We received a referral for Weddle & Sons and recently had them replace our roof. Initially, Scott was easy to work with and we were happy with the communication and price of the job.
Prior to work beginning, we were notified the foreman would knock on the door between 7 and 7:30am to collect payment and answer any questions. Work began and no one came to our door - after calling the office we were advised that the foreman was stuck at another job and someone would come speak to us shortly. No one came to the door until after 8:30 - and only because my dog had gotten out due to the gate being left open, which was one of the things I had planned to discuss with the foreman.
A few hours into the job, I got a knock at my door asking if I had an HVAC professional I could call out. Long story short, Weddle & Sons failed to protect my AC unit, threw roofing material down onto the unit, and destroyed it completely. I do appreciate that the crew immediately took responsibility for what happened and we were assured that a new unit would be paid for. We sent an invoice for the work, were advised a more detailed invoice was needed, and immediately provided it. It took over 24 hours to hear back - and that the company was disputing to pay approximately $1,000 for an indoor coil as the damage was done outside the home. The AC unit cannot function without the coil. Further, we had to replace our furnace to be compatible with the new AC, which was not something I disclosed to Weddle & Sons or asked for financial assistance with - even though it was a large, unexpected expense caused by their negligence. It was incredibly frustrating to have them disputing one small piece of the job when I was taking the bulk of the expense on myself. I called the office and left a message, in addition to FOUR emails asking Karla to call me immediately to discuss, or have her manager call. I never received any phone call. Instead, I got an email a few hours later that Weddle & Sons would "eat the cost" of the coil.
At this point, the AC was damaged on a Tuesday, invoices provided Thursday. Weddle & Sons did not approve the invoice until Saturday and was unable to release a check until the following Monday. The delay in approving and releasing funds led to a delay in obtaining the new AC unit, which went on backorder. By the time our new unit was installed, we were without AC for 2 weeks. We have an infant and toddler in the house, and outdoor temperatures have been in the upper 90s. There has been a complete lack of concern from Weddle & Sons for the safety of our family caused by their negligence. While Scott has reached out to us and apologized multiple times, we have received zero communication from anyone else. When the foreman came for final inspection, he hadn't even been told what happened.
Communication was poor through the entire project. We had to call the office to confirm if work was done, because no one came to notify us, and they left materials on our lawn for 2 days before confirming they were done. After all of this, I cannot recommend working with Weddle & Sons. I understand that accidents happen and appreciate that the right thing was ultimately done, but the lack of concern and communication have left a poor taste in my mouth. Ultimately, we have have reached an acceptable solution for all parties and the issue has been resolved.
