We hired Virginia Deck Builders to install a 5' x 6' landing with steps at our back door. They did a beautiful job. We worked with Hernan who was very responsive and patient with our many questions. He was knowledgeable and helped us to stay within our budget. His crew are talented and professional. We requested latticework and a door to access underneath the landing and their craftsmanship exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend hiring Virginia Deck Builders for your deck/landing needs. Excellent company!

Great company from start to finish. They worked with me to design my perfect deck and the crew was meticulous in all the technical details of its construction. The owner was responsive to my inquiries and continually checked on his crew’s work. He handled everything from coordinating a dumpster for the debris of my old deck, to coordinating the applicable inspections with the country as the deck building progressed. This company is working without a valid VA license and does not have a registered agent. So, this company is working illegally.

We currently have a judgment against them for $4k+, due to breach of contract for failing to complete the work. To make matters worse, they did a shoddy job on the roof of the new porch, and now that they have disappeared, we can't even get them to fix it and have to pay a new company.

I hate to give a poor review, but this has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with a contractor. Do not recommend at all. Signed a contract and gave a down payment in March. Contract said they’d be done by July at the latest. It’s October and we still don’t even have a permit for a screened in porch. Communication has been horrible. Because they’re in breach of contract they said they’d refund and we could part ways. 10 business days later they still haven’t repaid and have not responded to multiple texts and calls.

UPDATE: My full down payment was reimbursed but it took getting the DLCP involved to do so. Everyone at the company was civil, but communication was very difficult. I would still not recommend this company if you’re in DC. It seems I am not the only customer that had this experience.

Nikolay and his team did an excellent job at installing a large 400+ square foot deck off the back of our home. He even addressed unforeseen issues once he demolished the old 55-year-old deck without hesitation (as some contractors tend push back). The finished product was very well built and followed the Fairfax County code requirements. He didn't skimp on the process, and we are very pleased with the final product!

After not getting responses from other deck repair companies, we decided to reach out to VA Deck Builders to fix a hole in our deck. They were incredibly responsive and got our deck fixed the day after getting us a quote. The crew was quick and efficient. They did quality work at a fair price. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for deck repair.

When asked for a quote, this company was the first to answer and send someone knowledgeable, that took measures and pictures, in order to have an accurate proposal. A second company came, took a look, and went away. A third didn't offer a quote when they knew we were getting multiple quotes, a fourth asked for approximate measures and pictures.

I don't select a company for the cheapest quote, but it is also about feeling trust, knowledge, making things accurate. Jeff (unfortunately not working for them anymore) was able to bring everything to the table, mostly because of him that I signed with Virginia Deck Builders.

The service was executed as discussed, and detailed in the agreement. A few issues were found when finished, but those were promptly fixed.

When closing the agreement, I was enrolled to a system called Buildertrend, where I would see the progress (I live abroad, so it would have been nice), but unfortunately it wasn't updated at any time.

The agreement was signed in April 2023, work was expected to start in up to 2 months, it started after 3.5 months, mostly due to Virginia county permit approval. Once the approval was done, work was executed in a few days. Old deck was taken down, the new one installed.

Communication with Virginia Deck Builders was a bit rough and hard to get answers, especially with the delay, and because of the fact that I paid 50% upfront, but overall I would say it was a fair price (not the cheapest), and well executed, so I would recommend them.

Called multiple times to follow up no response. Had someone come out to give me quote they took measurements, discussed options but never submitted anything that I could review or official. Had to find someone else to complete the project. Horribly run company that lacks any and all customers service. Do not use.

Really happy with how my deck turned out. Permit to build took quite a while but work stated immediately once it was approved. Old deck tear down and new deck construction was done in about a week. The crew was very hard working and polite on the few occasions that I bothered them. Neighbors got a new deck from another company a few weeks back and the quality is just not the same as mine. I shopped around and got a few quotes. Nick had the right price and based on the outcome I got a great deck. Very happy to be back on my deck and (safely) playing, grilling, and relaxing.

They were fantastic about coming up with a plan that the county would approve - work was done quickly and professionally. The deck is gorgeous.

While we ultimately did not go with Virginia Deck Builders for our project, we had a great experience working with Trey in the initial "education" phases and obtaining estimates. Trey was very thorough, detailed, and if he didn't have the answer to my question, he sought it elsewhere and followed back up promptly. Would consider using them for future projects!

VDB did a great job resurfacing our deck with Trex. They were incredibly responsive, came in with a competitive quote, and did beautiful work!

We used Virginia Deck Builders to have our wooden deck re-decked and all the railings replaced. The work quality is top-notch and we have recommended them to all our neighbors. The work was done quickly and is of high quality. They re-leveled the deck and the attention to detail is most impressive. Beveled the posts and nice finishing on the edges. Highly recommended!

Had a great experience with Virginia Deck Builders and would highly recommend them. We had our old wood deck removed and replaced with a new Trex deck that is 3x the size of the old one. Nikolay provided great suggestions on design and deck layout. He was professional and responsive throughout the entire process. He also provided the deck drawings and info needed by the HOA timely and took care of the Fairfax County permit. The work was scheduled just a few days after the permit was in, and the build all went smoothly from there. This was probably the most pleasant construction experience I've ever had - it required no handholding, or drama, and we now have the best deck in the community. Virginia Deck Builders did a great job on our back deck refacing! It was easy to book an estimation appointment, Trey did a great job of explaining his overall impression about the key features of the job, and they worked with us to get the estimate to our target price without skimping on the quality of the product.

The project took two days, and the crew was timely and professional. They even managed to steer clear of our freshly-seeded lawn! The quality of the workmanship is excellent-- picture frame edging, nicely mitered edges on steps, etc. We needed two access points to get to garden plumbing, and they are inconspicuous and well-finished. Just couldn't be happier!

Nikolay and his team did an excellent job of desiging and building a Trex deck for us. Our project had some complications with doors, level changes, etc., and the team handled all of them perfectly. Their quality and attention to detail is truly top notch. They made some design recommendations to me that I never thought of, and all of them turned out to be spot on. Their framing work exceeds the standard, so it gives me great confidence that the deck will be very sturdy and last for a long time. It takes some time to get on their construction calendar, but it is definitely well worth the wait for a top quality job.

We had a covered porch installed in the side of our house. The porch was well built and looks good. Communication in the beginning was difficult but in the end the project was well done and we are happy with it.

We had to get our deck taken care since it had been awhile since we got re-stained. The deck was splintering, there were loose nails, and some bad boards. We contacted Nickolay and they quickly came out and did an estimate. His estimate was a very good price and then we scheduled time for his team to come.

Nikolay was very good with coming up with a screened porch/deck design and stone patio design to our specifications. The deck was built solidly and with thought to netting on the bottom to keep the mosquitos out. They custom added a swinging dog door and custom ramp for the dogs. When the stain didn't come out as expected, he made it right. He really stands behind the quality of his work. I would use them again.

We couldn't be happier with Virginia Deck Builders. We looked at several options and where we needed railing was a little complicated with several steps and turns and also needed a gate that wasn't traditional in size. Nick was a pleasure to work with and all of his work was custom for our project. They brought all the materials to our home and built each section perfectly to fit our needs. It's so beautiful! We have other things we want to do in the next year which includes a pergola and an outdoor kitchen area and we will absolutely use them and refer any other friends and family to them as well.

His quote seemed very fair and he said they could have the new 300sq. ft. deck built by the end of the following week. This included removing an old deck and hot tub. Communication was great (one of the main reasons why I chose them), price was very competitive, and they were transparent with all costs. The crew worked hard and they finished in about 2 weeks despite snow and frigid weather. There were a couple minor issues that Nikolas responded to and resolved quickly. Would NOT recommend this company unless you like to be ignored and treated as if you don't exist. Made appointment on 02 Oct and on 9 Nov 20 they have yet to provide an estimate or return my calls. Very difficult to get through to talk with a person and when a voice mail option is provided they don't even identify who they are, it is a generic recording. Very unprofessional and shady. I called four different times asking for my estimate and it was the same song and dance how Nikolay would contact me and he never has. Go elsewhere like me where another company actually treats you like a customer, you will be glad you did.
