Two years ago, I went to Hci steel to get a cover over two metal containers I had for a horse barn from the time I walked in their office and seen their pictures on the wall to the women in the back and the product. I was more than satisfied the installation and the follow up with the people was outstanding. I had to do some, custom trim work to finish off the barn and the owner actually came down designed it they they built it and was delivered and it was perfect. I was more than happy with the whole experience. I give them a six star review.

My company was in the area on a job and needed a specific piece of trim for the job. Knowing I had a deadline to catch a flight back home, Cierra was able to get with shop and got me everything I needed while I waited. Fantastic service and experience!

We needed a leaking roof replaced on an airplane hanger. Ted came out, looked it all over, took some rough measurements and sent us a reasonable bid. With another local contractor offering the same service for a bit less, Ted matched that lower bid and won our business. Aside from a minor delay due to equipment issues, the crew did a great job, very quickly, and will very little mess. Ted and his people are great to work with, clearly know what they are doing, and do it right. Good place to do business with. Make sure you define exactly what you need done on the contract, saves time and confusion later on.

Truly amazing service, from a company that produces an excellent quality metal roofing product. The sales person (first name begins with “M”) was unbelievably helpful! She patiently answered all of my questions regarding the metal roofing panels I wanted to order. I asked about specific dimensions, and M immediately texted me a couple detailed schematics that answered those questions. Next, I asked about the specific shade of white. M texted me the brochure colors but they didn’t seem to transmit the “true” color accurately to my phone, so M had the guys in the shop take a photo with their phone of the particular shade of white of interest, and she sent that to me as it more closely resembled the true color. M even recommended several sources where I could obtain a metal thickness gauge, which I needed to confirm my roof thickness, and phoned the company owner to verify her answer one of my questions related to metal thickness. All in all, an amazing interaction with a friendly and very knowledgeable salesperson, who helped me to purchase excellent quality roofing panels quickly and at a very good price. HCI will be my go-to source in the future for all my metal roofing needs.

Horrible experience. The employees lie and/or have no idea what they are talking about. It took over a year to erect our building, they never did the punch list, and the building leaks. Because of the leaking this building cannot be used for what it was intended for (wood working). Total waste of money time and space. Save yourself the heartache and use any other company then this one!

Spent quite a bit of time over a couple of days getting the specific details on a metal roofing order including sending over a deposit. After I had arranged the workers schedule to install this thing and was about to go pick it up, only at that point did they tell me they actually didn't have it. They tried to sell me other stuff of course that did not meet my needs. Refused any sort of a discount. Wasted a lot of time and money.

I researched metal shelters before choosing HCI. The other manufacturer's did not appear to have the ease and Quality of Materials as HCI did. Their Staff from top to bottom was very Professional ! I assembled my 12' x 40' Motorhome Shelter and when I picked up my Shelter Package from HCI I was surprised how compact the package was and it fit easily on my trailer. I even asked "Is this all of it " ??? Shelter assembled Easily. Definitely a 10 Star Business in my Opinion.

I feel fortunate to have found HCI while searching for custom steel carports. Across the board, their staff was a dream to work with - professional, down to earth, and responsive. My new carport is well built, looks great, and will undoubtedly withstand the heavy winds and snow in my area for years and years to come.

We researched different kinds of carports and decided we wanted a metal carport from a local company with a good reputation. We finally chose HCI. Other than waiting for 4 months for delivery and installation, the process was very straightforward and efficient. The end product was exactly what we were looking for. The office team was friendly as well as the installation crew. We appreciate the owner coming out to do a final walk-through inspection. Overall a great experience.

I had a double wide RV carport with one side attached to a shipping container. I chose HCI because it was built on the heavy duty high quality side of what I saw that was available on the market. The workmanship, engineering and quality is excellent thank you for a nice job well done

Excellent company, great build quality and they stand behind their product. We had a few minor issues due to a difficult install scenario, they corrected everything and made sure the finished product was perfect. The owner Ted came out himself to inspect the completed building, this is a company that truly cares about their customers. Highly recommend.

Too many mistakes to list. We bought a 80x150 building, and HCI managed to screw up every step of the building one way or another. By not sending out the correct plans to start, to poor detailing causing us to drill holes, cut and reweld brackets, reaming out holes that weren't even close to lining up. They had to bring me door jamb trim 3 times before they got it right. Numerous errors all around. None of our siding sheets were cut square. Every single one now has a step on the bottom edge of the siding because HCI doesn't know how to use a shear. They sent the wrong bolts out for some main connections. Didn't send the right bolts for the door openings. While doing the insulation on the roof they didn't supply the correct length rolls. Had to order more. While doing the gutters. They sent wrong colored straps and gutter ends. About a quarter of the trim was scratched up, they would wrap some of the trim but not all. Anything not wrapped was scratched. They shorted me trim on various things. Shorted me ridgecap. Everyday we built turned into a day of figuring out what we need from HCI to keep building.
These are only some of the issues we ran into because of their poor quality control.
It's unbelievable to me that they can charge 20% more than any other manufacturer, preach quality, and do that poorly of a job. Truly disappointed.

I recently ordered a shop building through Angie and from the first call/email she was always very easy to work with. She would answer her phone or return my call within a short period of time. I had a very unfortunate experience with a house builder that required me to change my plans on the shop and again Angie and her Manager Charlene were exceptional to work with! They totally took care of my concerns with both speed and compassion. I will definitely work with this company and Angie again!

There are a lot of companies who manufacturer steel buildings. It is the attention-to-detail of the install crew that makes or breaks the process. The HCI crew were the epitome of professional. Kept us advised at every turn, and gave us a finished product that looks great and is rated for OMG wind speeds.

I really wanted to like this company but at the end of the day they just made too many mistakes and the quality and value were not worth it...I ordered a simple lean to awning 11.5x35 foot with a 3:12 pitch and had been assured they would be better quality and worth the additional $2000 dollar up charge from their competitor who included free installation and delivery. I chose to install it myself because I was under a time constraint because of a previously planned trip and it would have taken 6-8 weeks to arrange a crew from HCI; plus the cost was going to be an additional $1100 on top of the $4400 they already charged me.. The competitor company could not provide a definite delivery date and required installation by their own crew which would have been free but not having a scheduled time frame was a deal breaker.
In the end HCI welded the rafter angles wrong 2 times and eventually ended up changing the chord length on the final iteration which messed up the overhangs on the sheet metal roofing. Additionally, I had to cut 4 inches from the longer uprights in order to make the structure sit vertical after having been assured they laid it out to confirm it was correct. (This was not true) The scheduling delays and three deliveries took almost 3 weeks more than the promised delivery date which, messed up my trip departures. Sadly the awning is still not right but I finally decided to just live with the results.
The only reason I gave them 2 stars because they did work with me to modify the width a bit when they had to re weld the rafters because my slab was not perfectly rectangular (not their fault) but the final rafters were still not correct, the edges were wicked sharp because no one bothered to remove the barbs from the cut ends, the instructions were poor and incomplete, the gable trim they send is not correct and will trap debris so I will have to buy additional trim pieces to finish the project.
Any company can have problems but it is inexcusable to have this done wrong three times when they have a program that can calculate simple roof pitches.
They need to review their quality control program, read their own instructions and actually send the appropriate trim for the gable ends which they charged a considerable amount for.

Wow, nothing but first class! I had great service through-out my entire process with HCI Steel Buildings! Paul Gardner was my sales rep and boy is this guy responsive and professional. He answers your questions very quickly, via email and phone. I had so many questions for him, due to the size and area of my project. I made my order after many emails and talks with Paul on the proper size building needed to fit my 5th wheel into. He was so helpful and very patient with me. I felt so bad for asking so many questions but he never once made me feel bad for doing so. He even said to go ahead and do a dry run to make sure the size was right, I am so thankful he said to do this because I ended up adding 2 feet to the width of my building and 2 ft to the height. The crew who came out to build my building, were an absolute delight! They got the job done quick and it looks great, despite the rain the entire day. I can't thank you all enough for all your hard work! The office staff was friendly and very helpful through out the process! I highly recommend this company if you're thinking about a steel building!

Over the last 8 months, I have had 5 structures installed by HCI here at our property in Oak Harbor.
These are all custom structures that ultimately, we have a high degree of satisfaction with, a little bit of
frustration along the way, but ultimately these are all good additions to our property.
Following is a brief summary of our experiences:

Structure
Pros: The framing is extremely well done! We have a typical pole barn on the property also and it's not
built nearly as well as these steel buildings!
Cons/Improvements: The first building was a simple 12X15 storage shed on a concrete slab. The crew
attached the runners to the concrete with anchors (good) but no seal was installed between the runners
and the concrete (bad), consequently water seeps in under the runners with every rain. The 3rd
building was another shed on a wood floor and I installed a rubber seal under the runners and put
flashing on before the siding went up and that has solved the problem.
The 2nd structure was a 20X50 RV cover which I had to get a permit for. Once the correct rock anchors
were installed, it passed inspection with no problems. The rock anchors are a great addition to HCI's
products and I was happy to be able to help get those developed. The rock anchors along with the rebar
anchors gives me a lot of confidence open wall structures will resist uplift on windy days.

Soffit Trim
This was the source of most of my frustration. But keep in mind the 1-foot overhang on vertical
buildings were a new thing to them. The first project (the shed) was/is not very good. The crew had an
awful time trying to get the correct material from the shop (that situation has improved significantly
with the last project). I have since finished landscaping around that shed and it looks very good now,
mostly because your eye tends to go toward the landscaping and not the trim.
The second building, the RV cover, was/is pretty bad. No getting around that. Starting with not getting
the correct framing from the shop to accommodate the 1-foot overhang properly. Even though they
corrected that in the field as best they could, the end result is it's just plain bad. I hope when I'm done
with landscaping, I'll end up with the same effect as with the shed and it won't appear as bad as it really
is.
The third building they nailed it! Excellent soffit trim! Third times the charm, I guess. Plus, that building
was installed efficiently, only on-site for 2 days. But I will take some credit for that since I was heavily
involved in the startup of that one, getting the runners installed before the crew showed up saved them
probably 2 days since the first 2 sets were built wrong from the shop.

Check out this review from one of our returning customers. Thank you for the great review, Marc!
I spent a lot of time working with the office staff designing each building before any materials showed up. Over the 4 projects (5 structures), that has improved. Each one has been a custom project with a lot of back and forth to get the design worked out as much as possible before the crews showed up. Even with that, there is always some modifications that have to be factored in. Th e crews were always wanting to make things as good as they possibly could, good attitudes all around.
The fact that HCI is willing to spend the time up front with me to get the plans right in the first place is unique! It's not an east thing, especially when getting building permits is involved. I spent a lot of time with the county working out the placement of the RV cover and getting the final inspection signed off and HCI stayed with it even though they had to come back out to correct a few things, they did it.
Summary:
I've read through some of the other reviews to prepare for this one. One in particular had a negative experience with HCI. My guess is they simply had impractical expectations to begin with. Yes, things can go sideways, but hey, it's construction. If you're expecting everything to go perfect all the time, then you're setting yourself up for a bad experience. HCI never gave up on me. They stuck with it until the work was done. Nobody else around here would do that. I had trouble getting the local contractors to even come out and look at this work let alone doing any of it. With HCl's help, I've been able to move our projects along at least 2 years ahead of any other option around here. No, it's all not perfect, but that's the art of construction. It's all a big learning experience.
Final Note:
As it relates to cost, I was able to get the RV cover (20XSO), a shed (12X15) and 2 lean to's (each 12X28) on our existing pole barn for slightly more than the just the RV cover done in a pole building. So, HCI has
helped me manage my budget as well as my time frame in getting this work completed. So yes, I'll give HCI 5 stars! The benefits have far outweighed the negatives. I've recommended them to lots of other people around here, a couple of them are actually contractors! They have all been
impressed with the quality of the structures. Great experience for me.

Although it took some time to get my Shop/Garage built, the fault lies not with HCI so much as HOA issues. The final result is exactly what I had wished for and looks like it belongs in the neighborhood! Great crew to work with.

Picked HCI because we like local business. We had a good experience with the ordering and the delivery. We installed it ourselves as we had a timing issue with the concrete and being in the construction business for 30 years i prefer to do it myself. The only con was it did not come with any directions but one phone call later we had all the directions emailed to us.
We will recommend them if asked!
Good price too!

We recently purchased and had HCI steel buildings install us a 12'x12'x35' carport for our travel trailer and had a very frustrating experience. They had good reviews and were local, which we like to support. Our experienced involved; lack of communication, poor quality control and poor customer service.
Our installation date was pushed back three days (not a big deal), we were told that the install would take one day, which it didn't. We were also told that we would be contacted first thing to figure out a day to finish the installation (we had to call them two days later). We were also not contacted after the carport was completed, which they told us they would do. Upon inspecting the carport we noticed that the supports for the walls and rafters were missing self-tapping screws, there should be 4 at each support, most of them had two or three. We contacted the sales manager we made the purchase with about the issue and was told that the issue would be taken care of. Well, after 16 days of not being contacted about the missing tapping screws, I decided to just do it myself. We also asked the sales manager for a possible partial reimbursement for the installations cost since technically our carport was still incomplete and we were basically directed to call the owner ourselves about a reimbursement. After contacting the owner by phone and painfully explaining the whole event again, the owner stated that he was at a job and would get back to us after he returns to the office and 10 days later we still haven't heard from HCI.

HCI's policy is that the costumer makes a partial payment at the time of the order and then pay the difference after install, we didn't get an opportunity to inspect the carport before the crew left because they didn't contact us. Since we paid in full (shame on me) at the time of the order, since we didn't owe them any money prior to the install, we have been ignored after finding our issues.

If HCI were to tell us sorry about the screws and sorry no refund, we would be a lot happier than giving us the run around. HCI definitely lost a returning costumer and/or referral from us.

We recently purchased a new home on Camano Island WA. We have an RV and the property had a HCI steel building. Unfortunately it was the standard 7' height. I was able to purchase steel to elevate the height of the structure to the needed 9' height. HCI was extremely helpful in figuring out the size and cut the steel as I waited. The price was very affordable also. I am very grateful for the support and accessibility of this Company.

I have been dealing with Mr. Wheeler of HCI Steel Buildings for many years with my industrial and retail buildings. This from major damage to the office space and downstairs of my 70,000 sq. ft. building that suffered severe storm damage to its roof and flooding, to building security fences. Beyond construction Mr. Wheeler has served as a general contractor consultant, in concert with my PE, on many potential industrial and retail building purchases.

I offer Mr. Wheeler my highest recommendation because he and his company have earned it. This in the context as I am a demanding client that tolerates nothing short of excellence.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
