I live with my mother-in-law, who hired Cody in November to tackle several projects in our house, including replacing the siding, installing new gutters, refinishing our bathroom, installing new windows, and digging irrigation in our yard. Unfortunately, the work was substandard and caused significant problems..
After Cody's subcontractors installed the gutters, they were not properly connected to the drainage system, despite Cody digging up our entire property for this purpose. Shortly before this, he had installed new vinyl floors in our basement. Following a snowstorm and subsequent heatwave, our basement flooded, ruining the new floors, furniture, carpets, and other items. Cody refused to allow us to file an insurance claim, citing concerns over his insurance rates. Consequently, my mother-in-law had to cover all the mitigation expenses on her credit card, including the electric bill for fans and other drying equipment.
Cody eventually had to redo all the floors, which took him three months to complete. Our bedrooms are downstairs, and we also have five animals living with us. He did nothing about the mold damage and failed to supervise his subcontractors properly, leading to them starting the bathroom renovation amidst the flooding. This delayed the bathroom project by eight weeks.
In total, my mother-in-law paid Cody $40,000 in cash and additional amounts on her credit card because he claimed he couldn't continue working for free. She recently discovered unauthorized purchases on her card, including AirPods and a PlayStation controller, alongside a WiFi modem he recommended. Despite promising a detailed receipt, Cody only provided a quote, leaving us in the dark about the actual expenses.
The siding and gutters remain unfinished, and our yard is a muddy mess from the irrigation work. We had to complete the caulking and sheetrock around the windows ourselves, and the baseboards Cody reconnected were cut unevenly. The bathroom renovation is also incomplete. Our home is now in worse shape than before, and Cody has left his tools and ladders strewn across our yard, damaging the remaining grass.
Cody's lack of professionalism, integrity, and respect is astonishing. He often worked for only a few hours before leaving and not returning. The distress and inconvenience he caused us are immeasurable. I hope sharing our experience prevents others from enduring similar ordeals. Avoid this contractor and his company at all costs.
Edit: reply to your response;
A few points to clarify:
1. You have not completed a single job that you started in November. The words "did" and “took” are in past tense, implying that the work is finished, which it is not.
2. You did not address the unauthorized purchases for PlayStation controllers and AirPods.
3. You did not address the work we had to complete ourselves just to sit comfortably in our living room and our yard.
4. You did not address that June had to pay for the electricity used for drying equipment. The flood wouldn’t have happened if you had properly supervised your subcontractors' work.
5. You consistently told us you were going to show up on several days and didn’t because of childcare, not because of taking other jobs. Some days you just didn’t show up after you said you would, without any communication at all. It is unprofessional to take on other jobs when you leave a client's house in disarray.
These issues needed to be addressed promptly and professionally while you have accepted that all tasks are being finished by us and our family. Everything stated here is accurate, and while I understand that accidents happen, it is clear that you abandoned this job when we trusted you and needed your assistance the most.
Cody and his team did a great job on my roof. They had the materials on hand ahead of time. They showed up on time the day of the work and knocked it out. They took the effort to keep the area clean and protect the house from falling debris.
Got work done in a timely fashion and extremely reasonably priced. Amazing quality work. Very informative and respectful, would highly recommend.
