I hired Guy for multiple projects on a home I recently purchased. A week and a half before completing the job, Guy started harassing me for final payment. He had already received 90% of his fee up front.

I was meeting up with him to go over some touch up painting. Parts of the trim and areas of the house had been missed. While we were going over my concerns, Guy started blaming me for the poor work. First, he complained about the paint being used, then said glare from the sun or shadows were the problem. Honestly, there were spots that the sprayer missed or did not apply evenly. There was a section of the garage siding that was never patched and painted. It was completely ignored and a hole still remains. Guy said to shadow his worker then to make sure nothing is missed, but the shoddy work was not something that could just be touched up after the fact. Entire sections need to be redone.

Guy said to have the rest of the payment the following day or he was going to take me to court and that I would owe him even more money because he never loses.

The painting was only a fraction of the problem with Guy and his crew. They put in windows that were not flush and level. The garage door handle installed on the outside was not secured to the door (he just put two 1 1/2 inch screws directly into the metal, the garage door is hollow so the handle wobbles badly and can be easily ripped right off if not careful). The gutters were not finished being put up, and the ones they did put up leak.

All around it was an awful experience. The work they did complete was poor quality and not done with any consistency. They would show up randomly, leave to do other jobs, not come when they said they would, etc. I am embarrassed I let it go on as long as it did, but I imagine that was Guy's plan all along...get some of the money and then drag the work out and argue over whether it was done satisfactorily until you can’t argue anymore and say, "Fine, here's the last of the money. I don't want to deal with you any longer."

Unfortunately, the work on the house was never finished. I had to hire another company to fix and finish the work Guy promised to do.

David and I have really appreciated Guy's work and communication. Had two projects last summer (indoor and outdoor painting). Right now he has a crew finishing putting in patio pavers for us. We will call on Handy Guy again. Karla Smart-Morstad

My dad and I hired Guy to come and do some work on his lake cabin, fix some siding after a big wind storm a few years ago. He was fast, offered a good price and did some great work. We liked him so much we had him come back and finish off a bathroom.

Cant go wrong with Guy, he does some great work at very reasonable rates.

I wouldn't trust this "Guy" as far as I could throw him. He claims that he is licensed by the state. He is not licensed for lead paint removal and yet I have video of him removing it. Guy Johnson bought property from me and then later sued. I had no choice but to settle even though I was in the right because it would have cost me more in attorney fees than what he settled for. When I confronted him about it he admitted that he knew he was in the wrong..but he wanted money for a new roof on the lake cabin I sold him. I had sold it to him 7 years before. When I went to look for an attorney to defend my case I had a hard time finding an attorney that Guy Johnson HADN'T used in the past. It seems that Guy Johnson likes to sue people. I would beware of ANY kind of a business deal with this man. He is a sneaky little weasel.

3 years ago we had a sagging gutter due to ice accumulation. Handy guy came out tore down the old wood and replaced with aluminum. He and his cohort disappeared for 2 days and left all their equipment in our backyard. They wouldn't return our phone calls, we even left several messages. When they finally showed back up, we found that they were building a stage for some band. Thanks for letting us know. When he said the job was completed, he left a big hole in the side of our house. We pointed this out and he filled it, but didn't paint it. Now this year, our gutter, and the wood that the gutter screws into is hanging again. Our house is 106 years old, so the wood rafters isn't as dense as new wood. Why would you use nails to hold 2 inch thick wood to a house? So I had to tear everything back down, destroying the new aluminum that was put up, and put the wood back up with screws. I also have to buy all new aluminum and a new gutter.
