My review of SLM General Contractors & Roofing:
Due to a mold and asbestos problem, our Jack’n’Jill bathroom had to have a lot of destruction. Once the room was clean of all bacteria, it was time to reconstruct. SLM was recommended to me, plus I looked them up on line and read their reviews. Once contacted, and they agreed to take on the project, we agreed to a price. As the project progressed, and I added essentials, the cost increased (per my approval). But costs were always kept within reason.
At the beginning, I met the owner. Sergio, in person. A very nice, courteous gentleman; in fact, the whole crew were polite. Since I was bedridden, he understood I depended on him and his crew to follow through with projected plans. He went over and above what I expected by making sure he kept me informed and updated via texts and pictures of progress. Our bathroom turned out even nicer than I expected. I am a very pleased customer.
I cannot say enough good things about this company from honesty to knowledge, from dependable to workmanship. If you need any work done that is within their expertise, I highly recommend SLM.

We have had a few projects completed with SLM General Contractors recently. Sergio and everyone at SLM has been amazing to work with. Aside from the integrity and quality of work of the contractors, Sergio and his team were outstanding to deal with on every level. Communication and detail of a thorough understanding of the repairs and the process. If there were any changes or things that came up we were informed immediately and offered options is available. As difficult as an insurance company can be to deal with, SLM took care of everything with our case manager and the insurance company, well past the completion of the work. I will continue to use SLM for all of our updates, upgrades and home repairs and I recommend you do the same.

Highly recommend SLM for any of your needs. We had a roof leak with damage inside and outside. Sergio came out and explained what needed to happen to fix the issue first before proceeding. They addressed the leak, redid the interior replacing insulation and Sheetrock. He communicated through the project showing me what they found and how he was going to repair. The finished product looks better than before the damage happened. Will be using them on future needs for sure! Thank you SLM GC!!

POOR WORKMANSHIP! Utterly Incompetent: Avoid SLM at All Costs!
I initially left just a one-star rating for SLM, avoiding temptation to unleash my frustration online with a lengthy diatribe. However, the sheer audacity of their response to my previous review compels me to share the deplorable experience we endured. Forget subpar work, this was borderline fraudulent.

First and foremost, the quality of the materials they installed was abysmal. Both contractors from Lowe's and a separate carpet repair company confirmed the shockingly poor quality of the carpet. We weren't just naive homeowners; we paid their full quoted price to build trust for future projects. However, their response when we politely raised concerns about the fairly new two-year-old, defective carpet and bathroom tiles was astonishingly dismissive and unprofessional.

Instead of addressing the issues, they resorted to deflecting and gaslighting: "why didn't you call us sooner?" or "my son saw you, why didn't you mention it then?" These pathetic excuses are irrelevant. We address problems when they become evident, not in their "nascent stages," and contacting a contractor should not rely on chance encounters with their family members.

Furthermore, our neighbor, a respected local contractor, specifically confirmed their infamous incompetence.

During the final walk-through, they falsely assured us that the bathroom floor's "rocking" would disappear. This was blatant deception. Years later, the floor still moves like a poorly anchored seesaw every time someone walks on it. The carpet was no better. When replaced, the new crew discovered numerous areas where the underlay padding was missing or improperly cut, contributing to the problem's escalation.

The entire experience with SLM was a nightmare: confrontational, unprofessional, and riddled with delays in communication. They clearly prioritize maximizing profits over quality by hiring the absolute cheapest sub-contractors they can find. After three years of homeownership, I can confidently say SLM is the worst contractor I've ever encountered. Trust me, your home deserves better. Stay far, far away.

SLM is by far the best contractor we have ever worked with, we would definitely use this business again for other projects. From our initial meeting with Sergio to our final walk through with Jessica, the process was professional, efficient and stress-free. Jessica kept us updated and was always available to answer questions. The crew came when expected and did excellent work. We have done many remodeling projects, none have been as easy and positive as our experience with SLM. It was a pleasure to work with them.

We had a flood in the primary bath, bed and closets in a secondary house. Through friends, we learned of SLM. Sergio and team met with us and went over what needed to be done. We also included a number of other minor touch up items we wanted to have refreshed.

SLM worked directly with our insurance company on the covered work. They made sure we got the right replacement products. Feedback from the insurance company on SLM was great.

The water damage affected two rooms with very custom wall paint. The work that SLM did is absolutely indistinguishable from the original. And not just on the paint but throughout. The communication while we were gone was perfect. Enough. Not too much nor were we ever wondering about the status.

We simply can’t say enough good about Sergio and SLM. They get our highest recommendation.

The most stress free roofing companies I have ever done business with. Sergio is a man of his word and a true top notch professional, when it comes to roofing and customer service. Only company I will be using from here on out.

SLM contractors replaced some siding on our house after our AC units had been moved. They were quick to respond, the price was reasonable, and they came to perform the work very quickly. The guys doing the work were very professional and did a fantastic job. I would definitely recommend them!

Sergio and Jessica at SLM General Contractors were amazing to work with! They were very professional, always returned my calls / texts quickly, walked me through the entire “new roof” process, and even advised me on a way to save $1,300/year on my home owners insurance by recommendation an impact resistant shingle. SLM recently poured and formed 2 cement bases and attached 2 commercial park benches for our customer in their park. There work was timely, neat and the quality was great. They were easy to work with and they kept us up to date on their progress as they moved through the completion process.

From our very first visit with Sergio to our last walkthrough with Jessica it has been so pleasant. They listened to all of my ideas and did everything they could to implement them into our space. I reached out to SLM to inquiry about roof replacement without insurance and they provided everything I needed in a timely manner. They gave me all the options available and their response has always been on time.

I have no hesitation to decide to choose them when the time come to replace the roof and everything was clearly stated in the scope of work. The crew did the work for a little over a day and they cleaned up after. They addressed any concerns I have during the removal/installation as they appointed one person to be the point of contact throughout the day (there the whole time). I would not hesitate to call SLM for future projects.

SLM contractors are pro's. they do great work. they don't cut corners and they do a ton to give back to the community.

Finding good contractors can be difficult but once we found this company everything became a breeze. We have zero complaints and nothing but praise for the work and the professionalism by the group.

I can't say enough good words about this company. I had 2 sky tunnels with electric light dampers placed in my living room and they work perfect and look beautiful. From the very first call Sergio and his team were very, prompt, professional and neat during the install. His crew was respectful and when they left my home everything was left clean. You may have to wait to be worked into their busy schedule but it is well worth it to have a top rate professional, and honest company. I will be using this company again! We used the team at SLM when remodeling our house. They were able to complete everything from taking down walls and remodeling our kitchen to converting our garage into an office. Sergio, Jessica, and team were incredibly easy to work with and really listened to all of our requests and concerns. I'd recommend SLM to any friends/family.

In February 2020, unusual winter weather conditions caused significant damage to three of five commercial suites we own. All suites are individual buildings on the same plot of land, each with separate slabs and utilities. Due to power outages and below-freezing temperatures, we experienced copper pipe failure in every suite. The buildings, all being dental suites at one time or another, each had waterlines installed in the attic spaces spanning the length of the buildings. These waterlines were installed above the blown-in insulation levels and not thermally insulated or wrapped. The water damage from the top down was extensive, and 98% of the sheetrock, insulation, and ductwork was rendered unsalvageable. The ceilings burst due to the weight of the water and wet installation. Water covered the floors in each building, saturating them, and all flooring was deemed unsalvageable. It was a total loss for us and our tenants. Being the property manager, I was now responsible for a project that neared half a million dollars and was totally out of my scope of expertise.

After the remediation company had done their work, to say I was overwhelmed by the state of the buildings would be an understatement. I interviewed three general contracting firms, including the company that performed the remediation/water extraction. All very experienced, each having at least 20 years of history in their field. My final interview was with Sergio from SLM. Sergio was referred to me by a colleague who had experience with his work. His professionalism, demeanor, appearance, and compassion set him miles apart from his competition. Sergio could see that I was in over my head, apprehensive and ignorant of the insurance and construction businesses. Where the other contractors came in, took notes, and said, "yeah, we can handle it," Sergio gave me a wealth of critical information to begin the dialog with my insurance adjuster. Sergio walked me through what to expect in the initial stages of the claim and left me some resources to review to help me better understand the overall process. I left our first exchange saying to myself, "it's going to be ok... I can do this!'

It only took SLM a couple of days to provide me with a scope of work, and Sergio was very responsive to all of my redundant questions. In each of our many conversations, he never seemed agitated by my lack of understanding and confirmed I understood and was satisfied with his responses. When our insurance adjustor reviewed all three of SLM's estimates, he agreed and was pleased with what SLM had submitted for each of the suites. There was never any back and forth between SLM and our adjuster on price or scope of work. Everything was within spec and fair, with no bloated estimates.

Work commenced promptly and efficiently as funds were made available by our insurance company. I was impressed by the quality of the work done by the subcontractors. Anyone who has had to replace infrastructure down to the studs knows you will find unforeseen issues. Rather than ignoring the hidden issues or turning them into emergencies, Sergio helped me to address and navigate each of them solidly and cost-effectively. We did have some setbacks with the City of Rockwall, but because of the weather and the fact that Rockwall was declared a disaster area, I am sure the city had more than its fair share of problems to address.

Our organization made it to the other side of this disaster, and we could not be more grateful to SLM General Contractors. They walked with us through this, educated us on managing such a massive project, and provided excellent work at a fair price. Sergio is an honest contractor, who uses quality subcontractors, is knowledgeable in the insurance world, and is committed to getting the job done correctly and promptly.

SLM will be my 'Go-To-GC' in the future.

We had a slanted floor upstairs. We did the three quote thing and met Sergio. He was very knowledgeable about the issue and gave us a reasonable price. After he completed the job we were very happy. No more slanted floor, very professional guy/service. I am now having our kitchen lighting redone by him. Highly recommended!

SLM did a tremendous job replacing my roof with a hail resistant roof. Very professional, on time and great value.

My wife found SLM while searching google. Sergio and Nestor preformed my inspection and I found them to be honest as well as transparent, will definitely be using them for our home repair needs in the near future. Fantastic experience with our shower remodel. All of the crew did an amazing job, they were very respectful and kind. Our new shower is absolutely beautiful and we so glad we chose SLM. Our project manager is amazing and stayed in constant contact. We will use SLM for all future home projects without hesitation.

We will never use this company again and strongly recommend others seek roofing done elsewhere. The president, Sergio, is very difficult to work with and refuses to acknowledge mistakes when they make them. They went and purchased material without our consent, refused to allow us to see items that were replaced to ensure they actually needed to be replaced, and took much longer than they originally said they would. We told them we had materials being delivered on a specific day, and instead of waiting until the day after to start their crew showed up and began working to remove shingles without the materials to replace them. Then they had the nerve to place blame on us when there was a delivery delay for later in the day than originally anticipated. Sergio and SLM may be half decent if you don't have to speak with the president, but if you have an issue then LOOK OUT! Their cleanup was so poor that we are still finding nails, shingles, and plastic from their supplies all over the yard 2 months later. Additionally, there was so much debris that collected in our pool from this haphazard attempt at covering we had a hefty pool repair bill after they left due to the pumps being clogged with roofing debris. STAY AWAY!

EDIT: The owner is attempting to change the narrative by making up points that simply do not exist. I have been involved fully from the beginning and unlike Sergio, communicate daily with my wife and have a full picture of this entire project. The owner is attempting to to charge for something he was not authorized to purchase and then is blackmailing us into paying this unauthorized charge or threatening to put a lien on our house. We paid the portion of the bill we agreed with after the owner refused to send an updated invoice as we were waiting on, and this was after numerous delays where they tried to charge us for materials that were later returned for a refund and never used!! Stay away from these crooks, our bill went down ~$2000 after pointing out all the items we were double charged on or invoiced for items never used!

Mr Maldonado, President of SLM General Contractors , has completed several projects for us, two of them being roof replacements. He stays in very close contact while the project is ongoing, handles any questions or issues timely and fairly; and spends whatever time needed without appearing to be rushed. Sergio Maldonado conducts his business in a professional manner. He obtains appropriate permits, and his work is to code. On the roof replacements he prepares a booklet itemizing the work done, copies of permits, follow-up inspections by the city, and warranty.
The employees wear shirts with the company logo for quick identification.

Sergio and his team have taken care of several projects for us for from just putting in a new fence to re construction of our dining room. Over the past 40 years my wife and I have had too many contractors to even think about and the number of them that showed up on time, kept their price without suddenly cheating us, did the job as expected was 0 until we started using SLM.

Honesty is not something that is found in the contractor world, not sure why but it just isn't so SLM was a breath of fresh air and we had ample opportunity to be hesitant, we have been ripped off many times over the years.

SLM is currently working on two new projects for us and I have an entire landscaping job I still need to discuss the them before Spring is here. We will not be wandering again for a home contractor.

SLM did a superb job after hail damaged my home in 2017. Most everything exterior needed to be replaced or redone including the roof, gutters, exterior paint and window screens. The team is customer oriented and does quality work. Sergio is an upright businessman who operates with integrity. Hence I have called him several times for additional work since 2017.

We had SLM work on a few projects. They installed new wood floors, refinished the existing wood floors, painted kitchen cabinets, did some patch work on closing up pet doors, and fixed my ceiling from a roof leak.
