Kevin with J Hutson is my go-to-guy. He’s been extremely professional and efficient. Last year he repaired my deck and did such a great job. I called him again recently to build a ground platform. He sent a crew who did the job in less than the proposed timeframe! I’m super happy with the quality work and service I’ve received from this company and will certainly continue using them as projects come up.

Jeremy put together our playset and he was amazing!!! Very knowledgeable and one of the first things out of his mouth was that the safety of our children was his number one concern. He knew the proper spacing etc and had clearly put together countless playsets before. We thought about “saving money” and doing it ourselves and THANK GOODNESS we did not. Watching him, even taking everything out of the boxes/packaging was a JOB. He finished our large playset in 2 days, working for hours the second day in the pouring down rain!!! Under a tent that he brought. Jeremy was worth EVERY PENNY and was very impressed by his work ethic.

Jhutson & Company remodeled two bathrooms and installed a 3rd bathroom. They did an excellent job, I will refer them to my friends and family.

Larry Johnson and his two helpers John and Tyler did a fantastic job building a floor and installing my new shed. Not only did they work hard but they were very thorough. I am very happy with the work performed by Mr. Brian Morgan. He came to my home after I struggled installing my bidet and curtain rods. He was quick and told me that this wouldnt take him long at all. Extremely polite, well spoken, and clean. Not only did he hang the curtain rod for me he also put the curtain on. Little extra steps like that, make me want to hire this man again. I highly recommend Mr. Morgan. Thank you.

The workers who came to my home were neatly dressed and very polite. They went to work quickly and the install was completed in under an hour. They cleaned up after themselves. I was pleased with encounter and wouldn't hesitate to contact the company if I had another project.

I needed for them to build an ADA compliant ramp for entry to my house. I would absolutely use them again! They did great work!

I regret to say that my experience with this company was extremely unsatisfactory. I hired them to replace eight window screens in my house, only to find out that the contractor subcontracted the work to someone else who performed the job incorrectly. Moreover, the contractor didn't even bother to check if the screens fit properly, leaving me to discover the issue on my own. Despite my efforts to communicate and address the problem, the contractor failed to rectify the situation promptly. After multiple attempts, the job remained incomplete, requiring the contractor to return for a third day. To make matters worse, upon further inspection, it became apparent that one of the screens lacked necessary hardware, which the contractor was aware of but failed to address. Communication with the contractor was virtually nonexistent, as I constantly had to initiate contact to obtain updates. Additionally, despite my wife being at home during the work, the contractor neglected to provide any information regarding the status of the project, leaving it unfinished. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against hiring this company for any future projects.

Wonderful experience! Brian communicated well throughout the process. He knew what needed to be done for my project and gave me a quote quickly. The team that came to assemble my shed and build a base were friendly and worked diligently until the job was complete. I couldn’t be happier! They saved my daughter and I from lots of tears and probably yelling at each other as we tried to assemble this ourselves. Well worth the money spent to save our relationship…lol!

Brian and his team did an amazing job redoing my deck! I initially contacted Brian about the job and he sent me an estimate and had me on the schedule in a much quicker time than I expected!!! I thought it would take a month for it to all be put in place but the whole process (from contacting them to completing the deck) was about a week! I will definitely use them for future projects!

This is my second time using J Huston and Company. I can barely maintain my composure right now as I go on RAVING about the best customer service ever!!! Terrible 3rd class work. Hired them based on promises of a master carpenter to install a $5000 Anderson door and Transom window. Got Dave and Shane who only showed up on time the first day. Late every other day, Extremely sloppy, disorganized. Only read the installation instructions AFTER they figured out they used screws from the door package in the wrong places, almost discarded the two rubber insulation pieces to join the slider and the stationary door. Did EXTREMELY POOR spackle job around the new door. I have to hire other company to come and make it right. Did less than mediocre job at matching the existing Knockdown on the 4 x 10' section where we removed a single door. I have to hire another company to fix this. Would never, ever HIRE this company again. Left my home and backyard very DIRTY, and dusty from their poor working practices! I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the message. Look Elsewhere!

I needed some basic paint and trim work, some small drywall repairs on a house I had just closed on, had 2 weeks to move in. I used the Home Depot referral service, and was contacted by someone who promised “Level 5, immaculate work and impeccable prep work, skilled professional craftsmen, etc.” Promised that they would get started right away, and it would be done quickly. So I met the guy, we made a deal, and I paid. What I got was the complete opposite. No prepping the old wall surfaces, no primer, no skim coat. Drips and runs everywhere. Uneven coverage and large areas missed entirely. Paint dumped in the bushes, in the trash container, on the driveway. The workers were sketchy, didn’t have the proper tools, not skilled, started late, left early, didn’t finish, the end product was a disgrace, and they left my house a mess. Pretty sure they were stoned the whole time. Left cigar butts in the window sills, paint splatter and overspray on everything. Brand new flooring ruined. I ended up having to move in after being strung along the whole time, and I was not happy. Dealing with these guys was a waste of time and money. Ended up telling them not to return, and spending thousands more cleaning up, fixing everything. You don’t want these people anywhere near your house, TRUST ME!

I hired J Hutson and company to take down a bar out of the kitchen coming into the dining room, repair the drywall , take down tile in my kitchen behind my stove and replace my kitchen countertops with butcher block that I purchased. The first attempt to cut my countertops failed due to they didn't know where to cut the countertop in the right place. They had to replace it with a new countertop due to they messed it up.
They also installed accordian doors in front of laundry area .
Poor workmanship on the doors, poor workman on the drywall, ( patchy spots where it wasn't sanded down smoothly) poor workmanship on the countertop. Sealing around the sink terrible, I had to ask them out a few times to repair things. Finally I said don't come back out I fixed some of the issues my self.
Over all VERY UNSATISFIED with the work. Don't hire them.
I don't know where Larry found these contractors but I was surprised at the lack of workmanship from both contractors he hired. Also his lack of supervision on these projects.

My water heater kept tripping the power box and after a few attempts to identify the issue we identified the wiring was done incorrect by the previous owner. I called on Jay due to his certified electrician status and within moments he was on his way. By the time he arrived it was within 15-20 minutes and he had our water heater re-wired and working like brand new again! I would highly recommend J Hutson & Company with all your needs, especially electrical work.

In middle of project of laying Pargo flooring. Enlarged opening from dinning room to kitchen. Installed appearing stairway in hallway. Installing microwave over stove this week.

Our installer, David, was right on time (even a few minutes early), polite and knowledgeable. This was a straight-forward job, no drama, no hassle. J. Hutson installed new toilet and vanity for my 97-year-old Dad. Did a wonderful job--very professional, quick, and easy to work with!

I am part of an organization called TEAMeffort, where we do mission trips around the Virginia Beach area, and Jay is our contractor this summer. He has helped the team with planning projects (such as roofing, building ramps and decks, and reframing a completely rotted trailer), and guided us in successfully completing all of these. Without his help, our mission work would not be possible. His heart is so kind, and he has so much patience with the groups he works with, and his experience and expertise is also a huge help!

Contacted this company as they were listed as a “preferred” handyman from my Real Estate company. Poor communication from the start mostly via text and email. Finally got the appointment scheduled and the contractor arrived at my home, looked at the work and then said he needed to go to Home Depot and the bank to cash his check. After waiting two hours, he never returned. I reported it to management with minor response other than an “I’m sorry.”

J Hutson & Company recently completed a meter base replacement and panel upgrade at one of our apartment buildings in Norfolk. Chris Carper managed the project and was my direct point of contact. He was excellent at communicating the process, followed up with pictures and information along each step and was always there for any questions along the way. The work site was left clean, price was solid and Chris took full initiative securing the permit, directing Dominion power and finishing the project. Furthermore, the project was completed two weeks ahead of time with no unexpected costs. Typically you do not find this quality of work and timely completion of a project at such a reasonable price - also the online invoice payment system is a huge plus. I highly recommend working with Chris at J Hutson & Company and will be using their services at all our properties from here on out.

I was referred to J Hutson & Company by ProReferral through Home Depot. Chris from J Hutson & Company responded within 30 minutes after me leaving Home Depot at 8pm and had a next-day appointment set up for us with his tradesman, Jimmy, within an hour. Jimmy arrived early after notifying my wife as promised and installed our garbage disposal expeditiously and professionally. He was courteous and left the work site spotlessly clean.

J Hutson sent out a project manager by the name of Craig Weikle. The job was to install a front deck with a handicap rsmp a h a set of stairs. The project was started i sept. It is now going on 4 months and the deck they put up does not meet code. They have failed 4 code iinspections. Twice the have failed for using the wrong apoxy to secure the rebar to the concrete. Now they have to basicly take down the deck raise it almost 5 inches rrelocate the steps and make the ramp longer. Don't know how much of the blame for all this on Jay Hutson or Craig Weikle the progect manager.

Excellent service! Jay was prompt, very professional, worked to get me the best price and he got the repair done quickly. I highly recommend this company!

Jay Hutson has done excellent work for us here at our church on several major building projects. His work is always competent and in conformity to all building codes. I have also referred him to other church members and even my neighbors. They also commend him for his quality work. His work for us includes new parking lot lighting, new auditorium lighting, new baptistry lighting, new ventilation system, and multiple smaller jobs for updates and maintenance needs here at our church property. I wholeheartedly recommend him and will continue to use him here at our church.

We love working with J Hutson, especially Ben and Chris. The whole team is so flexible - I had a crazy week and had to reschedule twice, and they accommodated me both times. Ben installed a toilet, vanity, and even helped me hang some towel rods at no extra charge. We are booking J Hutson again to install our front and back doors.

Our church decided to have a big day in our new auditorium, we had less than a week to prepare and needed to finish our platform. I didn't think it was possible until I called J Hutson and Company. They sent out a crew, and finished the impossible task on time with a price our church could afford.

On another note, one of the employees was taking a break and started to play his music, it was distracting for some of the church members, who were also working on other projects, I asked him to turn it off and immediately with a smile he did. He was kind and helpful. I would certainly do business with this company again.

Had a great experience using J. Hutson and Co. Pricing was very competitive and we couldn't have asked for a more professional and thorough group. They were willing to work around our timeline, which was very tight. Also, the cleanup job afterwards was incredible. If you have children you understand how important it is that random nails and debris not be left in the lawn. They came, finished the job with first time quality, and then left without a trace of evidence they had ever been there.

Overall outstanding service and craftsmanship. I have referred them to others who consistently have the same opinion. Quality workmanship from professional workmen, at a reasonable price. They'll be our first call for future repairs, large or small.

I must admit, I was a little thrown off by some of the other reviews. I decided to use J Hutson because they were very prompt at answering my questions and were reasonable on the price.

My main contact was Chris. I was a little worried at first as most of the contact was via email and texting. This came as a bennifit as I didn't need to leave work for the innital proposal and I had a direct line to him when I had questions concerning start time and finishing time. You don't know how refreshing it was to call/ text a number and get a live person, but I digress.

The work (i had some concrete bricks to patch, a leaky roof, and some window trim replaced) seemed go at productive pace.

Overall I am glad I used them. I used to work in retail so I know you can't please everyone, and I know every job is different, but they did a great job for me.

I will use them again.

Bottom line,

They kept zero of their timelines (no showed 30% of the time with no notification

Refused to reply to my phone calls

Over charged me

Left the under siding of my house exposed for days during a storm with no tarp or covering, which they initially said was bad and was why they didn't start on time

Left trash in my garage and lawn (once again did not show up to pick it up for over two days)

Great company with great customer service! I needed an outlet installed. Ben came on time and was done in less than 30 mins! I'll be using them again.

Not a very good experience with this company.
1. Contractor never came to my house to look at the work. Gave me a quote via text. Didn't get the full scope of what needed to be done.
2. Painter used my ladder and brush to do work
3. Painter left my house after using the wrong paint color. He sent someone else over and he got the wrong color paint on my ceiling.

Work will not be high quality in my experience. I will have to repaint again. If i were to do it again, I would pay more and get a better contractor to do the work.

J Hutson, sent out Tony to do an amazing and fast job on my garage wall, drywall inside the house, and built my pantry with custom shelving. They made sure everything was done right and to my satisfaction, at a very reasonable price. Tony went out of his way to find me the correct 1980's crown molding, chair railing, and floor boards to match my pantry to the rest of the house. I recommend this company and will be using them again in the future.

I was VERY pleased with Ben and how he completed the job I needed done. He found the leak in my roof and successfully repaired it. He even vacuumed and cleaned up after replacing my ceiling which had water damage. I would use J Hutson & Company in the future.
