From the first communication from Desta to completed installation, Independent Energy had been amazing. I had just moved into a new build and I hadn't received my first month's bill from HECO yet. But I knew I wanted to install a PV system right away. I emailed them through their website to inquire. Desta emailed me back in about a day.

We discussed my goals of trying to be off grid. I received a rough estimate with the amount panels I needed to produce about "$400" per month. But I wanted to futureproof my house as much as possible and so I decided to go with more panels than the quote. Desta came out to do a site survey with a drone and took pictures. I received a proposal fairly quickly, and had an agreement. Desta was very nice and informative.

Over the next month or so, I received emails from Independent Energy about submission of the proposal to get both HOA and HECO approval. Communication between Desta and his team was easy and responsive. Once both the HOA and HECO approvals went through, I was able to schedule installation.

Installation took 2 days. The crew was very nice. The installation didn't go 100% as planned because the attic was sprayed with so much insulation foam that it made it very dangerous to route the conduit with the risk of a worker getting stuck. If there were any modifications to the plan, Mike the foreman, made sure to get homeowner's approval first. After installation, the crew cleaned up very well. No rubbish was left behind. Mike went over the PV system and using the Tesla app. Desta, in the area, came by to the house to personally say hi and checking to see how things were going and if I had any questions.

From start to finish, the whole process was seamless and stressless. I would recommend Independent Energy for anyone looking to free themselves from the grid and looking for renewable energy.

I'd recommend Independent Energy to anyone in the market of installing solar panels and/or a battery. I gotten several quotes and visits before deciding on Independent Energy, and I can say without a doubt that they were the most knowledgeable and gave the most competitive price. Highly recommended for all your solar and battery needs! What really sold us in the beginning was our initial meeting with Desta, where he emphasized his company’s values, including making sure his customers were taken care of even after installation. And true to his word, we did get follow-ups after installation to ensure that all our questions were answered and that we were satisfied with their service. We expected the whole process to take a few months at least but from signing the contract to final walkthrough, everything was completed just at the 2 month mark! Mike and his crew were excellent to work with on our installation day and even came back to take care of some issues that arose. Overall, I would highly recommend Independent Energy!

We live up in a rural area on the westside. Sales people walk our area trying to sell solar to the homes that don’t have them. I wasn’t quite happy reading the reviews on those companies and because it is such an important investment we decided to wait. My son found Independent Energy Hawaii when he was doing his research online on solar companies. He told me to check their website because there were a lot of excellent reviews. I read the reviews and decided to call for an estimate and we are so happy that I called them.

I can’t say how much I appreciate Taryn. She came out and answered all of our questions was patient enough to explain to us what we didn’t understand. She was able to provide us a system that would work for our family. She stayed in touch with me through out the whole process and is STILL answering my calls when we are trying to figure out our new system. She is AWESOME!

Mike and the crew came out to install our system last week. I can’t say enough about all of them. They showed up early and stayed all day. They were respectful and their work area was clean. They worked diligently installing our system and even stopped to answer all of my crazy questions.

On a side note: Yesterday morning, I woke up about 3:45am because the cats were fighting. I got out of bed and yelled out the window at them and then noticed the whole mountain was pitch black! No street lights on. I woke up my husband and told him that the electricity was off and he looked at me like I was dumb and said no the fan is still on. I told him to look out the window. When my kids woke up about 5, I told them okay the electricity is out make sure you drive down the valley safely, they looked at me and said what? I told them to look out the window. They didn’t realize that we were the only house with electric! THANK YOU SO MUCH❤️. I was so happy to have electricity from solar!!

Independent Energy came to our house and changed our meter location. We needed to do this in preparation for a solar system install. They coordinated the permitting and power shutoff with HECO and the job was finished in one day. We are happy with the quality of their work.

I just completed installation of a PV system with Tesla batteries for back up through Independent Energy and they did a fantastic job from beginning to end. Our first contact was with James Escobido who listened to our ideas and objectives and then presented five proposals with various panel and battery options as well as providing project estimates, calculations of energy production, savings and tax incentives. Great job James! Once we selected our system, project manager, Sean Dagan, got the plans submitted and approved by City & County and HECO. Our goal was to have the system installed before the end of 2024 and Sean made it happen. Thank you Sean! Our installation was scheduled to be completed in 2 days. It's quite obvious that the crew who did the actual on site installation had done this many times before. They were organized, professional, highly skilled, neat and worked well together. The roof crew did the roof penetration and installed the rails on the first day and then the panels. wiring and conduits on the second day. The electricians were on the side of the house installing the batteries, wiring and conduits. The crew even painted the conduits with our left over paint so that it matches the house color. Everything looks and performs great guys!!! But how does the system perform? I've been monitoring the system using the Tesla and Netzero apps and let me tell you, I couldn't be happier. Since the batteries first passed 20% charge, the house has not used anything from the grid. In fact, the battery charge only drops 30-35% over night. If the grid went down for an extended period of time....days or weeks, even months, we should have no problem running everything in the house like normal. Thank you Independent Energy. I highly recommend your company.

We have used Independent Energy Hawaii TWICE now. We had 16 panels, and two batteries installed on our former home, and now just installed another system with batteries on our new home. In both cases, the team was exceptional. Our sales rep (we used him both times), James Escobido, was trustworthy and knowledgeable about everything solar, HECO, program options, financing, etc. He went over a variety of scenarios and options until we were absolutely comfortable with the system and plan. He was very patient and not pushy. And he made sure we could get our solar installed before the end of the year, which was important to us! Sean Dagan (also our operations person both times) at the coordination side of things was on top of each step and would email, text, call and keep us informed of what they needed, what the status was, and of course any information and scheduling for our project. I knew I could always get ahold of him in a timely manner and that everything was under control and being performed according to plan. The installation crew was amazing. They were all so friendly and competent to answer my questions. The crew was neat, on time, and cleaned up completely at the end of each day and they were courteous at all times. Any adjustments needed on site, even minor ones, would be explained and authorized by me before they did it making everything transparent and clear for everyone. We had a crew of 5 and I cannot remember all of their names but the three I spoke with most (Mike, Soren, Dave) were all very knowledgeable and professional in every conversation. I would HIGHLY recommend this company. For reference, I used SunRun/Revolusun on a home about 15 years ago before knowing about Independent Energy and that experience was not even comparable to the excellent service that we have received with Independent Energy. The absolute best company. From the start to finish. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and knowledgeable. They listened to exactly what we needed and informed us of the best option for the batteries which are needed due to someone in the house requiring oxygen. They worked with HECO and obtained all the permits. The installation was just completed yesterday. Joe and the team were awesome. The young guys were there early and made sure to come and introduce themselves and fill us in while they waited for Joe and the supplies to show up. I had a great experience with the team of independent energy. I thought the installation went well and they were able to use the existing conduits which made the whole installation cleaner. Everyone was very professional and worked hard despite some rain and strong winds we were experiencing. Keelan was very patient and answered all my questions. Our experience was awesome. The team, worked diligently while they were onsite and was conscientious about maintaining a clean work area. Any concerns I had were addressed immediately by at least 1 team member. Being a retired electrician of 28 years, I expected a clean/neat installation and was not let down; I was however, impressed that the installation was completed in such a short amount of time while being so well done. I enjoyed speaking with each member of the crew and they were so pleasant putting up with my curiosity.
A little background on why I chose Independent Energy. I have reviewed many other systems and companies with so much disappointment, so much so that I delayed putting in a system for over 10 years. I recently visited a friends home that had their system installed by Independent Energy. Inspecting the work and talking with the home owner, I knew they were the company to perform the installation at my home.

Excellent crew led by Dave. As far as the installation it was professional and the crew was great. I feel good about making the right decision with Independent Energy. They worked extremely hard and never complained.

Our journey to energy independence started with Yelp, where we selected three top-rated solar installation companies. We contacted Independent Energy Hawaii (IEH), with no prior knowledge or referral, and two other companies. Of the three companies, only IEH got back to us and they did so immediately, setting up a meeting with us at our house within a week.

We had sent them the requisite info and Taryn showed up on time with an excellent and convincing presentation package, including a crystal-clear timeline and cost analysis of the entire project. Taryn was thorough and patiently answered all our questions. We decided on the spot to move forward.

Sean’s subsequent communication, via phone, text and email, between our initial deposit and installation day was excellent. For us, good communication is absolutely essential and IEH did not disappoint. This is, in our opinion where IEH shines (pun intended) above the rest.

Installation day 1: the five man crew showed up on time and got right to work. Dave did a fabulous job installing our three Enphase batteries. Mike, the electrician, got all the control units installed. The quality of his work was amazing, he was very methodical and careful. Demar, Leit and Soren, three very hard workers, were up on the roof installing the rails for the panels. This team of five guys was truly awesome; they were polite, friendly, and enthusiastic about their work. They didn’t mind me up there with them taking pictures, videos, and asking lots of questions. They were very good at explaining everything they were doing.

Installation day 2: again, all five showed up on time and got right to work. As Demar and Lait did a great job installing the rest of the panels, Soren did the roof wiring of the panels and he installed our new solar roof fan. Dave and Mike masterfully completed the complex wiring of the system. When Demar and Leit finished the panel installation, and they were awaiting Mike, Dave and Soren to complete their parts, they asked us if they could paint all the electrical conduit to match our house. Well, yeah! One less thing I have to do. So I got my leftover house paint out and it now looks great.

Overall, this efficient installation team was absolutely fantastic. We could not have been happier. Very high quality work. We even asked them to put the company name on our system, like an artist signing his work. Mike helped me download the Enphase app on my phone and taught me how to monitor our system. This thing is so cool, we just absolutely love it. If you’re contemplating solar, Independent Energy Hawaii should be your first choice. They’re hands down, the best. Mahalo IEH.

There are many companies out there that I'm sure could complete the job but the care and attention to detail by all the staff members provide outstanding service as well as value for all that is provided. Additionally, there was no 'up selling' involved as they effectively analyzed our current needs as well as relayed that we can always expand the system if we find there are additional power needs. First they are a local company in business more than 10 years and stable so they should be here for the long term which is really important as they are available and responsive for issues that come up. Second, they are extremely efficient. When the day of installation came they arrived early, quickly set out all their supplies and equipment and got down to business. Blake who was in charge of the electrical install is an absolute professional, extremely knowledgeable and with the rigor of an ex-Navy Seal. The electrical install was like clockwork and detailed. Dave who ran the physical install on the roof was also a true pro and kept a highly organized crew. On top of this, both of these guys as well as their crews were very personable and friendly. A delight really. Any problems that come up I can reach out at any time to James or Sean. The company president even showed up on the final day of install to check up on how things went. Very happy with the entire experience from start to finish. The whole process took a while to get HEI approval, scheduling the coordination between MRC roofing and Independent Energy (in which they did it all!) They arrived on time, left it spotless and informed me of everything happening.

I would like to put in a good word for Independent Energy Hawaii They installed our solar system a few moths ago and we have saved on our electric bill instantly. Their staff is very professional and organized, Taryn came with a very good presentation of the three different options I had to choose from which I understand was designed by Sean, she explained each system very clearly. She listens to your needs and helps you to select the system that would be right for you, and if needed it could be adjusted. She also explained your tax benefits. No high pressure sales, no questions unanswered. They do design these systems by first checking the layout of your roof. The installation crew members were very professional. When they first showed up they introduced themselves and informed me of what was to be expected and got to work. They never left my yard in an unkept condition. They seem to really enjoy their work, I found them to be very personable and at times entertaining... When they were finished with the installation they gave me a completed lesson on how to work the system and the most important part (I thought) was how to shut it off if needed.
And last, their Customer Service is another outstanding department, all my questions were answered in a timely manner which shows to me that they care about their costumers.

If you are like me and know very little about solar, ask for James Escobido. He gave me multiple consultations as well as options to customise my energy needs. He took time to explain every detail in all phases of the project, broke down the cost to savings value, explained the tax credits, asked pertinent questions about my electric usage and what I can expect from the particular system. Every question I had was answered in a way that was best for me and home.

My decision to go with Independent Energy was validated this past week. Long story short, as a self proclaimed tech geek I constantly monitor my system. In the first month I saw an issue where my consumption would go up if my batteries were not fully charged. I emailed Sean inquiring to see if this was normal. Sure enough it was relayed to Enphase. Independent and Enphase worked together to get the issue resolved in less than a week. Service has been exceptional with Independent Energy.

We started our PV journey in late September 2023. I went and looked up all the top companies in Hawaii based on Yelp and BBB reviews. The following month, we interviewed 5 different companies. It was close, but Independent Energy came out on top. As a long-term investment, we wanted a company that would be there after the installation and we felt confident Independent Energy would be there for the long run.

Our initial consultation began with Taryn who provided great advice for our system. We were then introduced to Sean who managed the project. The original window for installation was April 2024, but to our surprise, they were able to pull all permits in a few weeks. We had our PV system installed and running before the New Year.

Lead electrician, Mike, did a great job of verifying installation details and communicating the entire process. They ensured that installation was up to our HOA requirements. As you can see from the photos, they even painted the conduit runs for the entire system. My wife and I are very satisfied with the installation and would highly recommend Independent Energy to anyone looking for a PV system for their home.

James and his team did an amazing job on my install! My building is very space limited, which presented real challenges for their installers. They were able to adapt the plan to these issues and were able to finish the job in a very clean looking way. I'm VERY happy the way the finished product looks, especially the way Blake was able to route the wiring in the most hidden way possible.
