completed and I received back my vehicle.
After a couple days of viewing my vehicle from every angle during daily use I began to notice that there were some “minor issues” I should’ve noted and should have had the paint shop address before driving away after the work reportedly completed.
One of the very first problems that was sorely noted was “damage” to my my right front passenger side tire hubcap which I had just replaced before delivering it to the MAACO paint shop ~ they were “brand new” right out of the box that I had received from Amazon. After closer inspection I began to also observe obvious signs of “overspray” onto each of the new hubcaps and that on other areas the “tape-masking” wasn’t done properly and the new white paint was clearly visible contrasting against the black trim fixtures. There was only one very minor issue and that was the missing Chevrolet “gold” Bow Tie emblem on the rear trunk lid that was removed and wasn’t replaced. The owner of MAACO’s made sure to have me order and purchase from CUTTER CHEVROLET the Impala deer emblem and the wordage “I M P A L A” emblems but forgot about the bow tie on the rear trunk lid.
Except for these few minor things I am so far hesitantly reserved about this painting job and with fingers crossed am hopping that I will find no further details that would want me to have any further questions about the work done by MAACO’s. Suffice to say I am so far satisfied and for the market price, workmanship that I received I would recommend MAACO but only after you’ve done all of your homework thoroughly, inquired into what other shops have to offer, compared other prices, researched comments from other customers, vendors and don’t just jump at the very first best good offer that is tossed at you with a “time sensitive” condition. Take the time time to consider all options ~ I would have called my “AUTO INSURANCE” agent to ask what “Body / Paint Shop” they consistently use for their customers to paint and repair vehicle collisions. Lots to consider when spending THOUSANDS $$$ dollars on one of your major investments your “CAR” that supports your livelihood, shopping and allows you to conduct your daily business on this island. I’m retired and barely living off the federal government Social Security Benefits and a meager Employee Retirement Pension so every single “COIN” matters. I need my vehicle to primarily transport me to the DIALYSIS CLINIC three times weekly to receive 4-hours of blood cleansing treatments ~ A matter of life or death in my case. I can no longer afford to purchase a brand new vehicle at today’s prices and need to maintain the car I already own and operate. It’s not much but there are no major issues, mechanical or otherwise, so it’s worth it to get a new fresh paint job to extend the life of the “exterior-body” before the “rust / paint peeling” worsened.
