Golden Spike roofing and Sean in particular did a fantastic job with my house after last summer’s hail storm. Sean picked up on damage that was missed by the insurance adjuster and the company sent out by the insurance. This saved me thousands of dollars. The work was done quickly and extremely well. I cannot recommend highly enough.

April 30, 2024 my home incurred extensive damage from a Hail storm. A friend of mine told me to call Golden Spike because they had done work on his home and his rental home and had done a fantastic job. Sean came out and took pictures, assessed the damage and dealt with my insurance company. Shortly thereafter, my Roof was replaced. Last week the house was painted, and the fence was re-stained. This was all coordinated by Sean. His efforts and professionalism, not to mention follow through was Exceptional! The crew he had come out to replace my roof we’re great. They busted their butts and did a fantastic job cleaning up. Sean was there every step of the way and made sure there were no hiccups. I was the first on my block to have my roof replaced. Three of my neighbors had Golden Spike replace their roof based off of what they saw Sean accomplish with mine. Sean assisted them as well! I am extremely satisfied with the service Sean provided and therefore rate them with a 5.0!!!! I wish more contractors went above and beyond like Sean

Golden Spike Roofing was excellent for the new roof, paint and gutters from a hail storm last summer that hit our home. Doug Henderson (Proj Mgr)did a great job communicating all the way from initial meeting through final payment. We had another company look at the roof and they didn't think my insurance company would accept a claim. Doug made sure to tell me that he wanted to be here when the adjuster came so he could point everything out to them (claim sailed right through). My neighbors also commented how neat the roofing crew was when cleaning up. The painter Doug uses (shout out to American Painting/Tommy Antanopolis) were just as good. I feel Doug took excellent care of us and I would highly recommend Golden Spike Roofing and Doug Henderson to anyone who needs their oof looked at. Bob Strine (very satisfied customer)!

Ryan and Christian did a great job helping repair our roof following an issue with raccoons building a home in the eaves. It was a complex project that required a few visits and they were patient as we coordinated with wildlife pros to arrange traps etc. Thanks!!

I had a very stressful experience with Golden Spike Roofing and its owner, Michael McCarthy (aka Spike). I had to supervise the roof installation myself because nobody was there to oversee the installers and it was ongoing chaos.

The initial crew seemed incompetent, inexperienced and lazy. It took them the entire day just to tear off the old roof, and then it rained hard that night. There were continued arguments between workers making it a very uncomfortable scene. They tried to install waterproof underlayment over hundreds of loose nails which could have punctured the underlayment causing the roof to leak. They left the materials stacked in my driveway all week. My neighbors were even concerned and asked if I was doing the roof myself.

They sealed 1/3 of the ridge-vent closed with underlayment which could have caused the roof to overheat destroying the new shingles. They installed the roof over a bathroom vent, and over a hole they never boarded up, so someone could have gone right through the roof into the attic!

When they finished and said everything looked great, I inspected the roof myself and saw squashed roof shingles and footprints imbedded in shingles all over the roof. The new roof was so bad it was declared totaled and had to be replaced! The crew was so bad, they had to get another crew for the second roof. When tearing off the roof again, that's when I saw all the covered installation defects noted above.

When they finished the second roof they had to replace several shingles so they just installed new shingles right over the existing ones which left unsightly bumps. It took so long to get both roofs done their tarps burned up my lawn.

This roof was to be installed a year prior but they kept delaying for months, and when they finally scheduled delivery, I waited all morning but they never arrived. Then they called saying the materials were not even in Colorado.

The invoice came with an extra $500 charge. When speaking with Spike about what happened he just became angry and aggressive. He said he wasn't making a lot of money on my job, which explains why he was trying to overcharge me. They also billed me for the materials they never used and took with them.

Then, Spike would not issue me the 50-year extended warranty that was on my contract, and claimed Owens Corning (OC) didn’t offer 50-year warranties anymore, only the limited 10-year warranty. I called OC and confirmed Spike was lying about this.

Anyone that used Golden Spike may want to get an independent inspection of their roof. It can easily pass county inspection with these defects because they are concealed under the shingles, and you'll need to go inside the attic to inspect, or would only been seen during installation.

After I posted this review, Spike responded with just more lies. Here are my responses:

My roof was not installed in 2023 and there was no issue with mixed dye lots or not enough materials to finish the job. Spike is confused. It was installed in 2024 with the defects outlined above.

As Spike notes, he sent a crew to fix some unknown cosmetic items. Actually, they had to come out twice for the reasons noted above. More importantly, Spike doesn’t address any of the other very serious installation defects and issues as noted.

Spike claims I said he tried to rip me off without evidence, so I attached the original bill with his extra $500 charge. Ripping me off also includes the warranty and materials issues as noted.

He admits he gets heated towards his customers which I can confirm. I’d say he’s more like a bully.

I didn’t insist on a 50-year warranty, it was in my contract and paid for. Spike remains unaware his staff eventually issued me the 50-year warranty that spike still is claiming OC doesn't even offer.

I paid exactly what was on the distributors invoice for quantity of materials delivered, and I witnessed the crew taking complete unopened rolls of underlayment and shingles, never installed on my roof. It appears Spike doesn't realize I have that distributors invoice either. Awful company and awful leadship!

I have worked with Jon Vaughn on multiple roofing repairs with tile roof on our home in Solterra. He is responsive, thorough and his crew does nice work. I am very pleased with Golden Spike Roofing.

We are completely satisfied with Goldenspike Roofing. Doug Henderson was a great project manager. He communicates very well and was very thorough,. Importantly, he worked well with the insurance company and quality controlled everything that his excellent crew did.

At first they seemed like the company to go with, but as time passed (getting more quotes, advised from our adjuster/insurance) they started to get pushy. Eventually threatening us they would contact our insurance to inform them we were not using them and we would potentially get in trouble for insurance fraud. We knew that wasn’t true since we had been in touch with our insurance through our this whole process, but non the less did not appreciate them trying to back us into a corner to use them with false accusations. Very unprofessional.

Mansel and his team did an awesome job replacing my hail damaged roof. Hoping that it never happens again, but if I ever need another roof, Golden Spike Roofing is who I'm calling. Thanks Mansel!

Golden Spike recently replaced my hail damaged roof, and I'm very happy with the job they did. The new roof looks waaay better than my old one. Doug was great throughout the process and was on top of everything. Never was I waiting on him for anything, he was always waiting on me (sorry Doug). He also dealt with insurance and helped me make sense of all the piecemeal stuff insurance was sending my way. The most painful part of the process was the fact that I had to find and dig my old checkbook out of a dusty box.

I originally called EXCEL roofing and was told my roof claim would problably be denied. My next call was to Golden Spike . Doug came out spent some time on my roof and said go with a claim.
He met with my adjuster for @ an hour. He worked with insurance company, got my roof and all the hidden damage covered and I couldn’t be more happy. Everyone over there were so easy to work with…highly recommend

Worked with Sean on roof and window replacement due to hailstorm. Sean took care of everything dealing with insurance company, always available to answer all questions explained the entire process. Highly recommend Golden spike roofing thanks again Sean.

Doug and golden spike roofing went above and beyond. Very professional and made the whole process easy. I would definitely use them again and refer them to anyone needing a new roof.

Jon looked at the small jb and sent us an estimate. Two guys came in 2 weeks and replaced the missing/broken tiles. I used a drone to verify the work and it looks great.

There are a lot (ALOT) of roofing companies. Like any contractor, you must be very careful as to who you select to do your roof. I had two other contractors come out and appraise my roof and they were both flakes - a mess. Never followed up (I am so glad they didn't). One even advertises on a radio station I listen to. His quote was stupid high and he quit returning my calls (so very glad for this). But as luck would have it, my wife was familiar with Golden Spike and I was most fortunate to be assigned to Mansel Zeck, their Project Manger. Mansel is an absolute expert on roofing and provided me a solution with one of the best shingles on the market and within my budget (yup..like a lot of you I was dealing with a bad insurance company and had to bring money to the table). Mansel went thru my policy and worked directly with the insurance company to get them to fix all their prior mistakes. I so appreciated what Mansel did - far above and beyond what I would have got from any other roofing company. Everything he promised, HE DELIVERED ON. You will be making the right move to go with Golden Spike Roofing. What an incredible and well managed (and ethical) business. You will so be glad that you selected Golden Spike Roofing. And of course, (ask for Mansel). He is such a knowledgeable, professional and helpful person. My roofing job is incredible, beautiful.

I was quoted for a gutter repair in October and it’s now February and the job hasn’t been completed 100%. They have been out 2 times to repair leaks and we have a section still leaking. Golden Spike was also expecting me to communicate with their 3rd party gutter company each time the repairs failed. I hired Golden Spike not the 3rd party vender, however I was expected to manage all the repair work. The customer service, work, and communication with Golden Spike was very disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone looking for gutter work/repair.

Golden Spike Roofing was nothing short of professional. We had a large hail storm last year that damaged our roof. Dave was exceptional, prompt and helped us out tremendously when getting our roof work done and completed. I would highly recommend Dave and the Golden Spike Roofing team.

I highly recommend Golden Spike Roofing. My project manager was Brandon Boone and I can't sing his praises enough. My project was a homeowner's claim and Brandon went above and beyond to get not only my roof and other claimed projects completed / replaced, but also in repairing a swamp cooler issue and getting approval for exterior house paint.
Brandon is exceptionally helpful, nice, friendly and a great representative of Golden Spike. All work completed is of high quality and it all looks great.

Jon and Golden Spike performed a deck covering roof job for me in September. Communication was great. Very professional. There were a couple issues. For one, they contract roofers, they don't have many in-house employees. Two sets of sub-contractors no-showed, day of, which delayed the project 2+ weeks. Not a huge deal, but in this case the roof was sitting with only waterproofing, so there was time sensitivity. Second, Jon's in-house repair team waterproofed the covering first. Very nice crew. After a rainstorm, we had a leak in our house. The team came out promptly to fix it. Quality now appears to be good (after one snow storm). But, there was a fair amount of headache for the premium price that was paid, in my opinion. I don't mean to point fingers in this review, stuff happens, but again the price was a premium and for that I would have expected a bit more.

I have now used this company twice for hail damage on the same house. Both times, the insurance company low-balled the coverage, and both times, the reps from Golden Spike went back with excellent photographic evidence to get everything covered. I would HIGHLY recommend this company!!!!

Everything about this project went very well. Sean was our salesperson and stayed in close contact throughout the whole time including being there on-site the day of the install. The workers were very polite and conscientious about not damaging the landscaping. They are a great company to work with!

I cannot say enough good things about Ryan and Golden Spike Roofing. I called Ryan a year after he left a business card on my door. Ryan didn’t answer but Spike the owner did. This was my first sign this was a good business. Ryan went above and beyond to work with me and my insurance company of 20 years that only wanted to cover 25% of the cost to replace my roof. He is very knowledgeable about insurance coverage and code requirements. I recommend this company for your roof. Their high rating is for a reason, and it really proved accurate for me. I thought I had some damage inside my attic from a leaking roof. Called Dave at Golden Spike Roofing, and he came out the next day to look. Climbed up inside my attic, which is always a horrible place to be. Found the area of concern and reassured me that there was no current issue to be concerned with. Didn’t charge me a single red penny! I can guarantee that I will be using Golden Spike Roofing for any roof repairs. I need in the future. If you are looking for equality, trust worthy, experienced roofer in the Denver metro or front Range make sure to give Dave a call!

Contacted on them Friday late afternoon, Ryan contacted me right away and came out Monday. Gave me an estimate for house and garage tearoff and replace if roof. A good price and the roofing crew was here by 7 Wednesday morning and got right to work. They stripped both roofs and had both shingles by that evening. The crew was very polite and cleaned up the mess at the end of the day. You wouldn't even know they had been there except for the new roofs. Haven't had rain or wind yet, but I am extremely happy with the job the did. Would definitely use them again.

Golden Spike Roofing replaced our roof, and they were wonderful to work with, and our new roof is beautiful! Our insurance company required us to replace our roof and wanted it done within a month in the middle of winter, and threatened to cancel our coverage. I contacted Golden Spike and worked with project manager Dave Vaughn. He was knowledgeable and professional, and was the only contractor that told us to try to have our insurance company pay for the new roof. Most other companies told us to not even try since our claim would most likely be denied. Dave was right and our insurance company approved our claim and paid for the roof replacement. Dave took the time to meet with the insurance adjuster when he was at our home to look at the roof.
We are so happy with the new roof and everything was done quickly and professionally. Our house looks great and we will enjoy our new roof for many years.

My home was damaged from a hail storm and after receiving bids for the repair work I selected Golden Spike Roofing. They replaced cracked tiles and in a few cases were able to repair the damaged tile without replacement, which cut costs. I also had a window frame that was cracked in a few areas from the hail, which couldn't be replaced without removing the entire window and would have been costly. Jon suggested not replacing the window and instead fabricated a fix for the frame and weatherproofed it, saving me money. I couldn't be happier with Jon Vaughn and Golden Spike Roofing. They communicated frequently, did what they said they would do and did it on time. It's difficult to find good customer service anymore and it was great working with them. I highly recommend them.

EXCELLENT SERVICE, great communication, very expedited service, clean work, BEAUTIFUL ROOF. You will not be disappointed, highly recommended. My roof was VERY old and dangerous. It's now solid and so beautiful. Dave and his crew are excellent!

We had a leak in our 25-year old Spanish tile roof that other roofing companies, including the original roofing installer could not find. Golden Spike quickly identified a design problem in the roof that had resulted in leakage over the years and deterioration of the roof deck. Golden Spike fixed it quickly and for a reasonable price and we have had no further problems.

When we were having trouble with ice dams on our roof and it was leaking inside the house, Golden Spike came out to get all the snow and ice off of our roof when all the other companies said, "We'll come out in the spring when the snow is gone." We were incredibly grateful to them for saving us thousands in damages. I'd call them again in a minute.

Spike and his crew were great. Explained the work to be done and my options then completed the work when scheduled and quickly. After they were finished the cleanup job was excellent.

Working with Golden Spike Roofing was a pleasure. They came out and inspected my roof and provided a very reasonable estimate for the work that needed to be done. I went them and the work was completed in a very timely manner and they did a great job!

As the owner's rep, I worked with Spike on a large 13 building renovation project in Thornton. To add to the fun, these buildings were occupied during the work. Spike's crews were on top (i didn't intend the pun, but it works) of the entire process. They worked efficiently, safely and provided an excellent product.
As with any large project, especially when occupied, there will be issues, but Spike took care of things before they became problems.

I picked GS due to reviews saying they cheerfully do small jobs, no BS etc. Steve came out to assess leak in roof (water marks in ceiling though not anything beyond damp to touch). Turns out there is not roof problem, just unusual snow intrusion into vent (large dump we had around Thanksgiving coupled with wind). I was impressed with thorough explanation of how vents are configured that would allow this rare occurrence, remediation ideas if it happens again, and general discussions around roof condition/installation/quality etc. Despite this all being free, there was no impression of being rushed or anything, in fact quite the opposite. Highly impressed.

Golden Spike has done several roofs for me in the past and each time they've done a quality job. They stand behind their work, they're responsive and professional.

As an insurance agent, I have spoken to a lot of roofing companies on behalf of my customers. When I needed repairs on my roof, I called Golden Spike because of my insureds who were very happy with their job. They reinforced all of the ridges of my house and waterproofed all of my 6 skylights. One had a leak afterward and Golden Spike came back out immediately and re-sealed the skylight. I liked the personal attention of Spike's call to make sure that I was satisfied with the repairs.

We have used Golden Spike twice. First when we had a small leak on the back porch. No one else would respond when we didn't need a complete new roof. They did an excellent job affordably. When we needed a whole new roof we called Spike again. Came in at a good price and did an amazing job. Won't stop until you are satisfied but that won't take long!

AS a Real Estate agent, I need small jobs done and sometimes large ones. I had clients that were blown off by a roofing company because job was probably too small. The roof just needed a little work. Dave and his crew are fantastic. After having another roofing company blow me off over some minor repairs that I needed done before we sold our house, Dave came in and saved the day. I called him on a Thursday, he came out on Friday, and his guys were up on my roof and done within a couple of hours on Saturday. I couldn’t have asked for anything better or quicker.

Spike and his staff are very professional and detailed. Handling steps from insurance claim filing to payments, to finish, clean up and follow up. They have been my roofing contact for multiple properties even prior to Golden Spike Roofing. Honest and accountable. Sometimes it may just be a window leak, and Spike will inform you of that.

The mark of a good business isn't necessarily being perfect, but may better be defined as the willingness and ability "to make things right". That was our experience with Golden Spike Roofing.

This is the BEST roofing company around. I have used Golden Spike on two of my own homes and they have done the best job! Dave is the best person to work with and he never fails me. I am a Realtor and have called Dave on many an occasion regarding one of my listings that has roofing issues and Dave always goes that extra mile for me to get the job done in a very timely manner so that the transaction is not adversely affected. Golden Spike replaced my roof after the hail storm in 2017 - they were here quickly, did a great job for a fair price, left no mess - I would definitely hire them again!

Missed Deadlines, Held Hostage, Incomplete work, and Insulted in my own home.

Really not impressed with how I was treated. I was told my roof replacement would be a two day job, and it lasted for over a week due to delays and subcontractor scheduling issues.
After the first day, they left their big 5th wheel trailer in the middle of driveway. Golden Spike was not willing to move it until the next day.
Golden Spike was supposed to do some paint work, and that has not been completed.
When I came home from work to find the gutter subcontractors blocking my driveway, they asked if it was OK if I parked on the street. I told them I would like to park my car in my garage. The kid ran off, but not before muttering 'Damn, this guy' under his breath.

Stay away. Stay far away.

Spike is a great roofing contractor and I have collaborated with him on many projects over the last two decades.

Excellent installation as far as it went. Because of substitutes made for gutter guard it has only been partially adequate in keeping the gutter clean. Young and inexperienced project manager gave results that prevent me from giving you five stars.

It's May of 2018 and hail season is here. Like most in Lakewood, our roof was damaged in the May 2017 hail storm. Fortunately Spike took care of us and exceeded expectations. If you want great work and fantastic customer service price for an excellent price, don't hesitate to call Spike.

I have been in the Colorado roofing industry for over 20 years and Spike has been around longer than I. Golden Spike is a great company, always honest and always showing up with integrity. FIVE STARS!
