What people say about “Southers Construction”?
There are not enough reviews yet to form a clear opinion about Southers Construction

Souther's was the only company to tell me I needed to replace the entire roof, when there was a known leak on just a small portion of the rubber roof. They told me the roof needed to be replaced before even going up to see the roof, and as a substitute pitched me a slideshow about how great of a company they are. Wild experience.
RUN! Do not hire this company! You will regret it if you do. They will take your deposit and ghost you. Eventually, they will do “A” job but probably not what you asked for; and will include delays and damages. Then they’ll tell you their guy quoted wrong and you’ll need to pay more to complete your job. Years later you’re still waiting for someone to do warranty repairs, but you will never hear from them again. There is no warranty with Southers. It’s on paper only. The NH Attorney General needs to investigate (and believe they are) Check out their BBB rating. I’d be happy to help.
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I would like to express my extreme dissatisfaction and warn others about the deplorable business practices of Southers Construction and most notably, its owner, Ricky Southers. This review not only reflects my personal ordeal but aligns with a disturbing pattern of behavior that has recently been subject to legal scrutiny by the State of New Hampshire. For details, reference the civil action filed against them for numerous violations of the consumer protection act (NH DOJ News, April 2024) and the preliminary injunction to prevent this company from taking further consumer deposits (NH DOJ News, May 2024).
Southers Construction was contracted to undertake a $60,000 project at my residence for which we gave them a $20,000 deposit. However, the company's handling of the project was nothing short of a calamitous failure. Not only was the work entrusted to unsupervised and unskilled contractors (who often worked barefoot and shirtless), but the project was continuously delayed and eventually abandoned. Ricky Southers personally assured us on our property that he would rectify the situation. Contrary to his promises, he absconded with our funds without any intention of completing the agreed-upon work.
The stress and financial strain this has placed on my family are immense. The audacity of Mr. Southers to stand in our home, make empty promises, and then disappear with our money is unconscionable and indicative of a deliberate intent to defraud. His actions suggest that our hard-earned money was not used towards the project but rather to support his personal indulgences, such as a golf simulator and luxurious vacations, as evidenced by his very public lifestyle.
This letter serves as a warning to potential customers and a plea to regulatory bodies to intensify their scrutiny on Southers Construction. It is companies like these that tarnish the reputation of the construction industry and exploit trusting consumers. Further, Ricky relies on his Veteran status to appeal to consumer's better nature but does not live up to the values he espouses.
I urge all relevant authorities and consumers to take this complaint into account and to take necessary actions that prevent future consumers from falling victim to this kind of egregious misconduct.
Asked Southers to repair a tiny leak in my ceiling; after their work, the leak got significantly worse and destroyed my ceiling. Working with Southers did more harm than repair to my property. Communication and level of responsiveness were weak at best.
Update 10-1-24:
3000+ views of this review and still haven’t gotten a call back or a response from Southers. Incredible!
Some of my ridge line shingles has come off exposing my finished attic to an impending big snow then rain storm. My roofer was unable to come out due to a job he was on and he referred me to Southers. Ricky came out that afternoon as he squeezed me in between jobs due to my concerns about potential attic damage. I would highly recommend Ricky CEO at Southers due to his high customer response. He helped us avoid a very costly water damage situation.
Place is trash.. at one point they had some decent people doing some nice jobs & the production seemed OKAY. Not the case now! Constant changing of contractors & recent projects are overpriced considering the terrible recent
work being done. Do your research
before investing even your time into this company, unless of course you dont mind overpriced unfinished work. The proof is in the pudding My friends!! Please BEWARE. Do your research, all bad news.
I received a call out of the blue saying they were calling about my project. I told them I didn't have a project with them. The woman that called was insistent that I did and that I had spoken to Ricky Southers numerous times and was texting me this morning. Rather than apologizing for calling the wrong number, she kept insisting she was right. I asked her where my home was and then she then asked me if I was "John Doe". I told her I wasn't she quickly apologized and hung up. She was very rude to "a client" and would never work for me.
We got into contract with Southers Construction for roof replacement with 50 yrs of warranty. However we found that the replaced roof was defective as it started leaking every time there is rain. We contacted Southers in Jan 2023 about the issue when we noticed the leak but the issue is not resolved as of today after several attempts to reach. Southers agrees to take care of the repair as part of warranty but has failed to do in last one year, citing reasons of being not having enough crew and busy and giving promises of performing repair next month.
The frequent water leaks have created mold in the ceiling. Last month's two rains damaged the bed when we were away. This has caused health issues leading to lot of frustration and mental stress while dealing with Southers. not able to upload videos because of file format.
BBB Accreditation Revocation:
On 07/20/2023 this business's accreditation in the BBB was revoked by the BBB's Board of Directors due to failure by the business to adhere to the BBB requirement that Accredited Businesses meet.
Pattern of Complaint:
BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning extreme delays in promised work completion following the acceptance of monetary deposits for work and poor quality of completed work. The business has also demonstrated a lack of timely response to complaints filed by their consumers through the BBB complaint process.
On July 6th, 2023, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints. As of July 20, 2023, BBB has not received a response from the business regarding our concerns.
Update as of 1/26/24. They have refunded my deposit in full after 7 weeks of continued follow up. I have improved the rating from one star to two.
Do yourself a favor before paying them any money and review their Better Business Bureau status of F- Revoked and reviews. It's too late for me but hopefully this will help others. I paid 50% deposit of $843 on 12/10/23. I called several days later for an update and was told the cost would be more than double the cost to complete the job as quoted. Or they would keep the cost the same and do much less work. He was less than pleasant and tried to blame me for taking advantage of them! Said they would refund my money within a week. I followed up a couple times per week with no response. This is the same treatment the others have received who filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau. I have roof leaks that need to be fixed and they have no sympathy or concern.
Edit: I got nowhere with the BBB and now the NH Attorney General's office is involved.
knew the second I looked at my roof when it was done (Nov 2021) that something just wasn't right. The shingles never settled properly and they bow up as soon as the weather gets cold (either the underlayment was defective or it was done wrong). They have sent out reps 4 different times (I lost count, TBH, might be 5) and all agreed the roof needed to be replaced under warranty. Yet, trying to get them to replace it has been nothing short or maddening & frustrating. Every time I think I've got it settled, I'm back to square one because that production manager no longer works there and no one seems to know anything about my property and the cycle starts all over again. This has now been going on for more than 2 years. It's absolutely ridiculous at this point. Emails, messages - all go unanswered or ignored. When someone does finally answer, I get the obligatory "I'm sorry...I will reach out to the production team" reply...and then never hear from then until I start bugging them again. I can't even go through the Owens Corning site because I can't get Southers to even provide me with a copy of a paid invoice and the warranty.
Anyone considering using them should check out the BBB of New Hampshire. I wish I had.
Very knowledgeable. Took the time to listen to my concerns and and explain in detail how he'd take care of the issue. Was there when he said he'd be.
We had a great experience with Southers and plan to use them for several more roofing projects. We hired them to re-flash a roof leak near our chimney for us and when they were here the guys also fixed a leaking hose they saw on my property/ just to be helpful! Professional, reliable, affordable and kind folks!
I woke to a leak in my kitchen ceiling. Asked online for suggestions, and was put in touch with Ricky. He came by that day and provided me with options. It was straight forward and financing was available with reasonable terms. ( I did get other quotes as well.)
Within the week, the crew arrived. Even with a little more decay than originally expected, I had a new, sturdier roof with better ventilation by the end of the day. I had one issue and called Ricky. He came over 2 days later, on a Sunday, and took care of it. I believe in supporting local businesses and made an excellent decision going with Souther. I would consider Souther for additional projects in the future.
I have been dealing with Southers since they first been around. I live in a mobile home which on its self is very hard to find someone that will work on the. Southers Came right out asked what I would like done and the relationship started. I had black mold in my ceiling from a 5 year old roof from a previous company that would not honor their work, Southers was very honest with me and stated I only needed a few parts replaced however during the Job I decided to have everything removed, there was no hassle saying well we will have to come back ect. My roof was only supposed to take a week. But because I asked mid job for different things Southers was at my home almost 3 weeks. The Workers and Ricky never once expressed frustration with me, instead all they cared about was that I was happy. They always arrived on time, and even worked with my 3rd shift work schedule. I ended up given everyone on that roofing crew Saws due to being professional.
Flashforward year later I needed my windows done so I had contacted Clearchoice to do that, at the same time I wanted a Deck done, Ricky and one of his Salesman came out, I started talking about how I had a window crew coming but wanted to make sure no one was in the way for the decking. That's when even more greatness came. The Southers team ran some numbers and saved me thousands, because I had already bought the windows from Clear Choice the team right away said we will go get the windows ( Manchester) I live in Rochester. They did not charge me extra for that. Long story short. And many Ideas ( changes on my part) later Southers done 7 Jobs at my house and I will not use anyone else.
I have seen this company growing at a fast rate, The owner believes in Core Values to keep his business running and his employee to live by. That means a lot because not many contractors even know what Core Values for a business mean.
Keep up the great work Ricky and the rest of the Southers Team. You are making an impact in the communities you work in.
I've waited to post this review to see if I could get a decent response, but I did not. First off the crew that did my roof work did a good job under really lousy weather conditions. Roof looks good from the street.
My problem is the pitiful follow-through of the sales team and site supervisor. The installation crew was unsupervised for the entire project, as the supervisor Ryan did not come to check the installation teams work, nor did Southers send out any other personnel to check the completed work.
During the removal of the old roof, the roofers damaged a screen to my kitchen window, which has not been repaired, despite Russ telling me he would personally fix it.
Contacted Russ and asked him to come out and check the roof work, and he said he'd be out the following week. Russ still has not shown. My roof is still not inspected, my screen is still torn, and I get nothing but silence from this company. Their words are hollow and they have no integrity.
I would expect better from a company that claims they are top notch, but maybe their owner is too busy making YouTube videos to care about his customers.
Avoid using this company if you can, there are many other contractors that will stand by their work and care for their customers.
Follow-up: Got an email from Southers asking if I had time to talk about my review. I gave them phone numbers and times available. This was Nov. 3. I have not heard anything, which basically points out what I said in my initial review. Follow-through with this company is very poor.
This company replaced the roof on our house back in June of this year. Communication was very poor, both from the company to the customer and within the company itself.
The roofers that came, seemed not to understand the full scope of the work they were to do. I had to re-explain to them what we had already discussed prior to the work being done.
We had discussed covers on our gutters, this information was not passed to the company that came and did the gutters so I had to request a refund on those materials. This refund took several months to get back as the person I was initially in contact with left the company and my request was never passed onto anyone else. I was also unaware of when the gutter company was coming, so when they showed up at my house it was a bit of a surprise.
Through all the frustrations that we dealt with, the workers did great work and the roof looks amazing. We are happy with the results, but just wish communication had been better than it was.
The Boys at Southers came out to my Kingston home and looked at a problem I had from a previous roofer. They diagnosed my problem and offered a solution. They demonstrated their expertise and knowledge of what was needed to protect my home. I would highly recommend you contact them fopr your roofing, siding, window and exterior home needs!
BEWARE - this company can no longer be trusted!
I had Southers do extensive work on my house in 2018 and 2019 and they did a wonderful job. So when I needed work done at my new home in November 2022, I called them. Completely different company and not in a good way!! They gave me a quote quickly and I signed and gave them a 50% deposit and then they have ghosted me ever since. NO WORK has been done, they still have my money and every time I have contacted them, they have given me empty promises which have never been followed up on. It's been 10 months. The last 4 months, I have asked multiple times, both verbally and written, to have the contract cancelled and my money returned and I have received no response. My complaint is now with the BBB. I can see from the other reviews (and other complaints at the BBB) that I'm not the only one they have done this to. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.
UPDATE: It's now been 12 months and still no resolution on this from Southers. A person reached out to me a few weeks ago, but when I contacted her today for an update on my refund, she indicated she no longer works for the company. Calling the company just gets me sent to a voicemail box and my calls are not returned. The claim with the BBB is still open.
I have spent thousands of dollars with Southers over the years for deck repair, new roof and double deck doors. The doors were not installed properly last year and I have a major water leak. I hired a leak detection company from Boston and they shared that the door installation was to blame. I chased the project manager for help for weeks and then found out that he no longer worked there. I then worked with another project manager who had the manufactures rep. Come and look at my door and confirmed it needed to be replaced. Then Southers went silent again. I continued to chase the replacement project manager for weeks only to find out that he no longer works there as well. Another project manager was assigned and came out and said all past history of my project was not saved in their database so we have to start from the beginning. It has been over a month with no plan. Beyond frustrating!
When we first started working with Ricky and Southers years ago they were great. I guess when your business grows all they care about is new work and existing customers are ignored.
We had a great experience getting a new roof installed by Southers Construction. Eli's crew was the best! They were respectful, on time, worked hard, and cleaned up extremely well. We are very happy!
I’ve been in touch with this company for close to 2 months now. It has been like pulling teeth to get any type of quote out of them. I’ve been dealing with Raf who started out very nice and responsive, but over the last few weeks his response times have been less than ideal. He made it sound the like the sky is the limit as far as what I want done, and they came out to look at the property, but then the quotes are always way out of the budget I provided. When I communicate that and ask for a revised quote on a smaller scale project, I don’t hear anything back.
The quotes I have received have only come after me asking over and over again, never when they tell me they will send them.
I think I will have to cut my losses on time spent and find a more reliable contractor.
Mickey and Jeremy showed up on time, were pleasant and professional. They worked together like a finely oiled machine. The quality of their craftsmanship and competence shows in the installation off my window! They were patient and kind to my 6 year old who had a ton of questions and wanted to be their helper. I highly recommend them. I love my new window!
I used Southers construction to install much needed gutters on my home. Sean was very informative on what size gutters would work because my landscaping would only allow one downspout per front and back of home. Gutters were installed in a timely fashion and at a very reasonable price. I reached out to Sean about the size of the downspouts and within a week the crew was back and everything is now perfect. We are more than happy with our experience using Southers and especially Sean’s professionalism and fast response.
Southers came and built me a four season porch on my summer home in new durham and I couldn’t have asked for better.. the pm listened and took notes of everything I was asking for and that’s what I got, plus more because the crew who built it went above and beyond. I have a few more projects I want done and I’ll definitely be going through them for all my needs. Thank you southers for an amazing experience
I had my roof done one year ago ( 2022) and in Jan 2023 i saw a wet spot developing on my livingroom ceiling and immediately called them to come look at it. I'm still waiting after almost 3 weeks.........lifetime warranty is all I kept hearing and now it looks like I'm going to wait a lifetime to get it fixed. The roof was subcontracted, they left screws all over my driveway so I had to replace several tires. They incorrectly estimated the job and it cost me more than I had budgeted so my shed roof didnt get done. I'm gonna say if you go with them then babysit them and hold them accountable. I didnt and it's cost me ever since.
When I needed my driveway cleared out they where able to meet my needs even though I was not a regular customer. I will definitely be utilizing their services again.
If I could give zero stars, I would have. Our exterior remodel with Southers started nearly 12 months ago now for siding and decking. Work crews were inconsistent and quality lacking, with a number of finishes having to be redone. Most of the work was completed by early summer with supply chain issues causing delays on the last items. Our PM was unresponsive and didn’t move the project forward. We found out this month that he was let go and his boss was taking over to complete. We hoped that things would be different, but the two workers he sent over did minimal work on day 1, left windows open and drove their van over our neighbors yard, causing the damage pictured. Another PM came by that day to check progress and I told him I wanted a call back from the boss and also texted him the photos to call me back ASAP. New PM also pointed out at least 10 installation issues that had never been called out before and needed to be redone. That was 7 days ago and I have not heard from anyone and my neighbors yard is still as is. We are at a loss at this point.
I chose to use Southers Construction based upon two factors, they were a local company, and they had very good reviews in social media. I needed immediate assistance as my roof lost shingles during a rain and wind storm.
They were very quick to have a sales person come and quote the job, and at a reasonable price. However, they didn't have the bandwidth to secure a temporary tarp covering to the open ridge to prevent more water damage. (Down rating #1) I did that work myself.
I had to reach out to them 4 weeks following the sales visit, quote and paying a 50% down payment, to ask when they were coming to do the work. Fortunately, my temporary cover tarp was holding out water, snow and ice, but the replacement ridge vent and shingles were still not installed. (Down rating #2 non-communicative)
Three weeks later, I called again and was told they would be out the next day at 8am.
The next day arrived, I left for work at 9am and still no show by the crew. I called their office to find out what was going on and was told they were waiting to start work due to threatening rain. (not a drop fell from the sky) Shortly there after, my wife found out that the crew went to the wrong address and started to rip off the ridge vent on my next door neighbor's home. They only stopped when the police arrived to find out what was going on. The sub-contractor crew was provided with both the address for the house, and photos of the exterior and of the work to be done. Including photos of the missing shingles on my roof (note there were none missing from my neighbor's roof) They then began repairing the damage they had caused, before, starting work on my property. I was the one to report these facts to the project manager in the office, not the crew. Once they were done at the neighbor's they began the work they were supposed to do. It was completed in fairly short order. (Down rating #3)
The following day, the work was inspected by a field supervisor who apologized for the error and made sure that all small bits of trash were removed and any errant nail holes from the temporary cover were properly sealed.
My lower rating comes from the disappointment in their not being able to install temporary cover, poor communications from the project manager and horrible execution by the subcontractor by damaging (then fixing) my neighbor's home. I would be cautious with this company
I hired Southers in April 2022 for a few projects around the exterior of my home (new roof and trim, a deck replacement, two landings, some new doors, and some pocket windows for the basement). Their price was high, but the promise of project management was a big plus in their favor.
I had a agreement that the project would be done by the end of August (we even laughed because the date was so far in the future).
In practice, their project managers came and went and eventually just disappeared. It was a nightmare to get anything going. (At one point, the new project manager forgot about me. At another point, an employee who left time company "had my folder". Etc.)
When I called on September 1 to point out that there was a lot left to do, they promised it would be done by the end of September. When I called on October 1, they promised it would be done by the ned of October. When I called on November 1, they promised it would be done before it snowed. When it snowed in December, it buried all of their materials. The only reason the dumpster was removed was because the dumpster company accidentally picked up mine instead of my neighbors. It took months for them to remove the debris pile from my front yard.
When the work did happen, the quality was very good (they do hire good carpenters, roofers, etc.) But the project finally finished on February 6, 2023... 5 months and 6 days late. I never even got a call from a project manager or company management to check on anything. The only reason why they get 3 stars is because of the quality of their work.
But, I hired Southers to be a general contractor and I ended up doing the job myself. I have plenty more work to do around the house, but I'll find someone else to do it.
We hired Southers to install 13 windows and a door in our screened-in porch, and they did a fantastic job. Mike gave us the quote, and he was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Eric, Max, and Niko, who did the install, were excellent craftsmen, and were also very polite and professional. They exceeded our expectations--all the windows and doors were non-standard sizes, so they expanded the openings, replaced all the framing (some of the wood had rotted), and trimmed the interior and exterior to perfection.
Also, I mentioned to Eric that I was planning to put flooring down so we could use the room most of the year, and he suggested they add insulation underneath. He got me a price (which was very reasonable), and they added two layers of insulation under the porch along with strapping to make sure it stayed in place.
All-in-all, Southers was a pleasure to deal with, and we would highly recommend them.
Terrible company, will never use again. Chose them for a big project to replace all the windows, doors, and siding on my house. Spent months working with the sales team to design the project, and they completely botched the handover to production, who got most of the ordering and installation wrong, started making their own design decisions, took shortcuts, and a year and a half later the project still isn’t done and the J channels are falling off the house. Cannot get anyone to come fix the poor work that was done, overall lack of responsiveness and quality work. Extremely disappointing esp given how much the project costs.
The work was done in one day.The only issue we have(had) was getting things scheduled. They would promise to get back to me and I would not hear for days beyond the time frame they gave me. I had to call several times to get a satisfactory response for date of installation. When they finally gave me a firm date, they were there on that date and worked efficiently. What convinced us to contract with Southers was the warranty
Can’t say enough about how great this company is to work with. Everything that was promised was completed with precision and on time. I would work with them anytime.
Thanks for a great job.

I first used Southers to install new gutters to my home. They were always responsive to questions, quick to return calls and very professional. They recently installed a new front door for me. Again, on time, was very personable and the job turned out great! I trust them to be fair and prompt. I just called to see about a third project!
ZERO STARS!!! Got a quote from them for some work to my house. They qouted me $30,000 LOL!! I Had 2 other companies qoute me for the same job, 1 for $5,000 and 1 for $6,200..Both of these companies told me to stay away from Southers cause they severly screw people over. Bottom line, they where right and they tried to bend me over a barrel / screw me out of as much money as possible. Save some time and money and find someone else..
From the very first phone call until the work ended today, I had a very positive experience with Southers. Each team member was very polite, professional and hard working. They did the trim work in Aztec and now I won’t ever have to paint again. I was quoted the job and told 6-8 weeks to start and that was exactly what happened. I’m very pleased with the outcome and highly recommend this company.
After buying our house at the end of August 2021, my husband and I had to look into a new roof in December way earlier than we anticipated. Southers was responsive and quick to get out to us for an inspection and project estimate. Despite the holidays and frigid weather, we had a brand new, gorgeous roof up within two weeks. Unfortunately there were a few hiccups that occurred a few times after the initial installation. After reaching out to share my concerns, I eventually was connected with Raf Llorens and he was so patient and understanding with my frustrations. He immediately connected me directly to Ricky, who personally came out to my house as soon as possible to go over things and come up with a solution. I was floored by how personable both Raf and Ricky are, and how they took time to listen to me and work things out. Scott was the latest project manager to come out and he was also very kind and patient, and stayed at my house answering all of my questions until his crew was wrapped up. From the start, I was impressed with the time the Southers guys took to talk to us and explain things in a user-friendly type of way, providing education and not just talking AT us for a sale. My experiences with Ricky, Raf, and Scott have genuinely changed my mind about Southers and I can, with complete certainty, say that they absolutely stand by their promises and are busting their behinds to deliver the best service to their customers. We are beyond happy with our beautiful chateau green roof and I am personally thankful that so much time was spent ensuring that we were well taken care of and, most importantly, heard. Thank you, Southers Construction!
We hired Southers Construction to replace the siding and repair water damage to the sheathing on one side of our house in Rochester, NH. We were extremely pleased with their work. They were the only company who called us back and set up a next day estimate. Carson, their Sales rep, was friendly and stayed a long time to answer all our questions. Steve, their project manager, came out a few days later and explained in detail how the work would be done. He sent out Eric and his crew from EJP who impressed us with their knowledge and work ethic. They arrived first thing in the morning and stayed until late in the evening with minimal breaks. They finished the job in two days. They fixed the defects of the original builder. The James Hardie composite siding they recommended looks far better than our original cedar siding. We highly recommend Southers Construction and plan to use them again to redo our roof and replace more of our siding.
Southers is an amazing and trustworthy contractor! Everyone I worked with was very professional and knowledgeable. Matt Laurin put a team together to do the complete upgrade of my home .New siding and deck - updates inside as well included some doors and windows and drywall repair! You can count on Southers for just about any home improvement need you have ! Fair and reasonable pricing as well.
Jamie guided us through material selection and pricing so we could make residing our house a reality. Matt kept us posted with regular updates as our siding project was completed. His team worked quickly and efficiently. The materials are high quality, the workmanship great, and Matt was very receptive to detailing requests at project closeout. Now the house looks brand new and the siding will be maintenance free for decades! Thanks for peace of mind, Southers!
Had a great experience getting our roof and gutters replaced by Southers. Chris F made the planning and decision making process easy to understand and we were very happy with both crews who showed up to complete the work!
This was our first experience with Southers and I would use them again in a heartbeat.
The thing that impressed me the most was the communication which was frequent with prompt responses. During these times of high demand, it's sometimes hard to get a return call from contractors. Ryan replied to me immediately and met me on site within a day.
From there their specialists from other teams (roofing, gutters, siding, general construction) offered options and advice and the project scope actually expanded to create more efficiency and ultimately value. The ended up replacing all our siding, repaired soffits and facia and installed new gutter systems on our Victorian.
From the time we signed a contract (all digital with detailed plans and 3D digital views) , it was less than a week (not normal) to get the first crew working, who made very good time and were neat, respectful and did high quality work.
All throughout the process Steve (our project manage) was just a text away. He always responded quickly, met me on site when I had questions and provided me with valuable advice and suggestions. There was a small issue with some accidental damage which he quickly resolved and made it better than it was before. It felt more like a partnerships than a client/contractor relationship- I was pleasantly surprised when I compared this to previous experience with builders/contractors.
Throughout the construction process (3 weeks) I felt important to them, even though it was not a huge job and was very pleased with the quality of the work. Working with Ryan and Steve feels like working with a small firm, yet they have the backing of a huge team with great experienced people, the latest tools and technology and super office support.
While it's true, their pricing may seem a bit higher than others, but the level of professionalism, technology, coordination with the town or utility companies, no hidden charges and their follow up process and made it well worth the extra few bucks, level of comfort and overall efficiency. By the end of the job, I felt the value was 100% spot on whereas in the beginning it seemed 9-10% more expensive than other bids. They even sent a follow up cleanup person to sweep the lawn and yard for any scraps or other debris to make sure people or dogs had no issues walking barefoot on the lawn. Impressive and and unusual level of service.
This job finished up with everyone happy and feeling great about the results. Ryan, Steve and Scott were all great and treated us with respect and like family. I would be happy to have a beer or two with any of them after work!
One final note, this company is locally owned (Dover) and treats their crews and subcontractors well, gives back to the community by building homes for veterans and supports local sports teams and other community groups. Thanks Southers for your work and I look forward to the next job! -Scott & Sarah
Absolutely trash company they use old beat up materials, windows and doors and sell them to customers as brand new. I've seen more then a couple poor elderly people get taken advantage of. Not only that they are usually double the price of their competitors and still pull the wool over their customers eyes. Get a company that cares about their customers and just doesn't spend their deposits just to turn around and sell them a slider installed twice prior.
We contracted Southers to repair damaged siding on our house. It turned out the damage was more extensive than we thought. In addition to the siding, quite of bit of structural repair was needed on the house. Southers quickly changed plans and repaired the structural damage as well as the initial siding damage. Throughout the whole process they patiently answered all of my questions. Overall, they were professional and easy to work with.
Matt was a great PM to work with. Such wonderful attention to detail and he had fantastic suggestions I never even considered. Would definitely like to work with him again on our next project (now I want a pergola).
EDIT: Unfortunately I have to update this review. Since originally written, it rained and I learned that water is leaking into the eaves along the entire roof edge that Southers had touched. They had replaced the drip edge where the roof meets the shadow board.
They said they'd take care of it, but all that meant was they came out and put some sealant on top. It still leaks a lot, but less than before. Doesn't solve the actual problem and is not a good long term solution.
For several months I have been trying to get Southers to perform a repair. They acknowledge that the water is coming in at the drip edge they installed, but will not accept any responsibility. They have now told me to find another contractor to fix the problem.
As part of our discussions I hired a home inspector, who confirmed to me that Souther's work was designed and executed in a way that left the shadowboard/fascia exposed to this leaking. This did no change Souther's response at all.
One Southers employee told me that they couldn't predict the leak and there is an element of "trial and error" to this work. It was tough not to laugh at the craziness of this concept. Seems true, except they only try once and the homeowner is on the hook for try number two.
If I could go back in time I would never let Southers touch my house.
ORIGINAL:
We had two distinct parts of our work with Southers. We had our fascia/shadowboard replaced. And then new gutters were installed. Each part was by a different team, but the same project manager.
Some work, like the gutters, was done very well. The other work by different subs seems have some areas of questionable quality. The work was rushed and some was even done in the dark after 8pm. The next morning I reminded the crew about some details on certain areas they missed on the first time around, which they didn’t seem to realize.
The project manager took little initiative to proactively make sure the work was being done carefully by the subs. Most comments were responded to with “ok will do” but then there was no noticeable change in anything. He responded quickly, but without any substantive action being taken.
Certain parts of the contract about site prep, care, and cleanup were ignored despite being repeatedly noted to the project manager. These may seem minor but they were specifically discussed and added when we signed the contract, and we were assured everything would be followed. In reality, almost none of those terms were followed. I was told “the subs forgot, they will do it tomorrow” but then tomorrow was the same. Some cleanup occurred at the end when I said I wouldn’t make the final payment until it was completed.
An example the way questions were dealt with: There was too large a gap between some but not all of the fascia boards. I asked the project manager to specifically tell me how the gap would be dealt with. He said okay, sure. Then he never got back to me and later the subs filled in the gaps with some putty or caulk, leaving no time to consider another solution.
Organization and communication between the project manager and the subs was poor. The project manager told me the subs would show up three days in a row and they did not until the next week, so he either wasn’t actually talking to them or wasn’t able to understand their schedule.
The project manager demanded further payment on the morning of the first day of work, which was contrary to the contract. Only a few hours after the work was done, he demanded full payment immediately before any accounting of the final amount owed (based on the actual material used) and before they had completed any of the required site cleanup.
Half the job was done well (gutters). The other half seemed rushed but passable. Any other terms in the contract about site care and cleanup or even when payments were required seemed to be viewed as optional by the project manager. So even though the work was completed, I was not happy with the management of the project.
I found Southers online and decided to give them a call about some siding and window installation questions. After calling, we set up an in home evaluation. Chris the sales professional was an awesome guy who answered all of my questions and worked out a plan with to get the job done. We set up a pre installation inspection and met the project manager Steve. Within a week we had materials and a crew onsite ready to roll. The crew Steve hired showed up everyday, rain or shine until the project was 100% completed. Steve's communication and organization was just as what was promised from the beginning. I would absolutely recommend Southers to my friends and family.
I was looking for a reliable company for months until I found Southers they came out the next day, we talked about windows and flooring and trim work they very professional, organized and on time. Cory Steve Chris and Tom were great to work with and were going to use them for the deck out back this summer.
This is the company Rochester needs. Im so glad I found them to make this my forever home.
I had the old vinyl siding removed and new Tyvek and siding installed, also 2 entry doors and a slider as well. All work was done very well and in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Southers Construction.
They found a structural problem, called me, quoted a reasonable price and fixed the issue. Great crew, very knowledgeable, friendly and a super bunch of guys. In fact, all of Southers Construction gang were awesome to deal with and I highly recommend them
Repairs were needed around our chimney due to a water leak. Carson and Steve were both knowledgeable and thorough. Steve took the time to go over details of the work with us using before and after photos of the process. The job was done to our satisfaction, and we will be happy to do business with Southers in the future if needed!
Donna was a true professional and was very imformitive and knowledgeable in regards to the product and sales of items. Donna also followed up in a timly matter and had our family best interest at heart...Thank you for services...
I was in the market to have my siding done and had just had a mediocre experience with another company that did my roof. Needless to say i was more skeptical than normal because of it. I did a search on Google to find a different company and Southers came up. They had good reviews and were within a reasonable distance so I emailed about a quote. The response time was within 24 hours to schedule my initial meeting. Carson came out and gave me info about the company, did a fantastic job answering the million questions I had and made me feel comfortable about hiring them to work on my house. (No small feat, I assure you) I got to test out all the colors on a program they sent me too, which was really fun and super helpful. Steve, the project manager came out to take measurements and talk to me about what i was looking for, which reassurred me further that I was in good hands. Once the project started there were a couple of hiccups because of miscommunication. But, I was able to reach out to Steve and Carson on several occasions to discuss my concerns. Each time they were very receptive to my feedback and never made me feel like i was bothering them or being super needy. This was also a huge deal to me as a lot of places seem annoyed when you ask them to fix something that wasn't what you expected. Not only did Steve agree with my concerns, he went above and beyond to correct them to make sure I was super happy. My project consisted of every window in my house being replaced, slider installed, all new siding and 3 new doors. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend them to everyone I know.. in fact I do. Im still waiting on my doors to be installed, but my house looks a million times better and the doors will add the final touch to make my house the envy of the neighborhood. I couldn't be happier!!! Anyone looking for HONEST, DEDICATED guys to work on their home, should absolutely go with Southers Construction.
We contracted Southers to do our addition. A sizable project 24x29. 2 story with under car garage. They tackled it well, communication was free flowing. The crews were all very polite, they showed up when they said they would. From the ground up the project was handled well. Everyone we worked with at Southers was pleasant and understanding of the fact that we were still living in the home while this all happened. Many thanks to Southers crew for making this a pleasant experience. We would recommend them.
My recent experience with Southers was outstanding! Everyone I had contact with was very responsive and pleasant from beginning to end of my project. The work was completed quickly and expertly, and my project manager, John, was extremely courteous and kept me informed every step of the way. I would definitely call Southers for any work needed in the future!
Contacted Southers about a window installation and had someone there for a quote within 24 hours. Window was of an abnormal size, so it did take awhile to come in, but once they had it they sent folks over to install it.
2 Hiccups, but still 5 stars:
1. Vinyl siding was damaged, and had to be replaced. Not all of it, but it was a risk I was aware could happen with a project like this. But the project manager (Steve) went to a supplier and sent me photos of colors next to a sample, verified the color with me and the vinyl was up the next day. You really can only see the color difference if it's pointed out.
2. The window was installed slightly off center. I was originally frustrated by this, but my lack of knowledge assumed it was the only way to do it given the frame. Steve came to the house for payment and saw the window, and refused my check, saying he'd have someone over the next day to get it center. Sure enough, the window was centered the following morning.
Overall I'm pleased with the work they have done, and will give them a call for the next renovation project I need.
I contracted for front and back decks of Azek, James Hardie Plank clapboard siding on the south side of my home and 3 new windows facing south. Although there was a wait on materials due to the pandemic, once the work started it was done expertly and efficiently. Will, Mark and Sherman worked on my decks. Besides being highly skilled, they listened well, were flexible regarding my design ideas and cared about quality work.
PJ, Beth and Luis worked on the siding and window installation. They had a great work ethic and dealt with problem solving effortlessly. They also cared about customer satisfaction and did quality work.
Steve, the project manager, was very responsive via texting and in person. The company approach to my project was very professional and I am delighted with the outcome. I will certainly call them for future projects.
We used Southers to remove some rot & mold that resulted from another contractors faulty work. The workers were professional and we are happy with the finished product. All of the rot and mold were removed and the water leak was repaired.
We went with Southers Construction to replace our siding and some of our windows. We knew we wanted Hardie siding, so Hardie recommended several local companies, including Southers. We were impressed at the speed and efficiency of the three person team who handled our estimate. We had a lot of questions which they immediately addressed, and they were able to give us a solid quote same-day. We choose Southers based on the great initial interaction and the impressive reviews we found online.
Due to the pandemic, supplies were delayed but our project leader Steve was great at managing our expectations and keeping us informed of the timeline. Once they received all the materials, the project started quickly.
We have a very old house that has its quirks. You often hear horror stories of construction projects going massively over budget so we were nervous about this. The team did have a few issues with our house, including a surprise second layer of old siding hiding under the first layer, that had to be demo’d and disposed of. Steve made sure we understood the hiccups and the small increase in the estimate due to this and a couple other small issues. He definitely helped us worry less and made sure we had no surprises at the end of the job.
The construction crew was fantastic as well. Super professional and respectful of us and our home. The work they completed was great. Steve continued to review their work and found a few small issues that he had corrected immediately. He definitely has an eye for the details and made sure everything was perfect and that we were 100% happy at the end of the project. We also feel very secure that if we do have any issues with any of the work, Southers will immediately take care of us. It’s clear that they take care of their customers and they really want us to be happy.
I highly recommend Southers due to our great experience. Like many people, we had very little experience with home renovations and we were nervous. If you’re nervous - don’t be! You can trust them to do a beautiful job and they will make sure you are thrilled with your project. Our home looks about a thousand times nicer now that we finally replaced our very old siding and windows. We will post pictures when we can.
The work done by Southers Construction has been nothing but incredible! They replaced our old gutters that were falling apart and ensured no problems going forward with the brand new installed gutters. Not to mention to speed and quality workmanship on the new roofing installation that they had done. Communication was excellent, even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner Ricky Southers himself, was able to thank him for such an incredible experience. Absolutely would recommend Southers to friends and family, already have!
Could not be happier with the roof, gutters, exterior reno (doors, steps, windows, trim, siding) of my 1950's home. The process took a while, but Southers delivered. I am glad I went with a company the prides themselves with craftsmanship and quality. Tommy @ Southers is the project manager to work with. He kept my project on track and completed on time.
.Now In 2023 I need warranty work done....I have waited 2 years.... please don't ever use this company..... I've been lied too on many occasions....once they have the money they are gone.....so many good contractors out there it's sad this one makes them look bad.... after 15000.00 they can't do a couple of hours of work....they started out great and went south quickly
Southers was totally professional from start to finish. I ordered a garden window for my kitchen (from Lowes) and by the time it was delivered (4 months!) Winter was approaching. Southers understood my predicament and fit my window install into their schedule. Rick came out, estimated the install and associated work, and gave me a good deal on the spot. Since I am a disabled veteran, they gave me a military discount (the owner is a veteran) Southers expedited the job and the crew they sent was professional, skilled and friendly. I will use Southers again in the Spring as I upgrade and remodel my lakehouse. Honestly, these people are the best I've found in New Hampshire.
We are absolutely thrilled with the results of our project - all new siding, trim, skirting, and new windows on 2 porches - it was a big project for our family’s lake house and something we had been talking about for many years. Choosing Southers proved to be a great decision - the crew did impeccable work! Steve Schofield was a fantastic PM who was detailed oriented, a great listener, and an even better communicator. I would recommend Southers, and Steve, to anyone looking for a full service construction company.
Highly recommend, professional team. Project Manager, Nick LaBroad and team treated our small job with same attention and total follow through to completion.
Great experience thus far working with Samantha and Raf, both very professional and friendly. Job should finished next week, I’ll make sure to add more to the review then.
I had Southers do a vent install on our metal roof. Excellent service and on time. I would recommend them to anyone.
We recently decided to have a mud room/ entrance way added to the front of our home. We run an in home doggie daycare and needed more room for clients to pickup their dogs. We chose Southers construction. So far we have been very pleased with whom we have dealt with.
It started with Raphael. He came and met with us about the scope of our project. We spoke to him letting him know that we were looking to get the bump out done, new vinyl siding, and a new metal roof. He explained options to us. Explained all our options. While never once pushing his company or product down our throats. We really appreciated it.
The first crew we dealt with was the framing crew. They were very pleasant to work with. They were very polite, courteous and professional at all times. Eric offered a couple options when doing the bump out that made more sense then I was making. Then I threw a minor curve at him by asking if they could remove an old French door with a new one. The very next day he and his crew swapped it out for us. The quality of there work was superior to any I have seen. I also can not say anything but great things about Eric.
Hector was in charge of the rubber roof crew that we replaced over our dog porch. His crew were also very informative and professional. He explained what they were going to do and showed us what was happening with the old roof and how they were going to correct it. Upon completion he showed us what he did and that the new metal roof would tie into it.
The experience so far has been tremendous. Thank you to all who have done a great job so far.
Southers Construction is an excellent outfit: great service, reliability and follow through. They took over my three residential unit project from a loser contractor that evaporated on me and provided top notch crews to install skylites, roofing and siding; to build porches and decks; install kitchens, baths and flooring, and all the interior trim. The work they did was of consistently high quality and their people were great to work with. When any mistakes were made they were quickly corrected. I really appreciated the courtesy and consideration I received from Southers.
Will, Mark and Sherman were great to work with for the first phase of the project, and then were joined by Steve, Kevin, Eric, Trystan and Nico.
They all did an excellent job and were a pleasure to work with.
We had some fascia boards and soffetts replaced. From the initial phone call to meeting with Rodrigo and Tommy was great! Everything was done in a very timely manner. Thank you Southers!
We contracted Southers Construction this spring to replace 2 windows on our third floor. After a couple hiccups with having the wrong materials and equipment the project manager Steve pulled the needed crew and materials together to get it done the very next day. At a time where everyone in the construction world is overwhelmed with a high workload I respected the fact that they pulled the necessary strings to complete a 'small job' such as mine. The windows look great and I was very impressed with there honesty and communication and will definitely use them in the future.
My husband and I are happy to share the extremely positive experience we have had with Southers Construction! It took me months last spring to find a contractor willing to come to our home to discus the install we wanted on our front farmers porch. We receive an extreme amount of wind here on our hilltop and wanted to install a patio door topped by a transom window on either end of the porch to block the wind. We just had a paper drawing to show our thoughts and Rod and Jeff were kind enough to bring Eric out to chat and give our dream life. Eric immediately understood what we wanted and brought his kind, courteous, professional team here yesterday to do the custom install, which they completed in one 10 hour day! We would not hesitate to call on Southers again if the need arises.
Our house is a new construction and it didn't come with gutters or a storm door. We hired Southers to install both, and they did quality work. What I liked about working with them is that they came off professionally in a soup-to-nuts sense.
We worked with one guy on intake-type stuff - pricing/financing, and the pro's and con's of what our project scope could be, given the particularities of our house and lot - then the project was handed off to a manager whose sole job was to execute on it. Their communication was consistent without being excessive, which helped a lot since we've found being new homeowners overwhelming.
RUN FROM THIS Company
my recent dealings with Southers construction
has shown that they are a completely dishonest and are comprised of conmen from the salesmen all the way to the HR department and to Rick Southers himself.
I have attempted to get my deposit refunded for a year now and am forced to file a claim against them as they have lied, deceived and were so dishonest in dealing with me. Every person promised to get my refund to me.
Update from 2023: Southers has truly gone downhill. We contracted them for a simple 2-door installation. Paid on-site 50% of the total cost. It then took FIVE MONTHS to get the project done. This was after our original sales contact quit/was fired, and 2 project managers quit / were fired. Our project was lost and we almost had to start from scratch. At that point, the doors arrived and were “the wrong size” because measurements weren’t taken properly. Endless amounts of emails, voicemails (that were never answered) and phone calls we finally got the project done. But again, this was only after we had to call the crew back to re-do the installation after they rushed the install.
Then, they had the audacity to chase us every day for 3 days demanding final payment.
The owner has been very quick to blame it on a CRM changeover, but there’s a lot more at play here. It’s disappointing to see a reliable business make such an abrupt turn to incompetent. It also appears they’ve lost their BBB accreditation. What a shame.
