I’ll start by saying that I have no experience with their construction, materials, time-lines, or costs. This is due to the fact that I called several times to inquire about whether I could come in to tour the model home but no one ever answered the phone. I left my phone number but no one returned my call. After several attempts to communicate by phone, I decided to drive the 45 minutes to their model location because they were supposedly open… as their posted hours on the internet confirmed. They were not open, and there was a sign on the door, indicating such. The sign looked as if it had been there a while so I suspect they rarely accommodate walk-in customers.
If I could make a suggestion to the owner of this business, it would be to change the published hours to “by appointment only” and to return phone calls to those customers who may be interested in your product.

Second Owner - Very solid cabin construction ! The exterior logs, which were not maintained in 15 years, remain very solid.

Called and pleasantly received available printed information concerning this specific build - impressive !

Wish that a single window upgrade had been made. A double hung window 14' above the floor serves no purpose. Changing to twin fixed thermals for aesthetics and uniformity to side panel windows.
Roof is a 3 tab and will go with metal when replacement is necessary.

Very professional and knowledgeable of available products and the area. I look forward to finalizing details of our new home. Lead us in the direction we needed to go given our particular situation provided different options for us to consider when deciding base model of home and options for foundation based on what local contractors typically fare better at.

Travis is awesome. He spent way too much time with us while we worked him over with questions. Go see this dude if you want a log home.

My wife and I met with Travis this past week and he was very helpful. He let us walk around the model and didn’t follow us around like most other places do. While we are just in the beginning stages, we intend on purchasing a kit from Southland and Travis.

If you are interested in a log home, go see Travis at Christiansburg. We would text him late and night not expected a response, and he was always willing to text back or even take a call. It is refreshing to work with someone who cares about their customers. Highly recommended.

My husband and I met with Travis Austin at Southland on a Sunday afternoon. They are not open on Sunday's, but he came in to help us because it was the only day we could make it up. We are looking forward to working with him and Southland in the future.

It's a great Saturday!

My parents and I, are both interested in building log homes.

We drove 1.5 hours to check out some possibilities with Southland.

Their website says they are open today. Their voicemail didn't say they were closed.

We showed up at 2:10pm.

The store is closed!

The sign in the door says they are closed today and to come back on Monday.

We are not going to use our limited vacation to skip work and make this long drive again on Monday!

We are very displeased.

We ran into this same issue with Southland Log Homes locations in Tennessee as well.

We are completely ruling out Southland now.

They have LOST our business PERMANENTLY.

Called to find out the closing time. I was told 4 pm and he would be there until then. I told him I was coming from two hours away so I gave him my name and phone number.
Arrived at Southern Log Homes at approximately 3:20 pm to find doors locked and no one there. The man did not call me to say he had to leave or anything and he knew I was on the way. I had to turn around and drive straight back home. I am ready to buy it, but it won't be from this place!

Service questions

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
