Wilderness Construction just finished a gorgeous remodel of our kitchen/dining room. I have been with Wilderness for about 20 years. This company has done many projects in our home. Their motto should be “work done right, the first time”!

Work crew was congenial, knowledgeable, and adaptable to our requests for additional project work.

Jason, Steve and Luke are keeping my house and property running smoothly. This time I had a few tiny projects instead of my usual big adventures. I was very satisfied.

I wanted to get rid of an old bathtub and install a walk in shower: Steve and the whole crew were professional, detail oriented, and great communicators.

They also took great care to minimize mess and clean up after themselves.

When I had any questions, a quick text, call, or email resolved it quickly.

I plan on hiring them for more projects.

We had Wilderness Construction put in some Pella windows for us, after bad experiences with the big name window companies in the area.

Zach and his crew were amazing! They truly treated our home as I would treat a grandparents. The job took a few days, and every night the inside and outside were left with barely any evidence of their work. That work was also impeccable, high end seam work and caulking inside and out.

Most of all, I appreciated the open communication. Zach always responded to emails and text messages we sent and it is hard to be mad about a job finished ahead of schedule. We even added a new door, that we purchased from Home Depot, to the job.

We have several more improvements we are thinking about and Wilderness Construction will be high on our list to do them.

Our experience with wilderness construction was seamless from start to finish. Of course, with any construction project there were a few changes that had to happen, but they handled those changes professionally. They also made sure that the cost was more than fair and in my favor for those changes. They will be my first call for any projects that I have in the future.

We were looking to have a composite deck built and were provided several referrals. I have experience with construction and built our previous deck, so wanted someone I thought could perform at a high level and stay on schedule. After meeting with four different contractors we chose Wilderness Construction based on our initial positive discussions and confidence that they could get the project done quickly. The beginning stages were positive and Steve was very responsive and a pleasure to work with. The framing and permit process also went well. But the remainder of the process was an absolute nightmare. The first three photos are examples of how they left the deck after rushing to get the job done the first time. Scratches over 4-5 feet long, several gouges, completely dirty. I work from home and witnessed several of the workers tossing the composite decking across the frame many times, so I wasn't all that surprised. We had composite decking before and these were clearly not the normal scratches caused by use...this was clearly from their poor quality of install. I was obviously not pleased and reached out to Steve to rectify. After some back and forth he and the company agreed that the decking was installed poorly and not up to their expectation. In fact the decking was so bad they actually agreed to remove every deck board and start over. The second time around they did a better job overall and actually put a little effort into installing the boards. They called me out to have me give my approval and I mentioned overall it looked much better, but the section they were currently working on had way too big of gaps (measured 1/2" instead of the 1/8" spacers they were supposedly using) and asked if they could please fix that. They indicated they would, but then two hours later the trucks peeled out of here without addressing. They also miscut the stair treads and tried to glue in a little piece in several spots (they didn't do this the first time so this was clearly not correct). The last two photos show the large gaps and the miscut. We originally referred them to other people but quickly withdrew that, and the company that referred us to them also strongly agreed with our opinion and indicated that they would no longer be referring. If you're looking to have a composite deck built please save yourself the money, frustration and poor quality of work and go elsewhere.

I have a two-story over a walkout basement and I hired WC (Dan Schmidt) to replace trim work, mostly on my cosmetic chimney. Dan rented the wrong lift (too heavy to navigate around my house), which got buried in my yard, so the workmen had to complete most of the work using ladders. After 6 weeks, and some wrangling to actually complete the job (they damaged my roof in two places), Dan overcharged me (including billing me $700 for 7 sheets of OSB, which costs $17.90 per sheet at Home Depot). After the job was completed, Dan immediately took back about 1/4 of the materials that I paid for up front (including some of the OSB), claiming he didn’t charge me for them. I am a bit inexperienced at hiring for home repairs (I’m a DIY guy, and could have done the same job for 1/4 what they were ‘estimating’); but, I believed they were going to come in ‘under estimate’ given the amount of work they completed. In my opinion, ‘buyer beware’: you WILL be overcharged by this company.

I just want to say how pleased I am with the service and projects put together for me by Zach at Wilderness Construction. He helped me plan the projects and suggested details that I wouldn’t have thought of. I chose to have half screened and half open with a roof over the whole project. Zach was supportive and always available for consultation either in person, by email or text. The construction team was great. They literally worked thru snow, rain and sunshine. They were on time to get started in the morning and did an outstanding job on the construction. I love it so much. Zach kept me updated on the progress each step of the way. They gave the front porch a make over and it looks lovely and safe. This is the second time I’ve used Wilderness Construction and would not hesitate to ask them to do a job for me in the future.

We highly recommend Wilderness Construction for any of your home remodeling needs. We had them build a beautiful covering over our patio that turned out wonderful! Working with them start to finish was a great experience. They are professional, neat and efficient offering quality work. We have used Wilderness Construction at our previous home as well for a porch, roof and entry doors. We couldn’t be happier with their work and service, we will continue to be repeat customers.

We could not be happier with the end result of our exterior home remodel project. Zach was friendly and knowledgeable at our initial meeting, and quickly got us a quote for the scope of work. When we decided that we really wanted fiberglass windows (over vinyl), he was able to adjust the quote quickly to give us an update on cost. He was honest with the timeframe of when each step of the process would take place based on manufacturing timelines. And when we were thrown some curveballs in terms of existing house condition/construction, he shifted the focus to make sure that the house was ready for the next step in the process. Due to situations beyond anyone's control, the overall job took a bit longer than any of us expected. But Zach and the team at Wilderness always worked to ensure that we were not inconvenienced more than was absolutely necessary (i.e. dumpster in the driveway during demo). Our house looks amazing, the combination of Hardie Board siding and Pella Fiberglass windows took our 1960's colonial from dated to modern. I recommend Wilderness for anyone interested in updating the look of their home.

Had a great experience with Steve from Wilderness Construction. Had a somewhat complicated project with 3 other companies involved. Steve was always accommodating to work with the others and created a strong sense of trust that he would figure out how to get it all done. We love the end product and would definitely use Wilderness Construction again.

Wilderness Construction is simply the best and most professional construction company I have ever used. Ours was a somewhat complicated kitchen remodelling project that required adding new ductwork with complicated duct routing thru the roof so we could add a new venting cooktop hood. They kept every commitment they made to the letter, showed up exactly when they promised, and the final result was superb. Every night they left our home immaculately clean. Our "plan A" didn't work because of unanticipated beams blocking our original duct route, and they came up with an every better plan and throughout the project every decision they had to make was intelligent and improved the final result. They are one of the few construction companies I have ever used that I learned to fully trust having them do work even when I wasn't home as I ended up fully knowing that they would make great decisions.

They did solid work on my siding and gutters. Had some disagreements with the sales person along the way, but the owner reached out directly and we were able to work it out, and at the end of the day I was very pleased with the project and the price.

Me and my company have partnered up with Wilderness Construction on several projects to date. The thing we love most about Wilderness is the people. Employees and clients! It is a stress free, enjoyable, and comfortable environment that allows everyone involved to do their thing at the highest professional level. I imagine that they attract the best types of clientele because of who wilderness is at their core, which is a friendly, personable, open and honest company. I will always recommend them to anyone in the Ann Arbor area.

Although some of the work was excellent, a problem with my granite has not been resolved more than 2 years after installation despite repeated requests by me and reassurances by the company. Also, they do not take responsibility for problems with the construction expecting me to fix these by cutting the improperly installed concrete as well as the posts that rest on the concrete myself. They have some very skilled workers, but the company does not care about me or my job at all.

Honest, hardworking, trustworthy, and tidy crew. The bid visit and proposal with Steve was pleasant and straight forward with fair pricing. The project at my house had one skilled carpenter doing most of the work - he kept me updated on a daily basis and made significant progress each workday. I requested one minor extra task in the middle of the project that the team handled with ease. I would recommend this company for your project.

We had a new Provia door installed and some exterior siding replaced. Lance was great to work with, as he is not pushy yet knowledgeable. Door installation crew was very professional. A few issues on manufacturers end were addressed and communication was good. We will see how long-lasting the products are, but experience has been good so far.

Wilderness Contractors installed new granite countertops and tile backsplash in my kitchen. The workers were efficient, cordial and thoughtful. The work is excellent and I am very pleased.

Both my husband and I were thrilled to have worked with Wilderness Construction to help with our renovation project! They are knowledgeable, fast, communicative and reliable. We have a 1930's home with a lot of character and Jason and Mark came up with a plan that helped us to maintain the character of our home while widening the opening between the kitchen and our living room. It was a complicated process and Mark executed the project beautifully. We wanted to have a walk in shower for my ageing Mother.
Lance came to my Mothers home to discuss options that would help her stay safe . He was very courteous and respectful.
I would highly recommend this company to others wishing to keep their senior parents with medical disabilities safe at home.
Lance went to the office to research all the possibilities for her installation.
Before we could finalize the project her health declined and she needed nursing home care..

Our roof and 7 skylights were in desperate need of replacement. We went with Wilderness because they were very thorough in their assessment and fair in their pricing. Dan explained each step of the process and when the work was done, did a quality and clean up inspection on everything. We couldn't be happier with the results! Thanks to everyone on the team. What a hard working group of professionals!

Worst experience as a homeowner I have ever had!
After complete roof was replaced, I had a severe water leak where the roof meets the gutter. The man they sent out (Dan) to repair was incompetent. I live in a two story home. He didnt bring a ladder on the first visit. All talk no action. He was upset i was angry. Who wouldnt be? And furthermore, what true construction guy cant take it? He also took 3 trips to put on a down spout elbow.Really? First one was dark brown instead of white, he left the old one lay in my flower beds. Second one was white, but he left the big sticker on it. Looks tacky. No attention to detail.This man needs a job in another line of work. Called and asked for the owner Jason numerous times. He has yet to call me.i wouldnt hire this company to take out my trash.

After final walk through. Everything was great. The roof looks great, the team was professional and caring to protecting my house, plus the clean up was excellent. Will recommend and use in the future.

Very nice sales person but after I paid for drawings they got busy and never got back to us which was truly frustrating. When I finally was able to reach sales person and asked for my money back he said 'it doesn't work that way" and that he had spent time looking at my job. Basically I ended up paying over $400.00 for a quote (which they advertise as free) and then being blown off for months. I called and left a message for the owner but he never even phoned back. We had already secured the loan and were ready to go when they just disappeared. They had a lot of excuses as to why but continued to not call when they said they would. As of today we are out money for drawings that we never received, behind in our plans and having to decide if we want to go to small claims court or not to recover the money they took for drawings that they never finished. We were ripped off.

I had Dan come out to assess the condition of my 21 year old roof. After his walk around, he suggested waiting a year or so for the roof on the main part of the house and just re-roof the flatter section over my sun-room. His suggestion made sense and I liked his idea on the type of roof to install.
Roof was replaced today on the sun-room and the crew showed up on time and did the job thoroughly. They prepped the area and cleaned up afterward. The crew foreman showed me some pix of the roof so I could see what they had done. Well it just rained for the past few hours so I'm confident in this review that they did a great job on that roof!!

Worked with us to get the job done piecemeal to get done quickly. Very open lines of prompt communication with Lance. Well done job on decades-old hardwood floors that were almost beyond repair and they made it look as good as new.

I wrote down this company's information after seeing one of their trucks, as we are in the market for some renovations... I decided not to call after the driver of the truck threw his cigarette butt out of his window during some slow traffic on US-23. Please don't litter up our community!

Wilderness construction completed a window installation for our home in 2015 and could not have been more professional, friendly, and skilled. We were so impressed with the work that they did!

Wilderness Construction has worked with me on several projects on my Old West Side Ann Arbor home -- from mid-size ones like replacing a deck and remodeling my bathroom, to smaller such as tuck pointing a chimney, installing new basement windows and other repairs. Every job they have done over 7 years I have worked with them has been performed well and on time -- with great results! Working with Lance Rowe has been a joy; I highly recommend Wilderness Construction for jobs large and small!

I used Wilderness Construction to repair my roof and do multiple minor repairs and tweaks in a new home I bought 6 months ago. Jason actually walked me back from having to replace the whole roof and I was really impressed by that, because I was was prepared to spend big bucks redoing the entire roof. He said they would be happy to do it but the roof was good for at least 7 more years and why would I spend the money. Big fan and was absolutely impressed by Jason and his entire team.

Incredibly professional, courteous, and did great work. Responsive, helpful. Couldn't have had a better experience. Will definitely use them again.

Just another Shady company passing off as a construction company. Could definitely benefit from customer service training and Hr management. Find some other guys your money spent with them will only add to your headaches. Wish i could have posted a better review but beware if you are to deal with them
