Was not a good experience. Got estimate for work and when they came out to do work didn't do what they were suppose to do. Then tried to charge me full price for work they didn't do. They reflashed a chimney and didn't even match the shingles. They took a down payment and didn't do the job right. They were also were supposed to buy and replace shingles that were discolored. Do not allow Pat to give estimates . He lies.

We had a pipe burst and had water damage in a section of our house. Plumbers came quickly fixed it and found it had been leaking for a while. Restoration team came out and removed damaged walls and set up dryers
It was then time to find a contractor to do the repairs. When Duke Roofing came out the guy was super nice gave us a quote and said they were about 2 weeks out. 3 months later they got started. Took them a long time due to having to schedule this person to do this and that person to do that. Work was not great. Painter spilled paint on carpet and didn’t tell us. Touched up the trim with the wrong paint. Paint knocked off places that they didn’t paint over. Had a few things that they needed to fix and I ask them to come back to do that. Never saw them.
Long story short, we are repainting the trim and doing the small things that we paid them to do.
We will definitely not be using them again.

Writing for my elderly father in law who isn't on line. They surveyed a simple ridge vent repair and convinced him he needed a whole new roof. Then talked him into a $4300 deposit with no signed contract. Duke then cashed the check. A second vendor gave a more appropriate quote and scope of work per insurance requirements. Contacted Duke about refunding the deposit / revising the work a few days later and was told they would. Over 3 months later, still no refund. He and I both have called their office and cells repeatedly but no return calls and still no refund, materials, work, or communication to this day. They clearly don't want to discuss, provide the work, nor refund anything. Basically they took money for services and material but never delivered nor offered an explanation. So now we're filing an ethics complaint with VA board of contractors against their most current of many licenses and name changes, and probably additional local charges for apparently obtaining money under false pretenses, contractor failing to deliver goods and services, maybe grand theft as well if the magistrate sees fit It's a shame, but all they really had to do was answer a phone and explain why they think they're entitled to the money of an elderly veteran on a fixed income without actually providing the goods or services of same value or even contacting him to discuss. They apparently believe they earned it somehow and need it more then he does.

Unlike other roofers I called to get my job done, Duke Roofing answered the phone each time I called and my question was answered promptly. The job was done on time and at a fair price. The roofers cleaned up so well I couldn't even tell they were here. I highly recommend this company. Braxton Barnhill is a pleasure to work with.

The flashing around my chimney sprung a leak which was streaking and leaking through the paneling near the chimney. I caulked it with roofing and flashing sealant which stopped it for awhile but eventually the leak returned. A leaky roof is nothing to play around with as the cost of repair becomes more expensive the longer the leak persists.

I contacted Duke Roofing and Mr. John Duke called me and said he could help me out and sent someone out quickly to perform an estimate. The work was done right and close to estimate (there was a slight extra charge to replace rotted wood but that is to be expected if there is a prolonged leak). They replaced the skylight, chimney flashing, shingles, and plumbing boots for $1400. All the work was done in a single day.

Braxton Barnhill did most of the work which turned out great. Braxton contacted me to set a data and time to do the work and even worked with Mr. Duke to accommodate my work schedule. Braxton is very courteous and professional, and a great roofer on top of it. The job was done right and the job site was clean when they left, inside and out. Mr. Duke came out personally while the work was ongoing and is very nice.

We have had some very heavy downpours since having the work done and I am happy to say the leak is gone. If you are looking for a local roofer that is family owned and cares about their craftsmanship look no further than Duke Roofing. Highly recommended.

Service questions

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
