Ottawa's Affordable Roofing and Small Repairs (OAR)

Wanted to post a shout out to Yves and his expert team (Yannick & Jesse) for a spectacular job .... small in scope ... big in impact. We needed some soffit repair (nasty critters) work done and a fan exhaust cap replaced (family of starlings moved out finally - evicted). I looked around ... big contractor and local hero. Both passed for different reasons but not OAR ... they actually did this work on their way home for the day. Managed to do everything without the old "we'll be back tomorrow with materials". These men tackled the separate jobs with that old US Marine cry .. Improvise, Adapt, Overcome. My bathroom fan issue required ingenuity to solve - Yannick sorted that on the fly. Meanwhile Jesse tackled a soffit "assault" by a big-ass raccoon who wanted to move into my attic. It took skill, perseverance and vigilance to solve ... Jesse was just what the Doctor ordered (that would be me, by the way), eh?
Today it's getting harder and harder to find skilled, dedicated professionals who will tackle these "small" jobs that old folks like us are reluctant to take on ourselves here in The Burbs. reasonable pricing, enthusiastic and on schedule, so far so good and will wait to see how it holds up in upcoming storms but with a 2 year warranty should be ok for now.

We had a great experience with Ottawa’s Affordable Roofing (OAR) Their technician (Yannick) arrived promptly and on time to check out a problem we were having with a blocked roof vent. He quickly discovered it was caused by snow blocking the vent. He not only cleared the blockage but then went out to buy an extension so that the problem would not reoccur.
This was our first time dealing with this company and we would not hesitate to call them again for any future roofing issues. Highly recommended.

This is the second time we use ARR services. This time we needed to repair a flashing in an area that was difficult to access. They arrived quickly on site and were able to screw in the flashing with no issue until we noticed some noises in the soffits from a squirrel that was now trapped in our roof. The guys promptly undid their work to leave an escape route for the animal, made some noise to chase it away, and once we saw it escape by the same flashing hole they screwed it back up, saving both our roof and the animal’s life. Thanks again for a job well done.

By far the best price in Ottawa for roofing. I've called them twice and they did a great job of replacing my shingles and cleaning my gutters.

Overall excellent experience with OAR redoing the roof of our shed. Very quick response from Cindy to get a quote, book a date and send all paperwork. The job was well done, coupled with thorough cleaning afterwards.

Had some soffit damage at back of my house . Contacted OAR and they got back to me right away .
Sent them photos of damage and they provided an estimate which was literally 1/5th of a competitors quote .
Another company couldn’t come until July .
OAR came the next day and fixed the damages according to the quote .
Extemely convenient and professional.
Everything done by text, didn’t even have to be home when work was done.

Great, quick and friendly service. I emailed in the morning to have a small roof repair done. Cindy called and emailed me right back and Yanik came out in the afternoon, quoted me a fair price and fixed the problem same day. While he was here he did a roof inspection for me, included pictures, and made one other little repair. I am very pleased.

The process dealing with this company was so easy- from quick response of emails and quotes to the install and clean up of our shingles being replaced. We are very happy to have found this company and highly recommend. March 2024 replacement.

If there were an option to give zero stars, that would be my choice for this review.

Be cautious with this contractor. While his initial response time is prompt when seeking new business, his follow-through on warranty promises is sorely lacking. He has missed multiple scheduled appointments, only taking action when threatened with negative reviews.

He worked on the roof of my rental property, and it has consistently leaked after heavy rain each year, with water seeping from the chimney down to the basement, causing significant damage to the walls. Despite annual calls for repairs, which he assured would last for at least five years, the issue persists. On numerous occasions, he failed to show up for confirmed appointments, leaving my tenant waiting and frustrated.

His assurances have proven to be false. Almost every year, my tenant reports the same problem. I've had to repeatedly deal with his excuses and unreliable service. Last year, after claiming to have fixed the roof, assuring a five-year resolution, it leaked yet again.

This year, after yet another leak report, I hired a different contractor for an inspection. The photos provided showed that the previous work involved only temporary caulking, poorly applied, without addressing the underlying issue.

This contractor's reliability and honesty are in question, and I strongly advise against using his services.

Contacted OAR to get a quote to caulk my chimney stack. They were prompt and showed up to provide me a very fair quote and were able to do the work right away. Not only did they caulk my stack but also went above and beyond going over my roof to look for any issues. I would hire this company again and will recommend them to friends and family. Thank you

Yves was very helpful and responsive for my roof repair job, he was easy to deal with and his pricing was reasonable, I would highly recommend his service.

Be very careful with this company or particularly this guy who own the company, their price might be "affordable" when they are taking money from you. And yes, he will be very responsive when you are paying him. But after he take your money and finish it at the fist time. Expect no more service like customer care or warrant from him other than frustration afterward. We had our roof done by a company called A+ professional roofing inc. at 2015 with a 20 year warrant ($8000.00 Contract). the company was owned by this guy(Yves) and another partner. Soon after, the two guys split the company and existing customer. And we were told that our warranty will be take care by Yves and his new company. From that time on its all frustration.

First, shingles start to fail off starting from the second year, up to today, we saw shingles failing from roof 5 times in total. Every time, it took at least 1 month + for them to come to fix it. And every time, they promise that they will check around to make sure no more shingles will fail. And some more is failing down soon.

Early this year, more shingles failed down around almost exactly the same area that then fixed last year (and promised to check around). After multiple emails and never answered phone calls, their first response comes 1 month after my first email. After that, Yves promised at least 4 times that they will come ("1000% in his word") on different date and every time its a no show without any follow up message till we email them to ask what happened. Finally, they DID came and fixed the roof after almost 3 month. And he promised that he will check around the area to make sure not more defects.

One month after, one more pieces fall down at exactly the same spot. We email again (with pictures) at the July 28th.
Again from end of July till now (Nov 6) I probably have send him more than a dozen emails and many phone calls( which is never answered).
He did about 4-5 times emailed back and promised that he will fix it in few days/next week/tomorrow but never show up so far and each time no follow up message. or give some excuses like he car is busted, his finger was injured, etc. Anyway, on Oct 22, I send him another email asking him to fix my roof be end of Oct or I will have to look for someone else to fix my roof, but I will have to give him a bad review on Google. Guess what, he email back and says that I am "BACKMAILING" him, and I am harassing him.

He promised again twice after that that he will come to fix in few days, but he just silently ate his word after.

So, I guess I have to hire someone else to fix my roof and I will ask him to check what is wrong on that area. I will update here about the result.

Yves responded to my enquiry right away and came out to inspect my roof because of some water we were seeing. Fixed everything right up, and assisted with my eaves! Amazing, friendly and professional. Now my "go to" roofing company for sure!

I learned the hard way don't pay till completed.
Has not completed the Drip edge around the house and he refuses to complete the job. I am still missing 2 feet of drip edging. He has ask for more money to complete the job that he has been payed for. I would like to add , I question his warranty practice

I called this company based on the good reviews, unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. This guy (Yves), called me, I explained that our rental property had a roof leak and I that I lived far from Orleans, but we agreed on a date and he scheduled a visit from 12-2pm last Thursday but he never showed up, he called me around 7pm to tell me that he was on his way! so I reminded him that I did not live there and that I waited for him for 2 hours in the afternoon as planned but let me tell you, this guy didn't even care, he said that I had to understand the nature of his business and that previous repairs took longer than expected, I said I understood that fully but I would have appreciated a call to re-schedule, cancel, or something! I had taken time off work and I waited for him for hours... honestly, he did not even care and he actually hanged up on me after I told him that the only reason I called him was because of his good reviews but I did not support them .... I guess he has enough work these days and I clients must understand that.

Service was great and so was the price! Another Orleans roofing company was taking advantage of people requiring assistance. I will be needing a new roof in the next few years and won't hesitate to hire OAR.

I was so happy when Yves managed to squeeze me in when I called about my roof leaking into my bedroom in my new house. It turned out that the area around the chimney had not been sealed properly and the chimney had no saddle, so the issue had probably been reoccuring for awhile (I realize now that it looks like the previous owner had painted over stains in the bedroom, but had declined to properly fix the roof!). The roof was a mess around the chimney so rather than patching, Yves and his team returned with materials to replace some shingles, build up a saddle and seal around the chimney. It looks great and I really liked that I was shown a lot of pictures before and after so I could feel confident about what was going on. And it really was affordable!

Called for a minor repair and it was completed just in time for the rain. Job well done and Yves was great following up to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.

Called and booked on a Thursday, got an appointment for the following Tuesday. Got an email on Saturday stating “I will call on Sunday to book an appointment” which I originally thought nothing of and figured was sent in error.

Come the appointment time on Tuesday, they never showed up. Called twenty minutes after expected arrival time to only leave a message. What a shame.

We had a roof leaking and needed it repaired last minute. They came, quickly repaired it same day and were on their way. Thank you.

Yves and his crew worked hard completed the shingling on budget and communication was ok, roof was completed on time with out any major problems. F.Y.I make sure you the consumer always check the quality of the work when completed, don't trust or take anyone's word for it. It could save you headaches and money in the future.

Nothing but 5 stars for Nick, Alex and the rest of the team of OAR. Wanted a local roofer and checked out OAR on the web. Great reviews so decided to go with them. Had OAR do my shed and gazebo roof and was very pleased with the whole experience. They showed up when they said with all the materials and went right to work and did a great job then cleaned up so it looks like no one was in the yard. Workmanship was excellent the price was very competitive and the whole team were friendly and easy to talk to. Yes I definitely recommend them and will have them back for my next roofing or small repair job.

UPDATE: Saw this company's response just now. To clarify, the guy never showed up, he did eventually returned our call and told us that too many people wanted his services and that he was not able to honour his appointment. Don't agree on something if you cannot keep your promise! Anyway, at the end, we found some eager young professional who came right away and put the blown soffits back in. Easy.

Great, fast service. After the recent tornado in Orléans I had a couple of rows of shingles missing and bare wood exposed on the roof. I called the OAR the next afternoon and they were there in a couple of hours, gave me a reasonable estimate and then completed the repairs right away. I am very happy with the work and that it was done so fast before I had to worry about rain getting in.

Contacted due to my roof leaking. OAR came promptly for a quote. I opted to move forward with OAR and have been ghosted ever since causing more than another week of water leaking inside my house. If you can't do the work, just let the customer know, especially when their roof is LEAKING.

Fixed a problem a previous company could not resolve. Yves was very professional experienced and prompt even tarped problem area as issue came about during a busy time for him and as soon as he was available which was only a few days later fixed issue at a fair rate. Would highly recommend

Called OAR for a quote on a few missing shingles repair last week. Yves came to finish the job 2 days after, and charged as estimated. Honesty and professional service. Highly recommend OAR to my friends and family.

After some of our shingles blew off the roof in a recent thunderstorm July 2nd, we were trying to reach and get support from the company that originally installed the roof as well as a few others but unfortunately no responses. Yves was in the neighbourhood and noticed that we were missing shingles and reached out to us personally. He came as soon as possible and took care of all repairs and ensured there were no further issues with our roof. Great service, will recommend this company to friends and family!

He seemed to really know what he was talking about, and even charged less than he had originally quoted when he determined that the scope of work was less than anticipated. I had this company install skylights in my home only to find that they were leaking into the attic. I called the owner as his work was guaranteed for 10 years. He came back to fix the problem, however his "fix" did not solve the issue. I contacted him to let him know that the problem was not fixed and there was still a leak. I proposed some options to fix the problem but never heard back from the company.

Since then I had 3 other roofers come by to have their opinion on the issue. All three roofers stated the same thing - the skylight flashing and ice and water shield were not properly installed the first time. When talking to the company about the installation he assured me that it was done properly but it may be the skylight which was "broken". I believe that this was done to convince me that there was a problem with the hardware and not the installation.

The bottom line - paid this company to install the skylights, paid this company to do minor repairs to the skylight (although the work was guaranteed!!), now I'm stuck paying another company to redo the work that should have been done correctly the first time.

I would never recommend OAR to anyone for this reason. Buyer Beware.

Called OAR for a quote and they came by and provided a written estimate for a skylight replacement. I called Yves back to accept the quote, and he said he'd get back to me with an ETA on installation. I called him back a few days later because I didn't hear back and I left him a message. No word a few days later I called him back and left another message. It's been over a week and he never got back to me. Absolutely horrible service! Buyer beware
