I would never recommend this company to anyone!!! In April of 2009 I had a tree fall through the back part of my home. My insurance company USAA gave me the option of using one of their contractors so I would not have to gather estimates on my own. Howard Construction came out to my house, they seemed very kind and concerned. They were only going to patch the roof but finally agreed with me that a total replacement was needed. My contract, the second building permit they pulled and the Notice of Commencement they filed all said Replace Roof. I thought I got a complete roof replacement.
Fast forward to May 2025. After a heavy rain storm I started seeing water stains in the ceiling of my family room. I had a roofer come out to see if it could be repaired since I thought I still had 4 or 5 years of life left in my roof. He proceeds to tell me that my roof was only patched in 2009 not replaced. I had two other roofing companies come out to confirm this is true. Not only did they not replace my roof in 2009 but the work that they did was not good. I now have to get a new roof and I have to figure out where the money is going to come from. It has caused me much distress and heartache that a company that I did not choose (my insurance company did) would not do the work agreed upon. I will make it my mission to be sure as many people know about this and that this company should not be in business.

After working with Don Towery for the past several months on the repair of our home, I am writing this review to give Howard Construction 5 stars. Our home was damaged during Hurricane Idalia back in August 2023. After dealing with a different contractor for 15 months that did shoddy work, Don with Howard Construction was assigned to our case in November 2024. At that time, I was very untrusting due to everything we had been through but Don earned our trust. Don was very kind, did what he said, was very transparent and honest, explained everything, uncovered the shoddy mistakes of the previous contractor, and made things right. Once we got past the engineering needed to correct the work of the previous contractor, the progress of the repairs went quickly. Don went above and beyond, ...always working on our behalf. We are back in our home and are very thankful Don was assigned to our claim .

We have needed a general contractor twice in the last three years and chose to use Howard Construction at the recommendation of a friend who had also used them several times. They redid both our kitchen and bathroom. Both times we worked with Mike Galaska as our project manager. He did an outstanding job of bringing our vision to life. He is honest, straight forward, organized, communicates well, and is a great listener! All very important and rare traits these days. We especially liked that he was not afraid to brainstorm with us. He, his trade crews, and Howard Construction were all a pleasure to work with both times. We highly recommend them every chance we get and would choose to work with them again if the need arises.

We hired Howard Construction after having a house fire in September 2022. They did a fantastic job of repairing the house and completing changes in the house during the process. Working with Mike Galaska was also great. He notified me when I needed to make decisions during the process. He was provided helpful suggestions. The home is actually better than it was before the fire. Mike was also responsive when we identified a few areas that still needed to be touched up after we moved in.

After a small fire in our home we we presented with Howard Construction in partnership with Herring Cleaning. We were not offered much of a choice. They appeared to have some kind of partnership with our insurance company. They all talked a great sales pitch and swooped in so fast. But once workers started showing up I was questioning their qualifications to myself.
Long story and 1 year later the new "high quality water resistant flooring" they put in is literally coming up and falling apart. I contacted Howard Construction and surprisingly he came out right away. However right from the start he just started insinuating the floor issues are our fault. He provided one faulty hypothesis after another as to why it was happening "moisture". Because clearly we made our home an indoor pond for the last year. (Sarcasm). I'm sorry under no circumstances should a high quality water resistant flooring be coming up after just 1 year. Believe me we did not turn our home into a pond...but that is the kind of ludicrous tale he's telling. Contact your insurance he says. Hmmm they arent even going to listen to me because of this unprofessional under the table partnership they got going on. Very sad after they collected thousands from insurance to put in this flooring, 1 year later we are going to have to put in a whole new one ourselves. Don't use Howard Construction.

After experiencing a house fire in February, we chose Howard Construction to take on the construction of our home. First of all, they were highly recommended by everyone we spoke to and they proved their work from the first time we met with them. Mike Galaska managed our project and he was so wonderful to work with. He was very professional, honest, prompt, and extremely easy to communicate with. All of the people who worked with him were compassionate, hardworking, and did an excellent job. We are forever grateful for entrusting them to put our house back together even better than it was before!

My home was flooded from Hurricane Ian in September of 2022, and my insurance company messed around and switched adjusters (7 of them) until I finally got one that started working for me in January 2023.They assigned Howard Construction to rebuild my home. I had to have 4 feet of every wall taken down due to mold and every outside door replaced. Howard Construction was there to help. Mike Galaska, the project manager, was right there with me from the start. He would explain everything that he proposed and listened to me if I had any suggestions and would not proceed unless he got my ok. I made changes and he would give me his professional advice if it was a doable change or not. His crew of many talented people worked with me and called or texted me with any unforseen problems that arose. Mike would always let me know when anyone from his team was going to be at my house. I now have my home back and it's so beautiful and I love it. I would 100% recommend Mike Galaska from Howard Construction if you ever need to have any type of construction, be it a rebuild, remodel or new build for your home. Thank you so very much, Mike.

EDITED TO ADD: When Mike Galaska (project manager) saw this review, he called and asked that it be taken down.

I have never run into a company that behaved more incompetently and produced such a subpar product while overcharging us and not building things up to code.

Not only did we pay them for a rebuild after a fire—we only got what was essentially a gut remodel—but they charged us more than the house cost to do so. They used up every last bit of the allotted insurance money that entitled us to rebuild the house from the ground up minus the foundation.

Some BUT NOT ALL of the grievances.
-They pretended to not be able to find blueprints (for 4 months!!!) for the house so that they could use a engineer to avoid certain rules and regulations (most specifically, I’m guessing the first few inspections that they definitely weren’t going to pass).
-They wanted to leave in the waterlogged and burnt framing until I demanded otherwise and then when they put a new frame in—
-they didn’t even mitre the edges of the framing or the weight bearing roof trusses
-It appears there was never use of a nail gun and nails were hammered an bent over halfways
-They did not properly/fully insulate the house
-they cut up pre-fabricated trusses or provide verification from the engineer, per requirement, that he authorized that
-they did not build the roof up to code (as verified by a city inspector I called out) but snuck on the shingles before inspection
-they did not level the floor so much that certain furniture can’t be placed against walls
-They did not build even the interior walls 90° straight up causing numerous issues
-they applied for further funding for the speaker system that they knew we did not want and we did not receive but they received the money from the insurance company and had I not noticed they would’ve just kept that (and didn’t even fully refund us for it in the end)
-They left a ridiculous amount of construction materials in the yard, refused to take responsibility for it and submitted to the insurance for an additional summary so that insurance would pay for it.
-They left the lintel off the garage header enough so that it was sagging in the middle and we had to fight to get them to put it back in, while they acted as if they couldn’t see the gigantic dip in the center of the garage frame.
-they lied every time a question was asked, and if they weren’t watched and things didn’t get noticed, they were happy to do a job I could’ve done better myself. They purposely did work when no one was looking even though they were requested to let us know every time they would be working.
-I could not get verifiable information from Don Towery about the business as he pretended there was no silent partner, Howard Cummins, who is the sole proprietor of the LLC, and he would not provide me with any documentation like a drivers license and was incredibly rude when I requested one.
-They are not BBB accredited and as far as I can tell only get jobs through State Farm because no person paying out of their pocket would ever accept a job like this.
-their workers do not hold the right certifications for the jobs they do.
-The project manager Mike was deceitful and arrogant and condescending. he eventually would not even communicate with me, and bullied my mother continuously, blaming both of us for his ineptitude.
-They change business structure and registered agent (to a probably morally-flexible business attorney) every three years, making information hard to trace and allowing for little to know accountability
-They have an intermingled relationship with Herring Cleaning, have had the same registered agents, owners and work ethic
-Dating back to 1993, there is a troubling pattern of shady real estate transactions, filing liens on customers, and sealed documents- Don Towery, Howard Cummins, Regina Mizell (of Herring) and Howard Construction Inc and then LLC

If State Farm recommends them, DO NOT BITE.

If their work ethic is anything like how one of their employees drives, I would stay away. A Howard Construction LLC maroon Ford pickup truck with the plate number JDM F70 sped past me (going about 10 mph over the speed limit) on Broward Rd heading towards Lem Turner Rd on Sunday. The driver also passed me in a non-passing lane. If their driving is without self-control or discipline, I would think their work would be as equally sloppy and unprofessional.

Howard Construction's quality of work is horrible. They are a do the bare minimum kind of organization, but their prices make you assume they will produce good work. Don't be fooled. The unpainted wood and crunched vent flashing in the photos were their idea of repairs. They made no mention of the holes right next to there unfinished work either. Photos attached

I called because I want to remodel my kitchen and bathroom based off of the reviews I read. The girl that answered never seemed concerned about my want because she told me they have so many insurance jobs that she didn't know when I could get on the schedule. I guess they only want those jobs versus honest working people paying cash. It's great not having to want work.

If you are thinking of doing a bathroom remodel (or any remodel), I highly recommend Howard Construction! They do amazing work...very effecient, communicate wonderfully through the process and they clean when they are done. I couldn't be more pleased with our bathroom! Thank you Howard Construction and Clint Mizell!
Job well done!

We have recenty purchased a home that was rebuilt, post-fire by howard construction. On first look, the home is beautifully done. But we´ve been here for a month and have run into some trouble, a major plumbing issue. Trouble began even before we put in our offer, we had to pause the sale of the home because a "piece of foam" from construction,(what we were told) blocked a pipe and flooded some of the house. That was taken care of, so we thought. Now we are dealing with a clog somewhere in the main pipe. If someone showers for just a few minutes, the shower, the toilet everything starts backing up. Its been getting progressively worse. We called howard construction and reported the problem, they never called back. Of course, its not their problem now. However this is a serious issue and i dont think it is a coincidence that the home flooded during purchase and now everything is backing up. There are other things such as rippled ceilings, which looks like possible moisture damage, they forgot to cut out a hole for washer drain, but those are "minor" in comparison to the whole plumbing issue. Again the look is nice (hence the 2 stars) but when you do not have a working plumbing system, how can you really say "this is a wroking home". Huge health hazzard is what it is. I beat myself up that right before the purchase i didnt run the shower for several more minutes.

I can not rate their services at this time, however, their driver doesn't pay attention when behind the wheel. While sitting in the parking lot at Home Depot Regency, we were putting water in the radiator and the lady pulled in behind us hitting our vehicle & shoving it forward! Her comment was sorry hun, I was looking at something else! Then walked straight into the store! Luckily for her she was a female! Way to represent your gender but not your company! Totally unacceptable!

Howard construction performed services on my grandmothers and fathers home a couple years back per insurance. Upon construction performed by company my grandmother informed them water was coming through floors in spots they came and checked it out and told her to call back if it got worse. Well it did, throughout entire home floors with spots and what seems to be mold coming through as water collecting in puddles in floor not only causing more damage but causing major hazards in home. She was informed vapor wrap was not put down on slab as there was no need per companies statement and it was glued directly to slab. All statements made on this post are solely those of myself Ashley Ramsey and opinions and information gathered from visually seeing and voicemails left by company. I hope they can rectify before something bad happens such as further damage such as electrical or worse some gets hurt to due amount coming through slab. Photos have been taken to show proof and fact. As a business owner and contractor I only hope they can rectify properly before more costs incurred.

I was in the process of getting a contract with this company and they required both my wife and I to sign the contract because we are both listed on the deed and it needed to be notorized! I currently have a leak in my roof and needed to get an appointment scheduled right away to get to process moving and prevent further damage. It was going to be very difficult to have both of us to sign the document and get to office in a timely manner! They were not willing to work with us and would not schedule an appointment before hand. The contract was just over a $1000 and required 1/2 up front! All this urgency over $500. I can fully understand there position but have some leeway. The office supervisor, Don, final words to me before I hung up were, Listen, I didn't put the hole in your roof and your not listening to me"! Wow, if this is there treatment before the contract, I'm won't be sticking around for the after treatment! Too many other caring contractors out there!

Our Intracoastal waterway home suffered the wrath of Hurricane Matthew in October 2016. All of the subfloors of the house had to be removed & replaced in addition to many other complicated repairs. This was a huge project. In order to accomplish the repairs everything had to be moved out of the house & put in storage. This was an extremely stressful & often emotional time, however, it was made so much less so because our home was in the capable hands of Howard Construction. Our insurance company recommended Howard Construction for two previous floods we experienced due to plumbing problems. Howard Construction did a great job then as well as this most recent disaster. The job commenced on time & was completed as scheduled. Our house is in far better condition than before Hurricane Matthew. We are completely satisfied with the end product. The owners & office staff were always available & helpful in navigating the entire process. As with our two previous disasters, we were fortunate to work again with project manager Mike G. Mike definitely "owned" this project making us feel that he truly cared that the work would be done professionally & in a timely manner. While we hope we never require the services of Howard Construction in the future, we would definitely use them & highly recommend the company for any & all house repairs & renovations.

Last fall we had some severe damage to our roof from a storm and was leaking. I contacted Howard Construction from a recommendation of a friend of mine that had used them a few years ago and was very satisfied with them. When I spoke with them I explained my urgency in getting it repaired because I was worried about mold. They responded promptly and was able to get started within days. We had a few upgrades to our roof done and all I can say is that I am in love with the results. Would definitely recommend them!

Would never recommend this company to anyone. Lost my house to a fire in March 2016. Insurance recommended this company, should have been my first clue. Met with them they presented a good sales pitch and made me feel like they really cared. The only thing they cared about was rushing my house to make the insurance happy. Was told house would take 4-6 months, they did it just under 3. They rushed so much above the garage door was never cleaned or painted after the fire. I found pieces of my ceiling, ash and debris in my brand new "finished" house. I was devastated. Project manager apologized but that NEVER should have happened. Structurally Im guessing the house is ok bc it passed inspection. But cosmetically it's awful. House finished September 14th. Paint is already chipping. They supposedly came and fixed it but didnt fix all of it. They promised to wait until house was painted before putting up the flashings, they didnt, and paint is on the flashings. As soon as the paint job was done I could see where they painted over dirt and other stuff and paint immediately came off. There are spots I am going to have to seal myself bc they left gaps on the outside. The shower drain in my all tile shower I paid for out of pocket looks awful. After them trying a couple times to fix, it's still uneven and with sharp edges, I decided to get someone else to come look at it. Plumbing has already leaked to the point of damaging under my kitchen cabinet but guess the leaked fixed itself bc when they came to check it they couldn't find leak. Back french doors are not sealed properly and can see huge gaps where they were not hung right. Asked them several times to fix hole where I secure the second French door and it's still not fixed, I will have to drill new hole myself to secure it properly. Still haven't found the remote to garage door even though to direct quote the project manager: "They come with one and it was there at final. I just don't recall where they were." but I never saw it. The most frustrating thing is the kitchen. I asked for a different layout than I originally had. The project manager and cabinet installer didnt bother to make sure a fridge would fit with the new layout. Can't have french door or side by side fridges with the ice maker on the doors. Had to get an old fashion one and still it barely fits. This will hurt resale value if I decide to sell bc who doesnt want ice/water dispensers? In a time when I was vulnerable, I feel taken advantage of. I desperately wish I had went with a different company.

I had problems with a new roof put on by another company. They would not fix it. I called Howard and they came out and went above and beyond to fix it for me. And were very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone.

I had met with Howard Cummins on several projects. Mr. Cummins indicated he would provide me with a bid on these projects. After weeks and months of delay, numerous calls there are still no available bids. Not a single call or email was returned. Howard has been professional when I did speak with him and apologized for the delay saying he was very busy. I do not understand how it takes months to prepare a bid and then not even respond to a single call or email. IT only takes seconds to pick up a phone and let us know there is an issue.

Based on my experience I would be dubious of this business.
