I had both my kitchen (along with the entire first floor) and bathroom remodeled. My space was transformed into rooms that I absolutely love! The design process was flawless, and Stacey listened to my thoughts and paid attention to what I liked throughout the entire process. I ended up with fabulous spaces that I'm so happy to use and to share with my friends and family. The workers were courteous and conscientious and cleaned up at the end of each work day. Their expert workmanship showed in the end with the final product. I still marvel at my new, amazing spaces and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Last year, we hired another contractor to complete a large kitchen addition in our home. This contractor worked with Slate to order the kitchen cabinets, given Slate’s expertise with kitchen cabinets and their close relationship with a custom cabinet maker in NC. Although we did not use Slate for the kitchen remodel itself, we wanted to praise Slate employee Maria for her extremely helpful and professional work in helping us secure our kitchen cabinets.

We met with Maria several times to go over the cabinet ordering options that she had available, knowing that we wanted a particular shade of wood and style of cabinets for our mid-century inspired kitchen. Slate’s partnership with Metropolitan cabinets allowed us to find the *perfect* cabinets to match our vision and we are STILL drooling over the final result!!

I can’t tell you how many times we went back to Maria asking for modifications to the layout to try and fit our budget while still giving us the features we wanted. Every time we communicated, Maria was so patient and professional, even though I’m sure we drove her crazy. She gave us so much of her time and effort, even though Slate wasn’t actually doing the remodel — they were just procuring the cabinets for us.

The cabinets we got through Slate are so beautiful, functional, and solid. I cannot express how happy we are with the layout, the features, the finish, and the interiors/exteriors of each cabinet. They are truly a dream come true.

We are exceedingly happy with results of our kitchen upgrade done by Slate. The design process was very collaborative with creative suggestions to the final design being right on point, enhancing the final results. The schedule of work was a bit longer than we expected but there was substantial activity most days with the job being completed within a week of original schedule. The crew did a good job keeping the construction area clean and organized, minimizing disruption to our use of other parts of the home. The number of progress payments (10) were a bit overwhelming with payment requests sometimes coming on back to back days. Could get confusing as to what was paid and what was outstanding. We suggested they pare back the number and space them out a little more. The online collaboration website worked well and kept us informed of upcoming activities. Finally and most importantly, the entire Slate team was very professional. Their crews worked very hard, quite pleasant and extremely courteous. We give Slate high marks and recommend them for your next major home renovation.

The Slate team did a great job putting our kitchen/dining/living room/mudroom renovation vision into reality. Stacey on the design team listened and delivered on everything we asked for, and all her suggestions were spot on. The portal was key in facilitating communications and file sharing. Everyone on the team was very professional and thorough.

We completed a live-in-during extensive renovation of our entire main floor including a new kitchen and bathroom, refinishing all floors, and redoing our HVAC system with Slate in 2023. Most importantly, everything was done to the highest quality, on budget and mostly on time* (we were 3 weeks ahead of schedule, then had an issue set us back, but still finished close within the original scope). No renovation is going to be perfect or without its hiccups, but what sets great companies apart are how they tackle these problems and treat their clients during the process. We have proudly referred family and friends to Slate and are happy we used them for our project! Any unforseen issues we encountered were dealt with in a timely manner, and we were given ample opportunities to communicate in person, on the CoConstruct app, or over email with the entire team throughout the project. There was work being done nearly every day and many things were strategically timed and overlapped to minimize our time being disrupted. There were times things were redone because they didn't originally meet Slate's high standard of quality. The team went over every inch with a fine tune comb and refused to leave a single wall in less than perfect condition, as if it was their house they would be living in forever. Shoutout to Jacob, our project manager who was the most reliable, hardworking, and personable person to work with during a pretty stressful time! He looked after us and got to know our entire family while answering all our questions, brainstorming with us, and making sure we had the best possible experience. Few people really make a lifelong impression on you in the way he did, and I can't imagine ever putting our home in someone else's hands after working with him! Other incredible workers are Pablo who made an incredible tile backsplash for us and Nacho who was the catch-all genius who can tackle anything. We now have a gorgeous home that we enjoy every single day! Thank you Slate!

We had a basement renovation along with adding an a bathroom in the basement of our home. The team was great to work with from the beginning. Adam and Jessica were patient and kind explaining everything to us and never pushing. We didn't feel pressured to work with them, which made us want to work with them even more! Stacey gave us so many choices when it came to the design. We ended up with something absolutely gorgeous! And Jacob was great at managing the onsite coordination. He kept us in the loop constantly, was responsive to our questions, and was nothing but patient when we asked for literally anything. The crews they brought onsite were respectful of our home, worked quickly but efficiently, and were never disruptive to our lives. The whole team was pleasant when we asked for changes (our own not from mistakes) and we felt like they all treated the renovation as they would have in their own home. We hands down recommend Slate and will absolutely use them for our next project.

We highly recommend Slate Design and remodel. All staff were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Stacey was extremely helpful for us in not only the design but also recommending products that complimented our decor style. On a scale of 1 to 10 the quality of the work and finished product was a 12! Over the 3 month renovation (it was a major project) staff kept us informed on every phase of the project and clearly took pride in their work.

We are so pleased we worked with Slate Design on our kitchen remodel. The design team worked collaboratively to help us design our dream kitchen. Every step of the way, there was clear communication. The project began with a timeline that helped set our expectations. The budget proposal was thorough and complete so besides one unexpected change order (that no one could have foreseen until walls and floors were opened) what Slate told us the project would cost, was what the project cost. The crew was onsite nearly every day, and when they weren't, the project calendar or the project manager provided explanation. The crew were all friendly and so hard working. Even with a delay caused by some additional sub flooring work, our project finished within a week of the original schedule. The team was patient with all of our questions, and design changes that came up as we saw the choices move from the design board to the actual space. The team's approach was our satisfaction was the priority. In the end, our kitchen came out just how we hoped it would - we have a space that looks beautiful and functions really well. Our family of 5 now enjoy being in the kitchen together and it is fun to host friends for dinner. It has, hands down, become my favorite room in the house.

Since this was our first experience with a remodel, we truly had no idea what to expect or how it would go but I cannot emphasize enough how MAGNIFICENT Slate Design was!! Starting from the initial contact to the design to selecting colors/tiles/counter tops/cabinets, etc to prepping for the remodel to the process itself and finally the final product. The communication was STELLAR and the staff from Slate Adam/Jessica/Shannon/our PM Jacob/Nacho/Roberto to the plumber/electrician and carpenter and anyone else I may have missed that made our project a success are truly some of the most professional, passionate, invested and talented people and for that we are most grateful. Not having done this before and not knowing what to expect and now having this experience, Slate Design has SET THE BAR for what exceptional and amazing remodeling should absolutely look like. While the final project is amazing and we absolutely love it, it is important to share how streamlined & easy the process was for us to interact with staff (I saw our project manager daily), ask questions with almost immediate responsiveness and not be completely overwhelmed or inconvenienced as our kitchen was being done. I cannot imagine doing a remodel without Slate Design-SIMPLY THE BEST!

Adam, Jessica, Shannon and the Team at Capital Design have been a joy to work with during our fairly extensive Kitchen Remodel. Our kitchen was small, did not have enough cabinet space for our needs, had a peninsula and a pony wall that sectioned off the room into tiny components, and we always seemed to have stuff on our counter tops just making our kitchen not very pleasant to be in. The owner of Capital Design (Adam Smith) came to our house (just before the pandemic), to talk to us about our needs (after meeting him at the Home and Garden Show in Chantilly) and was extremely personable both at the show, and at our home. We talked about our special dietary desires (such as 2 dishwashers, cabinets for 2 sets of dishes and the like, and what we envisioned for the kitchen of our dreams (such as a walk- in pantry, where none existed before). Adam took a slew of measurements, and a lot of pictures, talked to us about various options, and various price ranges depending on those options. In the end, Shannon used her design skills and tools to mock-up a kitchen of our dreams using our existing basic footprint, based on Adam’s recommendations. We chose solid wood nice quality cabinetry from Medallion, quartz countertops, new engineered hardwood flooring throughout the kitchen level of the house, and KitchenAid Appliances. They even worked with us to design the double oven and cabinetry at a lower height to accommodate my wife’s small stature. When all was said and done, Adam presented a contract for a fair price and we signed it.

The folks at Capital Design then prepared a comprehensive series of documents on our kitchen, with detailed measurements of appliances, cabinets, floors, electrical, plumbing, etc; of which our extremely personable and knowledgeable project manager, Alex, used to oversee the workers over the next few months. Due to Covid, they sectioned off where they were working in plastic, always wore masks, and only entered and exited thru the garage door, so as to leave us with a safe space for microwaving and eating in our living room area. Over the course of the project, when walls were removed, occasionally they found duct work in the way of planned work (like where our walk-in pantry was supposed to go). In each case, Adam came over, and he and Alex designed a work-around solution for whatever they uncovered. As time went on, we realized that we might as well go ahead and remodel our powder room while we were at it, and Shannon helped us decide the fixtures needed through Lowes, and they took care of demolition, buying, and installing all of it for a very reasonable price in a change order for adding the powder room. In addition, when they removed the walls and opened up the kitchen to our family room, it seemed a shame to have a dark brick fireplace room so prominent in the room; therefore, we talked to them about whitewashing the brick, and flanking the fireplace with built-in shelves and cabinets to compliment the beauty of the new kitchen (a fair price was negotiated, and the work was begun).

The workmen Capital Design used were extremely nice and professional and produced outstanding quality work. All this during this Covid Pandemic and the important need to hold safety at a high level to protect us and all of the workmen. All along the project, we had extensive communications with Alex and the Project Team. Adam was involved through the construction.

In the end, we paid a little more than we had originally budgeted (due to the change orders increasing the scope), but my goodness, we have an absolutely beautiful and functional kitchen, dining room, living room, powder room and family room. We will certainly use Capital Design for any future remodeling needs.

Capital Design did a full remodel of our master bathroom, as well as a variety of other smaller projects in our house. We had been putting off all this work (especially the master bath) because I remembered how much work it was when we remodeled our kitchen many years ago...but, our initial meeting Capital Design convinced me to go for it because they handled so much of the work for us - especially the shopping!

It saved me from dragging the kids around from shop to shop looking at tile, finishes, lighting fixtures, etc. Capital Design drew up design concepts, and then handled all the procurement of the materials. In addition to the master bathroom, they re-did our powder room, windows, doors, stairs and walkway with flagstone, and stair railings. The design process was fun and Jessica and Shannon did a great job matching our taste to the style of our house.

The work was installed professionally and we love the end results.

We would absolutely recommend working with Capital Design. They renovated a bathroom for us and we are thrilled with the results. Heath (our project manager) was on site twice a day and communication was prompt. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The Capital Design team and final products are amazing. Options, customer service, and great design consultations is what makes Capital Design the real deal. I've currently worked in the commercial construction industry for over 15 years and have become very used to the high standard of shop drawings and detailed product samples; Capital Design was able to provide that detailed information and much more. Capital Design provided a very professional experience and still very well priced products. We could not have gotten this great of a product at this great of a price online through big box retail cabinet companies. I have already gone back for my next home remodel and I will continue to use Capital Design for all my residential needs.

Six weeks and my entire kitchen was beautifully transformed from end to end…
After years of debating about whether or not to invest in remodeling our kitchen, my wife and I decided to take the leap. After meeting with typical contractors, interior designers offering little value and even drafting plans with Home Depot, we were very unimpressed with the lack of imagination and vision. An acquaintance recommended we try Capital Design before giving up — needless to say, it was exactly the right decision. Adam Smith (Owner) did an incredible job of listening to us and interpreting our ideas into an amazing vision that included renderings from multiple views. The project scope involved a complete rip and replace of all cabinets, new quartz counters, overhaul of all lighting, demo of walls and flooring installation. Best of all, Capital Design offered us a mobile application that provided transparency into scheduling, financials and product selection. The crew was fantastic - Heath is an amazing master craftsman with a keen sense of detail. Josh and Kory were incredibly diligent, responsive, and friendly. My wife and I are incredibly pleased with the outcomes and are loving our brand new kitchen!
