Expert Handyman & Remodeling

So, confused why my review from September last year, 2023, is not showing. Horrible experience with door replacement and now, when I went to clean the transom above one of the doors I see why it is foggy. The glass is cracked and only could have been done when the doors were replaced. Consistent problems with that door since it was installed. I hope this post doesn't disappear as well. Issues with quality and customer service. Avoid!

AVOID! They plumbed my new bath (after some unnecessarily complicated communications) last year but this week the ceiling directly below their work was wet again. I’ve been calling and emailing them for over two weeks and they are ignoring me. They keep saying ‘I’ll get someone to call you back right away’ and they never do.

I just used Expert Handyman for drywall repair, painting the interior of my condo, and replacing a toilet. Their staff was responsive and professional throughout the entire process. The estimate/scheduling/billing team was amazing. The team that did the work in my unit was on time on day 1, finished the work early without a single issue, and the final cost was right below the estimate. My unit looks brand new!

Wow, it’s not often that people in handyman and remodeling industry show up early and leave the place cleaner than they found it! Not only that, but I was given a demonstration as to the best way to prevent, maintain, and repair the issue myself, going forward. Extremely professional and most helpful.

Marcelo was on time, efficient, & knowledgeable. He patched some tricky drywall & created an access panel in our garage ceiling. Very helpful in the correct placement of it also. 3rd time we’ve used Expert Handyman and been more than happy with all of their work.

Working with any contractor should be a partnership. Expert Handyman has been doing our kitchen reno and they've done a great job. They have good suggestions for achieving the look you're after. These guys know their stuff!

Marcelo did a great job hanging my curtains. They were super heavy black out and sheer panel double rod hang on a large window. He had the right tools to drill through concreate and metal beams. Looks great! Now I can get some rest during the day time and work my long nights!

They provided a reasonable estimate and stuck to it for the work (repairing a couple windows). William was great and made sure I understood what he had done and my options for repair. They were also easy to coordinate the job, providing an estimate from photos and setting up everything online. I worked with Brittany who was friendly and responsive.

Marcelo did an excellent job of identifying a burned electrical wire connection in my dishwasher, which had flooded and quit working. He is courteous, efficient, and intelligent; he also was on time and completed the work in less than the time estimated.

I used Expert Handyman to install a new attic ladder. William & Marcelos did a great job, the finish around the ladder looks great and the ladder is perfect. Definitely worth it to have them install it.

Marcelo and Marco did a great job repairing a wobbly deck banister and retrofitting an exterior range hood vent. They went to get the appropriate materials and did a great job fixing it. They saved us so much time and frustration! Thank you!

Very impressed with this company. Great communication and customer service. They were on time, very professional, worked within the estimate and completed the project on time. William and Marcelo did a fantastic job assembling our Sauna. They were a pleasure to work with. We will definitely be using this company again. I highly recommend them.

I needed some drywall patching and painting done and Marcelo did it perfectly! Was told they'd arrive between 11-11:30 and they showed up at 11:15 and immediately got to work. Extremely polite and professional and not to mention fast! The whole thing was done in no time. Will definitely use them again next time I need work done.

The replaced my kitchen floors, fix wobbly table, painted and replaced my rails on the steps, the cleaning crew is absolutely awesome too... I would recommend them to anyone, for their outstanding services...

William and Marcos did a wonderful job installing a new cover for the exterior wall heat vent! They came right on time to the house and carefully examined the area that needed attention. The job was done swiftly. They also helped inspected the other vent cover for wellness. Especially worth to mention, they cleaned up two deserted bird nests inside the heat duct built up during the period without a cover. Just to imagine what dust or other debris could come into the house if they had not carefully cleaned up the duct before installing the new cover. I felt very luckily that William and Marcos did the job to prevent it from happening in the future.

After providing ample video and information to get an accurate estimate on water damage due to flooding in DC; they gave me a bad quote (told me there was no water damage and they could give me a new drain system and replace some floors where there had been staining previously. Unfortunately there was water damage and because of how long they took it turned into mold. I had asked the estimators to check for water and mold damage but they said there was no need. I trusted them and it wasn’t until they came to do the repairs they found additional damage. They overcharged me in comparison to other contractors (by $3000). But I was stuck since they were already on site. They tried to say I was unresponsive and that’s why the damage got worst, although I have evidence to the contrary, especially knowing I wouldn’t want water damage in my house because of the ramifications. They aren’t worth the price or time. I never write reviews but I don’t want anyone to experience what I did. The quality of work was good; however, that doesn’t make up for the weeks and weeks of stress I dealt with, the fact that the estimator was awful and management isn’t supportive at all. Don’t waste your time or money. You can get the same quality at better prices with better people

Good option for all-round repair and maintenance. They 'll take a shot at the tricky jobs that others might shun, though prices may be a bit on the high side. Brittany and her team at the office are alert and efficient, making sure that work proceeds in a timely manner. I will call on them again.

Repairman who came was very pleasant, polite, and considerate, however, can't recommend company due to rather exorbitant pricing. In our case received a $320 estimate to enlarge a pre-existing plumbing/electric access door in a closet. Thought that was at least $70 over reasonable price but decided to proceed anyway. Materials were essentially 2x2' section of plywood sheet, two hinges, a $1.00 hook and eye latch, and four pieces of wood to frame edges of plywood board (no painting). Final bill came in over $360.00 (over the already high estimate). I ended up throwing their latch away and replacing with my own $5 spring loaded latch which had to be mounted at bottom corner because board/door was too warped. I could have done this myself with $50 in materials in about 90 minutes max. Lesson learned. I advise shopping around for a more reasonable quote if you get an estimate from this company.

Marcelo did a great job patching a couple of drywall holes for us. He was professional and courteous, and the work quality was superb. Would recommend.

A professional job of installing new exterior shutters. The office was great about setting up the appointment and the workers arrived on time, with all the tools and knowledge required to do the job. I appreciate their good work, friendliness, and skills!

Our technician, Raoul, was very professional and friendly. He did a great job installing a ceiling fan. I was able to get an appointment within 2 days of my call.

This company is amazingly responsive. The worker who came to my house was on time, efficient and completed the job quickly and perfectly. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.

I have used Expert Handyman and Remodeling twice. Both times they were very professional. The technician Raul was on time and did a great job with the project. The office staff I dealt with was also very good. I corresponded with Monica in the office, both by phone and Email. Great customer service all the way around. No surprises with billing; it came in right at the estimate. I highly recommend them.

Awesome service! Ask for William if you need tile work done! I recently got the shower valve in my bath upgraded and it required removing 9 tiles around the handle leaving a gaping hole in the wall. William was able to get the tiles re-installed with the new handle and you wouldn’t even be able to tell there had been a hole there. If you need a handyman, call Expert Handyman. I’ll definitely be using them again!

I am really satisfied with the quality of work William completed in my home. I had varied projects that needed to be taken care of, including replacing my kitchen sink, retiling my bathroom shower, and fixing closet shelving, and he was able to do it all within a few days. I’m so glad I found Expert Handyman and will definitely be using them again for whatever else inevitably needs repair in my home in future. They can do it all!

Expert Handyman was invaluable to me. I live out of the area, and needed someone to prepare a house I owned in Alexandria for sale. Hugh and company took care of all the details and communicated with me throughout the process with texts and pictures. I never had to visit the property, and sold the house easily. A great experience.

The carpenters from Expert Handyman & Remodeling, William and Marcelo, had a serious challenge. They needed to build a stair railing in my rental townhouse before a city inspection that afternoon. I had gotten good advice and picked everything up from TW Perry a few days before, so all the necessary materials (handrail, posts, balusters, rosettes, hardware) were on site. William & Marcelo set up their saw in the back patio, so most sawdust stayed outside. They set up drop cloths covering the whole first floor and whenever they did drill or cut inside, they frequently ran their shop vac beside the drill so there was no cleanup at the end for me or my tenants to deal with.

In other situations, I might have left the job and been available by phone in case questions arose, but this time I stayed so was able to decide right away on a few issues that came up, which was probably key.

With the inspection less than an hour away, William and Marcelo kindly agreed to postpone their lunch break to complete the last section of railing so it would be done before the inspection. Then they cleared everything out of the way and left and the inspector arrived for the moment of truth. The house passed inspection with flying colors.

Then the crew came back after lunch for a final hour of tightening, sanding & puttying, and quality checking. William and Marcel did a fantastic job, as did the folks I worked with in the Expert Handyman office estimating and scheduling the work and in addressing the time sensitivity in this case. Well done!

Great experience with getting a handrail re-attached, along with other previous projects. They were efficient, helpful and professional. Got the job done, while I was working in my office. Marcelo was excellent and I hope to have him doing some work for me in the future. Will recommend!

I had the pleasure of scheduling with Monica who got me an appointment nearly the next day to complete some brick and grout work around a new firebox and install a mantel. William and Marco showed up on time and completed the work perfectly and even tighten a loose faucet on the way out. I’m already planning out my next work for them. On-time, well priced, quality work completed quickly and with care. Can’t ask for more than that.

Expert handyman’s crew did an amazing job repairing and remodeling a basement after a waterproofing project. They are very responsive and helpful in adjusting to our schedule. They also managed successfully the permitting process with the city despite the various issues.

As always, we are so pleased with Expert Handyman and their services. We own a rental property in Alexandria and we live in another state. The peace of mind we receive is priceless, knowing we have a reliable company to take care of any potential problems! He was professional, completed a site survey before hitting the store and returning. He completed the job in less time than I expected and went out of his way to cleanup afterward. From the begining Monica was very quick and responsive to my on-line request. We had sold our house and had a few items that needed to be addressed that came up on inspection. It is always a little scary to try a new home service, especially with the tighter turn around that we needed. Monica understood our situation and provided detailed invoices and was very responsive to all of our questions. Raul, our technician, was great! He was prompt, at the front door exactly at the agreed upon time and worked with me to come up with a plan for repairing the drywall work that had been damaged as part of some electrical repair we had done. He finished on time and was responsive throughout the day he was onsite. I would absolutely work with them again

We needed work done in between tenants, I was able to coordinate everything virtually with Brittany, she made everything so easy and was able to quickly get me on the schedule. Marcelo provided great quality work, and their pricing is reasonable! I will for sure call them for anything else we need done in the future!

Expert Handyman said they had Master Technicians but they had better than master techs! I needed some tough small jobs done that three other companies could not complete and that includes a window company! Marcelo and Marco tackled them like it was a walk in the park. They are innovative, quick and work totally in synch with each other completing a multitude of tasks in a short time. I couldn't have asked for better service and value. Expert Handyman, Marcelo and Marco are my "go to" from now on.

I've used Expert Handyman twice now for various projects (replacing window AC unit, fixing broken toilet, replacing track lighting, etc). Marcelo did great work and was professional. I've been very happy with the price and service and I highly recommend them.

Very pleased with the work done by Marcelo and Jontaue replacing the exterior and trim on our front door and installing an awning. They were on time, efficient and came in under budget on materials. Would definitely recommend and plan to use Expert Handyman again in the future.

Gave them a try after a glowing review on a local listserv for a front porch they did. On their website they claim to take care of your 'honey do' lists and they do. I used them to fix a couple of front door and kitchen cabinet issues at home and a low water pressure issue at a rental.
Excellent communication skills via email, text and phone.
Pricing was upfront and clear. A bit pricy for a retired old timer like me but in line with the current market and times. Love the invoicing via email and credit card payments.
Techs came on time, were professional and resolved the issues.
Recommend them and will certainly be using them for future projects.

We've used Expert Handyman a few times now, for ceiling fan installation, minor plumbing fixes and some electrical work. Both William and Marcelo were courteous and friendly, and got to work quickly. Extremely satisfied with the quality of their work. Highly recommend.

Marcello was fantastic. In an hour, he got my ceiling lamp and fan hooked up and working perfectly, de-installed a phone, and put up some track lights. He was smart, swift and really expert.

We used Expert to make electrical repairs in our 100-year old house. Expert was initially one of three companies we contacted and their estimate was the middle of three. We initially worked with Emran and an electrician, Mike Lee, to diagnose and scope the problem. Mike was very professional, honest in his assessment and gave us exactly what we needed -- nothing more. When he came to do work, he was courteous, on time and clear about what the work would entail. After replacing our damaged electrical panel (which included City permits and coordination with Dominion Power), Expert/Mike also helped us unravel some ongoing problems with our old wiring. We're very happy to finally have a safe, modern breaker panel and circuits that don't trip our breakers every time someone uses a hair dryer. Thanks to Expert and Mike Lee, in particular, for the hard work, honesty and professionalism.

Really appreciated the professionalism and consideration that Expert Handyman provided when we needed to have some emergency repairs done to our unit. They were diligent and thorough in their repairs, and made sure to stay in constant communication. They were patient, flexible, and able to work around my schedule. Highly recommend.

Marcelo and Marco were professional and punctual. We were having issues with our sink leaking and also needed grout replacement; they did a thorough examination, the issue turned out not to be as serious as we thought it would be, and they completed excellent work, turning around much quicker than we had initially anticipated. Brittany in the office then worked with us to revise and reduce the original quote because the job turned out to be less involved. Highly recommend.

Expert handyman came out to assist me with covering some holes in my home where rodents were getting in. The price is very reasonable and the company is easy to deal with. I will be using them again.

We contracted Expert Handyman to replace our deck. The final costs exceeded the original estimate by nearly 40% on what was a very straightforward, two-day project that never varied in scope from the first conversation to the last. While I know that additional costs inevitably arise on projects (and we approved an initial cost adjustment), the increase was ultimately a reflection of 1) a very poor initial estimate and 2) misleading language that did not accurately convey the math used for materials + markup. I raised my concerns with staff when I received the final bill and never received a call from the owner who had done the original estimate. We will not use Expert Handyman again for any services nor would we recommend them.

I feel misled by the positive reviews of this company. My personal experience with them is quite unpleasant. The initial phone conversation went well but it all changed on the day where I was supposed to get serviced. The handyman arrived late and when he got there, he told me it would take two people to get the job done, and we'd have to reschedule. I was told someone else would join him later that day but he wasn't aware of that. Despite all the confusion and lack of communication between the employees, I agreed to reschedule for the following week. While we were on the phone, the customer service rep informed me that it would have to be done the week after (2 weeks or more from the time we agreed on). I think this company is inconsistent, misleading and unprofessional. To be fair I can't attest for their work since I did not have the door installed, but the customer service was substandard, unprofessional and very misleading. The price I got quoted for also kept changing. Think about it twice before you waste time and shop around.

I called to have someone out to look at a broken garbage disposal and undraining kitchen sink, in addition to installing a new faucet. Trionio came out to my condo, he installed the faucet and replaced the dead disposal. He was extremely professional, friendly, and quick. Would definitely get service from them again. Thank you!!

Great Customer Service and quality of work. From the initial call Brittany made the estimate process very easy and quick. She quickly provided extra documents I needed for my association board. William and Marco showed up on time, quickly assessed the work, organized their plan and got started. William dealt with some very old plumbing to change out a vanity and facets and was a master at ensuring everything went well. Marco installed bathroom lights ensuring they were level and working before finalizing the job. During the work I decided to change what we were doing – a quick call to Brittany and within minutes the new work was quoted and authorized. Marco did great work filling a large hole in the wall after we took out the recessed medicine cabinet. It was in a sheetrock wall which is not easy to work with. He meticulously put in the drywall, taped, spackled and sanded. He did multiple iterations of the spackle and sanding taking no shortcuts. Same thorough work with the painting – primer and final coat. The wall looks great. I highly recommend Expert Handyman, everyone was professional and customer service focused, they did great work at a reasonable price

When I first called this company they were professional and scheduled my project within a week. Marcelo, the technician, arrived at my house on time and had the project done quickly and professionally! I will definitely be using expert handyman and remodeling in the future and would recommend their services for any home projects.

Expert Handyman installed drywall to cover the popcorn ceilings in our 3 bedrooms and painted both the ceilings and the 3 bedrooms since the walls required painting after the ceiling work. Carlos and Omar did an excellent job. The ceilings and walls look great. While this was dirty work, they covered everything and did their best to manage the dust. They were professional and responsive. We would highly recommend Expert Handyman.

Marco and Marcelos were great. A section of cabinetry, which included the above range microwave, was separating from the wall and ceiling. They diagnosed the issue with the initial installation and fixed the problem. Quality fix and clean up. They were on time and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend.

Marcello and Marcus were at my home on time this morning and completed four nagging tasks for me that I could not finish. Beautiful work and very very neat.

Expert Handyman did a wonderful job in a long-overdue remodel of my townhouse style condo. In a nutshell, I had the main level updated with fresh paint and crown moulding - what a difference! In the lower level/family room, they removed a very old ceiling with glued on tiles and replaced that with new drywall and recessed lighting - what a difference - I can actually see down there now! Lastly, was the lower level Neo-angle shower remodel - major difference!

Expert Handyman's management team really helped me to hone in on the work to be done and provided valuable recommendations. Estimates and final billing were accurate.

Carlos and his team were assigned the project and worked steadily and very thoroughly over the better part of two weeks. The photos don't do justice to the work these craftsmen accomplished. They made every effort to keep me informed of progress and upcoming phases of the work. They were respectful of my home and polite. And, during this time of COVID, they took care to mask-up and maintain distancing when appropriate.

I would encourage you to give Expert Handyman the opportunity to see what they can do for you. Now that this work is out of the way, I may have more for them to do - in this home and a rental property.

I would recommend this company to anyone who needs things done around their house. I am on a very tight budget for my currently house projects and they came in below what I had anticipated. Additionally, their quote was slightly higher than the final bill which made me even happier. They were able to fit me in on the day I requested at the time I needed. They were on time and professional.

We had a nasty water leak that destroyed our laundry room ceiling along with the tenant apartment ceiling. We had drywall and painting done. All went great! Marcello and Marcos were courteous, professional, and hard-working. Both drywall and painting were done very well. We are quite pleased!

I am in the process of doing a DYI bathroom remodel and needed help installing a new vanity top and faucet to my existing vanity. I called Expert Handyman and was very impressed with their process. I received an estimate via email and was on their schedule a few days later. The two workers who did the job were very friendly and professional. They did a great job! Will definitely use this company again for future projects.

I can't say enough about my experiences with Expert Handyman. Not only was the finished product beyond expectations, but the caliber of professionalism was top notch. Even during an international pandemic, my work was done on schedule and on budget. Expert Handyman had us, their client, top of mind from start to finish. Floors, paint, bathrooms. We had an over the oven microwave installation that required cutting some kitchen tile to make the microwave fit and only a short window of time to get the job done. Expert Handyman came on time, provided professional service, and cleaned up after the job. Their front office team listened closely to our needs and delivered on their promise. Hats off to them for a job well done.

I called the company and told them a tree had fallen on my fence. Very promptly and the same day I was given an insurance estimate to perform the work. It was reasonable and very well done. I will utilize them to perform the work as they gave me a detailed explanation of the work that needed to be done to rectify the damage created by the tree. The professionalism and prompt response that I received made me feel that I was their top priority even though my job was small compared to many other customers that they may contract with for services. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of services related to your property.

Used this firm back in late 2018 for a roof leak issue. Back in OCT 2018, they had to come out multiple times to rectify their work as their solutions simply were not working. It went from patch, to big patch, to capping two chimneys, over a span of 3 months of leak issues. Root cause analysis was all over the place.

Fast forward, 18 months later to APR 2020, their solution has failed. Fully recognizing their ultimate recommendations were to "replace the entire roof", however this was in conflict with other roof specialists who had assessed our roof upon purchase of the house and said the vast majority of the roof was still in its lifespan and serviceable.

In short, the interactions (from the beginning with the owner's initial quote) through the actual execution of the solution, were all plagued with inefficiency and low value work. To have the same issue persist, the same leak in the same spot, suggests I should have had a true roof specialist tackle the problem. Reminds me of the statement, "buy cheap, buy twice. Buy quality, cry once."

I'll offer Emran (officer/manager) was always prompt and professional on the phone which is a nice and welcome surprise given the customer service in general here in Alexandria. However, I just did not have any faith or confidence to have the product/service he represents come back out and try this again, for the 6th+ time.

I was given a quote for having a ceiling fan installed, then they changed their minds and said they were going to charge me a lot more (just under $900!), saying they were sending an electrician instead of a handyman. Then they sent a handyman to do the job instead, but still charged me the outrageous amount. This handyman created a long gash in my plaster wall (which had brick beneath) put the electrical wires in the gash and then plastered over it. It looks fine, but what if some future owner comes along and wants to drop a screw in that area -- they would be electrocuted! I don't think this was appropriate behavior.

We could not be more pleased with the job done on our bathroom remodel project by Expert Handyman. Our main crew, William and Marco, are excellent craftsmen, very professional, and worked very hard. They started and finished the job on time. They were respectful of our property, and kept the work area clean. They kept us informed of any issues that arose, all of which were minor, and solicited our input to ensure we were happy with what they were doing.

The only minor---and very minor---hiccup with the project involved the final step, the installation of the shower doors (different crew than William and Marco). The crew did not show up on the day scheduled. After we inquired, the office manager followed up immediately and explained there had been a miscommunication with the crew. They came first thing the next morning and did a great job. They were also very apologetic. Again, a very minor issue and not a big deal at all, but we very much appreciate the responsiveness of the company and the immediate followup.

In sum, all our contacts with the company were quite positive, from folks in the office, to the work crews, to the president of the company (who personally checked on the project twice to ensure all was on track and we were happy). These folks are top notch! It was our first experience with them, but it won't be the last.

Highly recommend this local company! I've used them to do several projects on my home over the past several months, they've always showed up on time, did exactly what they said they were going to do, and left the place spotless. You'll be happy with the quality!

It is picture perfect and we couldn't be happier.

I had a growing to-do list of so many random things around our house, and needed it all completed before Memorial Day weekend. Finding Expert Handyman was like hitting the jackpot. They were prompt, friendly, professional, did an amazing job, and got everything finished perfectly in a short amount of time. They painted our pergola, pressure washed the bluestone patio that had moss all over it, helped install a slat system in our shed, painted our gutter and downspout and wires against our house, relocated cable wires, hung a 35lb mirror in a masonry wall, caulked the tub, caulked the sink, and even power washed our patio fence and the planters while they were back there.
