Family First Construction of Michigan

I didn't want to work with Family First. I was required to per my contract with FSM. I found Family First very unprofessional. They didn't cut the top of the trim before removing it to break the caulk seal. It did a great deal of damage to our walls including pulling the paint off. When they were reinstalling the sub floor the contractor was cutting wood inside our home. Then used a leaf blower to clean up. That made the mess worse. It took me days of swifer and washing the walls to get all the sawdust off. In addition, I was under quoted for the work required. My bill increased by almost 50%. I would not recommend this company.

So far... things have been going so well with Family First Construction. There is still more to do but I have liked all the workers (especially Ray and Ryan) but that's because they communicate with me and make me feel like everything is going as planned. They have more to do but I do really feel they are professional, receptive and doing good work. Will let you know if this opinion changes (ha!). I do feel like I am an actual person when talking/texting to them about my expectations and they have been helpful in prepping me for what is coming up. I respect their time constraints but what I have liked is that they respond to my queries and follow through with what they promised. THANK YOU FFC! Renovations are hard to go through when one is working and they have made me feel comfortable with their presence and expertise.

Family First was hired to prep basement, including removal of family room, for waterproofing to be done by FSM.
We also contracted them to:
Remove remaining furniture
Prime and paint all ceilings and crown molding
Minor drywall repair
Minor repair of door frame
Painting of outside foundation
All work was done to our expectations in a timely manor.
I would like to mention that Curtis did a lot of work on the ceilings and crown molding.
The previous owner of the house was a heavy smoker and this created extra work.
I would highly recommend Family First for your contracting needs.

7/14/25 - FFC returned after an intermediary project by a different company to do the restoration. They were able to match the paint, etc. perfectly. They're a talented group of team members. Thank-you.

6/6/25 - We hired FFC for some demolition work in our lower level walk-out basement which suffered some severe water damage. Our bar with granite top had to be dismantled, and flooring had to be pulled up. The style/color of both had been discontinued by manufacturer back in 2022. The FFC team took great care in their work and was able to save all the flooring and bar cabinetry from any damage. A huge THANK-YOU.

I provided them with the house address, and they stopped by to assess the work. They quoted me X amount to replace two concrete slabs, plus $650 for a city permit, since the slabs are part of the sidewalk.

I agreed to the quote and paid 50% on March 20, 2025.

Later, when they checked with the city, they were informed that no permit was needed. Naturally, I expected the full $650 to be deducted from the price. Instead, they only subtracted $525, claiming a $125 fee for checking with the city.
To me, it feels like they're looking for any excuse to tack on extra charges.
Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend doing business with them.
And BTW, they poured the concrete on 4/23; more than a month later

We just had these guys come out to work on our basement and they did a great job. Highly recommend them.

Family First Construction did a great job with helping me redo my basement i’m so grateful I inherited this home from my grandma and they showed so much compassion with my cant recommend this company enough they are amazing!!!

This is my second posting for this company. I had three quotes before accepting FSM that suggested Family First Construction. I am truly blown away by this company’s, (Family First) work ethics, efficiency and its employees. It has been my absolute pleasure to have Family First perform the necessary prep and repair work to bring back my home to where it should be. The BEST.
