Red Roof Inn & Suites DeKalb

My family rented the large conference room this past weekend for a family member’s birthday party. A good amount of family reserved rooms as well to stay for the night/the weekend. Vickie (sp?) the manager, Lynnae who was the front desk attendant for majority of our stay and another girl who was the front desk attendant on Saturday were all very helpful, very professional, and all super kind. The room I stayed in was very nice and very clean. The pool was a nice touch. My family and I enjoyed our stay!

I give them a five star because how lucky I was able to get a room for me and my family especially for the event

Vicky and her team are a secret gem in our community! It is always a pleasure working with them, and they are always incredibly kind, flexible, and gracious.

They were unnecessarily unreasonable about the parking. Staying at the hotel for a football game. Arrived at noon, game at 2. Check in wasn’t until 3. Parking lot was half empty. A man was walking the parking lot with a giant sign saying “we are towing today. $” I go to the lobby, show them the reservation. Can I park even though check in isn’t until 3. Wouldn’t allow it. Couldn’t give me a valid reason. Just no. Our manager said no, they will tow you. Completely unnecessary, the lot was half empty. Check out had already occurred. They didn’t need the parking lot for anything. They just wanted to be difficult for no reason. The manager probably getting a kickback from the towing company out front.

Had a nice and quick stay. Rooms were clean and surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night. Missy at the desk was lovely and nice to talk with, in addition to checking us in easily.

Great prices for last minute. Location is phenomenal. Quiet lodging, they even provide ear plugs for light sleepers. Great customer service. Worth it for the price.

We needed 2 rooms for the IESA State Wrestling Meet. We were notified very late that we had a student qualify so basically all the rooms in town were booked. I talked to Vickie on the phone multiple times over 2 days and she made a miracle happen!!!! She was able to book us 2 rooms. She was amazing to work with! During check-in, the staff was AWESOME!! We were able to check in flawlessly and super quick. Check was the same! I highly, highly recommend Vickie and her staff!!

Once I found the lobby which is hidden inbetween the buildings, I was immediately shouted at for walking through to utilize the bartroom. The bathroom had a walk-in shower that wasn't accessible for handicap persons due to shower seat being blocked by handrail. The seat could not be lowered completely. Sink was entirely to tall. I'm 5'4 and the top of the sink came to my chest. Shower wand had mold underneath the shower head and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a design on the walls or if dirt/grime mold had just been smeared around on the shower walls.

Good Hotel, Excellent Service and Pricing. I arrived before the check in time and the room was already clean, the staff was very very helpful and lovely. The check in process less than 5 minutes, I got a problem with the door lock and it was resolved in 1 minute. The room was clean, the bathroom is big, the bed so comfortable. Also this hotel is close to fast foods, Walgreens, CVS and bars. I have to say that it was a good stay and I will choose this hotel the next time I go from Puerto Rico to Dekalb.

Awful doesn’t even do the word justice to describe this hotel. Firstly, it’s run down with caution tape and plywood everywhere. Secondly, the room door didn’t event open/shut properly and the inside of the room smelled bad. Lastly, It’s RIGHT next to a train. I could feel everything shake immediately when a train went by. I walked into my room then walked right back out and let the front desk know that this wasn’t going to work as I am a combat veteran and can’t handle that while trying to sleep. They refused to refund either of the nights I reserved even though I was in the room for 5 minutes and explained the issue to them. Do not stay here. It’s unsafe.

These are the best group of employees here! They are very professional and they keep this hotel so clean. This is the best hotel I've stayed at. I've stayed at many. They always are very helpful

Very good customer service and a very clean room. No mildew smell. I had a ADA room and plenty of room for my wife and I. Very comfortable with walk-in shower and comfortable king size bed. Front desk ladies are terrific and understanding.

Convenient location, a nice spot for a party, pool was nice. However if you don't like loud noises I suggest you stay near the front because in back is a train track that can get pretty noisy at night time.

The main reason for staying here was the outdoor pool. It was my granddaughter's birthday and thought swimming outdoors would be a fun activity. The motel listing said pool open from memorial day to labor day. When I called and made reservation, I asked if the pool would be open. I was told it was open from memorial day to labor day. We arrived. Beautiful sunny day and 90 degrees. When checking in, the desk clerk mentioned having to monitor the pool, as there was no lifeguard (the usual at a motel). I mentioned that this stay was a destination trip. And this was our destination to go swimming for granddaughter's birthday. I glanced at the pool on the way to our room. Filled with sparkling clear water. Changed into swimsuit and went to pool. That's what we were there to do. Swim and sun! The gate was locked . I went to the front desk and asked them to open the gate. I was told the chemicals had been tested and were out of balance. For my safety the pool would not be available. I asked when it would be checked again, hoping to get to use it eventually. Was told at 11 the next morning. When we'd have to check out and leave. This was June 3. I think the motel should be sure the pool chemicals are in balance for the time they advertise. Room was not fancy, but clean. There were a lot of floor jack posts holding up second level balcony. Some walkways were closed of with yellow caution tape. It appeared that some guests may have been residents. There was one plastic table with a few chairs outside the pool area. Would have liked to use it when having morning coffee, which is available in the lobby, with flavored creamers (nice) but the apparent residents (?) Were using it. I did a survey after returning home, mentioned my disappointment about using pool. I got a response, apology mention I my safety and chemicals, and that I would be sent a gift card. I attempted to reply, to mention that they might want to be sure pool chemicals were in balance prior to memorial day so it would be open when advertised. My email was returned as undeliverable. I've been waiting over a week for the mentioned gift certificate to arrive...

I have never Been so Disrespected in my life for 1 . Ms. Vickey Torres is the rudest Woman I’ve ever spoken too, she is so unprofessional and has no Customer service qualities.. at all I would not Recommend this hotel to anyone if they’re black
Room was nice tub could have been cleaned better

The rooms were clean and comfortable. They provided complimentary tea and coffee in the morning but no breakfast. Amenities included a fitness center and a business center. It was exactly what I'd want from a no frills motel. It was in a safe and quiet area.

Very good room, got a great deal on the price. Staff were very friendly and helpful, a good gym, they have an outdoor pool, but it was not open as it was too cold when I was there. Overall a great stay at this hotel. I would stay here again.

We needed three rooms at the last minute in Dekalb for the IESA Wrestling Tournament. Luckily Red Roof Inn had three rooms available at a descent price. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff was very friendly. The only downside of the hotel was that there was no breakfast, but that was not the end of the world. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a no-frills hotel.

My room was clean and comfy and I would stay here again. Thanks for a great stay!!

I have been staying at this motel for years. The service has always been excellent and the staff is very friendly. It is also an excellent location for events at Northern Illinois University.

Vicky and her staff are awesome. Vicky was able to upgrade us to a suite for our stay. The room was awesome. My son left a gold chain in the room when we left and Vicky called me immediately and mailed it to us. They are a great choice in Dekalb

This place is a bargain - for well under $100 (the price offered on the Red Roof Inn web site where I booked) I got a newly refurbished room that was clean (see exception below) and quiet. I had a standard room with 2 double beds. There was a clean fridge and microwave, cleverly concealed separately in a dresser (took me a bit to find them). Bed could have been firmer, but all the furnishings looked new and were in excellent condition. Plenty of plugs, good work desk, wi-fi worked properly, nice TV, designer sink (but which would be too high for a child to reach, if that matters). I didn't try the shower, but it was clean. Although next to the railroad, the room was surprisingly quiet and I slept well (and I had a room close to the tracks, most rooms are away from/shielded from train noise, and trains do not blow their horns when passing through the town). One plus for me: the a/c has a fan-only setting and will cycle on and off, and is reasonably quiet; my pet peeve is that a lot of motels have a/c's that have to operate continuously or you get no air flow. This made sleeping better. No free breakfast for that bargain price, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance (one on each side of the motel). If COVID is a concern, note that all doors open directly to the outside in this property (they do have an indoor corridor west wing which is not currently in use, I was told they "use it for storage"). Checkin/checkout were both friendly, speedy and simple.||||The property was formerly a Best Western. Although the room was fully updated and spiffy, work needs to be done next on the exterior, which looks run down in places with some sketchy dark breezeways. But the 2-story building is obviously well built - a poured concrete floor (not wood) helped keep the room quiet.||||The only negative turned into a positive: although the room itself was really clean, housekeeping had obviously forgotten to clean the drawers, in which I found some trash from a previous occupant. I mentioned this in a constructive way to the front desk when checking out, and was surprised to receive a personal e-mail from the manager apologizing a day or so later. Good management. Overall, recommended.

Really nice place! Honestly, no complaints other than being close to an active rail way. But I'll take that over domestic disputes any night

This place is gross. We spent a night in a non-smoking room that smelled like cigarettes and it was so humid that the beds and floor were damp all through our stay. We woke up (in an environment not unlike a sauna) and blearily packed up, opening the door to find a beautiful morning a good 15 degrees cooler without any of the humidity we assumed we’d find (tangentially related: the sauna in the lobby is fine).

The exterior walkways need a bit of work the rooms however are quite nice and very clean. All rooms have a mini fridge . microwave and single serve coffee\tea maker. Staff are extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. Even numbered rooms fave the inside of the complex towards the office\pool. Odd numbered rooms run around the outside perimeter. Lots of restaurants nearby. Mcdonalds,Sonic, Popeyes,Happy Wok, Fatty:s(great bar food), Pizza pros.

Loved how the rooms looked, but I had to leave cause super 8 charged a sweeter deal for a room just as nice, can't use up all our perdiem/travel money lol

This is not a 5-star hotel by any means....BUT....
It's older, yet clean, fairly well maintained, and pet friendly. The prices are reasonable, the rooms large, they are conveniently located near just about anything you might need, and the employees are pretty awesome.
There is plenty of free parking, and wi-fi is included. I think there is even coffee and muffins in the lobby every morning, but I haven't been up early enough to go see yet.
The only downside to this place is that it's right by train tracks...like...a train runs by every couple hours within 10 feet of the hotel wall. There are no train whistles, but I still find the noise and vibration unsettling.

They kicked me out because of someone that visited me that had been removed from having a party there which is ridiculous they could have just told him to leave I had nothing to do with it I was a good paying customer I had been there for almost 2 weeks I paid a lot of money and had no idea that he wasn't supposed to be there he didn't tell me and that's besides the fact they could have just told him to leave and I would have been fine with that but no they kicked me out too and I don't even know if they refunded me my money they weren't very accommodating and very rude
