Based on one of their drivers nearly running multiple vehicles off the road (i-5 northbound around 7:30pm Friday December 15th) I will never hire this company for any work. They clearly allow drinking on the job or don't vet who they're handing vehicles out to. The driver was playing on their phone swerving into multiple lanes and high beaming every vehicle that past him. His speed varying +-40mph over the distance of 100'. Anyway if you have your vans chipped and know who your driver is feel free to do the right thing. Yes your driver was bad enough to warrant a Google review.

We should really have a zero or negative star option on this review platform! Bruce Hunter president of Tacoma roofing and waterproofing is the previous owner to BD roofing, under BD roofing Bruce and his “30 years experience“ manage to significantly compromise my roof and I have dealt with leaks the last 4 to 5 years. Due to his “quality work” I am forced to replace the roof only eight short years after it was originally installed. I am seeking some minor compensation to absorb the cost for the roof that should at least last 25 years. Apparently awls you have to do is close one business and open another business and that allows you to be a shady contractor and not hold yourself responsibility for poor quality. Bruce Hunter Is a dishonest sneaky snake in the grass of a human being.

**Update** After my comments Tacoma Roofing & Waterproofing contacted me and wanted to make things right. They have sent their best roofers to make the repairs and the manager has personally verified the work. I originally gave them a one star review but because they have made things right I have changed it to a three star.

Original Post
I recently bought a brand new house that had its roof installed by Tacoma Roofing & Waterproofing. To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement, since the purchase of our home (about 2 years) we have had three significant issues with their roof. The first issue happened during a mild storm, I had 2 shingles blow completely off the roof. The second issue we had was with the shingles along the roofs edge had begun to separate from the roof along the gutter.

I called Tacoma Roofing & Waterproofing to come out and fix both issues with the shingles. I found the receptionist to be very polite and I will say they did responded in a timely manner. However, when the roofer showed up I requested prior to starting any work that he provide me an assessment of the damage and an estimate of the repair. I never received a phone call so I assumed the repair was covered under warranty. Two weeks later I received a $350.00 bill in the mail for the repairs. I called the office and complained about not receiving an estimate and that they performed the repair without my consent. The manager apologized via the receptionist and waived the bill.

With that all said you could only image my frustration when we discovered last night that we have a leak in our roof and water has begun to run down my walls. I have another roofing company scheduled to come out to asses my two year old roof and make repairs as needed. I wouldn’t recommend this roofing company to anyone and wish we could give negative stars, better yet a black hole.

They came right out and gave us a great quote for our flat roof that was leaking. We had received two other quotes and were very impressed with Tacoma Roofing's professionalism. I would recommend them for your flat roof. Lupe and Allen were great to work with!

I contacted Bruce Hunter at Tacoma Roofing and Waterproofing and scheduled an inspection of the 6 month old roof of a commercial building in Fife, WA. There had not been any notable leaks during that 6 month time period and the roof looked in good condition. The inspection was quoted to cost about $500. Allen Sensel, an estimator/project manager and another gentleman arrived on a Friday afternoon and spent several hours on the roof. When they came off the roof, Allen said there were a number of problems and that it needed some serious repair. He said they would send an email with the full report and photos. At 3:00PM I opened an email that was sent at about 1:00 to find the report and photos that showed a horrible mess with gaping holes in the roofing material. There was no repair cost quoted but during a phone conservation I was told the cost would be in the thousands. A quote from Bruce in the report "If you want us to repair this roof, due to severity of the conditions of this roof and the damage that you could obtain, we could start Monday, of next week." Monday morning I arrived to find cascades of water running off the ceiling and down the walls inside the building by the bucketful. Frantic calls to Bruce resulted in a crew showing up and spending several hours on the roof repairing the gaping holes and seams. After they were finished, the roof looked the same as it did prior to their arrival the previous Friday. I contacted two water damage companies and received quotes of about $5000 to tear out drywall, remove insulation and dry out the walls and ceiling. I now have a pending claim with my insurance company and a letter from Tacoma Roofing's attorney and part owner Steven Bobman that says in part "You never hired them to perform any services or repair the roof" and "If you intend to take legal action we will countersue for frivolous lawsuit and I suspect you will be paying the attorneys fees." In 39 years of doing business in Tacoma, I have not had a worse nor a more costly experience.

My mother recently had her home re roofed by Tacoma roofing and waterproofing. She is in her 80's, a widow, and living an extremely meek life with little income. She had a leak over her bedroom window, that poured down her side wall. They had a technician look at it and told her that she was in serious need of a new roof. She was devastated! she had no idea how she would afford a new roof. Tacoma Roofing and Waterproofing not only gave her an EXCELLENT price quote, they set her up with the ability to make payments she could afford. The workers came in at 8:30am and were done before noon. They tore off her exsisting roof, hauled it out, re roofed, cleaned the windows, cleaned up the yard, and were gone before she could even notice. The roof is beautiful and she is so grateful!
Thank you Tacoma Roofing and Waterproofing for not only an excellent new roof, but also a fantastic experience! Truely the best experience we could of ever hoped for!!

I hired Tacoma Roofing & Waterproofing to clean my cedar shingle roof. They sent a crew who cleaned the entire roof by hand -- without power equipment. They were careful, thorough and cleaned up after themselves perfectly. The owner said I would be amazed at how clean my roof would be but I thought that was exaggeration. It wasn't! They did a spectacular job and I could not be happier. If they clean a roof this well, I can only imagine what a great job they do replacing roofs. When its time - and hopefully not too soon!-- I will call Tacoma Roofing & Waterproofing for my new roof. In the mean time I have a great looking, clean older roof. I highly recommend this company.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
