Plyler Homes & Docks just finished building our dock. Eric, Seth, and the entire crew were professional, timely, and efficient. From design to final product, Plyler handled all the details. They double-checked decisions (granite color, roof shingles, boat lift and decking choices) before installing. We appreciated that. Construction is high quality and the design is exactly what we wanted. Highly recommend!!

Although we ended up not utilized Plyer Homes & Docks to build our dock due to us selling our property, I would highly recommend them for their professionalism, expertise, and solid communication.

I have spoken with countless others who have utilized this company and they have been nothing but happy. This includes both clients who have only had a dock built and clients who have had homes built. The owner, Erik, is a sincere and genuine person who wants to make sure people love the end product. I would highly suggest them to anyone!

I had Plyler come out and design/quote a dock for me. Plyler was one of 4 dock builders I had quote. Plyler was the first builder to visit the property, yet the last company to submit their quote (this was after having to chase them and remind them to submit a quote).

After I received the design, it wasn’t what we had discussed at length during the 45 minute meeting. During that meeting, I had showed them a picture of a square dock that I’d like them to recreate, but the design they submitted was of a rectangular dock. I suspect they simply reused an old drawing to expedite their submission as they were late.

I reminded them of the fact it wasn’t square as I had requested, so they re-drew it and submitted a new design. This time they had placed the PWC lift in the wrong location (blocking the view of the water). Again, during the 45 minute meeting, we discussed specifically placing the lifts on the opposite side to prevent blocking the view).

I am aware of the fact that these are first world problems, but for $120,000 I expect much more attention to detail and professionalism.

Erik Plyler runs a great business. I needed a new dock built on the lake and he came out to my house and surveyed the situation. He made excellent suggestions and provided several designs. He helped me narrow down the features to get the dock to fit within my price range. He took care of everything including permitting with both Bedford County and AEP and working with the surveyors. He told me approximately how long the entire process would take (and yes the AEP permitting takes 4-6 weeks) and his schedule estimates were spot on. Erik had said it would take his team three weeks to complete the job once the permits were approved; they were finished in two and a half weeks. His team pulls up on a big barge with a crane. They remove the old dock, drive the pilings for the new one, and then get to work on the dock, lift, and roof. They also cut a deep trench up the steep slope to the house and ran electric to the dock for the lift. We love our new dock. I strongly recommend Plyler for a positive, pain-free experience.

Service questions

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
