Purchasing our new home from River City Custom Homes was an absolute pleasure, and we couldn’t be happier with the entire process. From the first moment we walked into their model home, we were impressed by the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the overall design of the property. The quality of the home was evident, and we knew we were in the right place.

Our experience was made even better by Colin, who was our main point of contact throughout the entire journey. He was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly responsive to all our questions and concerns. February of 2021 we interviewed several custom builders approved through our development and decided on River City due to their price transparency, truly custom build process and craftsmanship.

The lot we picked out presented a challenge for the original blueprint selected, so River City went back to the drawing board and designed for us a custom floor plan that met our requirements and set our house apart from the rest of our neighborhood. The communication was outstanding throughout the building process.

I love that they use an app for all communication, selections and warranty work as well as uploading our pre drywall pictures. Their staff are friendly, highly skilled and professional.

Nearly two years since our build and we have no complaints. My house is a work of art and I appreciate River City for letting me implement my vision through their custom design process. I doubt I will ever move since I am truly in love with our home.

The thing that really separated River City from other builders was their communication before, during, and after our build. Cannot recommend them enough! If you are looking at building, you cannot find anyone better.

Great experience with RCCH. We love our new home and river city has been with us every step of the way, going above and beyond to help us even when they weren’t obligated to do so. RCCH builds truly custom homes, allowing you to pick all the details, not just packages or something. They even let us take the top floor of one blueprint and combine it with the bottom floor of another, creating a completely new floor plan at no extra cost.

But we didn’t know how great our builder was until we moved in and talked to neighbors. Everyone we have talked to has horror stories about their builders and has talked about how difficult their building process was and we have nothing but good things to say about ours.

Some examples of how RCCH is awesome:
- I mentioned I was going to get a home inspector before moving in to make sure everything was good and they recommended (against their best interest) that I wait until the end of the 1 year warranty so the inspector would catch anything that came up
- they were responsive and helpful throughout the build process and even after our 1 year warranty was up. They have continued to help out where possible. Most builders don’t care about you after you sign the paperwork.
- they took pictures of all of the walls in the house before the drywall went up and provided us with those pictures so we would know what the electrical and plumbing looked like forever.

Overall, this is a great company to work with and we would recommend them to anyone!

Our experience with River City Custom Homes was exceptional from start to finish! They had numerous floor plans from which to choose and we found one that included one of our main requirements – a spacious, formal dining room. We were graciously invited to tour an existing home of the plan we were considering and to see the quality of workmanship that we could expect. When we discussed the possibility of moving some doors, converting a porch into an office, and adding built-in shelving for books (among other customizations), they were happy to accommodate us.

RCCH is to be commended for their exceptional communication throughout the entire purchase, planning and building process! It is because of this ongoing communication that we were made to feel like “family” rather than just clients. We highly recommend River City Custom Homes!

We loved working with River City Custom Homes to build our dream house in Powhatan! As a Realtor, I knew tons of builders but chose Danny and his team due to their professionalism mixed with friendliness, their keen aesthetic design, and their transparency when it came to pricing. The team listened to our wants and needs, and expertly guided us to make wise decisions along the way.

We had the unfortunate timing of going under roof just when the pandemic hit in March of 2020, but the team at RCCH pivoted and handled an unknown situation very well. We did have some delays, which is to be expected with new construction and anytime humans are involved in a process. Did we have challenges? Yes, and the team did their best to juggle unknown territory, a demanding customer with OCD, and ultimately delivered a product we love and call home!

We have been in our home for approximately 3 years now and still find support with River City Custom Homes whenever we are in need, whether is be the name of a paint color or asking about the workings of a mechanical item.

Should we ever have the opportunity to build another custom home, I would certainly select RCCH as our builder.

This company does a very good job of presenting a pretty social media facade, but our home building experience with them does not match the image that they present.

Upon closing of our NEW BUILD home we experienced: un-repaired damage to almost all of our cabinetry, stolen cabinetry, missing trim in numerous spots on our flooring, missing oven trim, un-repaired damage to countless windows (Elite Windows), trash including nails and razors covering our roof for MONTHS which subsequently washed into our yard (River City declined to share the Roofing Contractor’s information)…. Nail punctures in our Hardie Plank Siding, poor grout work in the kitchen and primary bathroom (River City declined to provide the Grout Contractor’s information)…. Several items were crooked in our home (mantle, light switches, front door lock, towel bars). There were no screens in any of our windows for months and the screens provided are still ill fitting in several areas.

Our home was dirty and had all of the aforementioned issues at closing - which we were unable to push back due to a rate lock. Within months of closing, several windows in our home were leaking so badly that water was running down our walls (Again, Elite windows) and many of the issues we had at closing were not fixed. The windows were poorly installed (according to several follow up contractors), many are damaged (according to follow up contractors) - and River City nor Elite want to take responsibility for the issues we’ve experienced.

It has been a constant battle to try and get RCCH to fix any of the poor/unfinished work that they promised to in our home. It has been OVER A YEAR since closing and all warranty items still have not been completed by River City or their contractors.

Contractors are still coming to repair items and almost every time somebody is here to “fix,” what was done first - they inform me of what a poor job was done in the first place. Extremely disappointed in the work and craftsmanship of countless items in our new home. The layout of our home is exactly what we wanted and we love the neighborhood - but that does not excuse all of the issues that we’ve experienced with this company.

The most kind an considerate team of professionals. I was stuck on the interstate with a broken down car and Andrew was kind enough to stop, see if I was ok and let me sit in his car in the ac since the heat index was upwards of 100 degrees. I can't thank him enough for his chivalry. I have never used their services but will recommend because of their customer service! Thank you Andrew!
