Advocate Construction - Glendale Heights, IL

Advocate came to our door and noted that we had hail and wind damage to our roof. We went through the entire process, filed a claim with our insurance company and the insurance processor came and inspected our roof. Our insurance company denied our claim, but advocate said we can move forward with taking more pictures and re-submitting the claim to try again. However, we never heard back again. We were ghosted and it’s been weeks with our texts being ignored. Waste of time.

Advocate Construction worked with our insurance provider to replace the roof and siding due to wind and hail damage. They handled the process with the insurance company and were able to get enought to replace the entire roof and all of the siding. The process was very easy and painless. Craig and Akeem described the entire process of replacing the roof and siding. They answered all of our questions and concerns. The installers were protected all our plants and patio furniture. After the work was completed, the cleaned all the debris. The roof and siding look great.

Great company to work with. They replaced my roof in May of 2024 because of hail damage that occurred a few months prior. The communication and ease of filing a claim was amazing. They kept me informed every step of the way, especially Michael Martens. The workmanship was excellent and I am completely happy with the final product. Any questions that I had were either answered via email or personal phone call or text message in a very timely manner. They continued to follow up with me and still do making sure that everything has worked out according to my satisfaction. I highly recommend this company!

My first encounter with Advocate Construction was in the summer of 2024. They were in my neighborhood filing insurance claims from the May hailstorm. Their salesperson was very knowledgeable in inspecting my house for damage and filing the Insurance claim.
After everything was filed and approved. We set up a tentative date to have my roof replaced. It was at this time that I informed the sales rep that I would be going into my attic and inspecting to make sure that they replace my roof fans in the correct position. I also laid out my expectations of what needed to be done (Flashing installed, make a tighter transition of the vinyl siding to the shingles, and assure that there will be no leaks where the upper roof meets the lower roof).
The disappointments started on November 12th, 2024, when the roofers were supposed to show up at 7AM. They didn’t show. After calling the office, they had told me they were finishing up a job from the day before and that they would be at my house by 9AM. 9AM come and went. I called them again; they assured me they were coming. The crew arrived at 11:42 AM. I had no idea that they were planning on trying to finish this roof in 1/2 of a day. But that was their plan.
Now come the time to go up in the attic for my inspection. What I discovered is that their nails were way too long and for some reason it was breaking my plywood decking apart. I immediately went down to talk to the foreman. He called the office, and they told him to take pictures of the damage. Afterward I spoke with management from the office. I was demanding that they replace the damaged plywood. (At this point, they were almost 1/2 of the way done installing the shingles). I thought they would stop and assess the situation. But that was not the case. The management told me that had to close the house up (finish all of the shingles) and we would talk about this damage later.
Now that later has come, the only talking they are doing is on how to get out of re-roofing my house. The inspection that I had done revealed faulty nails, the nails were blunt on the top. Also, they didn’t follow Owen’s Corning’s installation instructions and on top of that drove nails into my roof decking crooked. I only lifted up 6 shingles on my roof to inspect the crooked nail patterns and for broken shingles. In every row that I lifted, there was improper installation noted. On one row, the nail must have struck another nail that was holding down the sheathing, because it just bent over and was sticking up by 3/8”. They just left that there. One of the rows by my roof fan is only nailed down with one nail (obviously because they didn’t remove the cover to nail this down properly). Owen’s Corning nail specification is minimum 3/8”. The nails they used were 1 1/4” long (way too long for my 1/2” sheathing) and the head diameter is 7/32” (smaller than the minimum of 3/8”). Then on top of this, they were supposed to install a synthetic underpayment, which they just used 15lb. Felt. After my inspection, the roof fan is not centered over the hole in the roof!!
All of this is totally unacceptable to me. The company is supposed to have a warranty on their workmanship. But to this point of my writing this review, the only offer from them was to somehow lift up one of the shingles, remove the nail and reinstall a nail. This is not physically possible to do without damaging the shingles (the nail needs to be driven straight). They also offered to repair a leak on the brand-new roof and repair the damage that their contractor has done to my gutter and fascia. At this point and time, I can accept nothing less that to replace the plywood sheathing they damaged, install the flashing that they never replaced, and re-roof the house and repair the damages they caused.
Advocate Construction is claiming that their warranty doesn't start until the job is finished and that I have paid them. They haven't completed the job.
I am appalled that this Company is not honoring their warranty on their defective workmanship.

This is my reason for my review. Beware.

We had a great experience with the Advocate Construction staff and crew during our roof, siding and gutter cover replacements this year. Everyone was great in keeping us informed of when they would be arriving and notifying us of any unexpected changes to the schedule. All three teams that arrived worked efficiently and did a nice job cleaning up afterwards.

We worked very closely with Nicholas Wilfinger who was a consummate professional and responded promptly to our inquiries. He was instrumental in sorting out any issues/delays we brought to his attention. His attention to customer service is second to none. He is definitely an asset to Advocate Construction. As a customer we greatly appreciate his help in navigating the intricacies of the construction/replacement process and "advocating" for the customer.

Advocate replace the roof and will replace gutters. Replacement is done because of the hail damage. I worked with Kiren Mathiew. He did great job explaining the whole process and giving me step by step instruction what needed to be done. Roofing job was also the highest quality.

The experience from Inspection to Installation was really good. I had tons of questions and Kiren and the team addressed them promptly and with patience. The team at Advocate Construction up and disappeared during my roof repair insurance claim process. Leo Montiel and his apparent boss, Michal both stood on my lawn and gave me their sales pitch. I explained very clearly my reservations about the roof, but they insisted they would get the job done.

Well, fast forward to after the first insurance adjustment review. The insurance adjuster was not in favor (most of them are not the first go around) and wouldn't grant a full replacement.

After the adjuster left, Leo and his PM were still confident they could get a full replacement, but that it would take a bit more 'discussions and reviews' with the insurance company. They assured me this was very normal.

A day later, I received the insurance companies approved scope of work that I shared that with Leo and the guys at Advocate via email. A few days went by, and no communication or response from Leo. I sent a follow up text, email and called -- no response. I even sent emails to Michal, and no response.

Keep in mind, this company had other projects happening in my neighborhood, so it's not like it was out of their way.

It's now been a month or so and still no contact. Can you believe that?! I wasn't even given the common courtesy of a phone call or response to an email to explain or tell me they were walking away.

I am sure if I was able to contact Doug Cooper, the CEO & Co-Founder he'd agree that at the very least, Advocate should have communicated why they were walking away. My guess is he would not be happy with how his company's reputation is being trashed due to Leo and Michal unprofessional behavior.

This is what is wrong with Storm Chasers like Advocate Construction -- only after easy money, with minimal effort.

Horrible company, pesky aggressive storm chasers in Naperville. I didn’t bite but my neighbor did, they got a few shingles paid for and ghosted him. Turns out they aren’t even licensed public adjusters. They still keep coming to my house after I have told them to stop several times. I’m calling the police next time.

My experience with Advocate Construction in the siding replacement for my house has been seamless from start to completion. I was fortunate to have Jordan lead this siding project. He was friendly, informative, and professional in answering all my questions. His experience in working with the insurance company was invaluable. And Jordan kept me informed on the timetable for delivering supplies and the date for construction to begin. Since the original siding color was outdated, Jordan was able to provide a color palette that was similar. I was a little nervous and wondering if it would work. No worries. I was thrilled that the new color was actually better than the old one! The crew led by Valdemar did an excellent job and answered all my questions. In fact, Valdemar provided great solutions for the dryer and stove exhaust vents and for the application of the house number. I didn’t get another worker’s name… but he did an amazing job of putting the finishing edges on the siding next to the patio.

Casey was the lead contact from Advocate on our hail damage insurance claim. He did a great job and followed up on everything that we discussed and answered any and all questions concerning the scope of the work. Advocate did a great job on our roof and gutters and downspouts everything was completed according to schedule and they did a great job cleaning up after all the work was finished. I wish to clarify - I was satisfied with the end result of the roof replacement. Advocate reached out and addressed the concerns to my satisfaction. Based on these conversations I have changed my rating and corrected the name of our sales person Anthony.

Two methods were used to attach the tile along the roofline, eaves, and windows; some areas were secured with a button and some had roofing material and no button. After weeks of calls, cancelled, and no show appointments a "Manager" came to assess. He asked if I wanted the entire roof to look the same or could they "leave half of the front with the buttons because the tree covers up that part of the house anyway." As we experience Wisconsin winters I preferred the entire roof match during all seasons, not just when leaves are on the trees.
Had it not been for our sales person Anthony I would have given 0 stars. It was evident he received little support from his team.

Advocate Construction Co. did work in 2018, 2019 due to weather. In recent weeks we had a leak in the kitchen. We called Advocate they told us we only we had two years warranty. They got intouch with State Farm. State Farm saw damage and they denied a claim. So Adovacate refused to repair because small job. Never again we will use Advocate. The salesman never returned our texts to followup what would happen.
Beware homeowners the warranty is not long enough.

I was so fortunate to be approached by Advocate Construction, who found hail damage on my house that I was not even aware of. Working with my insurance company they did a magnificent job on my roof and siding I couldn’t be happier. Akeem is a should great representative for this company and will serve you well.

I would give this company zero stars if I could. Stay clear of this company. They are beyond shady. They helped us in the beginning get our insurance company to accept our hail claim. Their subcontractors that did the actual work were good but that’s it. Advocate lacks skills of transparency, communication, and courtesy. They didn’t tell us anything about what category or type of roof we would get. They never responded to emails, never told us when items were going to be delivered, explained costs, couldn’t answer simple Warranty information, and that’s just to name a few. After confirming the day of installation, my husband took the day off, lost wages and set up shop in our park because our dogs have a fear of noise. All this for them to be a no show and if it wasn’t for my husband, calling ( around noon) to ask when they were coming, he wouldn’t have known. Zero communication!! The next day they came for the installation and damaged our deck, burnt our grass, ran over our grass while leaving, our canned lights in our house were falling out of the ceiling, tar was all over, our gutters were pushed out more than normal and my husband found nails and roofing in between. When we reported all this, a guy came out, said that WE would have to find somebody to get it fixed and they would pay for the cost. My husband took it upon himself to fix all the issues and when we asked for money back, they offered us $1200 credit for our portion of the payment, but this was after they kept increasing the price via supplemental through our insurance with no explanation at all. I asked several times for a final invoice , and when they came yesterday to collect the last check from us, we found out that the price had increased again and didn’t match what the insurance provided us. Drew, their sales person had no answers as to why there was such a discrepancy and the math didn’t match our insurance documents. He seemed in a hurry with hopes we wouldn’t catch it, in my opinion. We asked for warranty information and that was not provided and Drew couldn’t answer any questions about it. How is this possible? Understand, this wasn’t explained to us upfront either. The latest issue besides the cost not matching our last insurance supplemental doc is the permit costs increased by $185, 3 months after obtaining one. This company is beyond shady and I recommend going with any other company’s that won’t hide cost, will communicate, be transparent and be able to answer questions.

Stopped 2 times in a week to talk to me about my roof. I replaced my roof, gutters siding, windows etc. less then 6 months ago and pretty much my entire house is Brand New. I have ZERO damage of any king to it. When they stopped the 1st time and told me they helped many of my neighbors I told them politely that `~m not interested and I don`t need them, They kept on pushing and not leaving and I had to tell them more then 5 times that I`m not interested over and over again.
My street has 11 houses so I we all know each other and after talking to my neighbors guess what. None of them used Advocate construction.
They came again today and it was the same exact person from last week and someone else. And pretty much the same happened again- they refuse to accept that I`m not interested ( I almost called the police to come and ask them to leave)
Both times I also asked to please remove my address from their list and to never come to my house again and they were sarcastic about it. If they come again I will call the police on them.
All this companies claim they will do the work free and your insurance will pay but I know for a fact that there is nothing free. They will bill your insurance $35,000 for a $15,000 roof job and then your insurance will cancel on you or will increase a lot and you other insurances will reject you due to the claim you have on your account.
Remember- no one works for free in this world. Don`t let them scam you. call a normal contractor and he can give you a normal quote and also work with your insurance if you need too.

Leaky roof and low quality of work. Delay after to delay and they took no accountability for the leaks on what was supposed to be new roof. Now I have seen some of their responses on reviews and I can see that they have a pattern of simply not caring about their customers or their quality of work. We had to hire another roofer to come fix the mistakes they made. Their customer service simply stinks. It was one of the worst experiences my family had to go through.

Our experience was wonderful with Advocate Construction. Our contractor Jake kept us informed throughout the process and was very easy to work with. The siding and gutter workers were in constant communication asking for our approval on important decisions and siding and gutters look amazing! Thank you for the work !

We worked with Andrew Countryman at Advocate Construction to replace the roof, siding and gutters about a year ago. Andrew was professional, followed up and assisted us in resolving any issue that arose until the project was completed. Dropped my review down to 2 stars because of issues I've had since the roof was done now. There was siding damaged during installation that was Brushed off as "well just go after insurance for the siding complete re do so it'll be replaced." Here we are years later and we were not able to get the insurance to approve. So i'm left with over five areas that are damaged and nothing to show for it. I'm having big leaks throughout the house. After rain. The final and most impressive issue that I've had is a piece of siding issue. Just below the roof line (they replaced) a piece came off 2 years ago, eventually pulling an 8 foot piece of metal down. I begged them to come look at it. Willing to pay out-of-pocket and they ended up sending a lawyer and a written statement, saying that they're not liable for anything when all I was looking for was to pay someone to actually replace it. Help. Only help. And I wasn't after free work.They took it the wrong and demanded i sign papers with their lawyer. Ridiculous and HORRIBLE customer service. Buyer beware.

I want to retract all the positive things I previously said about this company. A year after they completed work for me, my mother needed a new roof due to hail damage. Her experience with them has been the complete opposite of mine. It's been over a year of dealing with them and the insurance company. Even after her insurance claim was approved in November of last year, they've been giving her the runaround. She has tried multiple times to contact them, but they haven't returned any of her calls. They took her insurance check to start the process and then disappeared. I feel terrible that my recommendation has caused my mother so much stress. I advise against dealing with this company. They took advantage of an elderly woman and have left her with a roof that still needs repair and a loss of close to $1500! This company should be ashamed of treating people this way. Stay away from them!
