Our roof sustained wind damage and we found asphalt shingles in our yard.  We initiated an insurance claim and called a few roofing companies to provide free quotes.  MRC Roofing wasn’t the cheapest quote we received but because of the thoroughness of the quote with pictures, notes and materials used for the job we went with MRC and it was a good thing also because Jon at MRC provided enough information about our roof to the insurance company that they did in fact settle on our claim for a new roof.  MRC came recommended by Poncho’s Solar.  Poncho’s and MRC worked hand in hand to coordinate the job with as little downtime as possible for both our PV electric and hot water solar systems on the roof that needed to be detached and re-attached.  The insurance claim also included money for the solar scopes.  MRC was able to complete the job in one day and I had a new roof.  Our original roof was a lite color but years of algae had turned it black and made for a hot living space in our high ceiling living room.  Our attic was hot also.  Jon took a laser temperature reading for us and showed the attic to be well over 100 degrees.  We now have a solar attic fan also and our living room is noticeably cooler.  I would highly recommend MRC Roofing.

MRC was very thorough with our small yet very technical flat roofing problem. We had a small structural issue that was causing our eave and fascia to sag. Jon at MRC had a plan to solve the issue with a step by step plan my husband and myself were able to remedy ourselves in order to shore up the sagging roof eave before it could be reroofed with new 3-ply modified bitumen rolled roofing that tied into our steep pitched roof that has three layers on it (difficult tie-in). There were three skylights that needed to be water tightened in the process and the skylights turned out to be tricky one piece skylights that tied into the interior of the ceiling. MRC found more rotten wood than was expected in the roof decking and they were able to replace that also, at minimal charge. I now have a structurally sound eave, new roof with a 30 year life expectancy and a new post to hang flowers from, yay MRC!

MCR was able to help me with securing a new insurance policy by inspecting my existing roof and providing a roof report proving that my existing roof did not need to be re-roofed and had plenty of life still left in it. MRC has provided me with a great benefit. Not only do I feel secure that my current roof is in fine shape, but I am now able to haggle with insurance companies for a lower rate and higher coverage. Hello, I just wanted to write a quick note to inform everyone about MRC Roofing. MRC has reroofed my house and my mother’s house over the last two years with new asphalt shingles. They worked with my insurance companies to provide the replacements due to wind damage and damage caused by termite tenting. They even provided new guttering and some painting where it was needed. I can’t recommend MRC high enough. My houses look great and there’s no more leaking. MRC even put me in contact with a great interior painter to remedy the water staining. We needed a new roof 26 years after MRC had last done our roof. We worked with Mark Hill to find a roof coating that would cool our house. He recommended a product called Permalock Metal roofing and a silicone coating for our flat roof. We have had the roof for 1 year and this summer has been nice and cool. MRC repaired our old roof eight years ago and just recently I needed some documentation concerning the roofing contract and warranty for that work. I called their office and guess what, they still had my file on hand and were able to provide me with the documentation that I needed within minutes. I bet most roofing companies in Hawaii couldn’t do that. Heck, I bet most roofing companies go out of business within five years and don’t keep any files. I’m so glad we chose MRC to coat our roof with silicone. We have been leak-free ever since, and our top floor stays a lot cooler than it previously was, since now the roof is reflective. Coating the roof also prevented us from having to perform a costly tear off and reroof. This was a major cost savings and has already paid for itself in lower energy costs. Another nice thing about the silicone is that it is easy to keep clean. The dirt and algae doesn’t stick to it. You can’t stop algae here in Hawaii but with a hose and a broom it comes right off.

I split my time between my two homes. one on the mainland, the other in Hawaii. As you can imagine, trying to find someone to repair your home from a distance can prove to be quite challenging.

I sit on the board of directors of my high-rise condominium in Waikiki. Ten years ago we re-roofed our building with a single-ply system even though my old Army buddy. Jon at MRC roofing, told me not to do that because single ply roofs don’t hold up to harsh tropical climate in Hawaii. He was right, but the rest of the board was swayed by the high-pressure single-ply salesman. Now here we are second roof ten years later. We listened to Jon this time. We went with a 3-ply modified bitumen cap sheet system. He says this particular roof system will most likely outlive me. I believed him ten years ago and I believe him now, especially after our previous terrible roofing experience. We are now in litigation in litigation with the single-ply company due to flooding in the penthouses. Jon said we may need to coat this new 3-ply roof with silicone in about 30 years, which is fine by me as long as we don’t have to dismantle our chiller units and do another tear off. Well Quarantine is boring. What should we do? I know, let’s replace the shoddy roof on our Airbnb in Hawaii. That should be fun. Good grief. Haha. Who’s the best roofer? I don’t know but MRC Roofing keeps popping up, so let’s call’em. We manage our Airbnb as much as possible and don’t rely much on property managers to make phone calls for us, so we choose contractors based on how well they communicate. We called a few roofers. Some didn’t answer the phone and some didn’t answer our questions. MRC was the best communicator out of the bunch, so that’s who we chose. Much to our delight, their field operation kept us in the loop as much as the salesman and office personnel. The whole operation went smooth from start to finish and the timing was perfect because we didn’t have any guests staying in our vacation house at the time until the day MRC was finished and we were able to have guests check in the day after they said they would be done with the roof. How awesome was that? I highly recommend MRC and put them on the Airbnb preferred contractors list for Oahu. Aloha!

MRC Roofing sure is RAD and helped me out. I live in South Dakota but I have a rental property on North Shore thats roof started leaking. They scheduled to go look at it the same day I called them! Wow! Jon, their salesman, took a bunch of high definition pictures and notes and sent me a free roof report and proposal to re-roof. Of course I was hoping that it would just be a small repair, but I guess my neglect of the roof over the years, and falling coconuts had done real damage. Jon even went in the attic and found some huge rats that had made a home in there. He gave me the number of a good and cheap exterminator kid just starting out as a rodent killer or something. My tenants no longer complain of rats in the attic. Now I have a new roof with a transferable NON-PRORATED warranty FOR THE NEXT FORTY YEARS! Some shingle factory in Oregon (Malarkey Roofing Products) now owns my roof for the next four decades. RAD! So if you're looking for a good roofing company and don't ever want to have to worry about your roof again. Call these guys. I did, and I just wish they did windows also. LOL.

MRC reroofed by backroom of my residence 5 years ago. I constructed a separate recreation room and needed a roofer to do the job quickly and reasonably. My general contractor asked to subcontract with a different roofer but I declined and went with MRC. I was pleased with MRC's quality, professionalism and responsiveness and will use them again if I need to reroof other parts of my residence.

MRC Roofing did a fabulous job replacing my roof. Mike Chu kept tabs on the work the entire time. Superintendent Wayne Yamashita constantly kept in communication keeping me informed and answering my questions. Their foreman Vince kept the work going so professionally. Followed the schedule to a T doing exactly what they said they were going to, and then some. After they were gone you could not tell any “construction activity” had gone on. MRC’s crew did a fabulous clean-up too. My neighbor across the street talked about how professional they were and that they did not impact the neighborhood at all. I am so glad I picked them and highly recommend MRC to anyone.

I'm so thankful to Jon my roofing guy! I'm a bit late writing my review but in June when it was raining for almost a week my roof started leaking. Well to be honest it had been but that week was the worst and my buckets weren't doing the trick anymore. I called a few places and got quotes but when I called MRC roofing this guy Jon answered the phone and actually cared about my dilemma. He didn't make me feel like I should have done this a while ago nor did I feel like I was being taken advantage of (being a single female). Let’s talk about putting the customer first for a minute. But first let me tell you about the house that I grew up in - it was old and the roof was falling apart but it had a lot of love. Rain and termites were taking apart the roof bit by big bit over the years, until finally last year, it just got to the point of no return. Little fixes would not help anymore and we decided that we needed to take the step of getting a new roof.
I was initially daunted by having to search for a roofing company that I could trust would do a good job. Thank goodness for MRC and Jon Vaughn. From the first moment, we met to discuss options and estimates, I felt very comfortable. He was willing to listen to all of my questions and concerns. It was more like talking to a friend rather than an estimator.

It’s all about the granules. Do you want to know about roofing? Then learn about granules! I had no idea that the granules on an asphalt shingle are what protect the entire thing from the sun and elements... but wait, there’s more! Some granules fight algae and some granules reflect ultraviolet radiation from our sun. What you don’t want is granule loss. When you lose granules, you lose life span of the shingle. If i learned one thing about this re-roofing project, it’s definitely granules!

I used to think that a roofing shingle was just a piece of floppy stuff. I found out that there is cutting edged research going into the development of making even better shingles. The shingles of the future are going to be awesome, and do you know why? Granules!

I remodeled my house recently as an owner builder, which means I didn't use a general contractor to coordinate all the construction. Some of the subs doing work on my house were Primadonnas, such as the electrician who required a standing ovation every time he wiped his own backside. MRC Roofing on the other hand, came in, coordinated with the other subs, communicated their role with everybody and directed traffic smoothly with the other subs, even the electrician. The electrician had to be told everyday that he couldn't park his truck in the driveway because of all the materials that needed to come off of the roof and back onto the roof. MRC did this with out strangling the electrician. That one example of on the job leadership alone was enough for me to be compelled to write this review. And oh yeah, the roof turned out perfect by the way.

I used to have a nice green shingle roof about 25 years ago, but then the algae took over at some point and turned it black. I called MRC because it was about time to reroof and they discovered wind damage, which turned out to be covered by my insurance company. I basically got a new green roof for the cost of my deductible, and the shingles they used now come with SCOTCHGUARD algae resistance, so I guess we'll see how tough this Hawaiian algae really is. It should be interesting because I myself am half Scottich and half Hawaiian. Aloha

MRC roofing helped my sister out when she was in a jam. My sister and her family were off-island when high winds messed her roof. MRC installed emergency temporary roofing that kept my sister's place dry until the insurance company could settle the claims.

had a totong corrugated metal roof that was rusting out and leaking. Thankfully my rafters were in good shape and could handle the weight of adding plywood to my roof in order to meet building code. MRC installed solar reflective CertainTeed shingles over the plywood. Certainteed's website lists MRC as a 5-star rated installer and is able to provide me with a 25 year labor & material warranty if I wanted to pay for it. Well I'm a cheap-o so I didn't opt for the 5-star warranty because I figured if MRC is one out of only a hand full of roofers qualified to even provide a Cadillac type warranty then I bet their workmanship is top notch. I asked if there would be anything different in the kinds of materials used on my roof if I had opted for the extra 5-star warranty. They showed me an underlayer that they would have to install over the plywood first before the shingles went down. It was a thin plastic sheet. The thin plastic sheet would have to be used instead of the 30 pound felt. I was familiar with felt paper but I had never seen this plastic stuff. They showed me how the thick felt sealed around the roofing nails when they are hammered in. The plastic probably does the same thing but they told me that the roofing plastic hasn't been on the market long enough to prove that it is the way to go. I feel comfortable knowing I have felt on my roof (proven material) vs. plastic (only a few years in the industry).

I feel like I got a heck of a deal with MRC Roofing.

MRC Roofing just installed a brand of shingles on my roof called Malarkey Legacy. Usually when I hear the word malarkey I think baloney, but these shingles are beautiful and after reading some unbiased roofing blogs, I see that most roofers prefer to install Malarkey Legacy shingles because they have a larger "nail zone", making it easier for the roofer to install them. Plus they have a rubberized asphalt which keeps them pliable in their late stages of life instead of getting brittle.

I'm proud to say that I'm now full of Malarkey, at least my roof is anyway.

MRC also used six stainless steel ring shanked nails on each shingle which gives them a 130 mile per hour wind warranty. Something tells me that this roof is going to outlive me and I'll never have to deal with roofing again. MRC wasn't the cheapest roofing bid I got, but if I never have to re-roof again, then aren't they actually the cheapest?!?!?

MRC conducted an inspection on a property we were considering buying and turned up significant issues not revealed by a very thorough general inspector. Mike and Jon were patient with our many questions, eminently knowledgeable about the condition of the property, and gave us a clear and timely estimate of the costs to repair the roof. I would not recommend this roofing company at all!! If you want nothing but problems, poor workmanship and no customer service then go ahead and use them. Michael Chu is the owner and will argue with you instead of helping fix the situation and make it better. I wish I never used them and I am still having the problem with my roof after 2 years of trying to get him to put a ridge vent up instead of the solar fan that would have cost more and did nothing to help cool down my house like he promised. There are so many other roofing companies to choose from so save yourself the headache and cross MRC roofing off your list of choices. I have had noting but grief with the owner. HORRIBLE!!

I had a good experience with this roofing contractor in Honolulu HI. They came on time and installed a new roof faster than they told us it could take. The promotional offer was just fine and our budget was enough for quality roof.
