I needed to get my roof assessed for damage and the thought of trying to find someone seemed like a daunting task. I started with recommendations from Nextdoor and then to BBB.org. I found several places but heavily relied on a combination of the 2 sites with personal experiences and reviews from other homeowners. I narrowed my search down to 3 places (all appeared highly rated) and called each one after I said a prayer for the best person for my job.

One person would be out of town for almost 2 weeks. The other couldn’t come out until a later date. Rock City Roofing took a message and said a project manager would call me back to schedule. And they did, the very next day. Mr. Dean came out and introduced himself. Very polite, professional and upfront. He climbed on top of my roof and informed me there was indeed damage. He took pictures and showed me so that I could see how extensive the damage was. He explained the process and all of the paperwork in terms that I could understand. He called the insurance company with me and he helped walk me through the entire process.

When the adjuster came out days later, Mr. Dean was on site. That reassured me that the process would go smoother. He and the adjuster spoke with me about next steps and the next week I had a new roof.

Many companies are out there to get over on homeowners but Rock City Roofing has been very transparent throughout the process. I’m thankful for the honesty and professionalism. If you are looking for a team that does quality work, give them a call! You have nothing to lose as the quotes are free! They are licensed, bonded and fully insured as well as great reviews and an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

My roof is fine, but financially I'm pretty screwed.

Rock City roofing will work with your insurance to make a claim to get at least part of your roof paid for. Before they'll start meditating they make you sign paperwork stating you'll use them for the repairs on the claim.

I thought that'd be great, and my project manager repeatedly assured me that it would be okay. It was really difficult trying to pin down exactly what the estimate for repairs were during the process. I think they're trying to run their roofing company like health care, where they inflate the price to try and get the insurance to pay out as much as possible. When I paid my down payment I made it clear to my project manager that anything else would have to be a payment plan. He said he was confident that I wouldn't have to pay more than that.

I did get several quotes on my roof replacement. The same architectural shingle was quoted between $8-9.5K from three different companies. Rock City roofing ended up charging me $14.8K which my insurance didn't even pay half of.

Not only that but the insurance claim caused my insurer to drop me because I was "no longer eligible". Now my yearly homeowner's insurance has doubled in cost, for at least five years until this claim rolls off and I can try and get a better deal.

Immediately after the roof replacement my AC condenser stopped working. They sent someone to check it. The breaker to the condenser burned up. Now I've got to replace that, and they're convinced it had nothing to do with the fact they covered my condenser with a tarp for extended periods of time while it was running. Make of that what you will

Now over Christmas I'm getting letters threatening to turn over my remaining debt to their lawyers. I urge caution to anyone before signing any contacts with this company.

(a) Regarding scope of work and communication:
When I initially discussed my project with your project manager, I specifically stated that I did not want to coordinate with multiple contractors to complete the work outlined in my estimate. I was assured by YOUR representative that your company could and would handle all aspects of the project outlined on the estimate, eliminating the need for me to seek out additional contractors. This assurance played a key role in my decision to move forward with your company. This directly contradicts their claim that replacing my fascia was not part of our original agreement and confirms that it was well within your scope of work.

(b) Authorization to handle insurance and mortgage claims:
The contract I signed with Rock City explicitly grants your company authorization to contact the insurance and mortgage companies on my behalf, supplying any necessary documentation or correspondence to facilitate payment. This provision was clearly outlined in the attached agreement, and it is my understanding that fulfilling these obligations is part of the service your company agreed to provide. As a homeowner, it is not my responsibility to handle correspondence or provide updates to these entities--especially when they are specifically requesting documentation from the contractor, regarding coding updates and prior authorizations before the job begins. While I can contact the insurance company to inquire about payment timelines, the detailed documentation they require to process the payment must come directly from your company, not me.

(c) Expectations vs. performance:
The owner, Matt H. claim is that his company solely focuses on roofing work, this should have been made clear before accepting my payment and committing to the ENTIRE project.

Transparency about your scope of work would have allowed me to make an informed decision and avoided this situation entirely. Additionally, the unprofessional behavior--including the attempts to persuade my husband to have me remove my Yelp review--was inappropriate and still did not address the core issue of miscommunication and unmet expectations.

To clarify further, from May to November, I was repeatedly assured by your project manager that my satisfaction was a top priority and that the issues I raised would be resolved. Despite these assurances, nothing was addressed. As a result, I ultimately hired another roofing company to complete the fascia work who’s quote was $100 cheaper. This demonstrates that my expectations of Rock City were not unreasonable and well within your scope of work. From what was conveyed to my husband, the job would have been done free of charge if I completely removed my review. However, as I told him, it should have been free regardless, considering the bait-and-switch I experienced, and length of time to fulfill this contractual obligation. After receiving the bulk of your payment from the insurance, it was clear there was no intention of completing the remaining promised work. You all clearly were all talk, no action and that is a huge pet peeve of mine. And refusing to take accountability is a second.

Had your company approached me with professionalism over six months ago, and acknowledged the misrepresentation of services, and then completed the contract, this matter could have been resolved without a negative review.

Instead, the lack of accountability has compelled me to share my experience on additional platforms to provide an honest account for future customers.

My rating reflects the stressful experience I had dealing with your company, and I believe it's fair. When you're spending a substantial amount of money, especially in this economy, quality isn't the only factor. I expect quality work AND high level of service, just like the experience you'd get at a Chick-fil-A.

Matt, you are welcome to share your lengthy responses on each platform if you feel it's necessary, although they are like most politician’s responses, as they fail to address the actual issues at hand. Wishing you the best!

I was looking for a roofing company to take care of my roof. Rock City Roofing came through for me. William, Chris and the team made this process smooth and stress less. If I had questions I was able to contact either individual and get answer. The crew had my roof off and back on shortly afterwards. My yard looked the same as if nothing had happened. The crew cleaned up after the job was over and I am pleased with our new roof.

Rock city roofing and I have come to an understanding that we do not agree with each other on the total of my invoice. They will not answer any questions about my invoice. They have manipulated their invoice to over charge for my roof. They are charging for a full roof of felt and a full roof of IWS upgrades on two separate line items. Felt line should have been reduced for IWS upgrades. They added a line item for Starter shingles but again never reduced the shingles line item to account for this. They tried to charge for full replacement of power vents and rain caps but only painted them. They said that since your roof was over insurance estimate they will only charge insurance estimate minus power vents and furnace caps since i had pictures of dents in them and insurance estimates showed price for full replacement. I just feel taken advantage of but unless our insurance fights them i have no ground with them threatening default, 1.5% per week late fees, and lawyers fee. Project manager William Dean decided without consulting us and picked black drip trim. We would have picked offwhite since our house has off white trim.Told us that insurance did not price for full power vent replacement. It would be thousands of dollars if they did which was a lie. Called, email, and texted for payments in which i repeated told him I needed an invoice. I had beed asking for an invoice since 2-26-24 but did not receive one till 4-1-24. My experience with them has not been ideal and has left me very unhappy with the whole experience. I would not recommend them but if you do/did use them I would probably see if they charged you full price for vent and rain caps but only painted them.

Rock City did an excellent job on my roof. Very professional job of explaining the process by the work manager. Workers were great and careful. No damage to bushes, etc. Definately recommend.

Rick City did a great job replacing our roof after the hell storm. The job was done quickly and professionally. They covered my flowerbeds and pool with tarps and made sure everything was cleaned up when the job was done. Sheldon was extremely easy to work with and very responsive to my calls or text!

I had the pleasure of working with Blake at Rock City Roofing after a tree hit my roof. He was out to tarp the roof within hours on a hot, sunny day, despite no rain in the forecast. Well, it rained the next morning and I was thankful to have worked with Rick City Roofing. Blake also pointed out some vent damage the adjuster needed to see, that might have been overlooked.
