It seems as though after the nasty winter we just had, a lot of fly by night roofing companies emerged to feed on the less fortunate, and pocket a bunch of money while the goings good. iRoof is no exception to this conception. I was in need of a new roof due to nails coming up and sheathing loosening. After a few quotes we decided to go with iRoof as he was local, presented him self well, flashy contract, nice "warranty", and was very attentive to my concerns. We also talked about replacing 3 rafters that had bowed, and was very adamant about wanting replaced.
We entered into contract and was told I'd be informed in the next few days what day the work would be performed. That was a friday. Come the next monday on my way out the door for work, I notice a delivery of shingles coming down my drive way. Undenounced to me, I was surprised, and had not prepped my property for the job. Steve first said he had emailed me and confirmed the date, but after much scouring through my emails, changed his story to he was thinking of another job. Now that 6+ non english speaking workers with all the equipment are sitting in my driveway; its kinda hard to say no. Prepped the property and was assured things would be taken care of, so I went to work.
I was surprised to hear that in 6 hours, the entire roof was repaired and reshingled. And at first, I was very impressed by how fast the job was done and the exterior look of things. But my excitement was short lived when I discovered all of the shotty workmanship that had gone on underneath. When sheathing was pulled up for replacement, a couple rafters where broken and split in multiple places. Even going as far as to taking the broken pieces and nailing them back to the the side of the rafter (hack status - expert), kicked out sheet rock from between the garage and house, missing the rafters completely when nailing sheathing, and my favorite hack that was made - sawsall the 3 rafters I wanted replaced to even them out (mind you Steve and I had a prior discussion about how 2x6 rafters were lack luster to begin with). All this along with cutting rig vents right over my show car. Knowing it was in there as the garage door was open. I had no idea they were even going to do that or it would have been as far away from my house as humanly possible.
I emailed Steve with my concerns and was rest assured that they would be addressed. Thats when I found out he wasnt even there for most of the job, and fed me silly lies about buying 3 rafters, not knowing where they went to, and using his sub contractors as scapegoats for his fish tale. Steve did come to "fix" all the issues. I was socked by the quality, and knowledge of his job and repair. Its clearly obvious that he knows nothing about carpentry but just enough to lay shingles in a straight line and go hog wild with construction screws. He left during one of his "repairs" with out saying anything, and I was left with a bunch of scabbed pieces of wood on the rafters doing absolutely nothing, and now a big hump in the roof where his guy pushed the sheathing off the rafter.
At that point I was all done with any more hack jobs. Until we got our first big rain storm, and the chimney leaked like a sieve at all 4 corners with a sweet stream of water flodding my garage. I agree, I might have had some nice choice words to say, but I had had enough. 3+ weeks later all I have on my roof as a repair is a tarp, and a boat load of excuses.
If you're looking to have nothing more than some shingles installed in a straight line; iRoof could certainly get the job done. But thats where his limitations lay. If you have structural issues, cosmetic flaws, and god forbid a chimney to flash; look elsewhere. 6 hours may seem impressive to reroof a house, but think of all those corners cut to get there. If anyone is interested in some pictures of the work done, Ive got plenty of examples. Feel free to email me. I really dont have a lot of time to write stupid reviews, but I work waaaay to hard for my money to not get what I paid for.
