Purchased a Stihl battery-powered pruner here after long in-store deliberation. There were many Ace Hardware folks around, but I was never offered any help. The clerk handled my purchase without so much as a smile or a query about my project. The Stihl appliance is garbage. I wound up putting it away halfway through my project and using other tools instead. I called Ace about these issues10 days after my purchase, but they refused to help stating that I missed the 7 day window for returns. Both Lowes and Home Depot offer 30 day returns. Stihl, a brand that Lowes and Home Depot refuse to carry, will not even return my phone calls. Ace sells poor quality products and will not stand by them.

I recently shopped the Ace Hardware store on Monticello Avenue to do quite a bit of shopping. I was a bit nervous about finding items that I would usually shop at for at Walmart. However, everything was so organized that I found my items quicker than I would've at either Walmart in town. Not to mention the service is top notch that you receive here. Aaron helped me a few times, and was pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient. The staff at the front are always kind, friendly and patient as well.

I'm always surprised when I discover that I don't need to travel further to one of the big box stores. Although Ace has the feel of a small town hardware store, I'm consistently surprised at how deep the inventory is.

I placed an order online for pick up that said that my order would be ready for pick up in 15 minutes. I arrived at the store 40 minutes after i placed my order and they told me that they don’t have the product I ordered in stock. I wasted
an hour driving for my order that wasn’t even in stock. They need to fix their online order system so that people don’t waste their time

Jose at the small engine department is the MAN. With a substantial amount of snow in the forecast, we waited until the literal last minute to bring our snowblower that hadn't run in 10+ years online. First visit was to get bowl seals as they had turned to dust. Once we had those installed, we realized that the bowl itself had a pinhole corroded through bottom. Called the store after and got ahold of Jose, who not only had the part in stock but told me to come in and pick it up despite the counter being closed for the day. He really saved the day, can't say enough about the great service.

This is my go-to place for small engine, keys, and hardware. If they don't have you you won't find it at a brick and mortar store anywhere else in Hampton Roads.

The only reason this even gets 2 stars is because they do have a lot to choose from. Unfortunately when you take something to the register that has a 25% off sticker on it and they don't want to honor that, puts a bad taste in my mouth. "Sorry that expired and I guess no one took the sticker off" Yeah no kidding. No attempt to even try and make me happy. Won't be returning to this store

I love ACE. It's a step back in time, the way businesses used to be: knowledgeable and pleasant employees willing to help, a great selection of hardware goods, and always a fun display of home and garden decorations for each season. It has a small town, personal feel you don't get from the larger chains. And their pricing is quite reasonable. All that's missing are the rocking chairs and pickle barrel! Thanks ACE!!!

Great hardware store in Williamsburg. The staff was really helpful with my questions, they gladly gave me a nice discount and with every purchase you are offered the chance to give to a local charity. I love their hometown approach and would choose to return there over the larger home improvement stores.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the customer service I experienced at this location. I ordered a key fob for my push start car. I was obviously unable to bring my vehicle to the location and Mr. Ron came to my home to help me. Above and beyond! Thank you! I am a customer for life and telling everyone about my experience. I’ve been used to shopping at the John Tyler base over 30 years and was always very satisfied there. This week I found a need to go into the Monticello store and there was a drastic difference. I passed by 4 to 5 employees, looking for someone to ask for help everybody turned around and walked in another direction 74 years old and had to get a stepladder and climb up to get something down from a top shelf for myself when one employee came by he just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and didn’t offered to help. I spoke to the store manager and got this very casual while we try to be helpful sorry ma’am answer. The young man at the cash register asked me if I had everything I needed and I forgot one thing he called over his radio to ask for specific person to help and after several minutes of waiting, I said well you’re not being treated any differently than I have . I left the store without the last item I needed and don’t intend to ever go back there. Actually I don’t know why I put two stores down there. That was way too much.

I went into the Ace Hardware Store today and a cashier by the name of Brandy Hadden got notoriously rude with me. She not only got rude with me once but twice.When I told her that I am going to report her to the manager,Brandy replied "do you want my full name". The customer behind me then said to Brandy that was not called for. So, I can only assume that this store allows Brandy to constantly get rude to people. I will not be shopping there again because it obvious that the store manager let her get away with this type of behavior. I will say that the store manager was very polite to me and her name was Robin.

Typically my go-to local hardware spot with a good selection, but a recent interaction with one of their staff was anything but pleasant.
I had called asking about insecticidal UV and told that it was something they had in stock. Upon arrival at the store it turned out to be just a basic blacklight. A basic miscommunication is fine, but the employee proceeding to mock me when I said that it was different than what I had asked about over the phone to one of their coworkers is completely inappropriate.
I will still likely continue to shop here but will definitely avoid that employee in the future for their unprofessionalism.

This store is so awesome to have right in the center of town. I bought something for home repairs and wasn’t sure if it was the right size. I was told to just save the receipt and I could return it if it didn’t fit. It didn’t work and I brought it back even though I had opened the package they let me return it for a refund the same day which was nice. The staff are always willing to assist and answer your questions to help you find exactly what you need. I am thankful to have this store only a five minute drive away from home. They also open pretty early. I went in at 8:10 am and they were open so that was helpful too for a busy customer. They have a little bit of everything in this store from paints to snacks. They even have cards and some signs. I love that the staff all seems knowledgeable about home repairs and maintenance issues and all want to help their customers do what they can on their own. They even have a screen repair service. My son had put a hole in one of our window screens and they let you bring screens to them and they will repair them on site which was awesome to me.

This is my go-to store for anything home-or-garden-related. The employees are very friendly, check out is quick and efficient. I always find what I need. Plus the store is easy to access. I walk with a cane and there is no curb to step up to get entry.

The in store service is top notch, however the repair service leaves more than a lot to be desired. Last year I was looking for parts for my Stihl trimmer, they were on backorder, I waited 2 months and finally went on line and had the Stihl parts in 2 days, after another 2 months I got a call the parts were at Ace. I had my mowers picked up for service and waited at least 3 months, when I inquired as to their status, I was informed they were waiting for an air filter for a month, I went on line and delivered it to them in 2 days. I had my snow blower picked up before Christmas, the beginning of February I was told I was next in line for service. March 4, I was told they were awaiting a carburetor. If customer service is their goal, then they should have more than one supplier!!!

Donna and Rich were amazing! We came in with a bag of loose screws and bolts needing more and Rich helped us find each one of them. I think 5 people asked if we needed any help while we were there. One of the best of many Ace Hardware Stores that I have traded at. Every employee is always ready to give their best at all times. My last visit introduced me to Ed, who I believe was a manager. Hie customer service skills while manning the “Helpful Hut” were the best. He took care of a key situation with my wife’s “Yankee” house keys. Did an amazing job!

Lots of inventory to choose from, but it always seems difficult to find employees to help anyone easily and quickly find what they are looking for. It took me 20 minutes to find the 3-4 things I was looking for. This is something that needs improvement in order to boost their rating.

I wanted to specifically thank both gentlemen who work in the key department! After numerous failed attempts to get a key for one of our customers for his vehicle (not from ACE) I finally decided to go the route to order a blank key and then get it cut at ACE. I was extremely nervous because I had the customers only original key and was worried something could happen to it during the process to get the key cut. I was also worried that the key would be cut wrong (they had to use the manual key cutter and not the new one) and then we would be back to step one! Not only were both men very helpful but the key was cut to perfection! The customer was extremely happy which in turn made me really happy! Thanks so much for all your help. I WILL be coming back to get further products from your store, especially if we need another key made!

As a long-time customer of this store, I have always appreciated their commitment to providing excellent service and maintaining a welcoming environment. However, my recent encounter with one of the cash register employees has left me disappointed.

Upon reaching the register, I provided the employee with my phone number as part of the transaction process. To my dismay, he began attempting to pronounce my last name but ended up completely butchering it. Instead of acknowledging his mistake and apologizing, he chose to make a mockery of my name. He laughed at me and continued to ridicule my name, making it abundantly clear that he found it amusing and too different.

This behavior deeply left me feeling marginalized and disrespected. It is unacceptable for an employee to turn someone's name into a joke simply because they are unable to pronounce it correctly. I firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their background or name, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.

In that moment, I felt compelled to address the issue with the employee. I firmly interrupted him and expressed my deep displeasure, explaining that his actions were not only extremely rude but also reflected a lack of professionalism. Laughing at someone's name and making them feel different or "othered" is a form of discrimination, which goes against the principles of inclusivity.

I sincerely hope that the management takes this matter seriously and recognizes the gravity of the situation. It is imperative that they address the behavior of this employee and take appropriate action, ensuring that incidents like these do not happen again in the future. Such disrespectful conduct undermines the positive experience that customers expect from a store they have come to trust.

In conclusion, while this store has previously been one of my favorites, the recent incident has raised concerns about their policies and practices. It is disappointing to recognize that they have an employee who has been identified as a liability to the organization, as they do not appear to champion diversity and inclusion effectively. I hope the management takes immediate action to address this issue and reinforces their commitment to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all customers. As a loyal customer, I believe it is essential for businesses /organization to uphold their principles and ensure that their policies are consistently enforced to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere for everyone.

An excellent location for this Ace Hardware on Monticello Ave near Richmond Rd. Helpful assistance is easy to come by. Prices are very reasonable considering they have nowhere near the buying power and volume of the big boxers.

Highly recommend you check out the plumbing, paint and gardening depts in particular are standouts. Benjamin Moore paints are a featured brand in the paint department with staff available for custom color matches.

A full line of Big Green Eggs, Weber grills, and accessories top off their offerings. Plenty of free convenient parking.
