We are very happy with the job Neighborhood Painting did painting the exterior of our house. They were very professional and did an excellent job. I highly recommend them.
Our 1913 house (originally stucco) had vinyl siding installed decades ago that was in a state of decay. Neighborhood Painting and Restoration worked with us to remove the vinyl siding, repair the original stucco, and ultimately restore our house to its original facade. The project was a tremendous amount of work, but their crew stuck with us through completion after two months of grueling work. The outcome is beautiful and we could not be happier with what the team was able to accomplish. If they can restore our house, I can imagine they can do just about anything-- highly recommend!
I had high hopes for Neighborhood Painting, especially being somewhat in my backyard (Bonner Springs) but unfortunately, my experience has been frustrating and disappointing.
Everything started off on the right foot. Jacob, (owner), came on time for a proposal on February 4th, 2025, and answered all my questions. I was told the job would be a few weeks out due to weather delays and would take about three days once work started. I was completely fine with that and understood.
On February 17th, the proposal was received and on February 22 a deposit was made. Shortly thereafter, on the February 25th I received an email confirming that the work was scheduled to begin on April 2nd.
Fast forward to April 2nd no one showed up. I called around 9:30 AM to inquire and was told by the receptionist she would check with Jacob and have him reach out to me, by 10 AM, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I called again. This time, the receptionist said she had reached out to Jacob and would request a call back again. Finally, around 10:45, Jacob called me and explained that due to a system change, my deposit and scheduling got “lost” and that the April 2nd date was an error. He then told me he could get me on the schedule within two weeks. I found this completely unacceptable, as I had placed my deposit in late February and had been told by a company generated email of an April 2nd start date, that mentioned “If anything changes, we will inform you promptly”. Jacob mentioned he’d try to find a crew to start the next day, April 3rd, and reassured me the work would still take three days to get complete.
Later that evening, I received an email stating that the crew would arrive around noon on April 3rd, but they actually showed up around 9 AM.
On April 3rd, around 3:30 PM, the crew lead informed me they don't typically work Fridays. And asked that I call the office. I called and spoke with the foreman who confirmed that they don’t usually work Fridays because they operate on a four-day, ten-hour workweek and don’t pay overtime. This was a red flag for me, especially since the work had been delayed by the company’s mistake. When I pushed back and insisted that I needed the work done, I asked Jacob to call me to discuss the situation.
Jacob called around 5 PM and said he would approve the overtime but would need to adjust the quote to account for the added labor costs. I was caught off guard and upset that he would even suggest an increase in the quote due to their MISTAKE! I reminded him that none of this would have happened if they had started on the promised date. After some back and forth, Jacob agreed to approve the overtime but seemed to imply the financial side was still negotiable, something I didn’t appreciate.
Fast forward to April 4th, I received an email early in the AM stating my project was “coming to a close,” and the foreman would inspect the work to ensure everything was in order. This is laughable because the actual painting hadn’t even started yet.
All in all, this was an incredibly frustrating experience. Communication has been poor, and the company’s inability to stick to the schedule they initially promised has caused a significant disruption to our life. I would not recommend this company to anyone based on my experience. The lack of accountability and professionalism has been disappointing, and the way they tried to pass on additional costs due to their errors is unacceptable.
I was originally planning to inquire about a few other paint jobs, including a deck, downstairs (which had previously been quoted), and exterior work. However, after this experience, I will be looking elsewhere. My neighbor also asked me about my satisfaction with the company, and I shared my poor experience with communication and the many issues I’ve faced. I would advise anyone considering this company to look at other options.
