UPDATE: they just called and yelled and cussed at me, and hung up before I could even respond. Not professional, and honestly pretty scary for me to experience.

UPDATE 2: Hi Kaufman Roofing, I appreciate the response. I haven’t been misleading in anyway. Perhaps I would’ve known more of these details if any of that had been explained to me, and I would still like a more cogent explanation for the minimum service charge but aside from that, I’m not attempting to pressure y’all in any way.

I simply had a legitimate question, regarding the costs. When I asked that question, I wasn’t claiming your workers spent less time than you claimed, or implying you didn’t do the job, or anything of the sort. I just wanted to understand the costs, and make sure there was no mistake. Your response was to yell at me, cus me out, and have now accused me of misrepresenting my experience.

Truly, this has been frustrating, difficult, and unprofessional, and my review reflects that.

Regarding the hail damage- I didn’t ask that you suggest I file a claim. I asked that you share the information with me, and I can make the choice from there. Your team did not do that, and since I’ve come to learn that an insurance claim was worth at least looking into.

As with all of these things- this experience wasn’t transparent, nor was it professional, nor was it well communicated, nor was it pleasant.

Overall, this was an increasingly poor experience. The work I needed was very little, but they charged nearly $1k, became irate when I asked about more detail for the costs.

When I asked for an itemized invoice they responded by sending me a past due notification (on the same day they sent the additional invoice - which was months after the work was complete). They repeatedly told me to “read the contract” when I asked for clarity on the costs.

I do not appreciate the extra pressure to pay when I don’t fully understand the costs. I have read the contract and still do not understand how the costs were calculated, as they’re obfuscated by the “minimum service fee.”

I cannot recommend at all.

Im replacing my roof this year, and If I had had a good experience with them, I might have considered giving them business for that.

They also failed to mention hail damage on the roof, which would have been helpful, thorough and communicative.

Now I’m glad I didn’t give any more of my business to them.

I reached out to Kaufman Roofing about roofing for a chicken coop. I wasn't sure if this smaller project was something they would be willing to take on, but I was quickly working with Elijah in the metal shop to sort out the details. Every step from the custom design process to picking up the final product was quick, professional, and friendly. I won't hesitate to work with Kaufman and Elijah on larger projects in the future.

I'll preface this by saying I haven't actually hired Kaufman Roofing *yet* to do any work for me, but based on my interactions with them so far, I'd give them 10 stars for customer service if I could! We recently purchased a home with an inspection contingency, and based on some things we'd seen, we had concerns that there might be an issue with the roof. I contacted several different roofing companies trying to get someone to come out to take a look during our contingency period (which only lasted 7 days). All of the other companies did eventually call me back (days later), but Tom Kaufman called me back basically right away, AND he spent 10 or 15 minutes on the phone with me talking through the issues we were seeing, and giving insight into what the potential causes might be. He asked one of his guys, Chris, to stop by the house the next morning in between other previously scheduled appointments to inspect the roof alongside our home inspector. Chris was so kind on the phone, worked really well with our home inspector, and he had a quote out to us a few hours later. I couldn't be more grateful for their help and working with me on such a tight turnaround. In reading the other great reviews they have here, I can tell I'm not the only one who's been blown away by their customer service and transparency. So, like I said at the beginning of my review, I haven't hired them yet, but based on our interactions so far, I'm looking forward to doing so once we're actually living in our new home! :)

Kaufman Roofing is a top notch company. Everyone I interacted with was very helpful, courteous, and great to deal with. I was impressed with the care the installation team as they protected our home and landscaping to no end. They were professional and worked nonstop. Cleanup was excellent and they did multiple trips around the house to catch everything left. I am totally impressed and happy with Kaufman Roofing and would recommend their team if a roofing project is in your future. I love the color of the shingles as they complement our home. Fantastic job well done.

This company did a fine roofing job. At the same time they acted as the prime contractor for repair of our corbels. The subcontractor they recommended didn't follow lead safety guidelines so I've been picking up lead chips for months. Kauffman helped me for a couple hours and promised to come back but didn't. The subcontractor also didn't use the wood we discussed so it couldn't be painted last fall. This spring we paid for everything in full, but we still can't get Kauffman to get the final painting scheduled. I wouldn't use this company to manage anything beyond roofing and flashing.

Jake has been amazing. Though out all of the frustration that we were having, with our roof being damaged and insurance making it difficult just to move forward with repairs. Jake has been very patience and professional though out the whole process. Even with our insurance delaying (nearly 9 months) the process, Jake was always reaching out to us and giving us recommendations on how to work with our insurance claim department. Thanks, Jake for all your help! Kaufman has a great one with them.

I enjoyed working with Kaufman. From the initial contact to installation to follow-up, every step was easy and everyone was helpful.

Had a great experience with the staff and installers at Kaufman Roofing. They answered my questions promptly and were quick to respond to the few concerns and issues I had. Crew was great and left property way cleaner than it was when they arrived! New roof looks great and my neighbors agree!

We had multiple new roofs replaced last year. We got prices from other contractors (some higher some lower) but felt that the others were more than happy to promise things and have us sign contract but then what…? With multiple projects and unknown weather forcasts in the future as well as potential unknown problems that could arise, I’d be lieing to say I wasn’t concerned and nervous about trying to get it all done. Riley assured me that they could handle it and get everything completed by the end of the year and that they would communicate every step of the way. Not only was Kaufman roofing able to deliver on what they said they would, they went above and beyond. They showed up when they said they would, if some unforseen issue came up I was contacted immediately to figure out which direction to go from there. A couple months after everything was done and the snow came we had an issue that I honestly thought might not be addressed. Shame on me! Riley told me he’d talk to his sheet metal team and figure out a solution to get it resolved and they did, promptly! Then we had another issue with a very small leak after all the rain last week (and they were on it!

In todays world there are a lot of options. Kaufman was very competitive in their pricing to the storm chasing crews running from town to town knocking on doors. Where they totally blew them away was customer service and expectations of response times and scheduling and communication in general. Everyone always got back to me with questions or concerns. Knowing that they are local, in brick & mortar structure is also more reassuring than someone with a PO Box or address 100+ miles away.

Having been a self-employed contractor working with multiple trades and multiple contractors over the years I will say this about Kaufman Roofing, I will be a loyal customer for life based on the exceptional service I received.

Kaufman roofing has been AMAZING. In addition to high quality work, their communication, follow through, professionalism, and kind approach is stellar. We first worked with them for a partial roof replacement and were so pleased that now we're asking them to fix a problem with our siding (that was installed by another company years ago) and address some downspout challenges. After many discouraging interactions with other contractors we finally found Kaufman and will always choose them going forward. We have an old historic building that many wouldn't touch or even bother to come and bid on and Kaufman went out of their way to make sure we could find solutions that were within their scope and would meet our needs. We needed some tricky custom gutter work done in the front as well as replacement of cedar shakes in the back of our building.

We worked with Jon, who was an excellent communicator, always kind, and always professional. We ran into some hiccups, which is inevitable with a building as old as ours, which we were informed of in a timely manner and with options for how to proceed. They were always a step ahead, detail oriented, and always brought things up to us, rather than the other way around. The crew was punctual, tidy, and mindful of our and our neighbors' property from beginning to end. This is a company with integrity who stands by their work, their bids are fair, and we look forward to working with them in the future!

Should we ever need any roof work done again, we would turn to Kaufman without a second thought.

We were in a ridiculous, protracted, 1.5 year battle with our home owners insurance to cover our hail-damaged roof. Kaufman was with us every step of the way and went above and beyond to assist us in responding to some truly absurd requests from our insurer, as well as advocating for us with the insurer. In the end, we got our roof and insurance paid for it. Kaufman was even able to move up the install date when we had a leak (due to the protracted insurance battle...). The roof install was efficient and well done. Jon Lindquist was our main point of contact and he was wonderful and responsive and I would work with him again in a heartbeat.

Quality work and they were crucial in navigating the back and forth with the insurance company. We ended up having a number of questions and Jon was always prompt and helpful in his responses and went the extra mile to make sure the insurance company had exactly what they needed to make corrections or addendums to the project and associated payouts.

I had a great experience working with Riley and others at Kaufman for the roof on my home. They went above and beyond to help me navigate some tricky details and ensure proper insurance coverage.

Last fall, Kaufman Roofing replaced the roofs they had installed on our house and garage in 2011 (we bought the house in 2012) due to damage the roofs received in the hail storm of August 11, 2023. The roof on our 1909 house is high and complicated, with 8 paired gables and 12 steep valleys, 8 of which converge onto 4 compact flat-roofed areas. Similarly, the garage roof has 3 gables, 6 steep valleys and a small horizontal area that receives the runoff from three large sections of shingle roofing. The pre-existing Kaufmann roofs involved the installation of rubber and shingle roofs as well as five customized metal basins. The roofs had done a great job of protecting the house and garage in all harsh weather, including conditions that promoted the occasional formation of ice damns in problematic areas. They were great roofs!

When we were told by our home insurance company that the roofs should be replaced, we immediately contacted Kaufman. There was never a question about who we’d want to do the work. Very few other roofers even bothered knocking on our door or contacting us, probably because they could see what they were up against on our house.

Tom Kaufman stopped by a few weeks after our call, inspected the damage and said they’d do the work, though with all of the storm-damaged roofs in the Twin Cities area, he couldn’t guarantee us a start date and suggested it may even have to wait until summer 2024. Kaufman Roofing knew everything about our existing roof…all we cared about was that they’d recreate their roof solution for our house, not when.

Over the next year, we had intermittent contact with Kaufman Roofing. We asked a few questions as they came up and got prompt answers. In the summer of 2024, Kaufman began working closely with our insurance company to make sure the two were coordinated regarding the degree of custom work the project required as well as what materials would be used (sheet steel, not aluminum).

The project started in early October, 2024. It was an impressive campaign, involving three Kaufman in-house teams: shingles, flat-roof and custom metal. First, the shingles team swarmed the house and the garage, had the old shingle roofs torn off in an afternoon and the new shingles installed by the end of the next day. They covered the ground with tarps to catch debris and later swept the whole yard with magnets. And they all used safety equipment…ropes and harnesses…which helped my nerves. Then they removed the debris…all of it.

The next day the metal group arrived and rebuilt the steel basins on the house and garage. They did everything on site: measured, folded, cut, riveted, soldered and then installed the sheet steel for each unique basin. Their precision was remarkable…they didn’t take the easy road or compromise on anything. Again, these guys aren’t subcontractors…they’re Kaufman employees and they work seamlessly with the other roofing groups.

Over the next two days, the flat-roof team installed a new rubber roof that covers the central part of our house, including flashing around the chimney, numerous roof vents, the outer edges of the entire flat roof itself as well as in areas where secondary roofs intersected with the sides of the house. During this time, the custom steel gutters that were made and painted in the Kaufman metal shop were also installed and everything zipped up. The whole process was remarkable! And the new Kaufman roof has functioned perfectly.

I can’t say enough about our experience with Kaufman Roofing. I could provide specific names of the great employees we encountered, but it was everyone. You can tell it’s a family business. Everyone was kind, patient, informative and did their job effectively and to the customer’s satisfaction. They all took pride in their work and took their roles as representatives of Kaufman Roofing seriously. No matter what type of roof you have, turn to a company with years and years of experience and the resources to do the job right. Particularly if your roof poses challenges like ours.

Highly recommend working with Kaufman. We had a complicated project -- three story roof replacement, flat roof replacement and box gutter replacement, all while adding insulation. It was a big, expensive job and as first time home owners, we needed a lot of guidance.

We first started conversations with Kaufman a year before we actually began our project as we were shopping around for roofers. We knew Kaufman was a reputable company but our contact, Riley, helped make the decision easy. He was extremely communicative with us as well as the other vendors involved. He also helped us liaise with the insurance company throughout. Again, as first time owners having not done this before, he guided us while not overselling in any way.

Once the work began, the crews themselves were professional, friendly, diligent and on-time. One thing to call out is that Kaufman did a great job cleaning up after each phase of the job. We didn't find roofing nails or much debris on the job site.

We were very happy with Kaufman's level of service and would highly recommend.

They did a decent job replacing our roof but look elsewhere for minor repairs. We asked them to cover several gaps where squirrels were able to enter the attic. After two visits it still wasn't done properly, and then they didn't respond for 5 months. Then, when they wanted to collect payment they refused to do what they were supposed to initially without charging for additional hours.

The buying a new roof without the help of insurance is never fun, but working with Kaufman made it pretty seamless. Jake O. was our initial contact and he stayed in touch from the first outreach to project completion. We had several similar bids, but Kaufman was the most transparent and had the least “small print” and hidden costs. They did great work, and I’d recommend them to others as well. We got the newly approved GAF Energy solar shingles and a solar system installed - I thought the companies worked well together to get it all done!

Kaufman Roofing did an excellent job replacing our roof after hail damage. it was a big job and they finished in one long day, cleaning up in the dark with floodlights. They came back to replace the gutters and downspouts. They were professional and addressed our small issues and questions in a timely fashion. We would absolutely use them again.

We had a wonderful experience with this company!! I would highly recommend Kaufman Roofing to anyone in the market for a new roof. We had a lot of roof damage from the Late August 2024 storms. After calling for a quote they were able to get me on the schedule for an estimate visit within a couple of days. We had Riley preform our initial inspection. He was very prompt with his arrival time to the appointment Riley was very friendly and thorough throughout his inspection. He not only took the time to explain what work needed to be done that he could see, but also laid out additional items that may need to be added on with our house being older to keep the roof up to code. It was very much appreciated to have the notice up front about a possible price increase with updated building codes.

Luis was a pleasure to work with as well. Got us scheduled and added to the cancelation list for possible early installation. Our roof was able to be installed 2 weeks earlier due to a cancelation.

Jose and his crew were exceptional. They promptly arrived at 7am and got started working right away. They were all extremely hard working along with very friendly. They were efficient and had the roof off in no time. They were prepared with sub decking that was needed to be updated for our older home. When it was work time they work had and got the job done faster that we had thought it would go. After completion of the installation they cleaned up all the debris and took it with them. I cold called Kaufman Roofing several months ago as I needed a second opinion on my roof to which they came out quickly and did confirm the question I had. When a tree limb impaled my roof on July I4th, putting a hole in the roof but also damaged gutters as well and I knew who I would contact. Kaufman Roofing has been at my side through the entire process, responding immediately the day after the storm, present when the insurance adjusters were on site to evaluate, helped me understand the insurance claim process and always available to answer any question. Kaufman Roofing has demonstrated professionalism, honesty, integrity and is great at communication. I always know where the project is. I was untrusting of roofing companies as I had a prior bad experience with another company and they went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The job was done efficiently and the crew made sure to respect all my plants and they picked up very well. Anytime I had questions I texted or emailed and was responded to promptly. As a sheet metal contractor I have used Kaufman’s metal shop quite a bit. The response and turnaround time for orders is top notch. They are able to handle simple metal profiles as well as very complex profiles. Where Kaufman really shines is their customer service. Whenever there has been an issue, which is few and far between, they are very responsive and helpful to get things resolved. I recommend their metal shop quite a bit to other contractors and homeowners as well.

Another roofing company had examined our roof, and told us we would need repairs from hail and rain damage (separate incidents, therefore requiring two deductibles) in the past. We called Kaufman for a second opinion and bid, and after inspection the rep told us the effects of those storms was not enough to require repair/replacement.

My experience with Kaufman Roofing was very positive. They are professional and clearly communicated throughout the process. There were no issues and their end of job clean up was amazing and impressive!

Kaufman has the most experience and transparency. Other roofing companies seem to hire crews and act as an insurance and language intermediary. Kaufman explains it all clearly and won’t rush you. I am very happy with my roof quality too. They had to redeck areas of my roof, which you don’t know until you pull off, but still got it done in one day.

I want to thank Kaufman Roofing, John Lindquist, Luis Quiroz, Jose Bolainez and the entire roof team and the flat top team for a working with my time frame for the contract. John was patient for over a year, Luis had to deal with all my questions for the crew. Jose and the crew were curious and exacting. The job on my old house looks fantastic. The gardens in my yard and my neighbors' were protected with significant shielding. The crew worked 12 hours on Monday, Jose came back out on Tuesday to check on the finish, and the flat toping on my new garage shingles was complete the next day. Came through the 3 thunderstorms very well this week. Everyone was friendly and highly professional. What a pleasure. I highly recommended this company.

II called for an estimate for a repair, they first asked for some photos on the problem site, after a few days they send a man to take a look. However I never got a real estimate although he said he would send me an email about it, I called again asking for an estimate after 2 weeks, again the answer was that they would send an email estimate soon, sure that I did not get it either! It is a waste of time going through the whole process.

I’ve had great service and experience with Kaufman. They’ve done two projects for me. First was a flat roof section of our home that had originally been installed incorrectly by previous owners and Kaufman replaced the roof to correct standards and it looks great. A year later we had hail damage on a very complex roof (steep roof with a lot of valleys and unique sections). Kaufman came back and walked me through the process to work with our insurance and helped get my claim through with ease. Unlike storm chasing companies they were low pressure (and honest) with their recommendations. The roof replacement was fast and neighbors commented on how great the new roof looks immediately. There were a few items I asked them to adjust after my own inspection and they worked with me to get the punch list done quickly. They took pride in their work. They also had a quality gutter team come and add gutters in areas where we needed them.

I worked with Riley throughout the roof replacement and he was responsive and provided greet customer service. The other team members were always helpful.

Kaufman roofing could not be better. the roofing crew is courteous, went out of their way to accommodate us, they did amazing work and cleaned everything up when they were done. In addition, we had an issue on timing of project with our insurance company and Kaufman roofing moved our project up by weeks (without us even asking!) to make sure there were no issues on reimbursement. I would highly recommend them to anyone that needs a roofing project completed.

Wow, Kaufman Roofing really exceeded my expectations. I phoned Kaufman six months after the May 2023 hail storm and got an estimate. Life got busy and I didn't follow up until five months later. Surprisingly, Kaufmann honored the original bid. Then, when I asked if we could wait to roof until Aug. 2024 so I could be home supervising, they obliged.

A few days before they were scheduled to come out they called and explained that materials would be delivered in a couple of days, they claimed that the work would be done in one day and that they would take care of all the clean up. I expressed concern about the team being careful to not damage my newish siding or to throw down the heavy bundles of shingles too hard on the roof because I just repaired the second floor plaster cracks and painted recently. They assured me that all those concerns would be communicated to the team and the head person would make sure that my requests were honored and that the work would be done well. I blocked off a few days in my calendar and planned to try to work from home, fully expecting to be "on duty". I couldn't have been more wrong. The crew of roughly 8-10 workers arrived at 6:30 AM and carefully and methodically began setting up all the protective plywood & tarps around the perimeter of my home. After speaking with the lead person, who repeated all of the requests I had made on the phone days before, he asked if it would be okay to start a little early. The crew worked carefully and efficiently, respecting all the requests I had made. I watched and listened and much to my surprise, they completed both the house and the garage by 1:30PM! They thoroughly cleaned up all the debris and nails, piled the unused materials and returned my house back to it's original condition before 2PM. All the work and clean up was completed in less than a day! What's more, they picked up all the left-over materials the next day! Zero inconvenience, quality work, and helped negotiate with my insurance company, resulting in a fully paid (minus my deductible), 50- yr warrantied new roof on my old house.

From the first meeting with Riley, the whole process was organized, excellent communication and quality work. The roofers had our home and garage roofed in one day! We are very happy with our new roof and highly recommend Kaufman Roofing.

We switched to Kaufman after a less than awesome experience with another contractor. Even though this meant Kaufman couldn’t be there from the start, they were still able to explain everything from our insurance without issue.

During tear down of our old roof, I was impressed with how much they protected every window and the rest of the house. They worked quickly and kept us in the loop the whole way.

Bad luck, we had unexpected hail on the day of install. Kaufman came back out at our request to revisit and make sure everything was still in place and unaffected. They’ve been responsive to all our questions and are working with us to finish out the insurance piece.

Had Jake from Kaufman come over to do initial bid on the new roof and gutter with gutter covers. He was very knowledgeable and personable. We also received estimates from other companies and they were a little lower than Kaufman, but Jake said they could come down on price a bit which brought it pretty close to the other estimates we received. They got us in early and they were done within 2 days. Roof looks great and the gutters look great! We had some storm damage after the room was completed and contacted Jake again and he came out and surveyed the damage and walked me through what they can do. I will report back on how the process goes through insurance with Kaufman when it’s done. So far so good! I would highly recommend!

After a hail storm last fall, I specifically wanted to work with an established company who didn't go door knocking. Working with Jake and the Kaufman team was so easy. They worked with our insurance company to get the claim approved, added on some extra work we wanted done, and had everything wrapped up quickly. Our roof looks great, was done in one day, and I'm very happy with the results.

I needed some commercial down spouts fabricated for my commercial building, I stopped and was directed to the talk to the guys in the fabrication area in the back - I gave them measurements and described what I wanted and they absolutely KILLED IT they produced exactly whaty I was wanting and the communication was exceptional. The price was cheaper than I expected too.
I also had them create some custom bent diamond plate aluminum post covers for inside my business- that project was done exceptionally well also. My experience working with Kaufman has been absolutely perfect. When it's time to replace my commercial roof there will be only one call - Kaufman Roofing gets the job!
The guys in the Fab shop are a joy to work with and it's obvious that love their job - that reflects well on ownership and management.

Our neighbors had their roof done by Kaufman Roofing in June. Our houses are close together & we have a long driveway with a 70' retaining wall that was new last August. The roofers put their ladders on the top of the cap stones on our retaining wall & dislodged 2 of them & broke a third one in 3 pieces. My husband approached the roofing team to show them the damage & they just looked at him & basically shrugged their shoulders. They also came onto our property & removed some landscaping rocks we had stacked next to our AC unit & they took them to use as weights to hold down their tarps. They did not return them. In my boulevard garden they removed a plant support around one of my bushes, took a pliers & made a hook out of the support leg to help them unlock a vehicle they had locked their keys in. This I discovered the next day because the plant support was not put back in the correct spot & it looked deformed. Why didn't they take the time to straighten the support leg to its original shape?
They had the tools to do it with.
The lack of respect for our property & the damage caused made me wonder what kind of job they did up on our neighbor's roof. I think the roofing teams need to be better informed of proper conduct regarding neighboring properties & if they cause damage they need to own up to it.

Despite the weather, each challenge was meet with great effort and communication. Riley's sales presentation was comprehensive and complete. All phases of our roof replacement were completed on a timely basis. Our home was treated with respect and cleanliness and we would refer Kaufman to any party interested in a new roof.

Kaufman Roofing did a fabulous job installing a new roof on our 3-story steep pitched rood with dormers built in 1901. It was no job for a novice roofer. This was an insurance job because of storm damage, and Kaufman took care of all communications with the insurance company so the claim payment was made in timely manner upon completion. I highly recommend them for roofing jobs.

Kaufman removed and replaced the steep roof on my big garage and screenporch in less than a day! They were done by lunchtime. A big crew of hard workers who protected our gardens and cleaned up after themselves very thoroughly. Much faster than the crews I’ve seen around the neighborhood. The roof looks great and it’s guaranteed.

I want you to know how impressed we are with the work of your roofing crew last Wednesday. They were awesome. I think there must have been 13 guys at my house. They worked like a precision drill team. They arrived at about 6:55 and were at it for the next 10 hours. Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing and nobody was standing around. They took great care to spare my house, lawn and gardens. They kept in contact during the day and helped make sure we got in and out of the house safely. When they were finishing up they cleaned my yard meticulously and left my lawn much neater than when they began. We're super happy with the job they did on the roof. It looks great and we're pleased it was all done in a day.
Secondly, we're also happy with the gutter and downspout install on Friday. I'm sorry that I don't remember the name of the guys who did the work. They asked some questions about some of the installation details before they began and made a couple of good suggestions. They were on the job for about six hours. I'm pleased with the results.
