Monumental Contractors

We hired Monumental for a pretty large renovation on a historic Capitol Hill row home. They installed a new kitchen, two new HVAC units (with new duct work), flooring, new structural beams and more. We were very impressed with their communication and attention to detail on a fairly complex project with lots of moving parts.

They clearly take pride in their work, and we're so happy with how things turned out. We would be very happy to work with them again. Thanks especially to Gilbert and Victor for your excellent work!

Monumental was recommended to me by a remediation company that dealt with a pipe overflow/water damage issue in my condo. As anyone knows who has been through a major home repair, it’s exhausting and disruptive and you just want your home back. When I contacted Monumental online about doing the restoration of my home, they reached out to me the next day to schedule an onsite visit and provide an estimate. It required replacing subfloor and hardwood flooring in a large section of my condo. From the initial outreach to the final product, the management, team leads, and crew were professional, friendly, and responsive. Most importantly, their work was exceptional and the team doing the flooring were truly skilled artisans. Monumental completed a renovation of our home. We are very happy with the work they did, from their carpentry to design. They were responsive and followed up with us to complete unfinished items right away. We highly recommend this group for any home projects.

Monumental Contractors helped restore and improve our home after it was devastated by a flood earlier this summer. They turned a challenging situation into an opportunity to make meaningful upgrades. The project included replacing all the floors, remodeling two bathrooms (including a full bath), painting, staining the stairs, adding recessed lights, and more. The recessed lighting was a thoughtful addition that brightened and modernized the space.

From the start, we had a dedicated project manager who guided us through every step. They were responsive, clearly explained the budget, and helped us make informed decisions about trade-offs.

The full bathroom remodel is our favorite update—it’s beautiful and turned out even better than we had envisioned. Monumental Contractors delivered high-quality work with great attention to detail. Gilbert, Christian, and his team did a great job for us converting an open space into a bedroom and installing a half bath. They were great with project planning throughout, providing us with timely updates (both when things were going as planned and when they weren’t).

They were professional, well-organized, and friendly, and the results are fantastic. We are so happy with the outcome and highly recommend them!

Quite literally the biggest regret of my life is using Monumental for our full house Reno. We moved in in March (after they told us to move our stuff in in January because the house was done—spoiler they hadn’t even installed a hot water heater yet). Even after we moved in, they continued working for weeks. Suffice it to say the project management and communication were atrocious. It’s the worst $17k paint job I have ever seen in my life. It’s already peeling in places, there are spots they missed, they didn’t clean up the old paneling before painting over it so it looks like the landlord special. There’s paint on the NEW hardwoods they installed because they never fully cleaned the house because of when they had us move our stuff in. We are continuing to find things wrong. The emergency drain for the washer/ dryer doesn’t hook into any drainage system, it is just hanging inches over the sump pump in the basement. A cabinet drawer fell off today which is what prompted this post (we’ve lived here less than 8 months). After asking continuously for moths if there were any change orders and being told no, tens of thousands of dollars worth of change orders came in after we moved in, some for work we never asked for and did not approve. Their subcontractors broke a ground level window in our basement, which they didn’t fix for months even though we asked about it numerous times (this is DC, there are rats). The work was sloppy, the communication was poor, and we cannot recommend them.

I just want to thank everyone at Monumental who was part of this project, including those who have moved on and those who work behind the scenes to make this happen. In a couple of days I'll proudly welcome my first overnight guest into this beautiful space.

My project was a merger of two adjacent condos. From the sales reps first visit and his return a week later with the designer, I knew Monumental would be a fantastic fit. Throughout the 11 month wait for DC permit approval and the 3 months of actual work, I have been very satisfied with everyone's professionalism and willingness to collaborate throughout the process. I am grateful to Adriana, Julio, Marlon, Sergio, Edwin and even, to me, for giving each other the grace and patience a project like this needs.

The abided by all of the agreements we put in place to minimize the impact on my neighbors and for communicating so I knew what to expect along the way. The project wasn't nearly as disruptive as I imagined and I'm so glad that I was able to remain in the building to help make decisions and avoid unnecessary delay. During the few times when things didn't go according to plan, I always felt like we were on the same team, looking for creative solutions, and that you were invested in my happiness with the outcome. This was also lovely because I got to know everyone.

I loved my home before, but I love it twice as much now. Gilbert, I will confidently pass on referrals for big projects and will start saving for my own kitchen and bathroom remodels. Don't worry, that will take me quite a while.

Worked with Monumental doing a full teardown and renovation of our condo. They were a joy to work with! Every detail was done with professionalism and as always happens with remodeling instead of new construction a few details came up. I was blown away by my experience working with Monumental. I have high expectations, and they exceeded them, which is hard to do. From the very first meeting, I was impressed -- Gilbert set a specific time to come by (not a window), sent a meeting invitation, confirmed, and then came at exactly that time!! It was a level of professionalism and respectfulness that I have not typically encountered when dealing with any contractors or home repairs. The communication was excellent throughout the process, including specifics of budget, any changes to the project, timelines, and what to expect during construction. It gave me such peace of mind, especially since I have small kids and we were staying in the home during the work.

For communication and responsiveness alone, I would highly highly recommend, but amazingly Monumental also does extremely high quality work at a competitive price. We had two major phases of work with them. For each, we had multiple bids, and their pricing was competitive. We are very happy with the finished product. Monumental took extra care with the details, making sure everything was perfect and we were absolutely satisfied. Monumental has a skilled team, and they were knowledgeable about a wide range of things (handling water damage including some structural damage, ensuring appropriate window and door sealing, ordering custom doors, cabinetry work, etc.)

Honestly, still not sure these guys are real! They are definitely going to be my go-to contractors for as long as I live in the area. Book them if you can get them!!!

Monumental was a great group to work with! We were half way through a project that included an addition and kitchen renovation with another contractor that had serious quality and timeline issues. Monumental was extremely accommodating to step in and put in the extra effort to take on a project half way through from another contractor, which is not something you will likely find most contractors willing to do. It spoke to the kind of group this was. They assessed the current situation, laid out an action plan for repairs required to previous work completed, and delivered a great finished product. Any large project will have its road bumps, but Monumental really showed as a customer first group that was proactive in their approach and had a broad range of experience to handle any unforeseen issue quickly.

We are so happy with our new space and the fact we switched to Monumental! Much appreciate the efforts of everyone on the team.

Monumental was a dream team for our family to work with during the pandemic. We remodeled our row home with them including the back addition, kitchen, bathrooms and main systems throughout the home. We loved partnering with Gilbert, Marlon, Alex and the team to complete our project. We highly recommend their team for the partnership, communication, and end result of the work.

ALL construction projects will have difficult moments. I've learned to judge a contractor by how they behave when these sticky situations arise. Large remodeling to provide an open floor plan to our 1940s home. Work included all design, taking out large brick walls, putting up header beams, new plumbing, HVAC rerouting, radiator adjustments, new basement staircase, new drywall, and new electrical. Very happy with outcome!

The HVAC that Monumental installed as a part of my basement renovation broke and Monumental has been extremely difficult to get into contact with regarding the repair work. No one answers the phone nor responds to email. The amazing team that I worked with years ago (Maggie and Victor) appear to have left. Ironically enough I’m looking at doing additional major renovation work on my house and can’t say that I would use Monumental again due to the challenges of getting a response out of them. Or just an answered phone call.

Monumental renovated my basement and added a full bathroom in the fall/winter of 2020. They were incredibly easy to work with and very responsive to all of my questions, comments, and concerns. The space they renovated looks amazing and I've received compliments from everyone that has seen it or viewed pictures of it.

I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism displayed by Gilbert Garcia. He did not show up for a first appointment with a new client (us). We called several times yet he did not answer or call us back until we told him we no longer were interested in his services. Further, after posting this review he contacted me to pressure me into removing it. We will not be recommending him or Monumental and will be taking our work elsewhere.

Monumental was able to come in and fix work in our bathroom that was done poorly by a previous project manager. They were upfront, responsive, and had excellent quality control. I would highly recommend them for any job in your home.

Monumental did a high quality job on a wood siding, window, and porch roof repair project for us. Victor and Gilbert were excellent throughout the process- always very responsive, transparent, and open to specific material/finish requests. All the guys on the crew were clearly experienced and performed top notch work. Everything was completed in a timely manner and on budget. I'd highly recommend them.

I love Monumental Contractors! They are very PROFESSIONAL, FAIR and HONEST. All of the work they did for me including remodeling my bathroom, installing carpet in the basement and painting was excellent! And the lead contractor, AL, is a true professional. He found mistakes made by the original builder of my townhouse and repaired them. He always wants the job done perfectly and correct! He is TERRIFIC!!!

We had Monumental Contractors replace all of our doors in the house. Gilbert was our main contact and he was easily accessible and very easy to work with. Our quote was less than competitors, but the quality and service was amazing. They listened to what we needed and worked within those constraints. When some of the doors showed up incorrect, they quickly remedied the situation and still finished within their original estimated time frame. Will be continuing to work with them in the future!

We were, overall, super happy with Monumental. Gibert and Victor were easy to talk to and quick to respond. We had never done anything like this before and they were patient and answered all of our questions. We had a few bumps but nothing they they weren't able to resolve. I think those types of issues happen with any contractor. I measure the end result by how they handled the problem and the quality of work. We'll need to give it a few more months to see how things hold up but so far (several months in), everything is great. The bathroom is beautiful!

Excellent company (and crews) who have just finished their third project for us. Last year electrical, carpentry, and replacement of a rotted outside deck door, and painting. This year sanding and painting and outside deck and cedar siding. This fall we hope to use them for some inside painting.

I hired Monumental Building Services to do the rebuild of my condo after it was damaged by a broken water pipe from upstairs. Austin was a pleasure to work with. Honest, skilled, and efficient contractors. They completed some significant drywall and tile work for me, and I am very pleased with the results. The crew is able to think on the fly, and since this was a renovation on an older home there was much of that required. Would highly recommend this company.

I spoke with Gilbert about repairing some drywall damage from wall-hanging TV’s etc. He was very prompt and his crew showed up on time. They did very proficient work and completed it in the timeframe given. Would use their services again and recommend them for any contracting needs.

We could not recommend Monumental enough. We contracted with them to change our kitchen from a galley kitchen to an open floor plan, which involved tearing down a wall, installing a kitchen island, redoing the cabinets and finishes, adding lighting, and some work on the hardwood floor. Monumental was great to work with throughout--they were professional, prompt, and responsive. Once the work began, they were excellent about keeping us posted on the progress of the work and identifying any issues that needed our attention. They didn't subcontract out everything, so they remained on top of the whole project and largely stuck to the schedule set at the beginning of the project, which was a very tight timeline. Overall, they made a very stressful time substantially easier on us. And, least but not last, we were extremely pleased with the work product!

We had a great experience using Monumental for a kitchen (new cabinets, sink, faucet, tankless water heater, plumbing) and powder room renovation. The team was very responsive to email and text and couldn’t have been more professional. We love the results and will definitely go back to them for future renovations (bathrooms).

A little over a month ago, we moved into our new home and wanted to convert two back bedrooms and an odd hallway into a master suite with his and hers walk-in closets.
