Attempted to scam my grandmother with dementia. Initially refused to cancel the appointment and then challenged me when I told them that she couldn’t consent to anything like this and had a power of attorney. They then stated they wouldn’t accept anymore phone calls from her and did not say they wouldn’t call her back in attempt to not scam her again. Highly irritated and do not trust this company with their lingo.
It was the greatest experience I ever have doing business with house repairs. My representative John Meyers is the greatest of all time. Thank you again John.
I cannot comment about the quality of their work because I didn't get that far with them.
A couple of weeks ago a guy from this company came to check out my roof and gutters. They had called me three times beforehand to make sure that both my wife and I would be there. (I was told their policy is to only do estimates in the evenings, and for both homeowners to be present.) I told them that my wife would be around if we had questions for her, and they said OK. At the time of his visit, my wife and I were both there, but my wife was busy with dinner and my five year old son, who was also there (because, again, it was the evening as they required). The company was also sure to tell me beforehand that the sales rep would be driving a long way to come visit me, as if I am imposing on his time to ask for an estimate and to consider giving his company tens of thousands of dollars.
While I was talking with this gentleman, he asked repeatedly for my wife to come look, both at the roof and to hear him talk while he and I were sitting at the table about to go over the estimate. He insisted that my wife come and sit down with us, which at first he said was to discuss the choice of shingles. My wife was about 20 feet away eating dinner with my son, so I called out to her, "Do you care about the color of the shingles?" "No." So I try to tell this guy that whatever I decide to do will be fine, because it will be. But he keeps pushing for her to join us, apparently oblivious to the fact that they were eating dinner. At one point my son bumped his head and started crying. The sales rep either didn't notice or didn't care, but went on again about wanting my wife to come to the table, having to say this over the cries of my son.
After I make it clear that my wife will not be coming to sit at the table, he "calls his boss," speaks to him for a few minutes, hangs up, and then tells me something to the effect of "Sorry. It's company policy. We'll have to reschedule." During his call with his boss, he mentioned that I had already gotten an estimate from another company. I'm not sure what that had to with any policy about both spouses sitting at the table. On the way out the door, he said something to the effect of 'it's about respecting my time.' He said this without a hint of irony, while my son was still crying in the kitchen. He left without even giving an estimate, saying that someone will call me. Someone never did. But I did not expect them to.
The sales rep said that both spouses need to be present because there have been instances of the wife (say) requesting something halfway through a project that wasn't discussed initially, etc. etc. It's possible that is their reasoning for insisting on it. But forcing both spouses to be present is also known to be a high pressure sales tactic that some companies use to coax people into agreeing to high-dollar jobs on the spot. I would look out for this.
You can also do a quick Google search for Reddit posts about Southern National Roofing to find similar stories of people being strongly pressured to have both spouses at the table, and things going south afterward.
In my opinion, at minimum I would get a second opinion and not agree to anything on the same day as their consultation visit.
