JTR Construction built our new Azek deck in April, 2025. He and his crew did a fine, meticulous job in constructing the new deck. We couldn't believe how it far exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't be more pleased. The pricing was transparent and fair.

Josh and the crew were every thoughtful in how the job was planned, so that it caused the least amount of disturbance to us during construction. They were neat and efficient and communicated very clearly with us during the job.

JTR Construction did a wonderful job on our 2-level deck replacement in 2024. Josh carefully reviewed our goals, budget, and material options with us and kept us regularly updated on the schedule for the project. He was happy to add a few custom options for hanging lights/plants and a dry area on the bottom level. They carefully dismantled the old deck without any damage to the house or yard. The rebuild with new PVC decking went very smoothly without any problems or delays. And the result is a great deck that we're sure will last several decades! Thanks!

Josh (the owner) and Darren built a fantastic deck for us. They were hardworking, approachable and it quickly became obvious that they care about the quality of their work. Their attention to detail speaks for itself. For example, Josh proactively pointed out to us that one of the standard railing frames (from the manufacturer) wasn't fitting seamlessly with the other railing and that he would be replacing it to ensure the overall aesthetics of the deck were up to his standards. Josh also ensured that the joist boards were of the right caliber - maintaining a high end product from start to finish. Josh kept us up to date and communicated the status of the project as it progressed which was much appreciated. He also spent a lot of time in the beginning to help answer our questions about initiating a project of this size. He always kept the workspace tidy and in good order from start to finish. I really appreciated being able to talk to Josh during the project bid process and having that continuation into the actual build of the deck instead of the more common situation where the owner hands the project off to a separate team to do the building.

If I had a chance to work with them all over again I would do so in a heartbeat and I would highly recommend. If you hire them you absolutely will not regret it.

We used JTR Construction (Josh Rauch) to build a new fairly large deck. The project included taking out an existing deck and replacing it with a new deck and railing including two sets of steps. Josh was easy to work with and accommodated our requests while also making recommendations that would make the project better and in some cases save costs. Josh is very focused on doing the job right and is good at foreseeing potential issues. We also appreciated that the crew was good in cleaning up the construction site.

We are so pleased with the composite deck that Josh and Darren built at our home. We had a sinking deck and they tore it out, poured several concrete footings, shored up a sinking beam, built an incredibly strong frame and meticulously installed a Timbertech deck that is just awesome. Josh's honest input with the design & color combo was invaluable. We would highly recommend them & we would definitely hire them for another project.

Josh and Darren were great to work with! Josh gave me a good price and a suggestion to change the footprint of my deck that none of the other 5 contractors we got bids from suggested. Josh’s suggestion greatly improved our deck living space. He also had a better warranty for his work than the others and it’s clear he takes pride in his work. The deck came out beautifully!

The best advice I got from Josh was to stay with quality new materials and not reuse any of the old construction materials or footings. Josh and Darin provided meticulous workmanship, we couldn't be happier! We had a 25 year old covered upper deck and lower patio built of wood that was at end of life. I received multiple bids, some were shockingly expensive. It is difficult to find contractors who will pay attention to proper flashing and repair around the house to keep water out of the framework. Josh doesn't cut corners. His bid was not the cheapest, but the best value. I did have to wait 5 months before he was free to work on our project.

One feature that we added was TimberTech's "Dry Space". I'm very pleased with the outcome, we have a dry covered area for the BBQ and storage cabinet during Portland's long rainy winter season. And it doesn't look like corrugated roofing. I can recommend the Dry Space over the competition.

Josh and his assistant at JTR Construction were fantastic to work with. We are so grateful for their experience, professionalism and even design insight. We had initially expected to redo the top boards on our 1,600 sf deck (from wood to composite) but after uncovering extensive rot ended up requiring the whole framing to be redone too. JTR Construction kept us informed about the issues, took pics, prepared a report to see if insurance would cover additional costs, and rebuilt it to be safer and water-tight long-term compared to what it had been designed as. We're looking forward to summer BBQ's on the deck! I highly recommend JTR Construction if you want the job done right and safe.

Josh and Daren did an absolutely spectacular job with our deck. They were detailed, hardworking and excellent craftsmen. They helped us with the difficult task of rebuilding a deck that had served us for more than 40 years. We wanted a deck that matched the design of the house and landscaping from 40+ years ago but made it fresh and current. Their suggestions helped us succeed beyond our expectations. It was obvious from the start that they love what they are doing and they do it well. They were careful with their work and respectful of our home and property. They are simply good people, good at what they do, proud of what they do and very very good at what they do.

I was very impressed with the owner, Josh. Josh and his assistant were working the whole time and were always busy. I like that they measured twice and cut once; their carefulness is evident in the final product. They were also very considerate of our pet. I would highly recommend them.

In March we looked for bids to resurface our 3 decks nine of which were compelling. A friend recommended JTR Construction and Josh came to review the projects. He identified several structural issues and made other design proposals all of which were spot on. Then came 3 weeks of hard detail oriented work. Josh and his partner clearly take pride in their work and were respectful of our property. We are so thrilled with the end product especially as the structural issues were addressed and the cosmetic issues could not be more beautiful. This is as good as it gets and we are very grateful.

Josh gave a very reasonable estimate for replacing our rotting wooden deck. He was easy to communicate with, responding to emails in a timely manner and explaining things along the way. He has the experience to recommend materials, styles, and the best way to keep the new deck looking good. Josh and Darren started the job on the day we planned and did careful, excellent work. They had the old deck dismantled in no time. There was some rot in the house siding and they took care of that and installed flashing to prevent water damage in the future. The 20x20' deck they built is beautiful and up to code and should last for many years. When we had a question a few months later, Josh made time to stop by and talk with us. He really stands by his work. Our family highly recommends JTR!

Josh and Darren did a terrific job rejuvenating our deck. They replaced our 20yr old cedar boards with composite boards and our cedar railing with facia-mounted cable railing as well as adding a rain shield under the deck to keep everything dry beneath. You could set your clock by them as they always started at or before 8:00AM. They left the site clean at the end of every workday. When Josh found some previously undiscovered structural issues we discussed what the fix should be and he got to work. The work was professional and highest quality. We'll likely be asking him back next budget cycle to attack the boardwalk leading to our front door.

After securing five bids, I chose JTR Construction to replace my old rotting cedar deck with composite decking. Josh impressed me the moment he came to assess my deck project. He knows what he is talking about, is a true craftsman and dedicated to doing the job right. He was booked out a few months, but it was worth the wait! Josh and Darren did not have it easy tackling my deck during the wettest April in record, but they powered through and got it done on time. Great communication throughout the project, keen attention to detail, and quality workmanship. I also appreciated Josh’s subtle design recommendations which significantly improved the flow of the deck. Josh and Darren are amazing, and I will see them again in a few months for another project.

We have been looking to remodel our deck for quite some time and gotten quotes from different deck builders. Some too expensive, and some unresponsive. We found Josh online and were very impressed by his experience and his honest feedback of what we can accomplish with our project. But he was only available after 6 months to work on our deck. After meeting with more than 5 other companies and not very satisfied with their bids, we decided to wait for Josh for however long it might be and it was worth it. JTR Construction is well worth the wait! No wonder they are so busy. We asked for a bid in October, and Josh was timely in getting us the very reasonable bid. He told us he couldn't get to it until February, and true to his word that was when he came to build us a fabulous deck and front porch. I can't say enough about how good JTR and his crew is. I wish all contractors worked with the integrity and quality that Josh does. Having our new deck installed was such a pleasant experience. Josh showed up everyday, focused on our project from start to finish. He never left our job once he started, listened to our requests, offered his advice and treated our home as if it was his own. Josh stands by his work and even 7 months after he finished, he was just a phone call away to come back to tighten some cable for our railing (which he said would loosen a bit). Josh and team performed great work. They showed up when they said they would and did the work they said they would. The work was first rate, despite the difficulty of the construction location. I would absolutely recommend them to others looking for decking or fencing installs.

I've used JTR Construction for two projects. Josh is great to work with. He salvaged a deck-gone-wrong project and then created the gazebo roof. A year later, he and his assistant took a general idea of what I wanted for a pergola/sun shade and figured out how to make it happen and look wonderful. He even achieved my stretch goal to have a barn door in the center panel of the deck surround.

I had to wait a few months for him to be available, but his workmanship is definitely worth the wait! Josh is on-time to the project. He closely tracks the budget and lets me know and decide on additional costs. He is efficient and all the work was done within the scheduled time frame.

Josh knows decks! He’s a careful and thoughtful craftsman and understands everything about composite and wood decking construction. We had him do a full tear off and rebuild of a 300 square foot deck. In addition he designed and rebuilt four pillars that supported the deck roofing. He was booked out for a couple of months so we had to wait awhile to get started on the job, but we are extremely pleased with the outcome. I’d hire JTR Construction again.
