Hammond Lumber Company - Belfast, ME

Usually a big fan of this location and a semi regular although I live about 35-40 minutes away, but recently every time I enter the store the FIRST thing I see is the same employee eating fast food seemingly as fast as possible at the paint desk, refusing to help their coworkers at the registers when dealing with a line or customers who need assistance, and overall having a bad attitude. This location has many dedicated employees who have helped me before (notably the ladies who work at the front desk) but it's a shame to see such a lazy employee who clearly hates their job tear down the environment!! May visit the Camden location from here on out.

I wasn't sure what I wanted for lumber and the warehouse employees were very patient and helpful in answering my questions. Once I made my list I went inside and worked with a very pleasant counter person who rang me up and arranged delivery. Overall enjoyable experience even though I may have to sell off my oldest child to pay for the lumber (not Hammonds fault)

I have 26 years at homedepot right in boston. It was a pleasure to have a 26 year associate help me at Hammond. Great customer service

It's fine, some people are super helpful others make you feel like you're bothering them. Overall it's a fine store, good selection, but not as expansive as some big box (just due to size of the building). Works great for a small town project store.

8/3- just dealt with Lassie at the pro desk, and I was amazed by the level of attitude I received just trying to buy a few boards, would prefer to avoid that interaction again.

8/4- back for more materials, the staff was super helpful and great! This is the Belfast store we remembered!

I like to deal with a company that wants to deal with me. Hammond lumber offers free delivery and most of the time that very day. The bigger box stores might be a little cheaper with some things, but they also charge for delivery. Actually with the price of gas today...cheaper might just be closer to where you live. My experiences with the store in Belfast has been excellent.

Everyone who works here is all about service. They are never too busy to answer questions and offer really helpful suggestions.

I walked in needing 10 screws and nuts to match one nut I was given for reference. One of the employees not only located them quickly from a large selection that spanned both sides of a full aisle but he also assured I was using the proper type for my project. On my own, I would have easily spent upwards of a half hour and would probably have gotten it wrong. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Just super friendly and helpful service that you don't see anymore. Well done!

Hammond Lumber has recently purchased this facility. The first thing they did right was to keep the employees. Hazel is absolutely the star of the show, and she knows every product in the place better than a lot of contractors. The second thing they did right was to establish Sunday hours, which just enabled me to build my chicken house without having to go to a big store far away. I like to shop near where I live, and keep my money in my community. Thank you Hammond for making this easier.

There was a gentleman in the yard who was especially helpful. Suggested soil & mulch options. His social distancing skills were phenomenal.

Change to 3 stars. Edit- Jim Pooler is a great guy. He did get in touch with me the day after the original review. We were able to talk to the manufacturer and he helped me make these windows work. I received roughly a 20% discount (probably could have been little bit better than 20% but I excepted) and also had my wife come to pick out 2 flower baskets.

I placed my order 3 weeks ago for Replacement windows. It was a challenging process but eventually the order was right. 3weeks go by and I call about my windows. I was told. “Ya we got them In the middle of last week” but never called to tell me or deliver them. So I have them delivered only for them to be new windows not replacement windows (completely different windows). I’m now way past when I should be complete with the job. I had to reinstall the old windows bc the truck with the wrong windows came at 430 in the afternoon after windows were already removed. Today I was promised a call from a manager or someone to tell me my next steps and didn’t even get the phone call. My order is paid in full. My suggestion is to go elsewhere for your windows. Home Depot and Lowe’s offer similar products for cheaper.

I've been going here for over 20 years now. Always friendly staff that are happy to help and they offer a good selection of hardware and building supplies. They also offer many residential and commercial building services.

I meant to give four stars. The store is very clean, very helpful and has pretty much everything you need for the house owner to-do list.

I'm not sure if service isn't great because I'm a woman or because I didn't know exactly what I needed or both. But as a new home owner, there have been many learning opportunities for me. What I learned today was that Hammond isn't the place to go when you need help finding the right thing to fix your home.
