I had my Solar done by Haleakala Solar on Maui,Hi. For over 15 years now, whenever I call them Rob Morales is the one that comes and fix the problem, he is very thoughtful and attentive, he’s quality of work he goes far and beyond , I just wanted to say Thank you very much !! Back in September 2023 reported issue of Tesla Powerwall+ not working correctly.

The issue is during daylight hours the battery will switch over to standby mode where we do not have use of energy until dark (about 6pm) For instance if we charge car or use dryer during the day solar energy may only provide 50% of energy needed it should pull remaining energy needed from battery but instead it pulls from the grid. This is when the battery is at 100%.

Two separate occasions Sep-Dec 2023 Haleakala Solar came out and attempted repairs. Throughout this time I reported approximately 20 to 30 emails with screenshots documenting issue and that issue was still occurring

I contacted battery bonus program to see if this could be an issue. And also to cancel the installation of program since Haleakala Solar never provided HECO proper documentation for HECO to validate data.. I had to fill out a form send it in to get this program canceled since Haleakala Solar wouldn’t. In December President Jim Whitcomb during phone call even admitted that Haleakala failed on their part getting the battery bonus program working and lack of service he assured me they would get it working. I asked Haleakala Solar several times could this issue be related to Battery program that was never successfully hooked up and I was assuring no.

Contacted Tesla after several long 15 to 20 minute phone calls with them plus numerous emails documenting issue back and forth. As of early December it's in Tesla Tier two tech support and their recommendation December 24, 2023 was “Further your advanced settings need to be changed to export everything as opposed to solar only. Please go to settings > powerwall scroll down to advanced settings> permission to export to change the setting. Which I emailed to Haleakala Solar and they never came out to try.

In late December conference call with Jim Whitcomb president and Mokihana Techical Lead at Haleakala Solar sent him screenshots of issue. Mokihana guessed it was low internet signal and they were to install a booster. I sent him Tesla’s recommendation. They never came out to try either fix.

From December to Feb to sent emails to Haleakala Solar documenting issue still occurring. And my new strategy was to find another solar company and bill Haleakala for its repair.
Several companies didn’t want to get involved in another’s mess.

2/14/24 Filed BBB complaint which they said responded “We are working on finding a solution to what is happening with the battery at Mr. Taylors house. I will contact out head electrician and the owner and see when the soonest we can get out there will be. “

2/23/24 Filed compliant with State of Hawaii DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS

3/1/24 Sent Haleakala Solar a registered letter including a demand to repair within 14 days or face legal action for breach of warranty.

8/2024. Still Haleakala Solar has not fixed the powerwall. Now they claim it's not defective. Although I have emails from the owner saying there is an issue. At this point he's given up and decided we'll be going to court.

Needless to say I’m sure when this is resolved I will never get any help from Haleakala Solar on any warranty service. It worth it though letting everyone know our experience and Haleakala Solar’s unbelievable poor service.

The solar tech’s were knowledgeable, and explained what they were doing and why. They were respectful of me and my property.

Had PV installed with Haleakala Solar 12 years ago and had a great experience with no issues. Wanted to add more panels and a battery and decided to give Haleakala another shot. Big Mistake! New Owner doesn’t seem to care much about the customer or their experience. Seems like I had an inexperienced crew working on my house. They left holes in my roof and on the outside of my house. Installed everything and just left not even checking that everything was functioning. Enphase and my Tesla Gateway were both not working properly leaving me with issues to sort out on my own. After months of anxiety and stress that I didn’t need, finally have everything fixed and working properly. Only thanks is to my project coordinator and the head electrician who were both amazing. The only reason I would recommend this company and can give 2 stars is because of them. I tried multiple times to speak with the owner and not once has he reached out to apologize or even try to help resolve any of my complaints.

My solar water heater was leaking water from the roof, and your technician did an outstanding job finding and diagnosing the problem. He determined it was a bad valve, changed it and verified that the leak was repaired and that the pressure and timer was set correctly. He represented your company well with his knowledge and expertise.

Haleakala Solar installed my solar system over 10 years ago. I needed help with a few parts - inverters. They replaced the parts and we are very pleased with their service.
Both of our sons have systems also.
Great company to work with.

In Maui there are only a few contractors you can always count on. These guys are one of the best

Haleakala solar have replaced two of our busted hot water tanks and have kitted us out with a new roof, 44 solar panels with 2 tesla battery's and hot water solar. The whole process, from quote to completion was smooth. I am always able to communicate with staff and resolve any issues without drama. We're stoked.

Been trying to contact Haleakala solar due to panel is black and not working along with 3 other panels. No redponse I even chatted with virtual services and they told me to contact the office.
They will take your monies but to come and check the system is so hard to get a live person.
I wished I went through a different company, we even wanted to add a battery and till today no call back it’s been over a year.
Then we consistently receive emails from a Brian king that does not reply back. I guess it’s only a mass email.
Terrible company.

Our AOAO needed to replace a 25 year old solar hot water system, which was leaking and damaging our building. Haleakala came to our rescue, allowing us to replace the entire system. They got the project done in 7 months, and now our electricity bills are much less. It was not an easy project, but they came through for us. Thank you!

We had a leak with our solar system and made an appt for them to come and inspect it. They called ahead and was able to come earlier, inspected it, gives us options it should be fixed with the new parts ( that they need to order) within about a week. Pono, the technician that came was really nice, informed and polite.
Now, just waiting for the replacement parts and hopefully it gets done asap !

I have had a long relationship with Haleakala Solar and Roofing. I purchased a solar panel system for my Kihei home several years ago. The installation was quick and professional. Their employees are courteous, the installation and service personnel were very knowledgeable and efficient. Even the office staff is very professional, they always return my calls promptly and attend to any concerns or questions that I may have. I later purchased a new roof which was installed by Haleakala Solar and Roofing. A new solar hot water system with a panel was also purchased at the same time. I highly recommend Haleakala Solar to anyone wanting a quality product and great service. My electric bill is now almost non-existent and I couldn't be happier!

Wait over a year for service, although workers know their job, but Office personnel needs a big change. Call,and call, no answer. Seems like office doesn't know what personnel is doing! Excuses, after Excuses was about to call different company for service. Had to threaten for work to be done.

UPDATE 2.7.2024:
Well, Haleakala Solar was finally able to come to my home and make the necessary roof repairs and water heater adjustments. All were completed quickly once on site. I was told there have been some management changes to alleviate customer concerns. I am now completely satisfied with the work performed by Haleakala Solar. I will now update to four stars. Can't give five due to the issues with the "old" management problems that I encountered.

I had a new solar water heater installed by Haleakala Solar. A few weeks after the install I realized there was damage to my brand new metal roof and an issue with the water heater itself. I sent messages to the salesman, left messages at the Maui office, submitted service requests, and an email to the Oahu office, all with NO response. Finally, months later I was able to talk to a person at the Maui location. A company representative came to my home, acknowledged the roof damage, and told me a tech would need to look at the water heater. That was over a month ago. I have yet to hear anything further from Haleakala Solar. Called their Maui office but no answer, as seems to be the norm, so I left a voicemail (Isaac?). Another week has passed, still no response. Guess my next step will be a formal complaint with RICO.

After talking to and getting bids from 3 different companies, we chose Haleakala Solar and Roofing. The team at Haleakala Solar and Roofing coordinated the installation of our new PV system at the right price and ahead of schedule. Ted, Cryschelle, Christine, Danial and all the rest were competent, professional and pleasant. We're stoked about our Solar System.

Had a salesman promptly visit after my initial call in June, signed my contract mid July, was tentatively scheduled a battery installation in October. I never received any information at all, no call, no email, nothing but then they wanted a check for half in September for the October installation. Not a peep from these people, when I reached out and left several messages not one person responded. What kind of business is this and they claim to be in business for 40 years, WOW!! In process of trying to get my money back.

Were there errors, yes. We did not experience a perfect install. After several attempts to get resolved, once James (owner) got involved, we finally found the issue was a faulty manufacturing part.... And now our system is AWESOME. the issues were not on the installer, however, I believe this should have been determined and found much sooner..... In the end, James and Haleakala Solar never abandoned me and all is great

In the end, no company is perfect, however, for me it comes down to how you are treated when issues arise.

July2022 - Called HSR re. leak in the solar hot water system; they were in the neigborhood and responded almost immediately. Pono & his helper Gabe were prompt, efficient and careful in their service. They ansered all my questions and helped show me how to take care of the system. ***** FIVE STARS, mahalo!

We wanted to reroof our house, and in the process, add insulation to a ceiling where there was none. Checking local roofing contractors, we noticed Haleakala Solar had expanded their services into the roofing business. We had previously used Haleakala Solar to design and construct a solar carport for us, and were very happy with their performance then, so we called them out for a consultation.

They recommended installing a 2x4 grid structure on top of the existing roof, filling the space with closed-cell insulation, adding a radiant barrier, and putting on a new roof deck and shingles. Said they had successfully done this before, so we placed a contract with them. They were out in a few weeks with the materials and went to work. It was a big job for a small house, but they completed it in 6 working days.

I have to say they were very professional and did a fantastic job. The ceiling temperature, measured with an infrared thermometer, dropped by about 15 degrees. Our house is so much more comfortable now, I wish we had done this years ago!

Haleakala Solar did the hydraulic plumbing on Maui OIl Change and Tune-up more than 26 years ago! Only recently due to age and salt in the air are we having to make some minor repairs. We chose Haleakala Solar to install our solar water heater on our home 20 years ago because of their stellar performance at our shop.

In 2006 (14 years ago), we chose Haleakala Solar to install solar panels at the shop. Jim came out to the shop and patiently explained in detail the financial commitment as well the overall break even point and the warranty of his services and products. We have had some micro-inverters go out, but with a call or email to the service department, they were out to replace the part at no charge and with hardly a delay.

I firmly recommend you give them your business. They are reputable and dependable.

Visited the website find out about roofing and solar deal. Could not find info on roofer. Will probably call vendor later.

Not happy. My solar hot water was not working. They came to my house fixed some things, charged me $700.00 and I still don't have hot water. They said I have a cold and hot water line crossed and to call a plumber. Every plumber Ive called said its impossible. Im stuck and out $700 and they are not interested in helping me at all.

Very friendly helpful service. All my questions were answered in a way I can understand them. Ted Grupenhoff was very helpful
