Oh my goodness is Mr. Wingenbach thorough and helpful! We originally had our last home inspection 10 years ago with his father who was amazing. Joe, like his dad, has an old school work ethic and turn-over-every stone approach. Joe has modernized it with using a tablet, keeping up to date with modern builds and standards, and also just like his dad greatly cared to make sure you understood the issues revealed in your inspection. I learned more about the infrastructure of my home than I expected. Areas needing to be addressed by my builder are clearly stated, organized,, and provide a prioritized roadmap for the builder to address. This inspection was well worth the fee.

It is no surprise that Joe has so many five-star reviews on his site. His competence and professionalism are top-notch. But there is another aspect to Joe that is also important to note – he is simply a good person that you can trust. Joe performed the inspection of our new home in Berryville, which is approximately 7,000 square feet in size, plus a 2,600 square foot detached workshop. The inspection took six and a half hours to complete and resulted in a 100-page detailed report. He was patient, answered all my questions, and educated me on many aspects of the home. The house was bigger than Joe realized when he provided the initial quote, and even though I offered to pay him more for his services several times, he would not accept more money for the inspection. He wanted to honor the original agreement and, by doing so, earned my respect 100%. I highly recommend Virginia Dwelling!

The inspection was performed with full professionalism and tremendous attention to detail. Every small corner and all installations were checked, no cutting corners. Joe was outstanding in every aspect you could be looking for in an inspector. I've heard a lot of inspectors like to do things solo and have no one to "impede" their workflow, however Joe encouraged us to come during the inspection and hang around as he wen't through.

No stone was left un-turned with Joe. The inspection took between 3-4 hours (this depends on sq ft of said house of course) and he is 100% professional throughout the entire process. He doesn't mind questions while doing the initial inspection and even sets time aside after his job is complete to answer any questions you may have about what was brought up during the inspection and gives you insight of what to expect on the official report. Even the report itself he had typed up within 24 hours in a easy-to-understand layout/breakdown.

Our first house fell through unfortunately, as the inspection showed many hidden flaws which we thanked Joe for. If not for him it was potential that we could've bought into a money pit. Since this happened we used his services for the second house we liked and couldn't be happier with both the house and his professional services once more.

If you need an inspector...GO JOE!

My client had to do an extension on the inspection contingency to be able to accommodate to his schedule. Unfortunately, he cancelled a few days prior to the inspection during the holidays. Now my client is running around trying to find an inspector. He is a good guy but this is just not very professional. Very disappointing. Will not recommend.

Within the first 60 seconds of meeting Joseph, you will realize you are dealing with the best of the best. He conducted an extremely thorough inspection for my wife and I’s first home purchase. He took the time to explain everything he was doing and looking for. His expertise simply speaks for itself. He truly has a passion for what he does and you will have a wonderful experience during the inspection.

During the inspection, he noticed the water was turned off. He said it would likely be on the next day around noon and that he would stop by and check out the pipes the following day (wow!) At the time, my wife and I lived over an hour away and coming back out the next day didn’t work for our schedule as we have a very young son and two full time jobs. Joseph visited the house the next day and discovered that a huge leak had sprung loose overnight. He cut off the supply line and took pictures and documented what had happened. He contacted our realtor who got on the leak immediately. His willingness to go above and beyond for us literally saved our home from being completely flooded.

His inspection report was the most detailed and informative that I have ever seen. I own a contracting company and read these reports regularly for my own customers and Joseph’s was absolutely superb.

Joe was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, courteous, and thorough. He identified several areas of construction on the house that showed where a master craftsman had done the work (roofing, tiling, windows, etc...) and could identify superior workmanship AND explain why it was superior. We contacted Virginia Dwelling to conduct a home inspection for a property in Harrisonburg based on their reputation and value for the cost. Joe, the owner, was very responsive and our inspection was conducted yesterday.

The inspection itself, exterior and interior, lasted almost three hours and was comprehensive. My wife and I were present and were impressed with the professionalism and thoroughness Joe exhibited the entire time. We sat down with Joe, following the inspection, and he provided us with a synopsis of key findings.

We received the report the same evening and it was extremely well documented and contained more than 100 pictures organized by system (plumbing, electric, etc.) inside and outside the home. The summary section identified priority areas and indicated the time frame in which the work should be completed. In addition, the report contained recall information on all appliances and the HVAC system.

We’ve had several home inspections and Virginia Dwelling is by far our best experience. I recommend them highly for anyone needing a home inspection.

Highly recommended for home inspections and design work! Joe and Caroline went above and beyond for us when we were purchasing our home. Joe was even able to find a recall of a stovetop, which we immediately replaced once we moved in. We were buying a smaller home, and Caroline helped design and pick out a table and bench set, which has been invaluable in our little eat-in kitchen. Great work!

Don't typically write reviews, but was so impressed with Joe . He's very knowledgeable, very thorough. He arrived on time, explained the process before we started, gave clear answers to all my questions, and consistently handled himself in a professional manner. The report (all 84 pages) was ready within 24 hours and he's responded to several follow-up questions, usually within the day. You may find people as good, hard to imagine anyone better.

Joe spent a great deal of time discussing the ins-and-outs of the home we were purchasing. He made himself available for multiple phone calls after the inspection was complete so that he could explain the results in detail. Our house came back with high radon levels, and Joe was able to walk us through exactly what we needed to do and who to contact.
