My Dad broke his hip and we needed to make some adjustments to our home to make it comfortable for him. I searched specifically for a contractor that had "aging in place" listed in their services. Chad had very good reviews and so I took a chance, and I'm so glad I did! From start to finish, communication was thorough and professional, even on a Sunday. I am so impressed with Chad's kindness and understanding of the urgency of our needs. He even found grab bars that didn't look like grab bars and matched my parents current fixtures. I felt very safe having him work in my elderly parents home and he even sent a picture of himself prior to the first meeting so we would know who to expect - such a nice touch and so reassuring. We decided to build a pergola to shade our backyard sitting area from the intense sun. We searched for a contractor, and based on reviews, both on the web and from people we knew, and chose Hilweh. It was a good choice. Chad, the owner, worked easily with us on the design. We appreciated his open communication, especially regarding scheduling to make sure their work schedule was compatible with our busy schedules. He oversaw also the subcontracted landscapers that laid a stone floor under the pergola. His crew was very competent and a pleasure to work with. They answered our endless questions while they shaped the slats to perfection. The outcome was everything we had hoped for – and more. And, the final cost came in BELOW the estimate. (When does that ever happen?) Five stars plus!

If I could give Hilweh Builders 10 stars I would! I highly recommend them. Chad and his crew (Tama) did such a beautiful job transforming an older home with a very small bathroom with a tub to an ADA shower and toilet to accommodate the needs of my aging parents. The vanity area now allows easy wheelchair access. The non-slip tile and wood flooring throughout made the space more functional.

Chad and Toby of Hilweh Builders completed a total rebuild of our backyard deck/lanai and the resurfacing of our front porch, including demolition and removal. Their communication is outstanding. Before the project began we received frequent updates from Chad. Work began on the pre-scheduled day. During the project the Hilweh team told us each day what they had accomplished and what they planned to do the next day. Quality, superior workmanship, and attention to detail is excellent. Also, they cleaned up the work areas at the end of each day. Chad made sure that the project was done to our satisfaction . I had been looking for a carpenter for some time to help me with the project.And I had heard some good things about hilweh from a friend that got some work done.

First of all, I really like the fact that Chad came out to my property and took this time going over the options.And I didn't feel like I was being pressured in anything or being oversold on something that I didn't really need. He just kept things really simple into the point. A project That I thought was going to take over a week to get done.He did in just two days. So I didn't had to take too much time off of work.

I mean this guy literally didn't want to leave until he finished the job... I really appreciate that dedication.Cause i've hired a carpenter in the past And I felt like they would put in a few hours and then say they gotta leave to work on another project and then I wouldn't see them for a few days and the project just dragged out... so maybe that's why I thought this current project was gonna takena week because my expectations from the past was low based on those experiences.

Man I can't say enough good things about Chad and the work he does.

I had a second story walkway deck that seemed to have rotted out and was a major hazard. Chad knew and understood the severity of the situation and complete replaced and fortified the walkway in 1 days times and totally saved my community from a potential disaster. I really can't thank him enough and the quality of his work. I have such peace now knowing this deck is gonna be good for years to come because of Chad.

Hilweh Builders built a new lanai cover. We worked together on the design, Chad had great feedback which I had not thought of. He pre-planned the design for the lighting that was to be added last and always checked in to make sure I was happy with the progression, final product and was I.

Chad also did a custom shower wall which he cut precisely to line up with the siding. He hand selected the Sapele and it came our perfect. He coordinated with other contractors involved and everything went off without a hitch.

He took out my rusty bathtub and replaced it with a walk in shower, he repainted the bathroom, change my low flow toilet to a Standard toilet, he replaced the vanity and put in a medicine cabinet, installed new lighting and retiled the floor. I love my bathroom.

It was exactly what I wanted and fit the space perfectly. He walked me through the whole process from picking out the slabs of white oak to meeting me at the tile and stone yard to pick out the exact quartz countertop I wanted.

Chad help us with our long awaited and much needed kitchen renovation. Everything from removing and reinstalling our microwave and installing new stainless steel shelves to the trickier conversion of a peninsula to counter height to increase both it’s size and function. And all with the challenge of avoiding replacement keeping unnecessary cost in check. He was also so accommodating for us installing a new faucet. soap dispenser, water filtration system even reinstalling the existing garbage disposal.

You just got to appreciate all those odds and ends things getting done, avoiding the need to hire another person, keeping the project timely, efficient and simple.

On top of that a great guy, easy to work with of high integrity and a can do attitude. Listening to our needs and getting a perfect solution.

After living in Hawaii for 25 years, I recently relocated to Portland, OR and am starting a bathroom remodel project in my new home. I have very little experience working with contractors or dealing with the construction industry. I met Chad Hilweh through a business associate of mine about a year ago. I called Chad to consult with me on this remodel project. He reviewed the construction contract with me and pointed out several things that should be added to the contract. He also helped research the qualification of the Oregon contractor. Chad’s consulting helped me negotiate a better price as well as add verbiage to the contract that would better ensure the contractor’s work. Chad’s consulting was very professional, and he took the time to explain all items in the contract and the industry norms. Although I could not engage his services to do the construction work (because it was in OR), I would not hesitate to recommend his services. Through the consulting work I did with him; I know he is ethical, professional and is an expert in his field.
