My elderly mother and I first learned about Capital Remodeling through a newspaper ad in February of 2022. After researching some of their previous projects, the company seemed to do decent work, so we decided to give them a shot. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing experiences we’ve ever had.
In our case, Capital Remodeling hired subcontractors to do their work, which resulted in random crews being sent to our home. The first team did a poor job from the start. They failed to measure properly, which caused multiple issues that should have been avoided. To make matters worse, the project manager repeatedly told us fixing these problems would require additional charges, even though we assumed they were included in the original scope of work. For example, they mismeasured the microwave exhaust vent and ordered insufficient flooring materials.
The project was plagued by delays. The company frequently arrived late or canceled appointments at the last minute, which was incredibly frustrating. When we tried to escalate our concerns, getting in touch with a supervisor was next to impossible—calls went straight to voicemail, and no one followed up.
One of the first red flags was their confusing and inconsistent pricing. We were quoted different prices depending on whether we signed a contract the day of the sales meeting or agreed to alternate deadlines shortly after. This pressured approach felt manipulative and unprofessional, and in hindsight, we should have taken it as a warning sign.
The salesman assured us that the cabinets would be made of solid wood. However, after signing the contract and during installation, we discovered the cabinets were actually made of plywood. The quality was disappointing—the cabinets are poorly constructed, the paint chips easily, and they lack durability.
The tile work in the kitchen was sloppy from the start and has degraded over the years. The tiles have developed cracks along the edges and around the areas where the counters meet the walls. The plaster work was equally unprofessional, and they don’t include painting in their services, leaving that task entirely to the homeowner.
We had seven windows installed, including one in the kitchen. During installation, the crew cut bricks out and carelessly tossed them onto the driveway without any protective measures. When installing the kitchen window, they placed some of the bricks backward. The work was so bad that I had to hire a separate mason to fix their mistakes out of pocket. Although the company refunded me $500 as compensation, it didn’t come close to covering the repair costs.
We had a bedroom wall removed to extend the kitchen, but the team failed to properly address the flooring underneath. Now, there’s a noticeable gap under the flooring in that area, and the fridge doesn’t sit level. The lack of attention to detail throughout the project was disappointing and unacceptable.
The windows they installed have been problematic from the start. During temperature fluctuations in the winter and summer, the windows make cracking noises, which has been both frustrating and concerning. Their quality falls far below what was promised.
The only person who seemed to care about customer service was their receptionist, Vanessa. She consistently followed up with me when no one else would and made an effort to address my concerns. Without her, this already stressful process would have been even more difficult.
This kitchen remodel was intended to create a safe and functional space for my elderly mother, but the experience with Capital Remodeling was nothing short of a nightmare. Their poor workmanship, lack of professionalism, misleading pricing practices, and use of inferior materials left us deeply disappointed. Please don’t believe their sales promises. I truly don’t understand how they are still in business, and I hope that their lack of quality catches up with them. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration—avoid Capital Remodeling at all costs.
