It was GREAT! The best part was Omar’s (owner) responsiveness. In todays wacky world of contractor unreliability, Omar is an exception. And he even smiles - another unexpected positive experience.
My seven year old Brighton Home roof was beginning to have leaks. It leaked the first year at the exit points (pipes) on the roof because the foreman didn’t caulk the boots around the pipes. Yikes! That was resolved. Then about two years down the road, it happened again and a friend came and added more caulk - I didn’t know if it was the same issue so better to have a friend who shingles take a look. Then, Memorial weekend 2022, huge rain storm for three days and it leaked again in more places. It was time to bring in a professional.
I decided to try Angi’s list and that’s where I found Jemza roofing. I read the reviews and invited Omar to come look at the roof. I thought he would go on top first but after describing what was happening he immediately went into the arctic to look for traces of leaks and found a few signs of leaks. Then he went on the roof and the suspects were the plastic boots around the pipes protruding the roof - vent pipes from heating, toilets, etc., they were cracked and the caulk was not adhering to them. Thus, gaps, therefore leaks. Omar’s solution was to replace all the boots around the pipes and add new caulk. He also proposed to paint the new galvanized boots and pipes the color of my roof so they were less obvious. It looked great!
On repair day, Omar arrived a bit late, I should have dinged him on punctuality but honestly that’s pretty minor given it all was exceptional work and that’s what mattered. Omar and his son went to work on the roof and it took about two hours to replace six or seven boots, caulk and paint. He also caulked some exposed nail heads and the seam where my leaf helmet and roof met.
I had another contractor from Google also come and his inspection of the issues and the reasons didn’t go with them and the amount of time it took this other company to identify the problem was twice as long as Jemza. This other person really didn’t pinpoint it but he suggested the same solution. It meant I may have paid for a fix that didn’t fix the problem had I not known what Omar discovered and physically showed me.
I won’t know if Omar really fixed the roof until it rains but based on what he showed me of the old boots and photos he took while on the roof, I’m 99.997% confident it was right (that’s for you Six Sigma folks). In other words the odds were extremely low that the problem was not solved.
Omar is raising the next generation, his son, and other family members to carry on in a few years. He’s been at roof installation and repair for 22+ years so do you think he knows what he’s doing? I do.
Thank you Omar for a great end product, fairly priced and done right the first time. Next time I need my roof repairs or replaced, I don’t need to look further than Jemza (that’s an abbreviation of family member names I learned).
Gracious Omar
