I worked with Mark and Michael at Orchid Isle Ford to buy a hard to find used Toyota 4Runner. The transaction was quick, seamless, pleasant, and honest throughout. I was referred to them by a local friend who said Mark was hardworking and trustworthy. He sure was!!! He found the exact car I wanted in 2 days, took a deposit and held it for 2 weeks until I could come in from the mainland to test drive it. The car was exactly as he described. He got all the inspection information that I asked for and the cost of the car was exactly what he presented to me in the beginning. I was pleasantly surprised that the car had many wonderful features that he didn’t even mention to me. No hard sell and no funny business. Pleased to buy a reasonable extended warranty from them as well. It was great doing business with them. Highly recommended!!!!!

I'm writing it to let anyone who goes here know that I had the worst buying experience with Mark Farias. By which i mean he was the worst communicator and most apathetic salesperson I've dealt with for any product in my life. If you decide you have to go the Kona side Ford dealer, I would suggest avoiding him. Here are the details in case you want to know what you'd be in for.

I started trying to get a Ford Maverick in April.

I didn't care what color and just called them to say, "You dont have to sell me on anything. I want a Ford. Please let me give you $30,000 to get one. " Mark is the one who answered me, and I dealt with him nearly the whole time. I was told a Maverick would be there in 5 days, so I put down $500 to see it. The date came and went. So I texted Mark and then called Mark and then called the dealership. Several days after this date and he finally responded to let me know that the date had changed to a month out. Okay, clearly, he dropped the ball, but it was just a simple mistake. He then changed the date two more times. The delivery date change was not his fault. Those delays happen obviously, and I'm not upset about the wait. We live on an island. However, none of the times that it was delayed, did he ever contact me or let me know when he knew there would be a change. I would change my schedule for the whole week to have a day off to go get this car and then have to hound him for any information and find out that everything had fallen through again. I literally started to wonder if i was being scammed.

The last time it changed, I once again had to contact him the business day before since I knew he wouldn't reach out to me if there were any problems. Once I reached out, he said the truck wouldn't be in until the afternoon. I asked him to text me and suggested 1 or 4 as a new time. I called him at 4:30 and told him I was coming to the office since I hadn't heard from him.

He called me back and told me it would be another hour and then once I was at the dealership, at 5 pm, -told me I couldn't take the truck when it got there-. But I did have to fill out all the paperwork THAT DAY if I wanted to get the deal we agreed on 10 entire weeks before. (I had borrowed a car, so i wouldn't be at the dealership with two vehicles- I'm lucky that friend just let me keep their car two more days.)

Once the paperwork was signed Mark disappeared, he got someone else (a nice guy named Rex) to do any actual work (remaining signatures, getting me the vehicle, updating me when my second key finally came in (I had asked Mark to let me know if there were any other issues before I did pick up the truck at a specific time and then he just didn't tell me that my second key wouldn't be there for several hours so it ended up being two separate trips).

Two stars, not one because Rex seemed great, though, and a guy named Mike caught shrapnel from my bad mood the day I had to sign paperwork. He was really gracious about it. Maybe try to get helped by Mike and Rex if you have to go here.

We had a wonderful experience purchasing our new Bronco. We are not on the island full time so doing things somewhat remotely. Mark couldn’t have made things more seamless and made the whole thing totally enjoyable which I think can be a rare thing when buying a car. He even synced my phone to the car for me!
Rex was also great! Super friendly team that never pressured and had answers to all my questions including places to take my grandchildren when they visit!
Couldn’t recommend them more!

Had a great experience buying here! David went out of his way to help me make the best choice without feeling pushy. He made sure I got to test drive vehicles they didn't even have on their lot so that I could make an informed decision. And the actual process of buying was one of the best I've had. Very streamlined and overall wonderful team that works well together. I was surprised when they handed me the keys and said congratulations. I was fully prepared for it to take so much longer. I went from a Tesla to a Broncho because I was tired of the lack of service Tesla provides on our island. We came in with a messed up caliper on the right side of our 2011 Ford Escape. They replaced the caliper then put the brake pad back on BACKWARDS. This ended up wrecking the rotor on that side. Before that, they tried to upsell us on getting almost the entire brake system replaced which would have been $1000 in labor fees plus another $1000 in parts. Every time we asked about the specific issues with the brake system and what exactly we needed to replace, the story changed and they added more "issues" on. Eventually we ended up getting a second opinion, which found that these guys messed up the front rotor by putting the brake pad on backwards, and everything else they had "recommended" us to replace was actually perfectly fine and did not need to be replaced. If you go here, which I don't recommend, be very skeptical.

Update: That caliper they replaced? Turns out they installed that wrong too, which caused my brake lines to twist, crack, and swell. Almost killed me yesterday, and just spent another grand fixing that.

Got 3 vehicles from them so far.
Been going to them since Kona bill times. Got my first car from him never a problem and it was pleasant to work with him.
2nd truck I got was a 2013 F150 Ammon mercer was the sales man and Mike was sales manager. It was pleasant to work with them. They didn't try and sell me something else, they worked with me to stay withing my budget payment plan and trying to get me financed. (That was when I was young, still had low credit score and my 1st big pirchase). Mike worked hard on trying to get me financed and he got It done. Other dealerships was trying to sell me something else claiming oh just buy this and it will build your credit and come back and buy something else. 9 years later I still have the truck. And my recent purchase was the brand new 2022 ford maverick. Ordered it online and had it delivered to the dealership. Mike and Jareb was very helpful with getting my truck, doing my paper work done before I even arrived at the dealership. The test drive I took in the brand new maverick was longer then I had to fill out the paperwork.
Always appreciate what those 2 guys do. Even after they sell you the vehicle they always there to answer any questions you have and help you out. Not like other dealers sell you the car and you are on your own. ( won't mention those guys).
Honest people that work for the honest dealership. That's why I always recommend ford to all of my friends. They never try to sell you what you don't want, always friendly and pleasant to work with and they will still treat you like family after the sale.

We bought our first truck from Jareb and our second truck from Kai about 2 years apart from each other. Both Sales Reps took the ABSOLUTE best care of us. They were patient and allowed us to test drive as many vehicles as we wanted. They gave us their honest opinions on each vehicle and were also very attentive to what we would be using the trucks for so that they could make their suggestions on the best fit for our family. Their Sales Manager, Mike, also played a role in helping us find the best fit for us. We never felt like they were just trying to make a sale but, instead, made sure we were comfortable and happy with our choices. The trucks receive heavy use, and any time we need to have them serviced, Orchid Isle comes through for us. They are trustworthy, reliable, efficient, and always do a quality job. The only reason I am giving this operation a 2 star is because of the two service writers they have. I hope upper management or owners value these two women, because without them your business would be nuclear bad. I’ve dealt with both Hilo and Kona operations and boy o boy, both are lackluster at its very best. This current experience I’ve had is:
Car needs a new transmission and dies on me at the end of October 2022. Beginning of November 2022 I have car towed to Orchid isle for transmission replace. I was told 4-6 weeks lead time to get part, then we would schedule service. I had very very little communication until I reached out multiple times and finally got a response saying my part still wasn’t ready. So now we are in March of 2023, transmission is delivered. I call to schedule service, not luck was told they would get back to me. I had to wait an additional 4 months before service was scheduled and today August 2023 I’m picking up my car. 9 months they’ve had my car. Idk who the ppl are in charge, but I really hope they know the service writers are the only two ppl at this operation that seem to care, and they are dealing with angry ppl a lot. Orchid isle parking lot looks like a boneyard for cars. Do yourself a favor and avoid this dealership at all cost on Hilo or Kona Side. Service, sales, and all around quality is piss poor, at best, at this dealership.

Deplorable display of business ethics and customer service. Attempting to communicate with their employees was a challenge that would make even the most patient person reach for their stress ball. I was left for days with out updates on my vehicles status. Only after multiple calls, voicemails, and a request for management did they begrudgingly provide some information. In terms of actual work done, I wish I could say the hassle was worth it. It is worth noting that the staff showed a complete lack of empathy or responsibility for their actions throughout this ordeal. When I voiced my concerns I was met with excuses rather than solutions. No attempt was made to rectify their mistakes; rather, they seemed intent on laying the blame anywhere but at their own feet.
The disregard, the lack of professionalism, and the sheer carelessness demonstrated by their service department should be avoided for your own sanity.

I was so happy when I was able to get an appointment in a few hours to have my battery replaced!! I couldn’t believe it. The girl who answered the phone was so nice, as were the mechanics. I was dying because I had worked ALL night and just wanted to sleep, but they were quick and I was able to get home with my truck fixed. Thank you Ford!

My dad ordered a small truck with David from Kona office, basic 22k with no options and left a deposit. When he came home an email came in with order confirmation, listing a $4500 "additional dealer markup" on top of MSRP. When my dad came back next day to see if mistake was made, dealer declined to remove markup in the amount of 1/4 of price of the vehicle. This is a disgusting practice of taking advantage of elderly kamaaina, Orchid Isle should be ashamed. Anyone who reads this - any dealer in California will gladly order you a car at or below msrp and it only costs $1500 to ship the car to HI. Avoid these rats at all costs, let them go out of business so someone decent and honorable can take over the establishment.

I love my Ford Maverick Hybrid I got from Orchid Isle Ford - Kona. Getting 41.5 mpg combined average over my first 4,000 miles driven makes me very happy. If I drive for maximum fuel economy, I'm able to average about 44 mpg driving around Kona town. Ford smashed it out of the ballpark when they made the Ford Maverick Hybrid. The small truck is easy to drive and park, and the convenience of the 4.5 foot truck bed is so much better for hauling things like green waste and trash than in an SUV, car, or minivan. Sport mode allows the truck to plow up steep roads like Kaiminani above the Kona Airport, and getting between Kona and Hilo over Saddle Road is no problem for this little truck. Because I got the hybrid, people are always commenting on how quiet it is since it often starts off driving in Electric, which means the engine isn't making any noise at all since it's driving using just the hybrid battery. Working with the GM in Kona Mike, and my sales rep, Jareb were pleasant experiences with no high pressure as often exhibited at car dealerships. Financing through Ford was a breeze as well.

Absolutely the worst service!! They sold my son a used 2012 Nissan Frontier, with all the gap coverage and extras. The truck has now been in their repair shop for 3 months. This is not the first time. The first time they gave a loaner vehicle. Not now. They are under new management now. I am disgusted at the lack of service or even caring about their customers.
They should not be selling used vehicles they don’t know how to work on.
Sensor reading was catalytic converter issue. Replace it already!

We have to separate this into two completely different reviews: 5 stars for the new car buying experience, but 1 star for their service department. The service was so bad, this brings it down to a 2-star overall review.
Service Department: Wow, are they horribly screwed up here. They don't get back to you when they say they will, they don't answer the phone most of the time (I had so stop in there a few times just to talk to someone live), and they have horribly long lead times for appointments. Then they called me after the long lead time and said they had people out and moved my appointment back another month. And then, when I brought it in, they wanted to keep it for several days. And then, they said they could only do about half of the service jobs I had scheduled because their main mechanic was on vacation, and wanted to keep it another week (which would have been a total of 12 days without my truck). When I said I couldn't do that and asked for another appointment, there was a 7-week lead time and then only two slots open, so if those two slots weren't convenient, you'd have to wait about 10 weeks. I started the appointment process in August, and ended up only getting 1/2 the work done on Oct 30. Crazy. And it gets even worse regarding charges. The only non-warranty work they did was an oil change and put in a new air filter. When I went to pay, they wanted over $300!! I said that they had quoted me less than $100 for the oil change and $30 for the air filter. They reworked it and got it down to just under $200, but that was with overcharging me a little on the oil change, but totally overcharging me on the air filter. They charged $50 to install it (which must have taken all of 5 minutes). These people are highway robbers with their pricing and their service is the worst I've seen in my 45 years of driving. I will NEVER go here again for any service.
New Car Buying Process:
I've only bought four brand new cars in my life, but this was by far the most pleasant experience ever. These people treat you with total respect and don't try to hard sell any additional services. A really easy and gracious experience. I'd recommend anyone to try them out for buying a car or truck (but definitely get your service done elsewhere).

Worst possible service I could ever get from a service center they never call you back or ever update you on your parts/status of car. you could be forever waiting for your parts unless you call yourself every single day. And do their own job. They Will “fix “parts but then immediately still have issues with the same exact part. Did a diagnosis 2 1/2 weeks ago now they’re asking to do another one since their techs are brain dead and can’t figure out how to change a radio correctly. Mind you I waited over seven hours in a single day Just for them to tell me what I told them when I dropped the car off

Patient, Honest and Upfront. These are the words I would use to describe my experience with Orchid Isle Ford "Kona". I will do one better and say that this experience was due in no small part because of our sales representative David. I work in New York and am constantly dealing with a competitive environment, I expected a similar experience car shopping. However I was happily mistaken, and received individualized assistance as well upfront honesty regarding pricing and inventory. This car buying experience was second to none, all thanks to David. Where should I start........overall FANTASTIC team. Just ordered my third car purchase from Kristian. What was to be a one time used car purchase has turned into two used cars and one pre-order for a Bronco Sport. Total of 3 cars in less than one month. Kristian is excellent. Above and beyond!!!. I will only buy from him and Orchid Ford in Hilo. Kristian and his team listened and delivered, and always had my best interest in mind. New to Hawaii, they were helpful in ensuring my purchases met my needs. Kristian even went as far as taking care of my car insurance needs with a State Farm agent he works with saying me 50% of what my present car insurance quoted me. Their financing manager (Jaime) took extra care in ensuring I was protected with additional coverage on one of the used cars to offset any fees that could be incurred as we are in a low used car inventory and we are paying above market price. WOW, I would not have thought of that!. Donovan/manager took the time to call over the phone to guarantee my pre order for the Bronco Sport and after I told him I could not come in person to sign the documents (I am in Kailua), he ensured he would be available at their Kona location and bring the paperwork to me. Very impressed at the level of customer service. Orchid Ford excels in Customer Service. Thumbs UP!!!. Mahalo.

Very shady business practices! Be very careful when dealing with this dealership. On 11/2/20 i bought a used Tacoma from this dealership, i took it for a test drive and carefully looked over everything. After purchasing the truck i drove it home and the next day the TPMS sensor light came on. No big deal i owned several Tacomas and was familiar with the sensor light. I checked the air pressure in all the tires (which were all good) and proceeded to reset the sensor. No luck the light stayed on. I contacted Peter H and asked if there was something i should know as to why the sensor light was on. He told me he would check. When he got back to me he informed me that the truck DID NOT have TPMS sensors at all! I asked him why the sensor light was off when i test drove the truck, he made various excuses but none to be true. The sensor light was intentionally turned off by the dealership to deceive potential buyers . When i confronted him with the facts, Peter proceeded to make all the arrangements to have the sensors installed at no cost to me, end of that shady situation. Next shady situation was the safety check was expiring at the end of November which i was aware of but not a big deal, not yet at least. As the weeks went by i first contacted Peter mid November to check on the status of my registration transfer so i could schedule a safety check. He assured me it was taken to DMV and informed me that DMV is backed up due to covid 19 which i could understand. I waited until the last week of November and drove to the dealer to speak with Peter. He again informed me that DMV is backed up and basically its their fault i dont have my registration. Thinking its logical i left and just waited. 2 more weeks go by and i still dont have my registration and now i legally cannot operate the truck . I contact DMV directly and they informed me that they were processing mail in transfers postmarked November 28th so basically they were only a week and a half behind. I call the title clerk for Orchid Isle Ford and i never got a return call. A few days later after trying to contact Peter he texts me that i need to get a failed safety to transfer the registrstion because they didnt even mail it in! Terrible service, shady business practices End result is after numerous back and forth conversations with the President of the company they agreed to give me all my money back and take the truck back. Mind you they never apologized for their mistakes or admitted any shady practices that was clearly done at their dealership. I will never do business with them again and i want to warn anyone who plans on doing business there to be careful and read the reviews

Awesome Team working there. I had to take my F150 in due to an excruciating grinding noise upon acceleration. The Service Dept. representative (Maka) was able to diagnose the problem when I arrived, and she was Right!! I then asked the Sales Manager about rentals and insurance and "loaners". He Took Care of It all at the office and I was out of there is just a few minutes....And Even Better-the Truck was ready in less than 24 hours....Cannot recommend this Mike and his Team any higher. If you need a car/truck you should definitely stop here and check it out.

I moved to Hawaii without knowing a soul and luckily ended up at Orchid Isle Ford to purchase a vehicle. The sales rep and manager treated me with honesty and fairness. Even though the car was sold "as is" with no warranty they did correct the problems that cropped up after the purchase promptly and without charge. I would recommend this dealership to anyone.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!
We had an appointment today at the Kailua-Kona location to have our battery junction box replaced. When we arrived we were asked if we had another key, which we do not, but were told it would be no problem to make a new one but would have to pay for it. We agreed to have the key made, but 10 minutes later one of the workers said that unfortunately they would not be able to to the work today on account that they do not have the equipment at this location to make keys, and we would have to go to the Hilo location. This appointment was made over two weeks ago! "Did you not know then that an additional key would be needed to perform this job!?!?" I asked the manager Maka. She replied “well I made a mistake. Don't you ever make mistakes? I'm dealing with all new workers here." She was very rude and extremely unprofessional. First off. I had to close down my business for a day just to come here to get this work done, so already I'm losing income. Secondly I had to drive over 100 miles in an unsafe vehicle to have a job preformed that I was guaranteed would be finished today. I returned the rental car I had been renting for the past two weeks because I was told that our car would guarantee be fixed today. Lastly I had to drive an unsafe vehicle back to Hilo (over 100 miles), rent another car, while losing income because I had to close my business for the entire day. This whole day was a HUGE inconvenience and absolute waste of my time and money!!! I am in disbelief with the horrifying service I received from Ford Dealership today. Completely inexperienced staff, extremely rude manager, not a single shred of decent costumer service to be found. I am more than disappointed with the service I received today and am requesting a full refund. I am also requesting to be reimbursed for the rental car I had to rent for the additional time. Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

HORRIBLE service they've had my vehicle since April... It's almost October. They don't keep in touch and have been giving me the run-around. Stopped responding to me and don't keep in touch. Take your vehicle anywhere else but here. Been 6 months with no car, no help with a loaner vehicle either. This place is the worst
