Second use has become cost prohibitive. They are more concerned with squeezing dollars out of items than they are with moving items on to new owners and turning over inventory to keep items out of landfils. This is increasingly evident by their new-ish bourgeoisie section. Prices on many items have quadrupled in the past 5 years. Shame on you, do better.

I’ve had multiple frustrating experiences here but my latest one takes the cake. I called their receiving dept to ask if they would take my shower insert and bathroom materials and they said absolutely. We discussed conditions as well. I then spent an hour to load up my truck and drive over there because I do not live too close and the person there in receiving said they would not take any of my bathroom and shower materials because they just got bathroom materials from an apartment complex that was torn down. I said I just called an hour ago and was told they would certainly take them but they didn’t care. So after this waste of time and gas I just burn my used building materials now.

We come here from time to time, drawn by the creative energy this place sparks. Whether you see the items as junk or hidden gems is really up to you—but for us, it's a treasure hunt. We didn’t find exactly what we were looking for this time, but the thrill of the search and the quirky charm of the place make it worth visiting. There's something about it that fuels our imagination every time.

Second Use is losing its shine for me! They currently have 2 pressure washers in Seattle location. A Greenworks small, portable 1500 psi in decent condition has been there for at least a few weeks, and is priced at $60 (retail new $100, on sale for $84). A Ryobi 2000 PSI in better shape with more bells and whistles is priced at $40 (retail new$180). I asked at customer service why the washer in worse shape with lower retail is 1 and 1/2 times more expensive than the better condition higher retail value. The best answer she could give me was “it comes with 2 wands”. How many wands do you need? I asked if they were for different purposes and she didn’t answer. I really don’t want to get a new pressure washer, but it makes no sense to buy an overpriced at least second hand product. When I could buy a new one for less than $25 more. Couldn’t even come down $20 to match the bright and shiny version. The $40 Ryobi is a brand new arrival, and has at least 3 holds on it. The Greenworks has no demand. MAYBE BECAUSE IT IS OVERPRICED. Geez. So much for reducing consumerism and keeping stuff out of the landfill.

I’ve always loved second use but had a terrible experience with the guy managing the drop off. I imagine they get people just trying to dump garbage—not what was doing. I saved some stuff from our remodel (I could have just put in the dumpster). He took everything except some cabinet drawers. He was totally unhelpful, made me present each item to him to accept or reject. Watch as I struggled getting items from the car while it was down pouring. Keep in mind I was giving this stuff away (he did offer $20 credit). His attitude was terrible. Treat your customers better. Very disappointed. Don’t waste your time donating stuff here.

My spouse took me here, she was looking for an old window frame so she could make an outdoor garden decoration. This place had what she was looking for. You could spend hours here looking through re-purposed material. Place is well organized and the staff offers friendly help if asked.

I really like this place and have bought vinyl and wood windows here and other miscellaneous stuff. Some things seem a bit spendy, especially wood slabs, but no worse than Ballard Reuse.
It's easy to load materials in their pull-through drive and there's plenty of parking in their lot.

We just went for the first time and it was a lot of fun. The staff was helpful and at least 4 people asked if they could help us find anything. There is so much to see we will have to come back soon. They also have a great website.

They do a fabulous job of salvaging architecturally interesting items. If you are looking for something to augment your interior, check here. If you have something unusual that you don't intend to use, they will find it a home. Donations welcome.

Love this place. I use it to find accessories for photo shoots but I would recommend if you need lights, doors or other sundry items for your home. All reclaimed material

Always end up buying $100 bucks worth of stuff beyond what I want there to pick up. Such a variety of used, eclectic, vintage and nautical junk.

Second use is one of the great architectural salvage yards in Seattle. Also offers furniture, architectural details, trim, molding, flooring cabinets you name it you can find it there for your house. Highly recommend if you’re trying to do an economical remodel or any improvements to your home run through their first before you pay full price for probably the same material on their shelves and don’t forget to have doors and windows as well.

This place is great. You can find shelves, chairs, and building materials like doors and counter tops. There's lots of great vintage stuff, too.

Maybe it should be called Second Look because the prices are outrageous. You would think they could turnover the inventory faster, get way more sales and please more customers that will return more often (bc it sb a fun place to ‘thrift’) with better prices. It’s not an antique store nor a museum and they have WAY too much stagnant, boring stuff. Staff is very helpful and friendly tho’!

It is a really cool place.

I didn’t have the best experience though. They refused to sell me a toilet seat off of one of their toilets they were selling. I had asked once, and got told it would “not be worth it” since it cost too much to take the photos for inventory. This didn’t seem like a great reason. I went back to look at the toilets again and many were $35 with or without a seat. I went back to the counter to make the point that my purchase should be enough to cover operating expenses and the place would still profit. The lady I spoke to was gone, so I told a guy there I had already been told no, but why I thought I should be able to buy a seat separately. He was maybe hearing me out until the lady came out from the back and said “didn’t trust what I had to say? Had to ask someone else?” From that moment the mood shifted and the guy basically told me no, and that I could buy the whole toilet if I wanted, but that it probably wouldn’t line up with the economics of my purchase. He explained that someone might also have already seen the toilet and be on the way down to buy it now. Allright.

Didn’t realize the inventory system was holding this place back from doing business like it should be able to. There should be flexibility in a place like this.

I had been to this business a number of years ago and it has changed considerably. It’s more builders supply. Professional salvage dealing with larger contractors doing businessin a streamlined atmosphere as opposed to the haphazard treasure hunt with surprises and DIYers looking for a bargain I prefer the way it was before however from the amount of activity going on, others disagree It’s all in what you’re looking for.

Went for a solid door, they had one, so I got lucky. They have so many cool things from lumber, construction materials. Dressers plus so much more. Some very old. It's worth a drive just to take it all in.

Wide variety of hard-to-find industrial and residential building materials. Wide variety of vintage doors, knobs, and mortise locks. Steel lockers, flammable material lockers, and lab sinks and workstations. Too many unique materials to list. This place is a golden nugget in SODO.

Always a fun time to root around for that odd ball item you need with a little patina. The prices have gone up a lot since the last visit. Not sure it's worth the trip any more. But still a cool place to visit if you are in to reusable vintage materials.

Had some materials to drop off including a $500 OVE shower door with all hardware. They inspected for chips and gladly took it. Very professional but Habitat didn't want to touch it.

Several employees found duties that needed performing right next to me for the entirety of my shopping experience, yet only one of them ever offered assistance. I know shoplifting is a problem, but don't treat customers like criminals

I usually don't go there looking for a specific product unless I already found it and bought it online. The best things I have found there have been totally random surprises and 99.9% of the time are totally awesome.

I have bought a lot of stuff by there from time to time. I also brought a lot of stuff. Mostly the everyone there is pretty cool. Except for the recievers. I brought some perfectly good unused subway tile, and the receiver (who looks like cotton candy randy)would not take them because the box was old. I also brought in a Viking vent hood only to be give a coupon for 15% off. I later received some credit after i found out that they were selling the vent for $400..

Gently used building materials and more. New items come in all of the time so you never know what you will find, unless of course you go to the website and view the new items first They go in and take the good stuff from buildings being demolished, as well as taking donations of various items. Nothing like the Goodwill, so go there and take a look around. One of my favorite places to browse as you never know what you will find.
Update, they have a new section called 2U that has used home furnishings. Obviously the selection is always changing but when I visited everything was very cool, a range of styles leaning heavily to 60's? I would totally furnish my place from here if I were in the market. Prices were very good. Quality stuff, not like Goodwill or other thrift stores.

Pricing questions
1. What is the average roof replacement cost for a residential home?
+-

The average roof replacement cost for a residential home typically ranges from $7,000 to $15,000, depending on factors such as roof size, chosen materials, roof pitch, and labor rates in your area. Premium materials or complex designs may increase the price.

Several factors influence roof repair cost, including the extent of the damage, roof accessibility, material type, labor costs, and whether it’s a general repair or an emergency fix. Minor repairs can start around $150–$400, while major repairs may exceed $1,500.

4. What is the typical roof leak repair cost, and how is it calculated?

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
