This is absolutely the dirtiest place we have ever stayed. There was poop still on the toilet seat and bowl. The sheets were disgusting stains everywhere. Hairs everywhere. I'm not sure if it is because we booked it last minute and it was super late (around midnight). We drove for 11 hours and just wanted to sleep. PS. THEY DON'T HAVE ELEVATORS. HOPE YOU DIDN'T PACK ANYTHING.

This is the best 2-star hotel we have stayed in for some time. Room was very clean. Lights worked, TV worked, AC worked, no road noise and free breakfast. What more could you ask for for less then $100?

Great value for the money. Convenient to the highway. Clean. Good internet service. The touches of orange retro furnishings hit all the right nostalgia buttons. Best of all were the friendly, professional staff. I had not intended to stay in Beckley overnight, but my car started to give me trouble close to the exit and I limped it into town. I was recovering from a sprained ankle and dreaded taking my bags up the stairs. The desk clerk saw my limp and kindly offered to put me in a 1st floor room. He recommended a great mechanic, too. The next morning, the attentive staff kept the small breakfast buffet well stocked and sparkling clean. The next time I travel on I-64, I may plan my trip deliberately to stop in Beckley and stay at HoJo's again!

They aren't charging enough. This was a great room at any price. The breakfast was simple. But at the in price it would be absurd to not be happy with it. Staff were friendly. Beds were made military spiffy. Rooms were spotless.

very picky an I do not stay in less expensive hotels often. It os clear when you walk in they do not tolerate anyone staying here unless they are traveling and need a place to.sleep. Hotel was clean but basic. All that you need to sleep for 8 hours. Beds and pillows more than adequate and everything smelled fine. only negative was guy smoking at entrance when we arrived. otherwise. got 2 rooms for $125 slept well and off. Free continental breakfast to boot. There are some seedy hotels nearby but seems like the hojo is very aware. lock your cars

When we first checked in, we were greeted by a kind man at the front desk who knew we were having car trouble. He was very understanding and made sure we had a room for the night, which we appreciated after a very long and stressful evening.

However, the next day our experience took a sharp turn. At 11:30 AM—while we were still sleeping after being up past 4 AM trying to deal with our car—Mrs. Patel called our room. From the moment I picked up the phone, she was incredibly rude and demanding, insisting that we should have checked out an hour ago and saying, “You can’t just come and check in at 3 in the morning.”

I calmly tried to explain that the man who checked us in said we were fine through the following day, but she continuously interrupted me and dismissed everything I said. Only after I firmly asked her to listen and explained our situation again did she suddenly change her tone—asking if we were local and saying, “Oh, you’re not local? Then you’re good.”

She could have asked that from the beginning or simply checked our information instead of jumping to conclusions and treating us with such hostility. Her attitude was unprofessional and unnecessary. No paying guest should be spoken to that way, and it left a very sour taste after what started as a positive experience.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to Virginia Beach. Half way to Virginia Beach my wife realized that she left her wedding ring at the hotel. She called the front desk and explained the situation and was told that they would look for her ring. She got a call back about 10 minutes later saying that they found her ring and would hold it for her until we came back through the area next week. We picked the ring up and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The hotel itself was good but the the staff was incredible! Thank you so much for your help.

If you accidentally leave something in room consider it gone. I called before we got to next stop. Probably 4 hours they said they would call me back. I waited. Called again. This time they took my number. No response. Called again. I’ll I got was sorry were not responsible. Won’t ever stay at a Howard Johnson again. Don’t even get me started on the breakfast, Debbie cakes that were expired barely any juice no coffee we had to make it ourselves

It was a stop-over during our trip to Grand Rapids. The hotel irself was good. When we had an issue with a shower, the manager immediately sent someone to fix. Even he offered us to move to another room if we wanted. The breakfast options were limited but good enough for travelers. The servvice was above par.

No elevator, I wouldn't behave booked if I had known that. 2 of th 4 room lamps had missing light bulbs. Fabric room chair had stains on the cushion. Pillows are small and kind of flat. Bathroom had broken trim tiles, water damaged door that was peeling, floor not very clean. Found hair on the shower wall that was not from us.

The lobby and breakfast aren't great, but the rooms are nice and clean. The beds and pillows are comfortable. It's a nice stop if you're on a road trip. Nothing fancy, but it has all the essentials. It's also near a really nice park for stretching your legs after a long drive.

This seems like an older place, but the front desk staff was very nice and welcoming. The room and dining area were clean and smelled clean. The bed was awful for me, though. It was extra extra firm. It was almost like sleeping on a hard floor, and the pillows were very thin. I woke up stiff and soar. There was not much to choose from for breakfast either. One night max for me.

The nicest thing I have to say is that the front desk worker was very kind and honest. ||The hotel was disgusting. It had a bad odor when I walked in the lobby. I went to inspect the room that I had booked. It was deemed “non smoking“ but there was the smell of long time cigarette use embedded in everything in the room. It was dirty and smelly. ||The other thin is that I was traveling with my elderly, disabled mother. The room they had for us was on the second floor and there was no accessibility for my mother. There was no way she could walk up the stairs and all the way down the hall. I had booked with my points, but I left in disgust without spending the night.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, my wife was driving from Warren, Pennsylvania, to Southwest Georgia. She made a stop to inquire about room availability at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham located in Beckley, West Virginia (1907 Harper Road, Beckley, West Virginia 25801), after having driven for over six hours. Following the information that no rooms were available, which she did not find excessively problematic, she asked the front desk clerk if she might utilize the restroom facilities. The clerk responded with condescension, rolling his eyes and displaying disrespectful and rude behavior. He informed her that she could not use the restroom and instructed her to leave the premises, subsequently following her outside the building. This incident caused her considerable distress and fear. I am aware of these events because I was conversing with her on the phone at the time and overheard his manner of speaking to my wife; such behavior is utterly unacceptable. On the morning of May 16, I contacted the hotel and spoke with the manager (Ms. Sheila; I hope I have spelled her name correctly). She assured me that she would address this matter personally. It is worth noting that kindness is free; it would be beneficial to practice it, particularly in the customer service sector and at the front desk of a hotel.

I booked a room with a nonrefundable rate through Bring Fido app, since we required a property that allows pets (we have a small dog).|My AmEx was charged.|When we arrived in Beckley several days later, we were told that the reservation.had been canceled - something about the credit card being declined. |I showed the clerk the charge that appeared in my AmEx app, but it didn't seem to matter.|I called Bring Fido customer service, and was told that my reservation had been confirmed with the property. |I was put on hold for 12 minutes, during which the Bring Fido rep spoke with someone at the property.|The rep came back on and advised me to leave the property. My rate was being refunded because Howard Johnson's did not want to honor it. They were willing to give me a room, but only for $20 more than I originally paid.|I'm sure this is illegal. |Anyway, we had to scramble to find another hotel in Beckley.|Never again will I stay at a Howard Johnson's.

Ideal for a non-picky traveller. Hotel is outdated with pricing addressing this issue. Breakfast is very basic consistent with overall property. Regardless, there is enough to nibble to get you on the road. I would recommend increased lighting in parking given the number of vagrants encountered when entering the hotel. This matter was acknowledged by hotel with their apology and comment on the welfare of the surrounding area.

Entire place smelled like urine mixed with air freshener. Card to get into the room did not work 90% of the time, had to get a new room because of this. They gave me new keys which also didn’t work most of the time. Pet fee is actually $40, not $20 like listed online. Stains on bed upon arrival. Spend the $20 extra and just get a better hotel.

Super convenient to all the Beckley sites as well as New River Gorge National park. Awesome colors. Breakfast is fine if you're not picky. Did it fill me up? Yes. If I wanted an awesome breakfast I would have booked a night at Tudor's Biscuit World up the road.

This was our first stay at a HoJo, and we were pleasantly surprised! The mid-century modern renovation of the guest rooms and common spaces was fresh and cute, and the room itself was very clean and had a comfortable mattress. For a 'no-frills' stay, it was nice to see that a continental breakfast was available, too.

Poor Accommodations - not very clean . outdated hotel. quality of service was poor and did not do anything to address the problems. There is a lot more hotels in the area that provide better accommodations for the same price. Too late in the evening to switch to another hotel

I stayed here while in town for a business meeting and couldn't believe how great it was. The low price had me honestly expecting much worse, but the room was quiet and clean and the front desk was very helpful. The breakfast was small, but still had healthy options. It was honestly a surprise breakfast was included at all with how low the price was. 10/10 would recommend.

Gentleman that checked us in was on a double shift and tired. He did his best to accommodate us.
Laundry was out of order.
When we went into our room, I of the double beds was not made and looked like someone had just taken a nap on this bed. Bedding was stained. There was also trash in the garbage and dirty towels in the tub.
Room did not look like it had been cleaned so it should not have been offered to guests

If you are planning to stay here heed my warning, because it will be a waste of your time, money, and sanity.

Just needed a quick place to stay for the night before visiting the near by national park. This establishment was apart of Wyndham and my boyfriend is a rewards member, so we assumed it would be up to par with other Wyndhams we had stayed at previous. At check in the greaseball working the front counter gave us the worst attitude imaginable, because god forbid you’re an out of towner in this “extremely rural” state. He just told us our room number and crawled back into his hole, didn’t point us in the direction of stairs or anything. They keep these rooms dimly lit on purpose to hide the fact that they robbed you of however much you spent for the stay because we made it up to a room that was absolutely disgusting. Dirty, musty carpet, stained chairs, & stained bath towels. The bathroom was most certainly not cleaned. There was clearly residue from them just spraying it with some type of cleaner but not actually scrubbing or wiping at all. The sheets had holes and stains in them along with a clearly greasy headboard. We put waters and food in the fridge to only find them all frozen solid. Which in a state that 36/50 counties don’t have clean drinking water is absolutely despicable. So because my only drinking water was now frozen I needed to go buy more. I headed to the front desk to see if there were any concessions for sale. Where once again I was met by a different staff member who was extremely rude. My two questions for the man were “May I buy some water, and could I extend our stay another night?” The gentleman looked at me like I had spoken another language. So I repeated myself. To which he said I needed to wait for a manager, who wouldn’t be in for another 2 hours, and that the only beverages they sold were out of an overpriced vending machine. Honestly I’m glad he told me I couldn’t extend my stay in that moment, because after further consideration I refuse to give this disgusting, rude establishment any more of our money.

The location was nice but the rooms were a complete let down considering I get better quality for only $10-20 more from other franchises. Booked a 2 bedroom which is supposed to accommodate 4 people but I had only 2 bath towels and 3 pillows per bed (loved watching my kids fight over that third pillow, addi and koda had to use mine and hubbys dirty towel because, only 2 provided!)
Beds were soft but the ac didn't work on anything but auto so we all sweat till the sheets were wet. 2/10 do not recommend.

Google doesn't give an option for no stars. When I got to the motel, there were multiple tweaker outside. I confront the employee at the desk about it and he said "I'll let the next shift deal with that". Very unprofessional I'd rather have my money back and go somewhere else to sleep peacefully instead of having to worry about my vehicle getting broken in to by tweakers and my gear stolen.

Room 202 - 1 out of last 24 hotels where the AC Unit didn't rattle.

Room was a little worn but mattress and pillows good. Bathroom a bit run down.

Within mile of interstate with a ton of places to eat.

Small continental breakfast in the morning and vending machines.

Front desk attendant very patient with me as I had to talk to booking company about a reservation that didn't come through.

They cancelled our reservation not even 12 hours before and did not call us to inform us about cancelling all reservations due to not having hot water. We drove 7 hours to get to the hotel at 1am, to realize there is sign on the door that they cancelled all reservations. Had to find another hotel at 1AM.

Things to know: THERE IS A $40 PET FEE...NOT $20 AS ADVERTISTED - also - HAS NO GYM, AS ADVERTISED. So, certainly not what I expected or paid for. Also, know that there is no elevator so if you have a second floor room you will have to carry all your stuff up the stairs - might or might not be an issue for some.

Five stars all around~! Rooms are very well kept and there's even clean carpets instead of bare floors. Sheila runs a tight ship and it shows. Would stay here over and over again when in the area. We feel safe with our packed car and U-Haul trailer conveniently located outside our window. Enjoying our stay very much.

Was perfectly fine for a nights stay. An extended stay maybe not so much. Mattress was too firm for our liking. And I also talked to another couple that agreed there's was also too firm. A roach was found in the sink, told the desk clerk and didn't seem to care. Don't expect too much for breakfast very basic. Fairly close to the highway. But again for the price and a short stay I was satisfied.

First room we had, it was not great. Told the lady at the desk and she was so apologetic. She got us a new room. It had free Continental breakfast. Yogurt, toast, cereal, oatmeal, coffee and juice.

Stayed over the weekend and had a great experience. I did have to call ahead to confirm a ground floor room but I'm glad I did. The rooms were quiet and clean and getting checked in was easy and fast. Breakfast was light, but still can't believe how much cleaner they were than the other places with similar prices.

There is nothing positive to say about my quick stay here. To say the bathroom was disgusting I feel is still a complement. The shower and tub were still soaking wet like someone was in there an hour before I checked in. There was multiple hairs all over the tub floor and walls and a used bar of soap still in the shower. The floor was wet that I used a towel to dry it up and was filthy. It looked like someone vomited over the side of the bed onto the floor. The man that checked me in was so he asked like I was disrupting his night by checking in.
Spend the extra month and stay elsewhere.
Note on the photos: the water in the shower was already there. I had just checked in and come into the room.

The guy that checked us in gave off the vibe that he didn't want to be bothered and we were inconveniencing him, it would have been nice to get a smile or even a Welcome! because we weren't there for fun, vacation, or work. We were there due to a family member passing. The bed was so hard and pillows were uncomfortable I barely slept. The shower pressure was terrible, and the heat took forever to heat the room. I gave a 3 star rating because even with all the things I felt were wrong I did have a roof over my head, it was quiet, I felt safe in regards to people not harming me and not transporting bed bugs back home with. I do feel the price was a little unreasonable for the accommodations however. In spite of why we were in Beckley at this hotel I have to say the lady who checked us out was so friendly, kind, and encourage us with a "Thank you" and "Have a Blessed day".

The breakfast options were terrible. Cold cereal, instant oatmeal, sad little pastries, toast, juice. Coffee thermoses were empty in the morning. We stopped at McDonalds before getting on the freeway. Be sure to check out the pet fee - a whopping $40! - before you book your stay. The other Wyndham hotel we stayed at in VA had a $15 pet charge .||The room and bathroom were clean and very satisfactory.||The outside area around the hotel was littered with cans and trash.
