Advocate Construction - Troy, MI

We hired Advocate in August 2024 to help us pursue a full roof replacement through our insurance company. The process started off rough—communication was inconsistent, timelines weren’t followed, and we often had to chase down responses or redo steps that should have been handled by the company. It took over two months just to get the initial documentation sent to our insurance adjuster, despite repeated promises and reminders.

Once the project was approved, things moved forward—though not always smoothly. The roof installation around the holidays involved missed communication, last-minute changes, and unfortunately, tarps wasn’t placed during a pause in construction for Christmas —which led to interior leaks. Cleanup was also delayed, and we found ourselves repeatedly following up to get the property safe and finished.

That said, Advocate did ultimately take responsibility. They deducted the cost of the interior repairs from our final bill and closed out the project professionally. Importantly once Jack Higgins stepped in, communication improved dramatically—he was responsive, respectful, and clearly invested in resolving things properly. The kind of person you want to work with again and refer to others! We really appreciated his involvement.

In the end, the roof looks beautiful and was completely covered by insurance—we had zero out-of-pocket costs. That’s a huge win and something we don’t take for granted, and didn’t think was possible given our circumstances.

If you’re considering Advocate, they can get great results, especially when it comes to navigating insurance. Just be prepared to stay involved, follow up regularly, and get everything in writing. It’s not a hands-off experience, but it can be a worthwhile one.

Advocate Construction don't deserve the high rating on google. I strongly advise homeowners to exercise caution when considering Advocate Construction for roofing services. If your roof is fine and one day you see these Advocate guys knocking on your door telling you that you are eligible for roof replacement due to hail damage please be cautious.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the services provided by this company. Following their roof installation, I promptly reported a leak. Despite multiple attempts to schedule repairs, they failed to show up on three to four occasions without any prior notice. They claim to offer a two-year warranty on their work; however, they have not honored this commitment. Instead of addressing the issue, they insisted on receiving final payment and threatened to report me for non-payment.

I recommend that any homeowner considering this company ensure they receive all necessary documentation, including licenses and permits. Additionally, taking comprehensive before-and-after photos or videos of the work performed is advisable.

I hope more people would come out and expose these guys. I wish one day God would punish them. I believe in Karma.

Storm Chaser company. They did my neighbor's roofs and knock my door numerous times to sell me new roof through insurance claim due hail storm. I went to weather reports and found there was hail less than year ago in the city next to us. Hail size was less an inch. So I called 4 different contractors to see if there any hail damage on my roof. All said same thing - roof is not new but not a single dent anywhere on shingles or on metal vent boxes. And on my question - how is it two houses next to me got roof replacement covered by insurance claim due hail damage and my house doesn't have a single sign of it? - they all told me the same - IT IS FRAUD! Somehow they work with insurance adjusters and claims magically got approved while no real damage.
I asked my neighbors what shingles they used - TAMKO. It's probably cheapest roof materials you can find. When I asked other contractors about this shingles - they all laughed - TAMKO absolutely not! It's builder-grade shingles that will save you a dollar but will not last long.

Connor H. was great to work with! He guided us through the entire process of getting a new roof, making what could have been a stressful experience incredibly smooth and hassle-free. He helped us navigate everything with the insurance company, and answered any questions we had along the way. His knowledge made a huge difference, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. My insurance adjuster was not easy to work with, but Advocate’s employees were excellent with follow-up and communicated with my insurance company in order to reduce my frustration. In June 2024, representatives from Advocate solicited us to inspect our home to evaluate it for hail damage which they found. We filed a claim with our insurance company who agreed to reside our siding. Representatives then returned for another evaluation in July 2024. However, when workers came to begin the job in September 2024, they said they couldn't do it because our sun porch roof would not sustain them to work on it. From September on, we had to chase them down to get any sort of updates. We kept getting the run around. The insurance adjuster came back in early November to reassess and increased the estimate. We still had to chase the representatives down to schedule an installation date. Finally, on Nov. 22, 2024, we were told they are cancelling our contract because they would lose money on our house. Horrible service. The siding has been sitting in our driveway since September. They knocked on our door; they sold us on this instatllation; they assured us that insurance would cover the cost & then 5-6 months later tell us it's not possible and they are letting us out of the contract. Homeowners Beware! Insurance companies beware! We will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well.

Per the response - you came to us. You had 2 of your employees survey our house and schedule the job. It is not our fault that they got it wrong. You should honor your contract and complete the job. The insurance company even increased its funding to allow for the reinforcement of the job. You are choosing not to do the job because it will cost you money based on your employees' errors. You did not follow up with us. We had to constantly call you for any updates. You were hoping that we would go away. That is bad business. That is not reputable service. A complaint has been filed with the BBB.

Advocate Construction highly recommend. Great workmanship, careful, on time Sadio (Sam) was the best leader. Roof was competed perfectly. They cleaned up everything.very nice were careful about my flowers.

This company makes it so easy to deal with such stressful times especially with insurance. Endri made it a breeze where I barely had to lift a finger with my busy work schedule.They pulled all the permits with my city and followed code to a T. Advocate Construction just finished my home and 2.5 car garage roofs and I am beyond pleased with the finished products. The whole process was so minimal on my end, they handled everything, including dealing with the insurance agency. And they kept me in the loop through the entire process.

The construction team did a great job, above and beyond. I particularly liked that an advocate worker came to inspect the quality of the roof after and recheck that not a single nail had gone astray in the yard. Also the choices of roof singles was so nice that I had a hard time picking, but am so pleased with the new color on my yellow brick home.

A company is as good as their employees. I highly recommend Endri as your sales rep. He is an outstanding, honest, caring and trustworthy person. He made it feel like I was dealing with family. He answered all my questions and concerns. Everything was completed on time as promised. I referred my family and friends to Endri and they all say he is amazing.

As a first time home buyer, I've had several issues owning my house and through all the repairs I've had, working with Connor and Jack from Advocate was an amazing experience. They answered all my questions and helped me work with my insurance company, which I've had trouble with before. I've had a lot less transparency with other contractors and they assured me a lot of this was just about working against the clock and they were right. We got what we needed done and everything worked out. I couldn't be happier with the result. The work was done quickly, so I expect a handful of nails on my driveway (they redid my roof and my siding that was damaged from rain and hail). They even fixed a piece of trim that was bugging me that I planned on getting repaired.

Our experience with Advocate Construction has been deeply disappointing, and I cannot recommend their services.

From the very beginning, the reality of their work fell far short of what was promised by their sales representative. We were assured that the job would be completed in a single day, yet it ended up taking several days. Unfortunately, the delays were not the only issue; the quality of the work left much to be desired.

Specific issues included:

They ran out of shingles and used mismatched ones from their truck to finish the job, which had to be corrected later.
They left our gutters full of nails. Despite multiple return visits, they only cleaned the gutters where I had taken photos, ignoring others that were also filled with debris. They claimed that the other gutters were clean and even had pictures to prove it, but they never provided those photos.
One piece of shingle either wasn’t properly installed or fell off shortly after the job was "completed," necessitating yet another return visit.
However, the most significant issue arose from the water damage caused by their inadequate waterproofing of our new roof. During a heavy rainstorm, water began dripping from a built-in bookshelf beneath a bay window. I contacted Advocate immediately, and while they did fix the roofing issue that caused the leak, the damage inside my home was already done. I obtained a quote from a professional restoration company to repair the interior damage, but Advocate has refused to cover the full cost, offering only partial payment. My insurance also declined to cover the expenses, citing that the damage was directly caused by Advocate Construction's work. Now, I'm left with a bill totaling thousands of dollars.

In summary, the poor workmanship, repeated delays, and unresolved damage have led to an incredibly frustrating experience. I would strongly advise others to consider alternative contractors before hiring Advocate Construction.

Jack and Parker were very helpful throughout the process. Answering any question and explaining the process. During the construction phase they came out before and after to make sure everything was done properly.

Please do your due diligence before hiring this company. Since people often use reviews to make decisions about companies, I feel obligated to share my experience with Advocate Construction so that others may not have the same experience as me. I’m glad that some people have had positive experiences with Advocate Construction and their team, but that was not the case in our situation. I wonder if some of the positive reviews would feel the same way after their roof has been in place for a few years. Once Advocate installed our roof, we immediately knew there were issues. Many areas of the roof didn’t look right and the workmanship was not good, to say the least. Additionally, there was thousands of dollars of damage to our property. After the roof installation, Advocate came out to our property numerous times to document and address issues. It seemed as though their team pushed back on almost every issue, saying that it “functioned just fine”. The valleys that were installed backwards, “functioned just fine”. The drip edge that was bowing away from the house, “functioned just fine”. Our composite deck that was scraped up and completely ruined, “functioned just fine”. The gutters that were scraped up and dented, “functioned just fine”. The list goes on. Even when Advocate would finally agree to address an issue, they would end up causing additional damage to the property and the work was done so poorly that it would need to be fixed again. Since there were so many issues with the roof and the quality of their work, we were concerned that the roof was not installed properly, so we hired an independent inspector to provide a full report. Based on the report, many areas of the roof were not installed to code or the manufacturers recommendations. Additionally, there have been other issues discovered after the initial inspection. At this point, the only repair is to completely remove the roof and start over. It is concerning that after more than seven months, we are no closer to a completed roof or our property being returned to it’s original state. On Advocate’s website, it states that Advocate Construction values integrity, individual responsibility, and quality. I have not found any of these values to apply in my situation and I’m wondering how many other people in the area are having similar issues with Advocate. I feel very taken advantage of and that is not right. Advocate Construction needs to step up and take responsibility for their work. That means addressing the issues with my roof, as well as the damage that was done to my property. You would think that an inspection report from an independent certified inspector and clear damage to my property that was not present before the roof install would be enough evidence. It’s easy to take credit when everything goes right with a job. A company that truly has integrity is willing to take responsibility when things don’t go right. I hope that this review causes anyone that reads it to pause and thoroughly evaluate whether Advocate Construction is the right company for them.

Mario Mance was assigned to our project, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Mario provided clear instructions and explanations about the process and acted on our behalf with the insurance company and inspector. Once everything was in order, and we had decent weather, they replaced our roof in one day! Appreciated the follow-up from their Construction Manager the next day who came to review the completed project and to check around the house with a magnetic sweeper for nails, and to leave the grounds as clean as possible. A couple weeks after they finished work, one of the gutter pipes fell down which was good for me to find out that they didn't install some shingles professionally and there was damaged wood that they didn't fix them or report that to me. It has been over a month since I contacted them and nobody called me back.

Update: the company contacted me right after the review. They offered to repair the damage and cover the cost. I appreciate that. I hope that was happened before I had to write the review. I updated the original review as a result of that.
