13 years after having our house built a storm blew some of our shingles off and the entire roof needed replaced due to hail damage and broken seals on the shingles. While replacing the seals the roofers found rotten wood at the bottom of a valley. I removed a soffit panel in that area to see if there was other damage. It was obvious where the leak had been coming in. After completion of the roof we had a hard long rain. I looked in the soffit panel that I removed and could see that there was still a leak. I called the company and they sent a different crew out that told me the first crew shingled the valley wrong. They removed the valley shingles and reworked them. Everything seemed fine until winter. As the snow and ice that was piled up started melting, the leak was back. I again called the roofers and a totally different crew came again. They also told me it was the valley along with some ice shield problem. After completing the work everything seemed fine for a year or so I replaced the soffit. A few years later I noticed as ice was melting there was water around the soffit panel again. I let it go for awhile figuring if it was only when the ice melted it might be okay especially since it appeared nobody was going to be able to repair it. It got worse over time and started coming in after a long rain again. Not knowing who to call I just knew I didn't want the first company back. I figured I may as well try someone local instead of one of these big companies. I decided on Martin roofing, Randy came out to look at the problem and guess what? The valley was done wrong and so was the step flashing . Also with the design of the house which is a bad idea to start with ,some extra flashing would be required to stop the melting ice working its way under the roof. This requires some thinking out of the box which meant some siding needed removed and flashed instead of just nailing down shingles and caulking the cracks which all this other company knew how to do. Randy did all the work himself without waiting for weeks for a siding crew to come in and then coming back. Problem solved there but there was also a leak at our chimney that had been leaking since the house was built. Once again this was a issue with improper flashing from the original roofers and the company that reroofed after the storm. Nail them down and goop the cracks is all the big outfits know how to do. If there is a problem of any kind or a reoccurring problem I highly recommend Martin roofing. Randy also reroofed an entire section of roof at my request. Instead of just a quick rip off of the shingles and replace ,Randy checked all the step flashing along the walls and made adjustments before nailing the new shingles down. The job was totally cleaned up as it was being done and nothing left behind. Price was much less than what I figured it would be especially with all he did involving the siding and adding custom flashing to keep the water away from the problem area to start with. Very satisfied !!! After 23 years of leaks the roof is finally fixed.
